(this is mostly a way to introduce my country, but along the way foreign journalists go missing, and if anyone chooses to make something of that, all the better. If not, well, we'll just eat them or something)

The ancient east Asian state of Drapol has a long and bloody history, perforated by long periods of isolationism- facilitated to no small degree by its near inacessable geography. The nation is a maze of jungles, swamps, and hills, largely surrounded by mountains and valleys.

Occupied many times, the nation has always managed one way or another to drive out foreign powers; more often than not by sheer reckless brutality.

Mongol hordes swept through this land like so many others, meeting little organised resistance at first. However, while most civilisations traditionally found it best to co-operate with their brutal conquerors, the Drapoel people chose instead to outstrip that brutality. As soon as a conquering army moved on to the next land, Drapol's populace restored the previous order, exterminating any foreigners remaining; no matter what the consequences.

Tendencies such as the above have oft been credited for the otherwise inexplicably sparse population found in Drapol's fertile lands.

Lines of brutal emperors and kings ruled for centuries, until , during which the nation again became secretive and introvert. It was largely believed by the few who cared, that the Drapoel people were living under a sham communism, a dictatorship no less extreme than that of the king present prior to [the war (World War..something?)].

This year however, an alternative news show (feel free to claim the journalists/show/whatever as your own) making a series of documentary films on the most mysterious isolationist nations on earth (prrrrobably had a catchier title though eh?) managed to sneak across the Drapoel border, and began to reveal glimpses of a brutal, paranoid, and backwards world, cut off for decades from outside development. That is, however, until they suddenly and without warning ceased sending out reports last month.

The last report included secret filming of a military parade in the capital DaKhiem, in which were displayed a weird assortment of armaments, many of them appearing likely more at home in a world where Japan won the Pacific war. Late war prototype Japanese tanks -brought to production in Dra-pol-, Shinden canard fighters -perhaps the best a piston-engine fighter could hope to be-, and ZSU-like vehicles, the blueprints likely stolen, all displayed to crowds of thousands (the spectators themselves standing in almost military file).

It (the last report) also named one [i]Director Kurosian as the apparent head of state, before all communication from the team ceased.

(So there you have it- Dra-pol. Mysterious, isolationist -known best to a few historians familiar with the long line of rulers in ancient times, each despot in turn capable of making Vlad Tepes recoil in disgust- nothing heard for maybe fifty years until these few reports- now a sham communism more extreme than North Korea)

This story has captured the imagination of West Tokenites nationwide. Due to its proximity to the region Drapol inhabits, secular government officials are also showing interest in the developments.

Sharing a similar background, the modernizing Tokenites, a generation removed from intensive agriculture and primtive religious society, are clearly curious to see how the people of Drapol will interact with the world.

The hardy Himilayan mountain people of Token's extreme northeast border with the mountain chain, have reported sighting the missing journalists days before their dissapearnance, but these reports remain unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, secular government headquarters in Cho Bakka, a port-city on the Indian Ocean, is commissioning a panel of experts to asses the current situation and nature of the mysteriuos hermit-kingdom of Dra-pol.

(I'm still looking for a region to settle in, actually- do you suppose I'd be welcome in the Asian Alliance? Considering my nation's isolationist policy. I shan't mind if we don't fit- the nation's been isolated for generations, it can wait afew more days :) )

Inside Dra-pol life continues- people largely hear nothing of the foreign journalists- the media here is primitive; the camera having failed to evolve since the first primitive examples arrived three generations ago, before the last border closure.

Unbeknownst to the outside world, the four outsiders involved in the documentary have been hurried away by the government, into prisons right out of the nineteenth century.

The government begins to worry about how much of its authoritarian communist regime is known to the outside world. Their only link to the world at large has been provided by a handful of villagers, mountain people, and nomads, paid in foodstuffs and basic tools, for information on surrounding nations.

The parades and displays continue around the capital.

OOC: I just moved to Asian Alliance today, so I couldn't tell you what its like. But move in and check it out, it would make for some good RP./OOC

An exploratory team commissioned by government offices in Cho Bakka is assembling for a data and intelligence gathering mission to the jungles, swamps, and foothills on the opposite side of the Himilayas and the main Asian continent. Long a vacant blank spot in West Token cartographical societies, scholars and officials hope to shed some light on the mysterious rumors circulating through the mountain communities.

The team will consist of highly trained gurkhas, herdsman, and highlanders all inured to the hardships of privation. Officials hope to field the team by the weekend and expect results within a fortnight.

Inside Dra-pol, life continues as normal for most of the peasantry.

In a struggle to meet the month's production quota for the farming collective he oversees -lest he risk a public lashing, or worse- the appointed head of each village deals-out harsh 'incentives' to his comrades in the paddy fields.

The queer little triangular flags of the state dot the fields, the country side, the over-sized villages that pass for towns. Here and there a citizen hurries to pick-up a flag that has fallen, afraid of what will become of those near-by when an official notes its intollerable perpendicular condition.

And the government interrogates four foreign rats, demanding to know from whence they came, only to insist that these vile places no longer exist, and to inform the hapless captives of their obvious demonic origin.

Meanwhile, a few of the highest ranking Banat (secret police) bribe more tribesmen and nomads from around the border regions for more information on the surrounding lands, and the mine-fields that dot Dra-pol's fringes in the most accessable parts, are greatly expanded.

It's many a year since foreigners (excepting the odd goat herder or such, of course) have crossed into Dra-pol. What could have brought these four?

(And who helped them? The search for possible collaborators has caused several executions already)

An image sent out almost a full week before the capture of the journalistic team. The authorities claim Dra-pol is the oldest place in the universe, and since the rest of the world died over forty years ago, that it remains the most beautiful.

Some very few carefully selected Banat agents have recently begun to operate in the poorly defined border areas of Dra-pol, observing activities in near-by Asian nations, and from time to time engaging in various thefts, and even kidnaps in villages, checkpoints, and tradeposts.

The regime is attempting to find out a little about the outside, fearing, with the journalists (one of whom has now died in captivity), may come the world.

Of course this is not a news report or a governmental statement- Dra-pol has no direct contact with the outside world, and most people have never heard of it, let alone gathered intel on the activities of its agents in jungle and mountain villages.

(if there's any active east-Asian style regions out there looking for a psychotic isolationist dictatorship... hehe)

(AP) West Token - The oversight council in charge of the fact-finding mission it dispatched earlier this month has convened an emergency meeting to determine the fate of its reconnasciance team.

Rumors and speculation are running rampant throughout the secular capital, Cho Bakka. While some still hold out hope for the missing team, most are fearing the worst.

As news begins to filter down into the foothills from the uncharted mountain territory, a clearer picture may be drawn to find out just what exactly is going on in this remote region.

Meanwhile, the High Pontiff himself is fending off rumors that a backward society untouched by civilization for years, is massing in these areas.

One of the mountain dwellers from the ill defined borders of Dra-pol, who was paid a pittance by the DaKhiem regime for information on what lies beyond, has to-day come forward -to almost anyone who would listen (and ideally slip him a few coins)- with information and photographs apparently depicting the unfortunate fate of some non-descript "outsiders" who were captured in Dra-pol.

Apparently he was provided by DaKhiem with a (cumbersome and rather worn out) camera for reconaissance of the outside world- he claims to have turned it to spying on the isolated nation itself.

It is not clear yet that he even speaks the truth, and if he does, it is uncertain whether the "outsiders" pictured are the missing (ooc:and as yet unclaimed- are they yours?) reporters, members of the teams dispatched by West Token, or some third party. Perhaps the gruesome images recorded will shed light on the sorry matter.

This is said to have been a tripple execution in a remote rural area of the highlands.

This native of Dra-pol, says the 'double agent', was executed for helping the "demons" or "outsiders"

http://www.justiceblind.com/death/chinashoot.jpg

Here, though it may be beyond the mountain-man's understanding, some observers may note that the fact these executions apparently took place in public suggests the authorities were unable to wholly conceal the presence of foreigners- possibly a shattering event in Drapoe, where people have seemingly been taught that the world outside ended two generations ago.

Producers of the documentary show "Hermit Kingdoms" revealed that four journalists had gone missing in the unknown state of Dra-pol. Under the old government of the corporate oligarchy, this would have been a matter of no concern to the Floating World government: people were free agents and risky ventures in insane foreign dictatorships were no concern of the government. But the new Workers Party government has decided that it will act in defence of Floating World citizens overseas. The government is seeking a way to contact Dra-pol authorities.

