I have to say, I'm quite surprised with the new avatars. Some of them reassured me (LG, CToaN) and others, well, I feel I don't know you at all. What do you do when someone really cool has a crappy avatar? Do you TG them one you think is better? Do you assume they have no taste? Neither of these sounded entertaining to me, so here goes.

My avatar, I feel, fits me perfectly.

The avatar itself is from the cover of the Bretonnia Army Book for the Warhammer Fantasy Battles game. It depicts a Bretonnian Knight battling hordes of enemies.

That fits me perfectly because:
1)I am a big 'knight' fan. I have a couple knights in my ancestry and I think they are an excellent symbol of good principles. (Idealized perhaps, but that's what symbols are.)
2)I feel like that in debates on forums sometimes... one guy against a horde. ;)
3)As a gamer, it's fitting to have such an avatar
4)As a Bretonnian player, it's fitting to have that avatar
5)The name of my nation says it best.
6)The Bretonnian faction in Warhammer is highly spiritual. It is the only army that can kneel in prayer at the outset of a battle in order to confer upon it special blessings.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that our avatars had to conform to your standards. I'm sure we'll all get messages informing us that we must care what you think.

As for mine, it's the WaRP logo, and ElfQuest is still my favorite graphic novel ever, despite the weak art in volumes 5 and 6 (which was rectified in 7 and 8). Plus, wolves are cool.

My avatar is actually quite simple, it's a symbol for chaos. There is no order without chaos, but interestingly enough there is also no chaos without order. It's a bit like one of those married couples that despite their incessant and perpetual bickering will never even consider divorce. Chaos is many things: its own worst enemy, the root of everything and a curse as well as a blessing.

That aside, I just discovered Firefly/Serenity for me. After I had finished writing my final 100-page exam paper I could take a weekend off and watch it all. What can I say? I'm hooked. Hence the pic and quote.

An avatar was a perfect opportunity to amuse people before I even say anything. It's a cheap easy way to get a smile. I had several runners up and if I had the power, I'd alternate between them with every post.

I've got this really close group of friends, we've all known each other for the last 5 years and we all use Live Journal which includes the use of a limited number of avatars. Anyway it's been discovered that we've all transfered each other's avatars into an onlie personification of each other which is amusing - however, this is mine (... goes and changes avatar...)

I'm a huge fan of MGS, especially Grey Fox, hence the avatar. I identify more with Fox than any other character of the series.

Mine is the symbol of the Michigan National Guard, my current employer. An explanation of the symbolism.

In "LaSalle and the Discovery of the Great West," Parkman describes in Chapter XI et seq., the building of the "Griffin" in 1679 in the calm waters above Niagara Falls. La Salle built the ship to carry his expedition and supplies through the Great Lakes and carved a griffin for its figurehead. He did this in honor of his patron, Count Frontenac; the griffin was a portion of the count's armorial bearings. This was the first whiteman's ship to navigate the great waters which enclose and are enclosed by Michigan. I've finally got an avatar. I'll probably get a better one at some point, but mah... it reflects what I do (and my work has pretty much become my life, ah the joys of academia).

That aside, I just discovered Firefly/Serenity for me. After I had finished writing my final 100-page exam paper I could take a weekend off and watch it all. What can I say? I'm hooked. Hence the pic and quote.

Anyway to my icon ... that one over there. Long story short, it is my college ring. Upon this side is engraved the motto of the school I attended, the coat of arms for the school and the most vile creation ever devised from that institution, the "Tute" screw. This marvel of engineering is unique in that no matter which way it is turned it only goes in deeper. Once applied it cannot be removed.

After several region hopps my nation has settled in the region of New York, which is the Real World state where Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute resides. So as a result it is appropriate to incorporate it into the history of the nation and the nation's leader, King Harold XVI.

An avatar was a perfect opportunity to amuse people before I even say anything. It's a cheap easy way to get a smile. I had several runners up and if I had the power, I'd alternate between them with every post.

4.0 sucks big time. D&D is a P&P RPG, not an MMO, and 4e seems to want to make the tabletop game into an MMO.
