He will be sorely missed.

DC first appeared as Joey P back in August of ’04. Here are his various nations and post counts:

For a total of about (ignoring other brief nations such as temporary_nations) 28, 045 posts during his long stay here.

But a high post count isn’t really what makes DC stick in our minds. It’s all the wacky news stories he dug up. The first experience I had with DC was when he spammed one of my first threads with dead baby jokes. Okay, that was pretty bad. Freaked me right out and almost convinced me to leave NSG alone. Now I realize he was only trying to save me from myself :D Hmmm, he was also fond of jumping into threads about feminism with comments like, “now go get me a sandwich”. Oh it used to piss me off, until I figured out that he just liked that sort of reaction.

Wow, digging back through old posts, and I ran across this bizarre dream (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8336728&postcount=1) I had about some NSers…DC among them.

My favourite experience with DC was when he told me he was Jesussaves. I’d been fighting with his troll, and he was worried I’d get banned over it. His troll inspired me to create the short-lived HerPower. At one point, we were going to have them fall in love…I dare say it would have been the greatest love story of all time!

So...goodbye DC. NS isn't going to be quite the same without you.

I'll miss him for plenty of reasons.
I could always count on him for his ability to find weird and argument-worthy posts and topics, ad his ability to outpace anyone else that wanted that particular niche on NS.
I always appreciated his "work" (yes, work) with JesusSaves, and i rarely found fault (or myself at odds) with his posts or posting nature, even as abrasive and confrontational as i am at times.
Actually one of the only people on here whom i seriously considered the RL persuasion for, in case one day we met up sometime and knocked a few back over stuff.

I can't say a bad word about the guy. He will be sorely missed, of course.

An exceptionally incredible memory I had was of course, the combined awesome of HerPower and Jesussaves. What an incredible couple of weeks, those were.

it was my opinion I was less rude than the others ones..

So I did something stupid.. (peoples dont do this its not good)

weeks later a mod explained me that the word fucker was not acceptable.
he gave me an ultimatum to change the word.

I agree with his stance on censorship and limiting access to things just because some people can't be troubled to monitor their own children, but wishing that kind of consequence on people, even willfully stupid people, is unacceptable.

Pity, I thought, and still think, that he's amusing and, occasionally, intelligent.

I don't know how old he is, but maybe he just needs a little more opportunity to grow up.

Though I do respect him for not hiding his prejudices like a lot of people--OcceanDrive, Ny Nordland, the various people behind Deep Eve Remote Kinchi Observer Online all come to mind--I found his actual opinions no less disgusting. Though I do despise all forms of censorship when it comes to the public domain and the private life of an individual, in a place like this which is privately own, you have to obey the rules, so, while I might not necessarily agree with all mod decisions, this is one I agree with most certainly.

He's my age, 32. Unless he recently had a birthday. Although I haven't been around as often the past few weeks. When I did stop in I noticed in some posts he was a being a bit harsh. I hate he's banned. I liked him. If I was sloshed, I'm sure I'd boohoo a little just for the simple fact of having been around him here for so long. Goes for any poster.. fellow gamer etc. that a lot of internet time is spent around I suppose. I never TG people, and rarely have dialog in the threads (unless I'm 3 sheets to the wind... and then I'm usually being aggressive, 'out there' or a butt). But I still miss the folk I'm familiar with, when they go.

I found him an average poster, a bit full of himself sometimes but usually light-hearted. Assuming his posts were jokes and then going looking for a point usually seemed to work for me.
He started some great threads, and someone has to take up the slack there.

Considering I took the assumption of most of his posts being sarcastic, I found many of them quite funny. His weird news story threads will be missed especially.

I won't miss him. In fact, had this happened during the week, it's unlikely I'd have noticed he'd gone (unless I'd seen this thread). I generally didn't post in the same threads as him. As I said in Moderation - an active member might have left, but the forum will survive.

