I'll buy that. Most of my old girlfriends names fall into that catagory and we were born in early-mid 70's. Melissa, Kim, Michelle, Maria and Tracy spot on. And another of those is my neices name who is 2 months younger than me. I'm suprised Karen wasn't on the list tho, seemed pretty popular (at least around here) during that time.

Btw, how does one pronounce Maayan?I favour Robby - I can imagine you with a little wagon that way.
Interesting question - it gets mangled most of the time. Ma'ayan is perhaps a better representation. It's three syllables, but the first two get a little blended. Not my-ANN, and not MY-in, but rather Ma-ah-YUN.

Nah. I like being unique, and I quite like my name as well. It's pretty. :)
(Seriously, though, it honestly would be very unwise of me to reveal it, since it's possible to find an awful lot of information about me by Googling just my first name. One just has to get past all the websites that have nothing to do with human beings, and then there I am.)

I think it is very unwise of pretty much everyone to reveal such things in a setting like this one. Not wanting to scare anyone, but with the right interest and perseverance that some people have, they can find, gather, and put together a lot more information than you ever thought you had given out- and I would not exactly consider NSG to be the place with the lowest freak rate in the universe.

Greater Wellington Region, Well, a few postal codes out. 20-30K's away from Wellington Proper
Yes, Sounds like a great plan!
You just edited that, didn't you?
20-30K's outside of Wellington is a very fine place.;)

Yeah, I noticed that just before you posted.
Indeed. It's also substantially more common than "Maayan."
I have the same first name as a right-wing pundit and a bloodthirsty prophet... it depresses me some days.
He wasn't bloodthirsty - he was just a slacker.

Edited because I decided it was a little too specific, All I'll say, is I live in an area named after a tree native to NZ ;) Very green, too many churches.

Not even that necessarily. He likely had good reasons to dislike Assyria, especially if God had revealed the future to him.
But I'm not referring to his reluctance to go to Ninevah in the first place, but rather to his disappointment that God didn't smash the place.

Jonah merely didn't want to do all that work - you know, teaching people the errors of their ways and so on. The smashing was just a way to get out of it. A noble example for all of us who have exams and papers due. Though university administrations dole out smitings almost as bad as god's so I dunno.

One womens prison, 20 churces, One Mental Hospital, with a retirement village and a large mall, That would be the area I live in.
For first name's I'm known as many other things (By which I mean I'm actually known by them) Including, but not limited to:
Johnathan, Johnjamin, Johnty, Jagger, Jagged, Jaggy, AJ, Andrew, Sarah, Geoff.

Florian.
Yeah, it sucks having a name no English person can get right. Instant conversation starter. Pity that the conversation annoys the living shit out of me.
These days it's become "Flozza", which is great. Bogans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogan) love it.

I love unusual or obscurely referenced names (IDC if it's a common name in your native tongue :P)
Could you please please pretty please write that pheonetically (Why is that word not more pheonetic)
My middle name is Fianna. Great name for a male.

Hmm, I don't actually read or write all these funny symbols. Talk about an education.
It sounds a bit like "flow-ree-uhn", except that the "r" is pronounced the German way, further back in the throat rather than with the tongue.

Long story, but with my hair and facial features I can get away with it. As long as I've shaved recently (People have mistaken me for an underdevloped female). Plus I have an arse to DIE for.
Edit: And as that man in the carpark said "Come-to-bed eyes"

You try and educate English speakers to pronounce your 'R' correctly? Ahaha. I gave that up two weeks into my stay in an Anglo-Saxon country and never tried again.
