I love British music generally. Britpop is great. WHY did you guys have to send those.. well.... monkeys to represent you?.

dont you understand...the fact that it was so bad is the whole point of our entry...nobody takes the eurovision seriously in the UK...terry wogan the commentator takes the piss all the way through...its our tradition...we laugh at what those funny foreign people class as music...and we try to join in by sending the most awful bands to compete...the bands are selected by tv national vote and everyone picks the worst...its as simple as that

Terry Wogan is funny. Claiming to send in a crap band because you don't take the contest seriously, and then proceeding to watch it en-masse is just sad. :D

As a fan of opera.

Opera sucks (subjectively, from my perspective)! :p

Oh, shut up. The Western European songs sucked ass and none of them deserved to get higher than they got

Which I said.

Serbia is a very deserving winner, and its geographical and political situation had nothing to do with it; they've consistently placed well and they got high scores across the board, not to mention of course that the song is beautiful and sung very competently.

Of course it's political, just look at how the countries vote. Serbia had a good song but look at the complete voting.

I've made a suggestion for a winning song; now I'll make a suggestion to stem the tide of voting blocks. Again, however, I don't seriously intend this to be taken, since dodgy voting is kinda part and parcel of the whole thing anyway.

The answer is to restrict the flow of information and ensure that bands enter their songs without making public which song is which country until after the votes have been registered. That way, no-one will know who sang what when it comes to vote. :)

We can let the same artist perform the same song for every country and then see who will win. That might actually brake the myth that this is a song contest.

Personally speaking, I'd rather have seen Bulgaria winning. Their video, for a novie band, as well as the tempo and beat, just catches far more attention than... some of the stuff sent in. Eheh.

Britain should send Borat, he would be one of the favorites. Actually, every country should follow Ukraines concept and send a comedian.

I loved what Terry Wogan said when Andorra didn't give Spain any points:

I love that man.

nah. The best solution is to abolish country-by country voting. Or have it done by an at least semi-competent jury.

Fucking disgraceful. The Irish and Maltese should be shot. There was absolutely no way our song deserved anything. I'm embarrassed about it, seriously.

Serbia's song was ok. Certainly not the best. The three I'd most liked to have seen win, in order, were Romania, Ukraine and Finland. In fact, all the music by Finnish bands last night were pretty cool. Lordi...whatever the name of their entry was...and Apocalyptica. So cool.

Oh, how very dare you! The French one was cool, and I even liked the Swedish one!

Not to mention that I wished for high places for both Ukraine and Russia! This year was very kind on my sympathies, so yay! :)
I've gotten severe symbolical beatings from my flatmates for it, but I like dthe Ukranian one as well, and the Russina one got our collective agreement. Now if only the Romanian entry had scored higher, I'd have been reasonably happy, too.

It wasn't interesting in the least; it was a typical "kisspaus"-song as we say. "Kisspaus" = "pee break."
Yay! Wonderful new vocab for me! *notes down*

In my opinion, both Finland and Germany deserved to score higher [..] I dunno.. the German guy was cute AND could sort of sing.
I'm not the patriotic kind, but I have to admit I'd have placed Roger Cicero (he should get points for the name alone! (mind that Roger is pronounced more similar to "Rocher" than to, well, your Anglophone Roger)) higher than this. But I do think it was rather a folly to sing this song that depended so much on the lyrics in German in a contest like this... (and I'll repeat what our commentator said: "It's quite the irony that he, at least, seems to have goten it right.. Women Rule The World, eh?" (that was his song's title))

I wonder how long it will be before the Western European nations pull out because of the Eastern voting blocks.

It's always been like that. It's been the only reason our pisspoor UK entries have had any success for years.

It would look a bit like sour grapes if we decided this late in the game, that we don't like voting for your buddies...

Another flatmate suggested the same, but I think that goes against the spirit of the whole thing. Can as well call it "European Idol", then..