Records suggest that the last major influx of foreign thinking and technology to Dra-pol occured around two to three generations ago, and the nation appears to have basic radio equipment- it is assumed that this is withheld from the public, and is scarcely used at all, since next to no chatter has ever been recorded by outside sources. It's not even certain that any equipment has been maintained and is actually monitered.

Meanwhile, inside Dra-pol unrest is rising as talk of demons becomes wide-spread, and intellectuals (insisting that the outside world did not in fact end two generations ago) are targeted by the Banat.

Border dwellers, often of uncertain nationality (Drapoel? Neighbour?) are increasingly being employed as spies- a dangerous game, as they risk returning with information displeasing to the government- and fortifications are being strengthened around Dra-pol's outer reaches and strategic locations. ..again, the act of shoring-up defences against a world that isn't supposed to exist is a process which roots out the suspicious, unfaithful, and so on, and exposes them to arrest.

This week in Dra-pol two women were beheaded for counter-revolutionary activity.

The first, an elderly woman from a northern village, complained that taxes were too high, and that the collective of which she was a part could not meet its quotas for the month. She apparently had the wicked gaul to demand that the government lower taxes, and allow the greedy to horde money and grain.

The second, a young woman from the small capital DaKhiem, also attacked the long established tax system, suggesting that individuals should select the department to which their tithes are dispensed. This sort of direct attack on the party and its mandate is unprecidented in recent times, and the execution was swift.

Meanwhile in the countryside considerable reasearch is under way into new military technologies.
The government is experimenting with more advanced rocket technology, jet propulsion, and both chemical and nuclear science in various respects.

Of course none of this is officially announced- Dra-pol remains out of contact with the whole world, which as yet is ignorant of pretty much all goings on in the nation. It's just happening quietly in a distant corner of Asia.

"There's the coast. I told you it was free land. Do you see any sign of civilisation?"

"Well.."

"Nothing but sand, trees, rocks, sand, trees, rocks. We've found a new home! They won't bother us anymore"

The upbeat mood aboard the cramped trawler, the refugees it carried at once exhausted and relieved, was interrupted by unecognisable chatter evidently coming from some manner of loud-speaker to port.

The homeless wanderes aboard peered into the mist- a vessel, maybe even smaller than their own.. just a couple of hundred yards out.

"Hello! Hello?"

The chattering voice became gradually more irate, but the vessel did not close, instead shadowing the trawler as it headed for a remote east Asian shore-line.

"Maybe the place isn't abandoned, uncle, they don't sound happy to see us."

"We've come this far- if there's really a problem they can come aboard and address the situation face to face... I say!" He yelled through the mire towards the shadowing vessel "I say, we can't understand a word you're saying! Why don't you come aboard?"

A heavy juddering- his chest burst open showering his niece with his blood, the man shook, and fell over board. Screams drowned out by the on-going assertion of the shadow's heavy machine gun, bodies fell about the deck, the thin, rusted hull of the old trawler holed countless times. She listed to port, the deck ever more exposed, as the hail continued, until three rushing lights bridged the gap between the two boats.

Within seconds the impact of a trio of rockets had sent the trawler under the Pacific's skin.

The heavy machine gun did not stop its vibration of the very air for several more seconds, plumes sprang up around the few pieces of surfacing wreckage that supported human parasites.

Then it was over, the gunboat slipped back into the fog, back towards Dra-pol. The refugees -strangers to the Drapoel, unknown and unwanted, what they had sought to escape being of no concern- were all dead. Drowned, burned, shot, men, women, and children.

Still the existance of a defined society, of a government, of a nation in the ancient lands of Drapol remains a point of contention in the outside world, which as yet has no word of this latest incident.

CIO Dean Gray added this to another list of odd notes. "Hmm. Vlad Tepes, what do you think of this?"

The aged vampire took one look at the list of evil things, gave a startled cry, and collapsed into dust.

"As I thought." Pressing a button, he called up his number 2, Lilith Tempescire. "Lilith, take a team and investigate?"

"As you wish, my master." The vampire turned to find her partners Vladimir and Arucard.

Meh, I expect it doesn't matter exactly which conflict. For now.
It looks now as if Dra-pol will actually exist in North Korea, as I've been told it will be drawn in there in the next update of the Asia regional map. Hurrah!
And did we just indirectly double-kill the Impaler?

A Floating World journalist, unknown number of locals who aided them, some distrusted mountainmen of non-descript nationhood, two politically offensive Drapoel women, a boatload of refugees, and the Prince of Wallachia.

Director Kurosian is ..well, he would be making a name for himself if only people knew what he was doing..and exactly who he was :?

Well, for now the Director shall continue to rule with an iron fist, increasing fortification of the state, researching new military technologies, following collectivist policies as well as enforcing de-urbanisation, until Dra-pol's position on the Asian map is confirmed, at which point we might well invade something :)

As yet, still isolationist, but to such a degree that we can't even tell people not to come in, so.. yeah. World's move.

-There'll be a very small number of modified trawlers acting as gunboats (only armed with medium/heavy machine guns, and sometimes light unguided rockets and mortars) patroling the area, but there's no certainty of these coming into contact with your team/s. It's up to you, if you want to find wreckage or something, feel free, and if you run into a patrol boat, feel free to say so, and I'll RP their response- but it's quite possible to make it through our waters without being spotted- most of our military is infantry.

(Ooh- the first official foreign government/military persons to set foot inside Dra-pol in two generations?)

Forgive me if I jump too far ahead and miss something out-

The Quinntonians are not spotted on their approach -since a patrol boat was in the area recently, it could be days before another passes by- just a few yards inshore however, behind the treeline, the rocks, and so on, the area is littered with tiny outposts, often manned by local farmers from a few miles inshore, who take turns to visit the sentry posts...and to check the many traps (think Vietnam, probably, pits, spikes, falling logs, and so on, but probably.. more of them)

On this day, Yasuki Jing, a fourteen year old girl, is on hand to see the strangers come ashore.

She's thin, and clad in ill-fitting light brown shirt and pants, woven uniformly with thousands of others, with technology more at home in the bronze age. Yasuki takes her duties very seriously, and almost collapses when she sees demons emerge from the mist which seems to perpetually shroud Dra-pol's shores. After a few brief seconds of terror, she turns and vanishes into the trees, running like the wind to her village to warn the defence collective there.

*Dammit! She must've seen us. Well, I'm not going to order a girl hunted down, so, let her go. I want a recon unit to move in her general direction. Follow her. BUT DON'T BE SEEN THIS TIME!
Now, I want a com unit set up here to keep in contact with our evac. The rest of you, secure the perimeter. And God Bless.
(Prayer Warriors kneel and begin their job of praying for the success of the mission and the safety of the refugees. Amen.

As the recon team moved forward, they find a huge pit trap filled with spikes, the hard way. Later, from there psotions in the trees, they see a village. There are armed men marching towards there position.
*Well, lets try to make contact. Linguist. You're with me.
As they move out of the cover they seem to incite panic among the populace, several women faint and the men look terrified. The linguist and the Sargeant raise there hands to show they are unarmed andblood splatters on sarge's face. Beside him, the linguists head has exploded. More shots ring out. THE GIRL! SHE SHOT CARL! He pulls his sidearm as he takes one in the chest the last thing he remembers is yelling NO! as his men open up with everything they've got. Amen.

The local defence collective, roused by Yasuki's frantic yells, drop their farm tools and race to the small armoury, while Yasuki's younger brother is sent by one of their two bicycles to the next, and rather larger village two miles away -they have a radio set.

Near hysterical, the girl is clearly unhappy with the pace of her comrades' mobilisation, and snatches one of the rifles herself, while several of the men hesitate to believe that there's actually any "demons from the ocean" as she claims. She raises the 7.7mm Type 99 Parachutist's Rifle, after struggling to work the bolt, and looses the first round as the Quinntonians finally become visible.

Only one man has yet followed her under arms, though a number of villagers still clutching their tools have curiously hurried along behind. Her step-father, his eyes impossibly wide as he beholds the foreigners, feels as if possesed as he too takes a shakily aimed shot into the contingent.

Seconds later the strangers unleash a frightening vengence, as Yasuki, her stepfather, and five of the assembled villagers fall to their return of fire. The rest scatter into the surrounding trees, while those back at the village are left in no doubt now of Yasuki's claims.

Perhaps it matters not- they've only four riflemen left. The four split into pairs, and move off into the forest.

