This thread is so we can debate about this sort of satanism, and whether it deserves the bad press it gets, whether it makes any sense ect.

I cannot condone Satanism, simply because of the I'm-going-to-be-selfish ideology that comes along with its rebellion. It seems to me to be irresponsible. But if that's your choice, then good luck. Many people will probably condemn you for it.

On a related note, Anton LaVey described his Church of Satan as, "just Ayn Rand's philosophy with ceremony and ritual added." :rolleyes:

It's nice that you're nice. Makes the rest of our lives easier, more pleasant. Don't expect to get into Heaven by virtue alone, however. Christ states, pretty explicitly, that he is "the way, the light and the Truth." Accept him, place your faith in Him, and follow His ways, and you're golden. So long as you maintain belief in pagan deities, you aren't getting "saved."

satanism is not at all unlike feminism in that it is one of the most poorly named ideaologies one can find. It has little if anything to do with it's name, and what few links one can relate are both esoteric and vague, and often completely irrelevant. The only real difference between the two is that feminists are usually sincere.

I'm not a Satanist, but hey, whatever floats your boat. I find the self-centeredness of the belief system not to be my cup of tea, although I don't immediately think that someone following it is evil. I also think that LaVey was looking for bad press and being provocative by choosing to name it as he did, in order to get more people talking about it. Bad publicity is still publicity and all that, and those who would be curious enough to look past the press or those who sought it out because of the press would be those who would truly be interested in it.

Read some Nietzsche. There is hardly any difference between LaVey and said philosopher. In fact, Satanism is just a skewed interpretation of the Ubermensch and slave and master morality. You're not being rebellious by any stretch of the imagination, and rendering yourself in antithesis to the masses is an obstacle to self-realization, as it is a reactive tendency rather than a proactive one.
