Not just education but attitude - it's all very well to be educated about safe-sex if you feel ashamed to go and buy condoms in case your parents will find them or you can't get them because you're underaged or if you are getting peer pressure.

Or should that be it's about education but not just giving the facts to children - it's about educating parents too to listen and talk to their children about these issues. And indeed about education wider society in our attitudes. It's not a simple problem.

That's why it has to be a concerted effort, both at home and at school. Sex is a real thing, and people have it all the time. There's no point in just being prudish about the subject. Open your mouths, be available. If my kids are to find about sex, let it be because I took the time and discussed it with them. My mother did that, and it immensely help me and my brother in our decission making in regards to sexual encounters.

The government alleges that of those 10 pregnancies, at least 6 are teenagers.

My fencing coach was a member of a Spanish club in high-school, and his group went to Spain, once; four of the girls came back pregnant.

It could just be that your nation has more attractive young men then average--damn Don Juans lack consideration.

Lack of context is fun. :)I dunno, I looked at the thread (almost a year ago :eek2:). Awfully big and red prosthetic truck balls is not that out of context . . .

But would they want to piss off the person who owns the house and earns all the money allowing you to cook the food etc. That's the trouble with the 50s model, the imbalance in power. After all the man can always hire someone in to do all the cooking/cleaning etc, the women would have a lot of difficulty earning enough money to survive (especially with children) should she leave. hmm... depends. she can take some stuff when she leaves you know (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorena_Bobbitt). especially when it's in the middle of the night... who knows what the male might find himself cut off of when he wakes up...

That is exactly the problem. Easy to manipulate air-heads.

Not a bad thing for me.

They don't have to teach their kids about sex, Instead they can send their teen daughters to me and I can teach them about sex. Those parents parents whose sensibilities prevent them from talking to their daughters about sex can rest assured that I have taught their daughters everything they need to know.

Nobody's talking about oppression except you, because I guess you're really defensive about this subject.

You've confused 'defensive' with 'sarcastic response.' Don't worry about it, you're not the first, and God knows, you won't be the last.

Nor any sense of humor, apparently.

You are lecturing me about having a sense of humor? Am I in the Mirror Universe? If I turn around, will I see a goateed Spock glaring at me?

...

Did you actually just try to argue that your sarcasm in response to criticism is evidence that you WERE NOT being defensive?

In all honesty, friend, I haven't the slightest idea what universe you are in.

Look, let's stop with this personal attack fest and get back to the issue:

If you hold doors for female and not males, you are engaging in sexism. You like to describe this as "treating women extra special nice." Go right ahead. Just don't flip your shit when people point out you're being sexist, and don't be surprised when nobody perceives you as doing some charming favor for the fairer sex.

My sarcasm is evidence that I like to be sarcastic because I think I'm funny. (feel free not to point out that you don't think I'm funny, believe me, you've gotten that point across.)

If you hold doors for female and not males, you are engaging in sexism.

Sure, OK, as you like.

You like to describe this as "treating women extra special nice."

Yes I do. A friend of mine has a t-shirt she wears occasionally, it says 'Chivalry: One of the perks of being a chick.'

Go right ahead.

Thank you, I think I will.

don't be surprised when nobody perceives you as doing some charming favor for the fairer sex.

I actually would be surprised if nobody thanked me, as it might be the first time in human history that a 100% uniform reaction to a stimuli has been achieved. As it stands, the overwhelming majority of reactions runs from 'civil' to 'polite gratitude.'

I'm scared of women. The way I see it:
1. The longer you go before finding a mate, the harder finding a mate becomes.
2. Women are complex beings. One wrong move and you'll do something to offend her. When that happens, it's just you and your hand for a while longer.
3. Women are social. Screw up and it's either go gay or die alone.
4. Not being a woman, I'm clueless as to what to do. Will letting a woman know I like her make her think I'm a pervert? Will being more subtle make her think I'm uninterested? Is it better to risk being labled anti-child or a pedophile? What the hell do they want?

And the whole sexism thing. Will being willing to be a stay-at-home dad make her think I'm making fun of stay-at-home moms? Will being a working man make her think I'm some 1950s sexist beast that believes men should work and women should cook and clean?

And femenism? Will focusing only on womens' plight make people think I can't tell a straw femenist from a real one? Will liberating men from masculinity (ie. "real men" die in wars and lose hands in factories. if you don't, you're not a "real man".) be seen as not caring enough about the oppression of women?

The world is way too complicated. I have no idea what the hell is going on half the time.
