You're missing out. Depending on style, I can name tons of great ones.

Personal favorites: Harpoon IPA, Hazed and Infuzed, Sam Boston Lager, Magic Hat (Circus Boy, Hi.P.A., Hocus Pocus, #9), Flying Dog (In-Heat Wheat, Snake Dog IPA, Tire Bite Golden Ale)

All great choices. I tend towards the American IPA style and love hops, but some of those are much more gentle.

Yuengling is pretty famous. However, I have never seen a bottle of it anywhere. It must not get out to the west coast. It is pretty much only distributed East Coast US, and barely makes it into southwestern CT at that.

Canadian/Belgian :p
Uh...Blue Moon is neither Canadian nor Belgian. It is a Belgian style (very different than being Belgian, to the point where there was a lawsuit about it), and was originally created by Coors prior to the Molson buyout.
I don't know how many of these get out of New England, but a lot of Samuel Adams' specialty beers are pretty enjoyable. I'm a particular fan of the Cherry Wheat, Cream Stout, and Honey Porter.Ever try the White Ale in spring? One of my favorites from them.

Also, go to the Harpoon brewery...they don't do a tour, but do a free tasting with as much as you want to drink. Sams tour is decent too, and lets you try some of their more rare beers that sometimes don't make it to market (they had their cider last time I was there, which they don't sell commercially.)

Is not beer. It's closer to a wine, but really, Mead is just Mead.

As far as beers go, a good stout (especially Guinness), JW Dundees Honey Brown Lager, Bell's Oberon, Arrogant Bastard can be good but I have to have something equally strong in flavor to eat along with it.

There's also Pyramid Apricot, which actually tastes very much like apricots. Very tasty beer, though dangerous, because it's so damn drinkable that you've gone through a whole six pack before you know it.

I'm told it is also a great beer to have with some weed.
I've had an apricot beer before (different one though) McAuslan's apricot beer (or something along those lines). It's also yummy.

Whats everyone (at least those of you of age...because we all know that no one underage drinks) on NSGs favorite beer?

Im quite partial to Blue Moon.
I don't like beer that people put things in. With Blue Moon, it's oranges, with Corona, it's lemons. Good beer should stand on its own.

I like Red Hook ESB. If I can't get that, then Sam Adams Pale Ale is good.

It's usually a good practice to try whatever is brewed locally, though. You can find some really good beers that way.

I've not noticed any greasiness, but as for heavy it's not a stout unless you practically need to chew it. Maybe the stuff they ship to Spain is different than the stuff they ship to America.

True, one of my friends can't drink a whole bottle of Guinness, she says it's just too, well, much for her. Though she can chug a car bomb as good as any of us guys, lol.

Yeah, it is an Aussie beer.

We don't drink the stuff anymore but it is an aussie beer.

When they "Fosterized" the world that left out Australia for good reason.

It is quite hard to find Foster's beer in Australia.

It's more common for girls to get it with the fruit, and guys to pass (not surprising, though, that has little to do with the quality of the drink)

Some people may never like the taste, but it is generally considered that people as they get older do acquire a taste for more wine.

When you are younger the sweet whites are more preferred and then as you get older you also begin to enjoy dry whites then sweet reds and then finally dry reds as well. While that isn't true for all people (I myself have always enjoyed a dry red) it is considered to be the case as taste buds develop and change.

Have you been drinking many sweet whites?

Ah. Not being much of a wine drinker, I don't know which are which (except for the distinction between white and red of course) and have mostly had cheap wines. The few times I've had classier wines, I didn't like them much better though. They were probably dry reds.

Yeah maybe, try a Riesling, if you do want it to be sweet. The cheap ones, such as two-buck-chuck or out of a goon bag are not going to be good at all but a good Riesling you might enjoy. Stay away from house wines at pubs they are usually a blend of the crappier grapes and are no good, I'm feeling sick in the stomach thinking about one I consumed quite a few years ago.

