TV shows you miss

So what are some of the TV shows that you miss, that they don't show anymore?

For me:

Clone High: It was an awesome show, and it only ran for one season. Why do some awesome show only play for one season while crappier show get greenlighted for another season?

Favorite Quote: JFK's Clone: "Nothing bad....ever happen to the Kennedys! HA HA!" *car flips over*
Dr. Scudworth: "Did you see the pool? They flipped the bitch!"
JFK's Clone: "I'm a Kennedy, I'm not accustomed to tragedies!"

Invader Zim: One of the BEST show ever to air on Nick! EVER! If you ever want to laugh your ass off then you need to buy the complete DVD set of Season One. Invader Zim actually got canceled for a very stupid reason.

The show was axed after the 9/11 tragedy. It was beleived that a show featuring a megalomaniacal alien attempting to destroy the world was 'too sensitive a subject' to be showing after the 9/11 attacks.

Link (http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/6880)

You really gotta wonder who's so stupid that they'll confused a cartoon alien who can't even keep his robot Gir under control much less take over the world, to Islamic terrorist...

Favorite Quotes:

Gir: "Yay we're doooomed!"

Dib: [gasping] Sorry I'm late... horrible... nightmare visions!
Ms. Bitters: It's called life, Dib. Now sit down.

[at the North Pole]
Elves: [singing] Bow down... bow down... before the power of Santa! Or be crushed... be crushed... by his jolly boots of doom!

Zim: What *is* our mission, GIR?
Gir: Blend in with the indigenous life, analyze their weaknesses, prepare the planet fo the coming madness, yay!

Zim: Computer, give me all the information you have on the FBI.
Computer: The FBI is a government law enforcement agency.
Zim: Continue.
Computer: Insufficient data.
Zim: "Insufficient data"? Can't you just make an educated guess?
Computer: O... kay... Um, founded in 1492 by, uh... demons, the FBI is a crack law enforcement agency designed to... uh, I dunno, fight... aliens?
Zim: I KNEW IT!

These are the only two shows I really miss.

I would put Celebrity Deathmatch on here, but they're showing it on MTV2 now.

I know what you mean, but I think in some ways they made the perfect number - it never had the chance to get even remotely clap (I am sticking to Preston rules swearing from now on) - every episode is a gem.

I miss that show too. And I wish Firefly went longer, but I has the dvds so I can't say I miss it.

Now, I'll join in the Pinky and the Brain and Animaniacs chorus. Glory days indeed.

There was a cartoon that I used to watch as a kid, about 5 mins long, about a small black and white bird whos power wasw the ablity to 'multiply like the stars in the sky', and for th elife of me I can't remeber the name of the damn thing.

If you're of a certain age, you like both BSGs. TV in 1978 was not exactly highbrow and it was a breathtaking show. It still looks good on DVD, which few 30 year old TV shows can say.

no offense intended but i don't miss any of them a dam bit. i do miss, have always missed, the potential of what that media couldhave, wouldhave, shouldhave been, but sorry, it just never quite, to my taste, entirely was.

today we have the internet where real people, you and me and anybody, can actually be creative and share that, and to me, this is intrinsically a much much much better thing.

of course economic intrests can't stand to see that, trying to make something to get their greedy little fingers into and put us back into the box of being bottle fed their brainwashing out of it. so far i think the've only been partially successful at doing so. human ignorance is perhapse not quite as infinite as they insist on assuming and attempting to exploit.

Blackadder
I think Blackadder ran it's full course. Once they'd done the Dark Ages, Age of Discovery, Georgian Period, and World War I, there wasn't a whole lot left. It would have been nice to see a Victorian Black Adder, but a lot of that ground was covered between III and IV.
Futurama
This I agree with. The movies just aren't the same, probably because of the long break in between.

Although I never knew it on it's first run, I wish there were more episodes of Bottom. That show was delicious.

'Nathan the Nazi Octopus' was a great show from back when I was a kid.

Ok, I made that show up when I was bored in politics lessons at school a few years ago. In my draft stories, he lived by day in a tank owned by Uncle Adolf and Auntie Semitism, but at night engaged in battles and witty wordplay against Colin the Communist Cod and Anna the Anarchist Anglerfish. Unfortunately I have no idea where these drafts are now, so I can't sell them to the BBC for the 12 quintillion quid they surely merit:(

Stick Figure Theatre, Postcards from Hell, Plimptoons... I miss Liquid Television. :(

Other shows:
Fame (not that reality show crap)
You Can't Do That On Television
Roundhouse
Turkey Television
Not Necessarily the News
Kids in the Hall
Global Frequency (the best show never aired)
Tucker's Witch (a P.I. is married to a witch who uses her hubby's cases to practice her 'magic')
Scarecrow and Mrs. King (a down-to-earth Housewife is sucked into the world of espionage.)
Automan (a Computer Generated hero and his sidekick... Bit)
Probe (long before Eleventh Hour...)
Something is Out There (could've been written better, the Premise Rocked)
Birds of Prey (Comic Basied series about a trio of Crime Fighting heroines)
Spy Game (Retired Agent is charged with rebuilding the Nation's Intelligence Service)
Police Squad in Color (better than the Naked Gun Movies!)
Danger Mouse
Undercover (pulled because it was deemed 'too realistic')
Greatest American Hero
Night Court
Secrets of Isis (picked this one up as a DVD set... ahh... nostalgia.)
Electra Woman (who remembers this one?)
Wonder Woman (another Nostalgia DVD added to my collection.)
Land of the Lost
Mysterious Cities of Gold (if anyone can point to me to the DVD's... if there are any...)
CatsEye (The First Anime I fell in love with.)