They're not well trained, but are hardy country folk, skilled shots at least, used to hunting small game, and familiar with the terrain. They carry only bolt-action rifles, and limited ammunition.

(To elaborate (even more, sorry :) ), many collectives are expected, with very basic tools, to produce their own ammunition, which they do, but with very limited resources. This means that Dra-pol's citizen militas can rarely be disarmed, there's not much centralisation of small arms munition production, and so shutting down any one workshop disables only one squad of riflemen- however each squad is always working with only as much as its limited means can provide- this does at least mean that each collective usually has at least one brilliant sharpshooter)

Whatever unfolds in coming moments, Dra-pol is sure to be deeply affected on the most fundamental levels. Coming days may not be a good time to live under Kurosian's dominance.

The collective militiamen aren't quite sure what to do. They're confronted with a situation that simply does not make sense to them.

Seeing that they're outnumbered and outgunned, the locals set to laying more primitive traps, and even break out a few anti-personel mines (barely half a dozen, so the chances of anyone stepping on one are fairly remote, and the mines are decades old and may not even be live anymore)

the Jing boy will have reached the next village by now- they're radioing DaKhiem as we speak..the People's Army will arrive soon- these devils will be driven back into the ocean

The militiaman is right- word has indeed reached the capital, though of course details are sketchy, as the boy left before most of the fighting started. The Banat (secret police) know how serious the situation may be. If they knew a thing about the outside world, they might take advantage, hoping to get aid in the end. This is not the situation at hand, however, and the Director is informed of the apparent breach of Dra-pol's borders.

The ruthless Kurosian is not happy, and he resolves to take decisive action. He loves his military like a child loves a pet, or a favourite toy, and if the report is a hoax or a mistake, nothing is lost- any forces he mobilises will wreak vengence upon the source of the misinformation.

DaKhiem knows exactly where the alleged landing took place, but nothing since. Radar stations in Dra-pol are few and far between, and they operate the most primitive of systems, leaving most of the nation uncovered. The airforce is actually quite large- though equipped with obsolete aircraft, many of which may no longer even be airworthy. Non the less, numerous squadrons of interceptors are scrambled across the nation, and Shinden canard piston engine aircraft take to the skies. Their ceiling probably means that they won't be able to come close to any spy planes.

A ground force comprising an infantry company and a medium tank are dispatched from a base less than eighteen miles from the landing site, and they make gradual progress along one of Dra-pol's larger dirt roads.

From the air, the nation will be seen to be heavily forested, and almost fully highland, with valleys and mountains scattered all about. No major paved roads exist, and for the most part the forest canopy is thick.
No settlements larger than DaKhiem exist, that having a daytime population of usually less than thirty thousand, with only a small percent being residents. In a move mirroring events in Kampuchea a few years later, Kurosian's predecessor enacted a brutal forced ruralisation of the population, destroying all towns in the process.

As the base- camp comes under fire, after a few seconds it is ascertained that the shooter is a lone sniper. Machinegun fire rips through the treeline and the sniper doesn't return fire so, the situation is deemed safe.

Eventually the recon unit makes its way back to base camp, reporting one more death due to booby traps.

Nin, frustrated by the excessive range at which he's forced to fire on the devils takes up ever more precarious perches at the edge of the tree line, eventually exposing himself to get a clear shot at one amongst them who he's observed apparently in a position of authority- before he can squeeze off the perfect shot, however, machine gun fire more intense than he's ever known falls upon him, and he falls bleeding to the ground below. Nin becomes the eigth to fall before the strangers.

By now the small column of regulars is approaching the village just beyond that tree line, when the tank's radio (as it's the only tank in the detachment it is lucky enough to have a radio, unlike many in larger formations) picks up a transmission. Some very few of the words are familiar to the operator (Drapoel is a unique language, but heavily influenced by Korean and Japanese, and to a lesser degree Chinese- eclectic little land).

Campaign..respite ..nonsense ..something about the unwanted dead

The radioman relays his understanding of the transmission to his commander.

What on earth is befalling us?

Eventually a message is sent back.

"We are the living of these lands! You shall be the ones begging for respite in the face of the People's Army! If hell has cast you out, spirits of the dead, you are not for this world either!"

Of course quite what will be understood of that when the recipiants attempt to translate it I can't say :)

Now, sir, I can't say for sure but I think they said they wanted help. This is the most messed up languge I've ever seen. We've triangulated their position. Well, I want a heavy infantry unit with our linguist and commanded by Lt. Rev. Westgaard.
They get in the HUMVEEs (3) and head out to the contact point. As they head through what can only be descrbed as a trail, an old man and a child are moving a cow out of the way.
The column comes to a halt. Two soldiers get out of the truck and go to help. The child screams in terror and the old man bursts into tears and kneels, palms out pleading.
"Sir, what do we do?"
Well, give them some of your rations and your combat knives. And get that animal off the road.
(The soldiers gently help the old man, give him the gifts and carry on, leaving the old man with a sudden look of realization on his face.)

Following the fighting, mobilisations, and incidents like that with the old man and his grandson are sending ripples of alarm throughout the republic as news -and superstition-laden rumour- leaks.

Feared and mysterious, Banat squads are greatly stepping up their activities, with dozens of people vanishing from the (figurative :) ) rumour mills they fed.

At the village, the PA regulars stop and begin to interrogate the villagers, sending runners to fetch the three surviving militiamen.

Twenty-four regular infantry are on hand, armed with Type 99 rifles, Type 100 sub machine guns (looking like tiny carbines, with wooden furniture, weak 8x21.5mm cartridges, and low 450rpm rate of fire), a Tashio 3rd Year 6.5mm machine gun mounted on a tripod, and a number of "knee mortars" -actually a light grenade launcher, as well as in several cases short, curved swords of dull finish.

The tank mounts a 57mm low-velocity gun and two 6.5mm machine guns, and is protected by terribly thin armour.

As yet the detachment lingers around some farm houses on the edge of the village closes to the foreigners' landing point.

"Is that a tank?" asks Reverand Westgaard. The column has managed to sneak up on the relatively well- armed group.
"Pastor, what should we do?"
:"Set up a crescent attack formation and I will go out there with the linguist. And get Base-Camp on the horn to report this. I want a lot of prayer coverage on this one. It didn't go very well last time."

Meanwhile, " Jonah III Patrol boat, do you copy? My Horseman V is going down near a settlement in the north-central region. We are ejecting! We've had engine trouble! "

A young man peers in at the gathering of the Demons. They were casting a spell of some kind, all on their knees and chanting like that. He moved in to get a closer look.

[Drapoel Exclamation of alert]

The regulars look across the field, observing the two men stepping from the trees. The young man reaches their position at this time, and out of breath he tries to explain to them what he has seen.

The soldiers don't quite know what to make of it. There've been firefights- people killed- and now two of these outsiders step out alone. Why? Do they want something? Is it a trap?

The machinegunners are called, and the tripod gun, carried in by two men using poles, in the WWII Japanese manner, is positioned on the edge of a ditch, facing the treeline from where the strangers emerged.

Two infantry men with their primitive sub machineguns advance either side of an officer, who marches more confidently forward, pistol on one hip, sword on the other.

They approach the pair, and the officer identifies himself as Major Chek, and demands to know the demons' purpose.

(sorry about the delay- my computer is acting up again)

Chek tilts his head back and to the side a little as he regards the watch. He own a watch. A pocket watch handed down to him by his father. Its kept secret of course, if the Banat could prove his hereditary wealth he'd be in trouble. Dead, probably. -He doesn't recognise the strange device handed to him.

He leans a little to his left and converses in hushed tones with the man beside him, his eyes frequently darting back to the men before him. The third soldier, standing a little behind and to his right, still clutches his rifle, bayonet fixed, and looks ready to jump a mile.

The officer and the solider on his left attempt to decide what has been said to them.

They understand the word used for peace as indicative of a state of calm, and wonder if a cease-fire is sought. Then a word vaguely remembered from the old days- before the Directorate. They're talking about the old regime, aren't they?

"No, we're not 'government'" they insist.

Perhaps these men are Banat! They could again be rooting out sympathisers with the old law! Surely no one like that still exists?

Do we speak with those seeking entrance? The soldiers desperately try to find the right thing to say. They don't know about the refugees- contact with outsiders until now has been top secret. They appear confused.

Forgiveness! They recognise that much- but do they want to give it, or receive? We better not apologise- if Kurosian dictates that Dra-pol is in the right, we'll get it in the neck

Following the talk of praying, and reverence to the lord, the three look at one another, and after some hesistation make a firm and sudden step forward on their right foot, and raising their right hands exclaim "Glory from the Director!"

OOC-a few more figures, armed but obviously coming in peace, start slowly into the clearing.

(talking through a translater) "My name is Commandante Gung, you may rest here. The radio does not work. We will go to capitol in morning."
*a soldier comes in and whispers in Pastor West gaards' ear* "So... you're radio does not work? I must ask you, then who is asking for reinforcements to come to this area. Perhaps you are under attack. *Looks so innocent that it is sick* Do you require assistance?"

*Back at the capitol* LT. Lawrence is spotted by several citezens as he walks brazenly into the city. They seem to be panicking. A few of the older ones are covering their eyes and saying Banat.
"Lt. McGewen, let's head for that big building over there."

He requesitions some ricebread from the locals, and has had one of their pigs butchered for the occasion of his men's visit. Shares are offered to the visitors, and all the soldiers and officers are given equal portions.

From the relative security of the tank, meanwhile, a report is being transmitted to DaKhiem, and a transmission returns informing the detachment of incoming aircraft sent to observe the area, and of the approach of a patrol boat from the north (since we're only a few hundred yards from the coast, across the treeline) (I tell you that because for all I know you could be listening in on our transmissions)

_____

In DaKhiem ordinary people behave almost hysterically as the strangers appear.

Soon, the pilots will spy a man ahead of them to the left, wearing a tight fitting uniform with shining black boots, he beats a baton on each door as he passes, indicating that people should get inside and stay there. Another man approaches being on the right, doing the same.

They're Banat. Ahead, a truck is rolling up, also Banat. It carries three men, driver plus two armed men, each carrying a sword, pistol, and submachine gun. They've come to arrest the pilots.

Another of the Banat looses a bust from his submachine gun into his rogue comrade.

The driver of the truck jumps out, and runs around to the back, in which is contained a radio. He begins a frantic appeal for assistance. (assuming no one kills him before he starts making sense) it will take but minutes for dozens of Banat and regular soldiers to appear, this being the (tiny) capital.

The gunboat responds to the hails with a demand for identification. The young communications officer is, like most Drapoel at the moment, confused, to say the least, and he babbles somewhat. The gunboat is again a modified trawler, with about seventeen hands, a 12.7mm machinegun, and a four-tube light rocket launcher (with an effective range less than a mile, and unguided munitions)

Two Shinden canard (prop driven, with the prop at the back, pushing) fighters arrive above the coast around the village, and can be heard from the farmhouse below. They patrol the sky above.

By now the hectic scene in the capital plays host to over a hundred Drapoel soldiers, and two medium tanks (Japanese Chi-ha tanks from the thirties/forties).

Bemused infantry surround the truck and those about it, and move in to arrest everyone, on the orders of a Banat officer.

(I'd say more, but I'm not quite sure what the vampire types do when advanced upon by dozens of soldiers from all sides)

Back at the village, Chek is glad to gather that his guests are departing- this proliferation of outside items could land him in hot water with the Banat, and he needs chance to gather up all the gifts once the men are gone. ..Banat policy would be to learn what ever is possible from the items in secret before destroying them- Chek however it likely to horde them and to insist that they never existed.

(damn, I didn't mean to be away this long, I've rather lost my place)

The armed delegation comes closer to the capitol, when they are joined by some old-style piston fighter planes. They keep a respectful distance and are obviously having trouble just keeping up.
" If they open fire, just outrun them, we aren't even close to top speed, and we don't need any more blood on our hands." says Pastor Westgaard. "The city is just aways away, ETA 5 min."
They keep radioing ahead to let their attentions be known and get ready for whatever reception will await them.

But, more men like me will come, and they will not be carrying guns. I have two more gifts for you." He hands the officer an atlas of the world and a Bible.
"My friend, may God forgive us for the bloodshed we have caused and understand that we will not force our beliefs upon you or your people. We don't even know if we could if we wanted to. But we WILL come back. And we will help, peacefully, any who ask."
"Now please let me bless you," the officer nods, a single tear welling up in his eye, " May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His grace shine upon you. May He lift His Countenance to you and give you His peace."
They rise together and the officer says the first words he has said since their initial meeting. "Help."

OOC- The other soldiers have been mingling with the villagers and the native soldiers. We have been giving away everything we had that was of a peaceful nature and left the community with a supply of maps and Bibles. (I know they won't be able to read them, but, its the gesture that counts) Iknow I am laying it on a little thick but, I'm pretty positive that this will be the first time in their lives that someone did them a kindness with nothing to gain.

The gunboat slowly circles the stricken vessel at a distance, the crew unwilling to engage the helicopters, some thinking them dragons, eating the stranded sailors. This truely is the edge of the world! they think. Dra-pol's characteristic mist begins to descend on the rescue area, and the captain takes advantage to withdraw, hopefully unseen. He can't do anything with his crew in this state -and besides, who wants to **** with dragons?

Kurosian paces nervously in one of his vast offices. The speed of his movements are almost frantic, but his expression hardly changes, and his speech clear and deliberate, if a perhaps just a little strained. He is dictating a series of (underhand) plans to an attendant. The Director has several plans in mind, he seems to have covered every eventuality. Taking notes, the young girl can make little sense of him, not because he's speaking nonsense, but simply because he plans for eventualities beyond her understanding of the world.

By now eight Shinden fighters shadow the flight of helicopters into DaKhiem airspace, remaining as yet ignorant of the fighters flying far above. The radar might pick them up eventually, it's a game of chance with this weary old systems.

The Banat, aware of the transmissions from the incoming helicopters play for time. If they're in flying machines, they fight from the sky, and they have to land eventually, surely? We'll wait until they're down before we do anything.

Eventually they try to make clear a suitible landing spot, on the outskirts of the city, near the main road (such as it is) "We will send trucks - they will take you to see the most wise Director"

Indeed, trucks do begin to roll up to the site, a small number of infantry attending. These trucks are all a little bigger than the one seen in the city earlier- the softskin frames a little higher. (Not that I assume anyone will think a thing of it)

ooc:yeah, midday here, I'm afraid :) Normally I'm up all hours of the night, though, so I should be working more on your time in future, I just decided to sleep last night like a normal person.

OOC-LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!!!!!!! I'll just pretend I didn't hear that.

As the trucks roll forward one of the transport choppers (not the one with Pastor Westgaard) lands and Maj. McClement steps out with his small, armed delegation. They all know that if anything goes wrong, they're dead. However, they know their deaths will be avenged.
"Hello! We wish to give greetings in the name of Jesus Christ and for our nation Quinntonia!" He extends his hand.
The Banat have been waiting for this opprotunity, gunfire erupts in the street as Banat Agents disguise as civilians open fire. Then, troops start to come out of every crevice in the city. The delegation return fire and throw a few grenades, but are quickly gunned down.
Then, the Shinden fighters start an attack run. Most concentrate on the Joshuas. The Joshuas are out numbered ten to one but have 50 years of technology on these guys. All Choppers open up with there air-toair missiles for a quick volley and then switch to the twin Vulcans to dogfight those that still have a will to fight. Some of the other transport choppers drop about 60 Special Ops. Troops at the meeting sight to keep the ground forces occupied.
However, Pastor Westgaard and one Joshua heads for the big building, taking advantage of the confusion to make their getaway.
The Horseman Mark V Jet Fighters start on their way in to make missile runs at troop concentrations and obvious military targets.

"Kora! Kora! Kora!" yells the wing leader as the Shinden swoop into the fight- the Christians may be surprised by these finest of piston fighters, their top speed being in excess of 460mph, and their armament being four nose mounted 30mm automatic cannon- they're also highly manouverable, although of course they lack air-to-air missiles.

The trucks on the ground quickly show their true colours- the soft-skin frames fall away, reveiling heavy machineguns on some, which engage those Quinntonians who're on the ground, while others have automatic 30mm AA guns, and a few mount slower firing 50mm AA guns.

Hehe.

Actually, the Shinden are pretty much the same as the prototypes Japan built at the end of the war- if it hadn't been for the nasty nuclear incidents, they'd have been up and shooting down American bombers by '46 at least, I assume. There was some work on jet versions, but they never got far either, and the engine was weak as hell. Dra-pol's "Jetto" developments are brand new, and slightly superior, but still only early cold war era tech, really, and production is incredibly slow.
The truck idea just came to me as I wrote
I'm quite looking forward to the limited contact with the outside- it'll let us see how far behind we are, and hopefully I can play out further pretty unique developments.

I probably should have said in the last post that the Drapoel, especially the regulars guarding the trucks, were taking heavy casualties in the early stages of the fire-fight, their submachineguns inacurate, while their more controled rifle-fire is simply too slow for most soldiers to get off more than a couple of shots before being hit themselves.

Right, g'night then, we'll continue later, no doubt.

(ooc: for anyone unhappy to see me posting too much of another nation's side of the fight, let me say that I'm making the post following a telegram from Quinntonia, and I'll probably try to avoid being to specific with his losses and such anyway)

On their initial attack run, the Shinden surprise the Christians with their relatively good speed, outrunning helicopters quite easily. Their cannon make fairly good anti-helicopter weapons, and one of their quarry goes down in flames- several others are hit, but these are hardly soft targets, and with varying degrees of damage they manage to avoid crashing to earth.

After the start of the attack, the helicopters' superior turning circles and advanced weapons begin to tell, as the fighter pilots, unused to aircraft which are able to hover, and turn on the spot, quickly find themselves on the end of a missile volley. Most manage quite impressive evasive manouvers at first- they've seen rockets before, a quick change of course and they assume they're safe.

How odd that these people fire rockets at high performance fighters they think.. in many cases that proves their last though, as the "rockets" turn and try again.
The Shinden have no modern countermeasures, and no piston engine fighter can run fast enough for the pilot to have long for thought before a chasing missile is on top of him, and non of these pilots expect rockets to do anything other than fly straight.

As more and more Drapoel fighters come crashing down, the skies become more and more free of friendly 'targets', enabling the truck-based anti-aircraft guns more freedom- they might be of limited use against the jets, but they take a toll on the lower, and slower helicopters, bringing another down in the midst of a dogfight, and lashing one of the transports as it deploys special ops teams - several men are killed.

On the ground, the machine-gun trucks are effective at first, felling several Christians, but as missiles from the Horsemen begin to impact, they have little defence, and all but two are destroyed. The two which survive back off, hoping to escape destruction in the city streets.

For the first moments of their deployment the Special Ops. are fairly exposed, and snipers pick off a couple, but since the special forces aren't stupid, they've come down somewhat apart from the most obvious troop concentrations, and there's simply not enough Drapoel in range to inflict extensive losses. By the time PA regulars close, many of the Quinntonians have taken up good positions, and their automatic weapons cut down a whole wave of bolt-action rifle weilding infantrymen.

As the minutes drag on, more ground forces close in, including light and medium tanks- these prove relatively easy pray for the Horsemen fighters, which expend the last of their ground-attack missiles knocking out a not insignificant portion of the nation's armour, and blocking the small streets as troop trucks and other tanks attempt to get through.

In places the larger medium tanks simply drive over and through the tiny lodgings that line the roads, and block their progress. Several civilians are killed in the process, and a number of tanks simply break down in the attempt.

Eventually, as there's only so many houses in the way, and so many missiles for the fighters to loose, a small number of tanks appear at the scene of the firefight. 57mm HE shells begin to crash down around the Quinntonians on the ground, who're mostly too well dispersed for individual blasts to threaten many of them.

(best leave it at that, this post is already longer than a western history book on Dra-pol :) If the SO teams have any anti-tank weapons, they'll probably make short work of our armour. If that escaped Joshua attacks and damages the central building, I might actually try to use that attack to ..y'know, deal with Kurosian's plan regarding his fate.. (ie.fake his death))

The nations infantrymen are attacking in waves with a look of quiet desparation in their eyes, knowing if they show cowardice their families will be in danger. As the tanks roll forward, several od the Quinntonian forces pull LAW Rocket Luanchers from their packs and open fire on them, hoping to put enough wreckage in the streets that the tanks and trucks cannot get through.
In the air, the native (We still don't know what to call this place) Forces are taking advatage of yet another gross miscalculation by the Quinntonian forces. However, after the Horseman release their loads onto the now burning city, they activate their air-to-air guns and join the fight against the Shinden fighters. The Shindens are standing still by comparison and have their hands full with the choppers when the first devastating attack run comes. One Shinden gets caught in the air wash of a Horseman, and goes into a death roll as his engine stalls.
From the Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier, 10 Wings of Joshuas (60) take off at top speed, heading towards the captol, at top speed, they have an ETA of 15 min. They are following two more wings of Horseman (12) coming into the capitol at about Mach 1.3, ETA 2mins.
The coastal collective is in awe as wave after wave of flying machines go overhead. "Officer, is this the end? Is what happened to the rest of the world finally going to happen to us?"
"I don't know."

OOC- Also, about 120 more men are being flown to the city to reinforce their position. And Two super heavy Goliath Class Hvy. Tanks equipped with the feared cannon, "THE DAVID SMASHER" (heehee!) the largest and most powerful of its kind on a modern era tank are being "cargoed" into the city as well.

IC- Pastor Westgaard flies towards the capitol building and his Joshua Class escort unleashes a volley of missiles at the AA positions around the building, and then unleashes its twin Vulcans on the gaurds in the front of the building. When that area is cleared, another volley of missiles is unleashed at the major machinegun and troop concentrations around the front of the building as the transport chopper lands and Rev. Westgaard and his team of specailists(20 of the cream of the Special Ops., you know real movie stuff) get out of the chopper and runto the doors of the building as it takes off again. The chopper only reaches about 50 feet into the air when a lucky shot from a WWII era 90mm Recoilless Rifle "Bazooka" takes it out and it comes crashing down in flames. The Joshua fires its last volley of missiles at targets around the front of the building and then lays down a suppressing fire the likes of which the native forces have never seen (5000 rounds a minute'll do that). The team runs up to the building as one of them fires a rocket- propelled grenade at the door and it splinters into a million pieces. Unfortunately, the gaurds inside were waiting for that and open fire, killing 5 right there. The team returns fire and a few grenades, before moving ahead into the building.

OOC- The Choppers in the dog-fighting are coordinating and getting ready to fire their last two volleys of missiles before retreating away from the city in a desparate attempt to get as many of the Shindens off their back as possible for the run home. However, they've probably picked up on the rest of the airforce coming in from thier hidden collectives to help too. I have only a few more choppers and planes being held in reserve, so, if this push doesn't yield some pretty promising results, I'm going to have to decide whether or not to land troops on the coast or, to simply pull out.

Seeing the lack of impact imparted by their tanks, the officers begin to look -to say the least- concerned.

They call for more support, but find that much of the local infantry force has been called by the central directorate, for defence of the nation's headquaters, under attack by special forces.
The central building is quickly being surrounded, though efforts to drive off the gunship are resulting in significant casualties.

-Many of the Drapoel still don't quite understand who or what they're fighting, and a mix of fear and determination is making for an interesting fight-

As Kurosian flees via hidden tunnels into a bunker complex, his generals begin to realise the increasing severity of their situation.
The elite corps of the People's Army; the Red Bamboo are thrown into action.
These warriors receive most of Dra-pol's experimental armaments (in reality these experimental weapons tend to remain with the RB for years, simply because there's no money to put them into high-rate production for the regulars), and operate something of a samurai code. They're only a few thousand strong, and are still technologically limited, but a higher concentration of light machineguns and knee mortars will be found in their use, and their tanks are the far superior Chi-To heavies (as pictured on page one of this thread, I think), which mount long-barrel 75mm guns and boast heavier armour.

To enable the advance of the Chi-To tanks and attached infantry, many of Dra-pol's remaining (regular airforce) Shinden, and three squadrons (18 planes) of the RBs new Shinden Jetto take to the skies above the capital.

The appearance (even if they don't last) of the thundering SJs provides an artificial boost to moral on the ground, as infantry surge forward again, both near the landing site, and in an effort to re-secure the central building.

The 75mm guns of the Chi-To tanks fire upon enemy positions from greater range than the 57mm low velocity guns of the earlier tanks, and almost twelve hundred infantry charge, with rifle-butts, bayonets, and swords at the ready, light machine-guns cover their mad dash.

Dozens of them fall, but the rest surge forwards- if they turn around they'll get just as shot by the mg positions behind.

(The Shinden-Jetto as you might guess is Dra-pol's first jet fighter/interceptor. Development and production has been slow, due to the lack of a perceived threat, and the 18 represent the only currently operational jets in the nation (excluding foreigners, of course  ). They have a top speed of 515mph, and ceiling of 42,000ft - frankly their improvement in performance leaves them only one step ahead of the standard Shinden, though one squadron mount 4 light unguided rockets each for ground attack. The SJs might be effective helicopter killers, and more than a match for other fighters..of their era, but again lack air-to-air missiles, so would tend to be at the mercy of modern jets)

I'm honestly not sure what we're going to do when those extra fighters of yours arrive. Two squadrons of SJ and three Shinden are climbling to intercept- and ground forces are attempting to over-run your positions as quickly as possible, but beyond that, we're in trouble.

Our ground forces are about to be over-run by the seemingly countless waves of soldiers that are surging forward. It seems unbelievable, but even with the massive casualties being inflicted on them the RB troops are actually advancing. It looks pretty grim when one Corperal is heard commenting, "Only the lord himself can help us now."
At that moment the two wings of Horsemen Mark V's break through the clouds and start raining the wrath of God down on the advancing ranks. As the explosions destroy huge parts of the conflict site and outer city, the incoming Joshuas run into the intercepting forces. Two wings (12) of Joshuas rush out to hold off the Shindens and the Shinden Jettes while the rest of the attacking force continues to rush to the city.
* * *
When the main body of the attacking force gets to the city, the beleagered ground forces (only 20 left) are about to be overrun, even with the missile attacks. The Joshuas braek through the smoke cover and alternately engage air targets and attack the ground forces. Once they open up a landing zone. They drop the two Goliath Class Hvy. Tanks and they start rolling over the wreckage that was blocking the streets. These monstrosities could only be flown in on choppers specially designed for this purpose being as they weigh in at 110 tons and stand 20 ft. tall. the reinforcing troops are dropped just behind them and then, for the first time in Quinntonian history, THE DAVID SMASHER is fired in combat. *BOOM*
The flechette rounds fly out of the cannon at two times the speed of sound. They rip through the advancing armour like a hot knife through soft butter.

Meanwhile, the special Ops. forces commanded by Pastor Westgaard are involved in a running fire fight in the main building. Eventually they come into a huge office, richly appionted, with a young man sitting at the desk sorrounded by armed guards.
"Hold your fire!" yells Pastor Westgaard and the shooting stops.
"My father sent me to speak with you," says the man, apperently unruffled by the sounds of battle outside and..........in perfect English.

OOC-My planes have been ordered to protect the ground forces. But, gaining and maintaining air superiority has been deemed priority one.

Casualties spiral out of control - almost no medical care is available in the heat of battle, and wounded souls scatter the small city. By now over a thousand Drapoel -both soldiers engaged in mass charges, and civilians burried under their collapsing houses- are dead, and several thousand more seriously hurt.

The Banat, People's Army, and Red Bamboo officers alike are horrified to see their precious heavy tanks ripped apart by the enemy's big guns. They'll take a while to replace..

Sadly, the units in the thick of the fight are increasingly cut off from their highest levels of command, the officers in the field dare not withdraw without order from above, lest they be executed for cowardice. Casualties continue to mount, and tactics become increasingly desperate, broken, and aimless.

A few Red Bamboo have begun to cause some damage by making use of rubble and wreckage to make sniper and grenade-launcher attacks, and to set up MG nests, but while their kills/losses ratio is much better than that of the regulars, they are too few to turn the tide of the battle.

Aircover is gradually decreasing, as some fighters are lost, and others withdraw, out of ammo or low on fuel.

In the central directorate building, the junior Kurosian regards his visitors. They seem surprised by his fluency, attained thanks to Cambridge education, obtained significantly through his fathers secret contacts in Japan. The Director's son holds several passports, and is perhaps the most travelled man in Dra-pol.

"So, the west returns. Have you come for? Minerals? Does our little nation's geography leave it in a newly strategic location? Or are you missionaries? Do they still persist outside?"

While he speaks, his father makes more and more progress towards his final hiding place, and soldiers seem to seep through every opening in the building, down every corridor.

"You can stop all of this right now, we'll withdraw and then peace talks can begin!" yells Pastor Westgaard, seeing that they will probably never reach the outside if all the new RB troops sorrounding them begin to fire. Their only chance was to sue for a cease-fire.
"You've lost the city, it's only a matter of time, and we have a ship with two thousand troops on board off your coast (he neglects to mention that 1200 of them are missionaries, MASH Units and Prayer Warriors), and you will never be able to tell your people that this didn't happen. Listen, we have medical supplies, technology and expertise that could bring your nation ahead and into a new era of prosperity! What do you say?"

Outside, throughout the skies and countryside a battle of glorious spectacle is waged made all the more terrible by the sinking sun. The city is in flames and the Horseman, seeing the native airforce, in a full route, heads back to the QSS Yahweh for refueling and rearming. About half of the Joshuas also head back, those lowest on fuel and ammo.

OOC-We could probably pull out our entire force in about two hours, even under fire. So, he needn't even tell his people that he called for the cease-fire. he could claim that they won, and we retraeted. And then graciously allowed us to talk as guests.

The young Kurosian gazes at his visitors for a moment, his fingers interlocked infront of him.

"And are you and those two thousand willing to die?

"My father is dead, burried by your rocket attacks. Why should you not die also?

"You offer us bribes. Last I heard, communism was a familiar concept in your world- the people of Dra-pol can not be bought"

Kurosian Jnr. last visited the outside world at a time during which he was able to feel confident that the Soviets would eventually over-run the world. He still believes that these purportedly religious fellows are amongst a dying breed, and that a global revolution must be in progress by now. As such, he, and his farther, informed through his son, consider that this is as good a time as any to join the world. Surely as "communists" they can join the victorious armies of the revolution in finishing off the last vestages of religion and capitalism. Stalin, Mao, Kurosian, men such as these will dictate the path of the Christians he sees before him.

"Do sit down, gentlemen" Says Kurosian II (seems easier to call him by that name for now), as soldiers appear in the doorway behind the Quinntonians.

"Perhaps we can negotiate your next big life decision. Your soldiers withdraw, and you're allowed to go with them. You accept our scientists into your colleges, and the world never hears of your killing of our great socialist Director (again, this is based on the Kurosian assumption that Stalin's replacement is the most powerful man on earth, backed by Mao's follower) , and of our people in the streets."

"Willing to die? If you do "know about religoen" than you must know that my men and I all know where we're going to after death. If you mean sending us all to heaven, than yes, WE ARE READY. And though we won't jump on the current global band-wagon of "regime-change" and force yet another democratic government on your nation. Korosian II's eyes register only a little shock, it takes all 20 yrs of Reverand Westgaard's experience in the Diplomatic Corps. to even register that much.
"oh, you have been gone a long time. You are not alone, but Russia is now the Commonwealth of Independant States, a democracy. Germany has been united. And the iron curtain has fallen. There are a few scattered Marxist states left, but, it is widely accepted that Communism is a dieing concept. THEY TRIED IT AND IT DIDN'T WORK!!!"
"And as for the death of your leader, our nation would never try to hide that. Our government has an open book policy and has been openly broadcasting our movements for all the world to see."
With that Pastor Westgaard pulls out his radio, and orders the evacuation of all troops from the conflict zone.
"We are now going to talk," he says as he motions his men to drop their weapons and kneel.
"Lord God Jesus Christ forgive us for what we have done. We have sinned. Sinned in pride, sinned in arrogence and sinned in brutal violence. Pray forgive us Father. And bless this occasion that we might do your will.
And it is written, 'Once you were dead, doomed forever becuase of your many sins Ephisians 2:1' and let us be thankful that now you have forgiven us and we may live. and let us not cuase any more death on this day. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
He then takes a small parcel of communion wafers and wine out of his pack and they have the Lords supper right there. When they get up from their moment of prayer, they all look invigorated. Pastor Westgaard sits down and says, "Do we talk or do I die? But know this, that your way of life dies on this day whether I live or not. and as for educating your people, if any can pass the entrance exams, they will be admitted. And the first 1000 students will go for free. We are also willing to ship in teachers, build schools, hospitals and one day, a university of your own."

Why is it that on a container of TUMS it just says TUMS? If each individual TUMS has the the same thing written on them, is that the singular? Wouldn't that make them TUMSS'? Are we going to RP a "meeting" between my LT. Lawrence and his captors?

Captors is such a dirty word. Let's just say, they are hungry... (kidding)

Kurosian's son (I'll get him his own name soon :) ) appears irritated -perhaps embarrassed- by the outsiders' weak/soft attitude.

"You will leave." he says, breaking a lengthy silence. His fingers remain locked, he attempts to avoid displaying too much discomfort.

"You will leave and people will not die. Your soldiers will go home without knives in their bellies. Dra-pol will send out diplomats to rediscover the world. You can tell the familes of those who died that they suffered to reuinite a people with the world. That will satisfy your politicians, will it not?

"I will rule in my father's place. Life in Dra-pol will continue in our way. We have ruled as we saw fit for centuries."

Kurosian stopped for a moment as a man in Banat uniform approached and handed him a note.

"What do you know of these others?"

"Others?"

"There are other outsiders. Apparently they have taken several of your men. Popular opinion seems to think them the real demons. I am not quite so easily deceived, of course. "

(From the Asia regional board)

"Early on the sixth of August 2003 small teams of improvised diplomats in military uniform appeared on the southern border of Mainland Pride, and the northern border of Nausika. They announced themselves as representatives of Director Kurosian II's government of Dra-pol, and requested official recognition before the nations of Asia.

(Drapoel citizens believed the world destroyed, and the highest levels of government and military suspect that by now the USSR and PRC rule most of the world. They expect to be met by hard line socialist/communists, but are walking into two 'capitalist paradises', it seems) "

Lt. Lawrence is just chatting with his good friend....uh...well, he doesn't know her name, but they go way back.
" Well, let's see, why am I here? I .........uh........that is........... we........ are on ........ uh........ a mission of mercy. We are here to help the refugees and the unsaved. I was on a mapping mission, supplying intel on terrain, population center and military capabilities. My fighter experienced engine failure and we made an emergency landing to the north of here. Then, we were attacked by .............. uh.......... supernatural entities of unknown moral disposition. Our father who art in Heaven. Hallowed be thy name. "
"Shut him up! You must be getting weaker in your old age Lilith! He isn't under your power! He hasn't told us anything we don't know. And though you have control of him, he continues to fight."
"Weaker! WEAKER! I will show you weakness, parasite!" She grabs Vlad by the throat and tosses him like a rag doll THROUGH a tree. "You fool! He fights becuase he has been indoctrinated to believe he is the antithesis of what we represent. His will is strong but most priests who posses true faith can also fight us. After all, we've had run ins with Quinntonian priests before, they've always represented a problem to our powers!"

Meanwhile, Pastor Westgaard looks at Kurosian II and asks, "One more time, comrade, will you allow my government to send a more proper delgation? We would also be more than willing to pay war reparations for the damage and loss of life that we've caused here. Just think how much your loyalty would be cemented by improving the quality of life in your nation with schools, hospitals, universities and fabrication factories. all built by us for war reparations. we will also pledge to build an international class harbour and we will help to rebild your capitol. Of course, concessions will have to be made on your end as well, but I doubt any of your cash-strapped communist "friends" will be as generous. Our offer will only be on the table for a short time." He gets up to leave, "What do you say?"

"You may indeed send your delegation. I can assure them of nothing beyond their temporary permission to cross our borders.

"I see you are eagre for the off. You may go. Hotan!" called out Kurosian II, and a small but well built man with a shaven head and the elaborate uniform of an obviously high-ranking Banat officer stepped forward.

"Give our guests a pass and an escort. We don't want our militias cutting them down before they can arrange for replacements now, do we?"

Hotan bowed slightly, and barked a few orders in Drapoel. Two regular riflemen from the corridor hurried forward to escort the delegation out, and Hotan himself vanished into an ajoining room, meeting the party in the corridor moments later, to dispense paper passes.

Pastor Westgaard takes his pass and is escorted out. He and his team are soon picked up by a helicopter and taken out to the aircraft carrier.
As Kurosian II looks out at his capitol, burning and obscured by smoke. Dead bodies litter the ground and the only sound in the otherwise silent city is the sound of pain. Not only the screams of the dieing, but the wails of those that are now left to mourn.....and rebuild. But the change that he senses is far more profound than that. It is at the very core of the city. Its very soul has been changed. Changed by battle, and changed by ideas. It will take years to rebuid his military and his city. But, his Socialist allies will help. But, what if this man of God was right. What if Marx's dream has died. Will he accept the help from such an obviously corrupt democratic state. Perhaps their obvious wealth will be of use. And if they are so willing to build me a new and glorious nation, then so be it. But first, we must make our presense on the world stage felt.

"In a surprise move, the very contaversial troop presense in the new nation of Dra-Pol has been pulled out and this reporter is assured that they are on their way home. Also, the long awaited promotion of Pastor Gerald Westgaard to the Order of Bishops. He is best known for negotiating the peace process in Raccadia, where, in a marathon summit he negotiated the release of 43 hostages by rebel forces and a cease-fire that started a process by which that country became a Christian Democracy. In other news.........."

Prime Minister Jesse son of Obed has agreed to send a delegation to the "new" state. This delegation will arrive by helicopter in three days. It will be headed by Bishop Westgaard, after his ordination ceremony.

Also, remember that in NS terms, one year ago all the churches were one (Then we had 500 popes and Anti-popes and Patriarchs etc). (Long rambling post ahead, I fear..)

The 'clean up' in Dra-pol has begun, and for that matter come remarkably close to finishing.

Peasant farmers from all over have been flooding into the damaged areas, on foot, cart, bike, and via the limited rail network, thanks to its ancient steam engines. With their bare hands the people of Dra-pol are pressed in their thousands to rebuilding, and many of the smaller buildings have been rebuilt almost over night.

Surprised at how quickly the Christian intruders reached the capital, Kurosian II has ordered the main bridge in to the capital from the east to be destroyed. One of Dra-pol's primary defences has always been its difficult terrain, and there is no intention to see this natural barrier defeated again.

"War has changed, Hotan. If the outsiders can land men from the skies on to a precise spot, anywhere not covered by impossible terrain is open to them.
"DaKhiem and the paddy fields are exposed. In future we must be better prepared to abandon them. We have come to rely too heavily on this city. My grandfather destroyed the towns for a reason. They are but cages. For our souls and our nationhood alike.
"Perhaps this reconstruction is not required. Perhaps, my friend, we should again abandon the city. This Central Directorature may remain, but we must restore its fortification. It has fallen into disrepair. The tunnels will have to be extended. I have no intention of being trapped here."

Hotan looked somehow a little less than fully complicit, his loyalty was still first and foremost with Kurosian himself, and not the son. It must have appeared to the Director's deputy that Kurosian II was beginning to take his temporary position a little too seriously.

"The diplomatic teams, Hotan, what of their reports?"

"To our noth.." Hotan paused "..Director, lies a nation of Chinamen- capitalists. Staunchly. And to the south- still Koreans. Capitalists too. Both outnumber us six..eight..ten fold."

"Capitalists to the north as well? Things have changed even since my last trip, friend."

"One of Asia's largest authorities insisted that the revolution is not dead.. Director. Apparently the firmest followers.. such as ourselves, are few and far between, but the spirit lives in many."

"Then all is not lost. We will search them out, Hotan, and we will fight another revolution. The name Kurosian will be known."

"I must go to him, Director. I shall return with his direction."

Kurosian II exhaled heavily at the reference to his father's continued authority.

"Very well, Marshal. See that the capital is restored before the Christians return. Once they leave, perhaps we shall have no furher need for this place."

Hotan made to bow, and strode out before making much of it. Kurosian II stood at the window of Central Directorature, hands behind him, staring with intent for just a moment, before picking up a late fifties manual on modern weapons of war, and thumbing through the pages on anti-aircraft defences.

"Oh, but they have, my friend. He believes that what he is saying is true." Vlad smiled. "Nice to know that even in this day and age their are still fundamentalists."

Arucard gazed at the distant city. "Lilith, Vlad, we can leave the Quintonnians for now. We still have business to attend to with Drapol's new leader..." The three turn into bats and fly off. Almost immediately afterwards, Ltnt Lawrence hears the sickening sound of squelching feet. Turning around, he sees that a Banat and several of his former companions are lurching towards him, decayed and dribbling.

The missionaries will find most Drapoel still afraid of them -the media is hardly advanced here, and talk spreads faster than better defined information. Despite the violent nature of Dra-pol's society, and the poverty indured by its people, they'll find few problems with crimes against them, as most people assume their presence is by order of the Banat or some such, and that their purpose is probably something governmental. To interfere could mean death.

Meanwhile, at the Central Directorature (I assume) the vampires are met just inside by two regulars with bayonet-toting rifles. One barks a demand for papers, in Drapoel of course.
A few yards down the corridor in his office, Hotan hears the demand.
Back already? he ponders in regard to the Quinntonians.

Hotan is down, but by no means..out. The master of local martial arts that he is has taken blows from iron bars and come up..one would say smiling, but that's hardly his nature.

Compliance might be expected from a man who'd been sent to the ground by one kick and issued with demands. Hotan hopes that this expectation has been made of him, as from his face-down position on his office floor he comes to one knee, in a turn snapping his short curved sword from its scabbard and across the lower arm of his assailant. Within a split second he has risen to his feet and taken a step back.

As armed guards come clattering down the corridor from inside the depths of the Directorature, Hotan screams that an audience (with the Director) may not be demanded.

(ooc:the weight of numbers displayed by security at the Central Directorature is I think understandible given events in the last few days. As for Hotan; he's good, one of -if not the best- swordsman and fighter in Dra-pol, as well as being generally intelligent and focused, having received training that would seem ..incredibly intense to modern eyes. It appears that these vamps have something of a strength advantage on him, mind :( )

Moments later..

Westgaard's transmission is recevied by the Directorature, and a young Banat administrator replies in a fairly frantic tone, apparently granting permission to land on the outskirts of DaKhiem. OOC-What happened to LT. Lawrence?
IC-Bishop Westgaard is acompanied by a large delegation of linguists, reporters, technicians, engineers, scientists and regional humanitarian aid managers as well as highly trained bodygaurds. The total delegation is broken up as follows-
Linguists-30
Reporters-10 (including cameramen)
Technicians-50 (trained to assess the technological shortcomings of a region and make realistic recomendations towards what aid will be needed)
Engineers-20 (trained to look into large scale asessment, airports, harbors, railway networks power plants, etc.)
Scientists-20 (trained to look into the local ecological resources and make recommendations towards how best to take advatage of said resources with as little environmental impact as possible)
Regional Humanitarian Aid Managers-40 (proffessionals in coordinating foriegn aid programs)
Bodygaurds-135(One for every member of the delegation and 5 for Bishop Westgaard)

Bishop Westgaard asks permission to build a base-camp on the outskirts of the city for use as an embassy. He also asks that we be provided with armed gaurds for the embassy. (he knows that you will want to spy on us, and is providing an "in") He also requests that his survey teams be provided with armed escorts and given permission to begin their studies as soon as possible. ooc:hm, the Lt.? Where were we with him.. he's in custody in a small police station? If so, he could well remain there for months under the Drapoel system, but presumably in this case diplomatic means will see him tracked down as soon as the nation has chance to breathe. Likely he'll suffer a few days of beatings and generally poor conditions - unless I'm forgetting his escape/kidnap or something.

I dunno, Kanggye's probably a little over seventy miles away. Of course I'm being difficult, I'm acting out the response to alien assault of a nation described in depth in the first few posts.

ic: The more observant amongst the priestly commando-ridden delegations may have noticed that during their ..friendly little exchange, that the Red Bamboo solder et al have long since withdrawn.

Just moments after Henricks' last snipe at Quinntonian and Drapoel alike, a squadron comprised of the last Shinden Jetto, suplimented by the standard piston aircraft come racing over the rooftops at speed. Rockets and 30mm cannon fire pepper the scene on the ground, before 70lb bombs burst amongst the remaining delegates.

(ooc: sorry to potentially dismember established characters, but hey, I explained the Drapoel character in the early posts  )

Tanks and artillery guns are closing from all sides on the outskirts of the city, and a barrage is impending.

From his bunker, Kurosian I is broadcasting (without identifying himself directly) on behalf of the government Dra-pol's desire to be rid of the uninvited, and the nation's fury at the disorder brought upon it. He does so on frequencies directed at contact with foreign powers, and on domestic channels to the radios of his people.

In the CD, Hotan finds himself explaining to the masses of guards that everything is okay- not that it calms the situation much, as they're fighting tooth and nail against their zombified comrades.

Some of the bodygaurds start to fire upon the Dra-Pol troops that are quickly sorrounding the camp, but are quickly being overwhelmed. The non-combatant portion of the delegation are being cut down and slaughtered with ease as, in their panic they run right into an awaiting Red Bamboo ambush. They circle around, the leader of the 5 sending an announcement to the tower.

Jace Sa'Fyre: We come in a peaceful extraction mission for Quinntonia. We promise we will not fire on anything or get in anyone's way, as long as you promise not to harm the Quinntonian delegates, or their planes coming to get them, or our fighter planes.

Please have the delegates ready at the airport, unarmed, in 45 minutes, or suffer the consequences.

ooc:heh, you'd better have aircraft capable of landing on tiny dirt strips. Being as Dra-pol only offered a forced and limited opening of its borders a matter of days ago, we don't have an international airport - and since we only recently flew our first jet aircraft - modeled from piston engine fighters, the airstrips are few, small, and poor.

ic: Belatedly (and it really does take a few minutes, during which time we can't be sure that no ground units fire on the aircraft) a reply comes to the Raysian aircraft "You may take your people away. Strange forces at work. We can not assure safety. We have been attacked. Do not linger."

..Of course, the reply is in the little understood Drapoel dialect, so it's up to you how much you understand.

On the ground, the order to hold fire eventually reaches units attacking the Quinntonian/Roanian meeting place, and the barrage softens, and finally lifts altogether, though the area remains encircled (there's a small airstrip in the surrounded area, where the delegations were directed to land).

In a small village some miles away, police fire shots in the air as locals lay siege to the station where the lost Lt. is held - the crowds are demanding his head, and the local authorities, heavily outnumbered only have so much resolve in resisting (frankly its their fondness for authority before their commitment to protecting the prisoner which inspires them to block the mob at all).

ooc:No no, it's alright; thanks for asking though. Dra-pol exists in the modern era, it's just that since around WWII (RL one, that is) the nation has been totally isolationist, and its people were taught that the rest of the world ended during the fight between Soviet and Japanese forces in the area, and our technology and society stagnated at that level, more or less. There'll be efforts to catch up in coming months and years, probably, but with our imploded economy, and brutal nature, we're not likely to get far without taking flak.

Kurosian II, still in his office in the CD, having ordered the bombardment on the outskirts suspended, issues a directorate: posters explaining the withdrawl of outsiders, and the temporary armistice are to be placed in villages, on trails, and in woodland. We cannot allow his "inquisition" to have full reign of the nation, and the civilian lives must be protected at all costs. Do not move in yet as my government is currently calling in some old favors. We do not wish this to degenerate into full scale conflict, but must ask that all "inquisition" and other Roanian delegates leave the area at once. We have promised to do everything in our meager power to help the Dra-pol, and the people of Quinntonian do not take such oaths lightly.

ooc: Uhm, right, I think this is going a bit awry.

I was trying to create from a secondary nation (since I was originally thinking colonial outpost, and that didn't work out for reasons utterly unrelated to this thread) an interesting erm freak-state, a more extreme North Korea brought into the world by a crisis with some journalists and maybe a few missing tourists- suddenly there's magical vampires transmogrifying and bioweapons being pointed at other people's nations.

If people want to have another Christian in-fight, far be it from me to stand in the way, but I think Dra-pol has had its fill of uber-tech and magicians. I don't mind some creative liberties and fully accept and expect that Dra-pol be behind the times a bit, but this is somewhat out of control, I'm afraid.

In short, Dra-pol isn't falling to some fantasy inquisition, and no one's getting wiped out over my secondary nation unless they think it'll be fun for them.

Rescue away. The Drapoel are just going to stand aside and allow extractions, considering that their entrance to the world scene has been quite dramatic enough.

Bishop Gerald Westgard calls Mr. Black of Roania. He tries to explain that Quinntonian involvement in this nation has included a promise to help in any way we can. He understands that each nation involved is having trouble backing down because of religious, idealogical and egosistical grounds, us included. So, we are formally requesting a peaceful summit open to any and all nations interested in order to resolve this without the deaths of many in every nation involved. We are also going to offer this to Raysia and Dra-pol so that no WMD will have to be deployed.

Let me think... Roan is a large city near the centre of the island of Roania. At the centre of the city, there is a very nice building, slightly reminiscent of the Kremlin. Scramjets screech across the sky occasionally. In the eastern suburbs sits the seat of the Inquisition, a tall, gothic building. In the western suburbs are several military buildings. The RCIA is based in Port Agua, which is one of two points on the island not covered by unenterable cliffland. In southern Roan sits the Pana Sophia, which dominates the horizon. Across the north are several hundred factories
