Well, not entirely. I did see a documentary recently about a few Israelis who refused to do military service in the West Bank and Gaza because it was against their conscience to do the things Israelis do daily there. I can have at least some respect for those jews.

As I understand it, there is a growing population of Israeli youth who doesn't care at all for the governments foreign policy. It seems we will just have to wait a couple of decades to let a new generation come into power. I just hope it will not be too late to change anything by the time this occurs.

although honestly the Mig 29 isn't really as good as our newest F-15's. It's what they carry IN the bird that counts, these days. Not the bird.

I am a cajun from South Louisiana. If I were a cowboy I would be from texas or west of the sabine river, and an asshat. Instead I am a a pretty liberal person. My first girlfirend was black (in third grade) and my wife is jewish decent.

I have a great idea.

Take some of the decommissioned nuclear weapons from the US and former USSR arsenals, and recommission them.

Give them to each Arab state, and if possible, to each religious or political group within the Arab world.

And include Iran, since they're not Arabs, but want some toys, too.

Sit back, and watch them annihilate each other. Paranoia will set in with a vengeance, if history is any indicator.

The first point isn't true. The US has really done away with teaching ACM in favor of BVR engagements. The Israelis train their own pilots based on their own doctrine.

Israel is trained for BVR too and has the capability to engage in BVR. They are just not going to rely on missiles and technology only.

The US did this during Vietnam when they made the idiotic move of removing the 20 mm cannon from F-4s. Israel kept the cannons and found they got a ton of kills with them as the missiles of the time often failed.

Now today's AMRAAMs don't fail that often, but it's still good to teach your pilots ACM.

BTW, the MiG still has our planes beat in some performance characteristics. In ACM, the pilot is what wins it. In BVR, it's the best missile and AWACs.

I understand where Rooseveldt is coming from on the idea that Muslim's face a lot of antiwestern proterrorism propaganda, especially when you read in the papers of mosques that have been closed down for such acts. It's also agreed that while the majority of Muslims are not terrorists, the majority of terrorists are Muslim. So take it with a grain of salt when people are suspicious of Muslims, it's not like the Muslim terrorists go around with signs saying they're bad Muslims.

Out of curiousity I did a little research on the whole virgins thing bit of contradictions going around there, fairly common in Islam, but while it isn't in the Qur'an it is part of the hadith 'The smallest reward for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are eighty thousand servants and seventy two wives' from further reading the "wives" are generally agreed to be houri perfect denizens of heaven who are eternally virgin. The tricky thing about the Hadith is that unlike the Qur'an only certain ones are agreed to be legit this is where the sects come in as each one has a different list.

Now the suicide bombers believe they're getting into heaven because they don't consider themselves as suicides, they're martyring themselves for the greater good. It's a nice little bit of technicality that I can appreciate as an evil bastard myself, the whole Hadith thing seeming to not be widely known among the general non muslim population allows for coverups too. So yes suicide bombers call themselves martyrs and may well believe they have 72 virgins waiting for them when they get where they're going. But on the plus side for you and me Rooseveldt, as Sloviestan has said before Islam has allowance for reaching heaven and not being Islamic, so we don't even need to convert to that interpretation and blow ourselves up to get us some virgins ;) or borrow his :p

Erm, I don't want to get in a fight here so let me clarify some of what I was saying: We do indeed still train Israeli Pilots in both ACM (Aireal Combat Manuever) and BVR (beyond visual range) And we still train a great deal in ACM, although we still plan to knock as many down with BVM as we can, in the hopes that we never get TO ACM. If you think I am wrong, look up Red Flag> It is a direct result of all those crap misisons with crap gear in Vietnam.
Also, the Israelis are still getting our best gear for BVR work. THe arabs are not. THis means before the Arabs ever get TO the Israelis for ACM, they are likely so depleted in numbers that they will get thumped by equal pilots and manueverability...