Brimstone--original hunt-down-the-escapees-from-Hell series; better than Reaper (which isn't too bad btw)

Twin Peaks--a damn fine cup of coffee

Those were pretty much the only things I watched on MTV. Apart from Headbangers' Ball with Vanessa Warwick.
Futurama
Yes!
'Nathan the Nazi Octopus'
That sounds like it'd be fun. Octopus is great - I guess I'd just have to deal with Nathan being a Nazi. :$
Dexter's Laboratory!
Hehe.
Kids in the Hall
Birds of Prey (Comic Basied series about a trio of Crime Fighting heroines)
Danger Mouse
Wonder Woman (another Nostalgia DVD added to my collection.)
Those I remember well.

Man, there are so many TV shows that I grew up with, most of which produced by Gary Larson. Watching the reruns always brings back fond childhood memories.

Luckily, they have finally decided to put "The Fall Guy" on DVD (2 seasons so far, I need more. More! MORE I say!!!) That's among my favorite TV shows ever!

I think it still had life in it. A couple of ideas they've floated have sounded good. The problem is that they ended it so perfectly (both goodbyeeee and the last special) that they couldn't really top it. It'd still be good but not as good. I still miss it though.

While I am an admitted Whedon-fanboy with a not-so-minor obsesion with Summer Glau, so naturally you must take all my gushing praise with a grain of salt, Firefly truly was an amazing show cancelled because of a variety of factors that were beyond its control: Faulty advertising, improper airing, and frequent pre-emtpions for sports programs.

The series is awesome, if short, the follow up film is equally comparable, and the comics are art.

You. Must. See. It.

Two words : Laser Torpedoes. 'Nuff said.

Oh, agreed. But in a time when it'd been nearly 10 years since serious sci-fi had been done on television... (compare the old BSG to Space: 1999 and consider how bad it COULD have been...). And I can even forgive that, the boy & his dog storylines, even the "Fire in Space" episdoe.

Heck, the recent BSG has had it's share of dialogue disasters too. Like most of the Baltar-in-his-head-with-Six scenes (heck, ALL of them in Series 1!).

But that misses the point: all sci-fi series require one to suspend disbelief. Maybe it's because I watched a lot of Dr. Who as well, but I have no problem suspending it far enough that in the old BSG universe they found a way to mix lasers and mass drivers to form a "laser torpedo". ;)

Star Trek: Enterprise. I am a born Trekkie - both my parents are fans. We were extremely disappointed when the show was canceled.

Commander In Chief. A great show (it won a freaking Emmy), and ABC put it on hold during the 2006 Olympics, then moved it to a different timeslot. Idiots.

I didn't catch Firefly while it aired. I actually discovered the show (via a friend) when the trailers for Serenity were out. I saw the trailer once and got confused by it. I later watched the series, then saw the trailer again, and became totally psyched. I cannot recommend both the series and the movie enough. Joss Whedon is brilliant, noteworthy for his excellent dialogue (at least one in four lines in Serenity are funny/memorable) and ability to switch between comedy to drama without missing a beat.

Also, a recent poll by New Scientist named Serenity the third-greatest sci-fi film of all time. It was only beaten out by 2001 and Blade Runner, and got more votes than all the Star Wars movies combined.

Boy Meets World

I dated a woman 10 years my junior and she was a huge fan of the show. I grudgingly watched it with her once and was immediately hooked. I was surprised that a show aimed at, well, kids, could be so well written, thoughtful, and genuinely funny. Especially considering there was a Savage involved (I loathed Fred Savage, but Ben was a lot of fun to watch). Besides, Topanga, Angela and Rachel? Hot, hot, hot.

Nobody was talked down to, even in the first years of the show. The show's tone managed a very deft change as the characters (and actors) grew up.

Royal Canadian Air Farce - I will miss it when it officially goes off the air after the New Years special.

The show lost its spirit when they started pulling enemies out of their ass. Half the entire series was dedicated to fighting the Goa'uld. Then they started moving into god villain. Anubis was half-believable, but the Ori? The moment they introduced the Ori, they jumped the shark. Actually, they jumped some trashcans when the plot line changed from the humans being just humans rising in the galaxy to being Ancients: Part 2 and started exercising ancient technologies as their own. And subsuming the other races in the galaxy. They obviously started losing budget, or creative talent.

Great choices there. 3-2-1 Contact got me hooked on science in the late grades of elementary school. Connections was just plain brilliant. Between Burke from England and David Suzuki from Canada, much of my formative years was spent being televisually educated by the non-US English-speaking world. Save for Cosmos and Carl Sagan.