Many bottles usually have a description on the back that gives some idea as to what it might be, and if it is sweet or not. If you are at a decent restaurant the waiter should also know and be able to recommend one for you and if at a bottle shop the attendant should have some idea of what is what.

I was referring mainly to the Napa and Sonoma county ones. For a state with water issues, we sure do make a lot of wine. More than all of the rest of the US put together, and we'd be the fourth largest wine producer if we were an independent country. This is another reason I want to like wine more, because it would support my state's economy.

Indeed. That's when you know a beer isn't just bad.... It's fucking terrible.

After my first year at university I've yet to come across something quite so appalling. Then again I don't think the market here for 'lite' beers is anywhere near as big as it is overseas, especially US.. No, to think one can drink it.

Oh, yeah you need to have drunk so much that you can't taste it before you can drink it and enjoy it.

But I would rather drink my home brew before touching Bud. Though I must admit my home brew isn't all that bad and is drinkable, got some praise from people who enjoy a good drop and know what they are talking about.

How hard is brewing your own beer? I have a bit of a reputation among my friends for being quite the drinker, and brewing my own beer would be very in character.

I've had friends that made beer. Generally, batches turned out pretty good. I've thought about it from time to time, but just haven't been able to overcome the inertia of laziness.

Almost all American beers, with the exception of a few, taste like watered down piss. :p

As I've mentioned before, you haven't hardly tried any of the American beers I drink. Generally they are small companies that don't have flashy advertising campaigns.

There are a ton of good American beers. They just mostly happen to be small and lacking in far reaching distribution.

Not that hard at all. If there is a brew shop near by they can mill the grains for you and it only takes a week (if making an ale) to make to be ready to bottle and carbonate.

It does cost a bit to start up, however, but if you can get the shop to do the milling for you (at a price of course) and you already have a airtight container (one that allows carbon dioxide to escape without letting anything in) then all you really need is a keg and a carbonation tank.

The shops will try to sell you everything under the sun, you won't need it all, so be careful. As I say it isn't that hard to brew your own beer but the start up costs are a bit high, though it does usually pay for itself in the end, when you are only paying a 1/4 of the cost of a carton then going out and buying it.

While my batch first batch wasn't awful, I will admit I was doing it under the direction of a man who has been brewing beers for 30 years, there will be times when there are brews that don't are awful. Some will be drinkable (just) while others aren't good enough for the garden.

I do remember trying a friends one and it tasted like rotten bananas, so some will go off and have some funny tastes but if you can get a good recipe going and follow a general method than it will more than likely turn out good.

I always found that my favorite beer is more 'situational'--depends on the circumstance and location...for example:

After landing in a single prop plane on a dirt airstrip in Belize, narrowly avoiding a flock of birds...that ice cold Beliken was beautiful. A black and tan is always delicious in an Irish pub, a 0,5l Hacker Pschorr Lager or Koenig Ludwig Hefe Weizen is great after a hike in the Alps, Carta Blanca pulled out of an ice chest while fishing in Mexico is awesome, and even a Coors (not Light) goes well with mowing the lawn in the summer! Kirin Ishiban with sushi, Anchor Steam when visiting San Francisco, and the Pilsener (Ecuador) seemed to fit well with the bullfights during Fiestas de Quito. It just depends.

Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown ale, Steinlager, Spaten Marzen, Kloster Andechs Doppelbock, Augustiner Edelhell, Pilsner Urquell are all great brews too. Not too big a fan of lambics and krieks though...but they are really more of a beer cousin to me anyways.

And with the exception of dopplebocks and hefe/kristall weizen, beer on tap is almost always better than beer in a bottle/can.

Hmm. I'm over half Irish, so I feel like I have an obligation to like it/drink it lots... But so far I've struggled. Hopefully I come around to the taste.

Try Smithwicks. It's a good transition while you work your way up to Guinness. Not quite as chewy, and you can see through it, but it's a good Irish ale.
Anchor Steam is far and away my favorite. Other than that, I go for stouts, porters - anything that has to change color before I piss it out again.