I remember the first incarnation; the terrible dead baby jokes. Tasteless, so tasteless. I hated them so much. I can't believe the mods gave him so many fucking chances. He blew every chance; they were far too lenient on him, especially after the puppet incident with Jesussaves.

While I have zero problem with his level honesty, it often struck me as quite provocative, as if he was taking whatever he believed and twisted it to be more extreme than that it was. I often got the feeling he wanted to provoke people by making such statements, which I didn't.

The mods were far too generous with him on many occasions. He should have been DoS sooner but... meh. Better later than never. If he couldn't learn to play within the rules while still being honest, he reaps the fruits of his actions.

Because unlike people like DCD, we understand the benefits of civility. It's one thing when people insult each other jokingly, as Fass and Neesika do with each other. It's another thing when a person truly means it, and we'd end up meaning it if we said it to him directly.

Besides, I'm too much of a nice guy to hate him anyway. I don't hate him: I disliked his actions and views, and I felt he should be banned for his rule-breaking, but I do not hate him.

Even so, his opinions and views were, to my eyes, quite disgusting and I will never miss them, tongue-in-cheek or no.

Well that certainly sucks. Less than a year into playing this game, I joined the region of Adelaide which over the years has contained several regular general forumites. At various times, members have disappeared for various reasons and the region had to be re-founded on more than one occasion. One of these founder deaths led to the region being region crashed, causing the remaining few regulars to depart for Adelaide Resort, where I still am. I'm not sure why they bothered taking our region as we simply left because Adelaide was barely a shadow of its former self. DC has simply joined the extended list of regional generalites who have gone, which is part of the reason I rarely post anymore. I may be looking for a new region. Maybe.

They seemed to be mostly from local US newspaper websites, and occasionally from sites like the Metro (they have a weird news section, after all).

I see, well in any case i've let the mods know how fustrated I am at that ruling in the mod forum.

Well, as much as I enjoyed the gems of newsbites he came up with, he kinda deserved what he got.

He had a final warning, he said the wrong thing, got hisself booted. It's a pity, and yes, maybe it was unfair, but the mods have to uphold the rules, and we should really respect their decision.

DCD was one of the few assholes in the world that I actually like. He was always brutally honest, and never had a problem with letting one know that they were a dumb ass. Although I couldn't agree with many things that he believed, I still have great respect(if you can do that online) for the man.

I've never had the unfortunate experience of being on the receiving end of the mods displeasure so I suppose it is hard for me to feel real oppressed by the rules when i'm looking in from the outside. The punishment was harsh but it isn't as if we can do anything about it given the mods stance on appeals, we can only move on and hope we get someone like him again in the future.

I was really sad when I heard he was being deleted. I always enjoyed reading the various randomness which he produced. He will be missed.

I guess one day, when all the mods are gone and new mods have inherited the forum he may return. But he probably won't care then.

It's always hard when a colorful individual gets the boot.

DcD liked to push it. At times it made for interesting reading. he did liven the place up at times. Other times, meh.

Frick he must have enjoyed that! He was damn good at it too. It took me a while to realise he was doing it expressly to piss me off. I remember being so shocked, debating with him in other threads, that we actually agreed on a LOT more than I'd ever expected.

With enough things we disagreed on to keep it interesting.

I'm sorry to hear about DCD - I'll miss him and his great sense of humor and hope that his return is overlooked by the Mods.

DCD's blatant honesty and refusal to cushion his words taught me a lot about argumentation and being strong in the face of a hostile frame. That, and Jesussaves is what got me really involved in NSG.

Nah. Typically the mods do DoSs before IP bans. October3, for example, came back about 10 times after the DoS was issued.

I will miss DCD, he was one of the reasons I like the NSG. With his irreverent humor, strange thread topics and an uncanny ability to knock the wind out of some self-rightous windbag, he made NSG a little more interesting.

Here's a thought. How come Zilam didn't report DC whenever HE made threads of the likes of mine? :confused: Technically by his interpretation rules he should have been penalized earlier, or is it just the usual bias and favoritism? :confused:
