My bedroom.
er...two.
Damn you both.
Underwear and a shirt. Because I get sooo cold at night, even sleeping with someone. My favourite shirt to sleep in is yours.
*Takes pity* Depends on the time of year, winter sees me rather bundled up in sweats, socks, gloves, and a hat and in summer I'm in a pair of gym shorts and nothing else.
Fall and spring are either increasing or decreasing layers between the two.

I go with boxers usually. Sometimes breakaways or sweats. Really cold nights get a tshirt.
And I do have to say, a girl sleeping in my shirt, be it tshirt or hoodie, does make me happy.
My favorite hoodie still kinda smells like my female friend who had it for two years (I only recently got it back in a covert op involving a teddy bear kidnapping)

Yeah it's totally the smell. Also, wearing underwear to bed is nice because it's wicked feeling it being peeled off when you're not quite awake:D
I approve of this covert op. I got my Jimi Hendrix tye-died ratty shirt back from an ex by breaking into his house. I also took a pack of cigarettes and some beer. That'll learn him!

I only slept in thermals once, after a long day of snowboarding and a night of drinking. Well, that was more of passing out. It was too tight and restrictive for me to deal with.
I usually go with the flannel sheets and a nice down comforter if it gets that cold...lets me keep my gym shorts style

Damn...I knew Nagano got cold, but never realized that cold.
It's not so much the cold as the lack of both central heating and insulation in Japanese houses that makes life difficult. In mid-winter my house is, at night about 2 or 3 degrees warmer than the outside air so the fridge actually ends up as being the warmest spot in the house at night and finding ice caked an inch thick on INSIDE of the windows and doors is an everyday occurrence.

I've thought about it, but my wife and I like having air too much. Besides, our house is heated by kerosene stoves so we need to be able to air out the house from time to time (Which is also why we have no heat at night, too dangerous to run those stoves when you're asleep).

All the best gym short companies go out. I have one pair from some random local company that closed about 10 years ago. Love them and won't ever give them up.
the best were actually the gym shorts we had in high school. utterly awful as gym shorts, but quite excellent as boxers. a huge number of people used them as such, so that you'd regularly have people wearing 2 layers of gym shorts for gym class. shortly after i graduated the company they had been working with went out, and they changed to shorts much better at their intended purpose.

I usually wear socks and underwear. On really cold nights pyjama bottoms too. It seems to me that as long as my feet and legs are warm, I'm warm too.
Then again, in the summer when the heat is horrible (afternoon sun gets at my window  ), I tend to have nothing but a wet towel on me. As the water evaporates, it keeps me cool enough to get some sleep. :)

Beat up shirt that gives instructions on the back about how to make a shrunken head. Seriously. I would wear it around, but it has a rip in the front from a branch. So now it is my nightshirt. I also wear underwear in bed.
Of course if the ladyfriend is also in the bed, then both of us are wearing nothing. In fact, sometimes it gets rather too warm that way, with both of us in the bed and we have to remove the comforter and just use the sheet. Yet even then usually her feet are cold.

I was having a lot of trouble sleeping this deployment (largely due to the fucked up schedule my squadron keeps us on) so the squadron doc gave me Ambien and that puts me right out within 20 mins. Before I started taking that it took me 24-36 hours before I could fall asleep naturally.

What I do really isn't that stressful, I've only been shot at once this year and hardly noticed it due to how heavily armoured my vehicle is. My problem is that we spend 6 hours on the road, get to spend 6 hours back in Kuwait, 2 hours of mission prep time, 6 (or more, depending on if we get stuck at the border for an hour or two) more hours on the road, and then over 24 hours at our base in Iraq. That whole mess can vary by up to 6 hours either way, which doesn't exactly make for a regular sleep pattern.
And when we bitch about it our squadron says "Well, you get over 24 hours of rest in Iraq, what's the problem?". It wouldn't be a problem if we had one or two days off every couple of weeks, but the last four months it's worked out to be two days off per month.

I suppose there is a bit of stress, especially the last month and a half when I was acting platoon sergeant (a job 2 pay grades above my own) and my lieutenant is useless so I had to do his job as well. That was a bit stressful as I was dropped right into it with little notice and no preparation. Going from being responsible for 3 guys to 21 guys kinda sucks, especially when all but one of your subordinate sergeants technically outrank you (two of them have a pay grade on me, the other 2 just time in grade). However, my sleep problems started before that, mainly because I hadn't had a day off in two months

If only. I couldn't have gone without the GI Bill, but it doesn't pay for everything and when I enlisted it was an either/or thing on cash bonuses v. Army College Fund. Needless to say, silly 17 year old me took the cash bonus.Hm. I know the Air Force pays for everything, but that must be Air Force specific. OK.
I was offered scholarships to NROTC, as well as AROTC, but I declined both.

Perhaps you're boyish in appereance. Sometimes that happens, if you seem younger than what you really are. I sometimes am mistaken for a 20 year old. Of course, I'm petite, only 5'0.

You look older as a civilian. In uniform you look boyish.

If it's one of those American monstrosities, that is NOT a futon!
Pray tell NERVUN, what is a true futon (funny I thought it was spelt with a 'ph'). And what is an American monstrosity?
I am thinking of getting one my self now I have moved and in a larger room and will set up a little entertainment complex in it I want to have a couch as well which the futon does, what do people think of them? Are they good to sleep in? Anything to watch out for? etc.
But now to the question of the OP.
I usually sleep in boxers, sometimes it might be running shorts, and if I am drunk enough I will kick off my shoes and sleep with whatever I was wearing.
If I take a 'nana-nap' then I will just have my shoes off and sleep on the covers while I sleep.
I very rarely sleep naked, I just don't like it.

For now, I sleep alone in bed, but it often takes me an hour to drift off when I lay down. And when I wake up, I just lay there for another hour, unable to move from tiredness. On work days I force myself up, but that is always tricky.
Yeah same here, I just don't know how to stop it.
Well i'm in no military unit, I just tend to feel anxious a lot. And I often worry about silly things as I try to sleep.
Damn, mate same here in fact the past week has been a killer for me and then that starts to eat in to the rest of life also so that suffers as well.
I had a good talk to someone today about one of the main things worrying me and that helped a bit.
Hope those problems get worked out for you a bit.

The weapon you're using is some varient of the L85, which is standard issue for the British Army, not the U.S., yet the uniform is that of an American soldier.

I usually sleep in an undershirt and pajama pants, or just an undershirt and boxers if it's a little warmer. I've successfully mounted a fan next to me on my bed in the dorm, so it's never really too hot or too cold.

Exactly. It's an L22 used by the Royal Armoured Corps. We hung out with a platoon of Challengers on a mission to recover the pieces of a downed helicopter, the Brits were securing the site.

Those little plastic IR flags suck. They start peeling like that two days after you start wearing them. The flags are always backwards because they're meant to look as though they're being carried forward.
Also, I rarely wear my helmet, especially when I'm not likely to have things blow up at me.

I thought that was the reason. Still, I can be a bit of a stickler for flag etiquette and it kinda bugs me. Why not put it on the left arm? Then it could be both forwards and looking like it was being carried forward. I didn't know they were plastic stickers. I had always thought they were patches.
Ah, I didn't know if there were rules for the helmet thing or not.

It's put on the right because etiquette states that the US flag be on the right side of any procession. At least, that's what they tell us.
They're velcro backed, and they're plastic because they're highly reflective when looked at with IR devices for IFF purposes.
There are rules for when you should wear your helmet but I really don't care about them.