Well, there used to be judges, so I can't see that it would crash completely with the spirit... But I don't know. We'll see if they change anything ;)

The French one was cool, and I even liked the Swedish one!

The French was very meh, and I never liked the Swedish one. I rooted for Måns Zelmerlöw in the Swedish final (http://youtube.com/watch?v=2q-HLOQRpv4) (unbelievably cute, and the song is typically Swedish and I don't know why we should send anything else). The Ark won just because of their former successes.

I've gotten severe symbolical beatings from my flatmates for it, but I like dthe Ukranian one as well, and the Russina one got our collective agreement. Now if only the Romanian entry had scored higher, I'd have been reasonably happy, too.

The French entry was pretty cute. Not the best Eurovision entry ever. Not even the best this year, but kind of amusing, kind of tongue-in-cheek, and not outrageously bad like certain entries from certain small western european nations that might have once maintained certain global empires.

The only entry I really thought was outstanding... the only thing I would really willingly listen to outside of the confines of Eurovision... was the Bulgarian entry. Viewed within the confines of Eurovision, the French attempt was not so bad.

No no no, didn't you know that Europe is united now? Blocs doesn't exist any more, we're a big happy family! We only go by quality when we vote nowadays.

They were funny, I voted for them. I would rather see a comedian win than Serbia.

Serbia's entry is terrible, but does not mean Ukraine's is not.

nah, we still have Scandinavian Countries voting for other scandinavian countries, greece and cyprus still echange 12 points, Turkish ex-pats voting for Turkey now matter how crappy turkey's song is, Eastern European countries voting for russia, etc.

Of course. The British entry only sucked because you're the only ones who've seen through the fact that Eurovision is pure camp and wanted no part of it. The only ones! No part, I say! *pats*

The saddest thing of all is that the UK entry was selected in a televised phone vote, meaning a majority of the people watching thought it was the best song.

Does that say bad things about their taste, or about the quality of the alternatives?

The only ironic thing here is that you don't know what "ironic" means.

The word you should have used is "sarcastic", which by the way you were poorly.

Not quite. It means that the majority of those people who watched and and who thought that at least one act was worth voting for thought it was the best song.
Those people whowere horrified by the whole lot, or who thought the ESC wasn't worth the effort of televoting either way didn't figure in. There's hope for humanity, even the UK.. ;P

Hooray for SBS!

I wonder why they stopped showing a lot of the softcore movies they had?

The main problem is eastern Europe! They all like shite folk tunes, so thats what's going to win from now on.

You know what that means don't you?

We must invade Poland!

Who the fuck cares about which word I should have used in a semi-serious thread? You probably don't but you couldn't resist the chance to act like a language fascist. You probably like to feel superior to others.

And no, I don't know what irony is. First time I heard the word was from you. Thanks for teaching me it!

EDITX2: I would never use the word sarcasm there.

Yeah... You Australians may play the strong one now, but you won't manage to do anything on your own. And no country in western Europe will keep in shape to form any offensive with all of their plumbing leaking! All fear the wrath of Polish Plumber! Next what we're gonna send to Britain is the colonial government! Mwahahaha!!!1!!1one! :mp5: :sniper: :gundge:

:D

By the way, I was looking for anyone representing Poland on that pic - and then I found a guy holding some tools and pipes ;)

Sov: Since they were in the EBU (european broadcsting union).

Vesp: The real question is whether the polish plumbers have rid themselves of the 'tradie crack'. If they have then they will be welcomed by all and if it has gotten worse a grave threat to humanity.

Don't worry; I'll be fine as long as I don't have to do it, and nobody's doing it to me. Why, yes, I wasn't even in school in the early nineties.. so the only 8mm films of me have me being around 2-ish to 4-ish *nods*

Aah, if you've never had your data massaged, you really don't know what you are missing. Er... or something. I don't know. :)Mental note: perving over SoWiBi must exclude video footage. I guess I'll have to settle for the pictures, then.