And how the frell could I have forgotten Farscape? Ben Browder played the best fish-out-of-water-gets-used-to-water-and-learns-to-surf character ever. My favorite has to be the partially-animated episode, a tribute to the Warner Brothers animations of Bob Clampett, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones.

It was toyed with so many times by FOX execs that the writers wrote what was happening to the show into the scripts. The third season bit where the Bluth Co. was given an order for 22 houses but had the order reduced to 16 was a direct numerical reference to episode count being jerked around by FOX. They wrote in time slot changes and all of the other arbitrary shit that FOX pulled. It was brilliant -- too brilliant for broadcast TV. The aborted third season was able to wrap the series up because they knew the end was coming.

Because it was pure pish. Nice effects and shit, but it was pretty weak dialogue-wise, and that's what really ought to count.

We disagree then. I can't imagine watching anything as much as I watched Farscape if it had bad dialogue. I'm not going to dredge up scripts or anything because there'll be no convincing you. I loved the dialogue, the acting, the concept, the effects, the characters -- everything.

Not a matter of taste. A matter of whether or not you've ever seen it. I haven't. Sorry.

It is, without doubt, my favourite TV show involving a mountie being sent to Chicago. It's all on YouTube, look it up. The pilot is a good watch, if a wee bit different to the proceeding series.

A reason why you bloded this one? But I too miss this show, a friend is holding a Captain Planet party next week, where we watch as many shows as we can, can't wait.

But I see that you also listed the Power Rangers. Eww, I started watching the show a few times but it was crap, even for my 8 year old mind.

Bolded because I hadn't seen anyone else list it.

But. You dislike Power Rangers? I barely remember it, but I do, and anything I remember has to be gold.

Alot of old shows are shown on reruns.
Ahhh, but so many of those shows are not in reruns and, instead, were made into bad movies or broadway musicals. . . . I would rather the shows came back on then pay $12 for a bad movie remake with a bad plot or $100 for a bad broadway musical. Bring back those shows!

Red Dwarf- A brittish sci-fi comedy. I would really like for them to bring it back somehow, and with evolved dolphins ruling the Earth.

David the Gnome- just a good classic nick-toon. From Germany; I think.

Tomorrow People- The nickelodion version.

Pete and Pete- another nick show.

Twin Peaks- Because mother f***ing Twin f***ing Peaks, damnit!

Push- it was good too.

SeaLab 2021- why?

Johnny Quest- In all his versions.

Duckman- It was on the USA network, way ahead of its time... Also do not confuse it with Howard the Duck the suck arse movie.

Parker Lewis- Not sure if I spelt that right, but it was also on USA network.

Others include: The Critic, Futurama, The Tick, Married with Children, Mighty Max, and I kind of miss Captin Planet.

I don't remember So Weird, but I do remember Are You Afraid of the Dark.

So Weird was on Disney. Young girl, her brother, her rock star mom, and their roadies go from town to town where the girl encounters and investigates the paranormal. Kind of X-files for the younger crowd. Season two went very dark and plot heavy then the actress playing the girl left and was replaced by this little blond twit that Disney thought could sell songs and the show was lightened up and more kiddiefyed.

Red Dwarf- A brittish sci-fi comedy. I would really like for them to bring it back somehow, and with evolved dolphins ruling the Earth.

Overdone. The show jumped the shark with the addition of Kochanski. FIrst four seasons were brilliant. Five was okay, and everything after that was a pale imitation.

Twin Peaks- Because mother f***ing Twin f***ing Peaks, damnit!

Pretentious David Lynch horseshit.

SeaLab 2021- why?

First season was funny. Kinda the rule for Adult Swim originals, except perhaps The Venture Brothers.

Duckman- It was on the USA network, way ahead of its time... Also do not confuse it with Howard the Duck the suck arse movie.

Absolutely brilliant show.

Parker Lewis- Not sure if I spelt that right, but it was also on USA network.

Parker Lewis Can't Lose. It was a Fox riff on the idea of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but it was excellent in it's first two seasons. It was made by Canadians, which explains why it was funny (as compared to the actual Ferris Bueller movie-as-TV-show on NBC that I wouldn't show to an audience of my enemies).

The best thing Jason Alexander ever did with his career, and people shat on it.

Let's try Survivor: Antartica. Take all your contestants, round them up in some scientists cabin, plant a bunch of cameras anywhere, give them a couple of pungee sticks, a pack of matches and a hunting knife, and film them for 60 days. No stupid eat a bug or walk across some stepping stones with a big stick in your hand, just one ultimate task; survival. Give them only running water and electricity that can only be obtained by running a man-powered generator. Would really up the rating if some of the contestants resorted to cannibalism just to stay alive. You have to air the show truman show style 24/7 live footage. Even better would be to put it on PPV and you could make millions!

I've been asking about this for a long time now. Where's the COLD survivor? Answer? No quasi-semi-partial nudity to blur out. It wouldn't sell, cannibalism or not. American(men 18-34)s don't like violence without some titty.
