What is nudity, NSG?
Let us start with the definition of the word ¨nudity¨, for starters.

Nudity is the state of wearing no clothing. According to Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nudity): Nudity also sometimes is used to refer to wearing significantly less clothing than expected by the conventions of a particular culture and situation, and in particular exposing the bare skin or intimate parts, and has analogous uses. In this sense it is related to the concept of modesty.

In a cultural context: what do you, according to the place from where you come from, do you consider nudity obscene, funny or a natural thing? Are you ok with nudity or do you shun it? What, according to your personal beliefs, is modesty and how does it apply to the state of nudity?

Neither do I. It´s a natural thing to me. But some people seem to think it´s obscene. I wonder why, hence, I posed those questions.

The last time I was nude, I ruined the potency of dozens of males who were on the beach and witnessed it. Their ego was shattered so badly by their inadequacy, they were unable to have sex anymore.

I attended, then worked at a summer camp in southern Vermont, there they practiced the "fifth freedom" which is the right to enjoy life sans artificial skin...I think the human body is beautiful, nudity is totally natural, in fact, I'm nude right now. If I could I would be nude all the time (except when I'm eating, that is just plain gross):)

Really? What a contrast, I usually get the pre-adolescent urge to giggle when I see nudity in *real* art. Which brings to mind a funny 'joke' I heard once: What's the difference between art, and pronography? It's art if it makes you giggle!

As a Christian, nudity can be both natural, and obscene, depending on contex. The human form is beautiful, with it's intricacies, and whatnot, improperly displayed, however, and it becomes obscene.

Nudist Colonies are... ambiguous to me. The idea seems near-utopian, as it seems to remove the lust from a given society... but how can one know for sure? How do I know that all nudist colonies aren't just giant orgy-fests? (kidding, I'm pretty sure they're not).

My answer: Nudity is not as bad, or scandalous as American culture makes it, but in the wrong context, I feel it can bleed over into the obscene.

Jell-o is an interesting substance. It's originally a liquid, but you put it in the refrigerator, and it turns into a solid. If you take it out of the refrigerator, it does not turn back into a liquid.

It's probably irrational, they just seem gross to me, like meat. Meat looks gross to me, too. Human bodies just always look kind of awkward to me. I don't know. My own body looks gross to me, too. And it feels like meat, too, sometimes, especially when it's sunburned, which happened yesterday, so I'll be stuck feeling like I've been cooked for another couple of weeks I guess. :(

It depends, of course, on the context.

With trusted loved ones, or a place where it is appropriate (as in a nude beach), it's natural.

When someone streaks across a football/soccer field, it's hilarious.

When someone does it to embarrass/humiliate others or get their kicks from acting inappropriately in public (ie masturbating on public transport, trying to get a kid to join them/touch them) it's obscene.

I think it's perfectly natural for people to be nude. We're born nude, we die nude (hopefully). Why shouldn't we live nude?

Depends on the person and the context. For example: an attractive female of my age that's nude and in my room is very nice.

On the other hand, a fat whale of a person wearing a thong on the beach or no clothing at all is a security risk and a threat to public safety. I agree with Dave Barry on this one, believing that the U.S. Coastguard could help out a little by patrolling the public's beaches and when they see a whale, "Greenpeace be Damned, harpoons should be employed!"

Nudity in public= obscene or fine, depending on what reason the person is nude for. If they are nude, because its comfortable and such, then its okay. If the person is nude because it turns them or other people on, or they want shock value, then it becomes obscene.

In my culture, nudity is mostly obscene, and in some cases funny. In my personal opinion, nudity can be obscene, funny, both, or neither depending on the context and how it's presented. It can be beautiful or disgusting, depending on who is being nude.

However, I don't consider it natural.

Of course it is natural in the biological sense, but humans have worn some form of protective clothing in most cultures since prehistoric times, and in many places, people couldn't even survive without it.

My logic is that if it significantly increases the risk of nature hurting or killing me, it's not natural. If it's winter, I can freeze to death without clothes. If it's summer, I can get sunburns. We have simply grown out of natural nudity and into a stage where needing and using protective clothing has become natural.

Nudity can be very nice and comfortable in a controlled or friendly environment, but those are often exceptions rather than the norm.

While nudity is natural I think that since we have made it immoral we should at least have the decency to follow our own rules. These days nudity is no longer considered natural and has been used for sexual reasons rather then to just be free. Therefore I think that people should be clothed when they are in public no matter what their reason for nudity. Unless you are at a specific place for nudity it's best to just remain clothed and be respectful of other peoples wishs on this matter who also have the right to not see you nude.

Ah. What I meant was that my environment rarely remains comfortable for long enough to stay naked for a good long time. I don't use artificial heating unless it's down around freezing, so going naked in the winter would be out. In the summertime, at the beach or in the garden, yes for a few hours ... but usually I want to use hand-tools, paint or whatever that requires some protection.

Then there's things like going out to the mail-box that require kitting-up. The pleasure of going naked isn't enough for me to make the hassle worthwhile, generally. So I just enjoy it occasionally: when it's so hot that I need the exposure, mostly.
