Well, your University's mascot is "the cornhuskers"...

But yeah, every state has stereotypes. Just California gets a lot of hatred basically because it's got the most people, so it's a very visible target. I mean, when was the last time you heard someone say, in all seriousness "Oh man, I really really can't stand Delaware!"

Not MY university I'm in Omaha, thats Lincoln's University and like I said the rest of the state is a bunch of hicks so thats no suprise:D

As for Delaware I think most people forget that they exist, i know I have before;)

Who's with me? Most of the other states just live off of what we produce anyway. New York shoudl consider it, too.

In fact, the whole "left coast" should seceed. Also, New England should seceed. Then we can have a free trade agreement and diplomatic ties. As for all those stupid people in the Red States in the middle, we'll just look down when we fly over.

Well, my apologies. It's just that the huskers are the ones the media seems to like.

See? Hardly anybody hates Delaware. Not a big target, you know?

Yeah, its because UNO's football team is not in the same league, in every sense of the word. Also no need to apologise I'm just reveling in how fun these little pointless compitions between cities and states that people can get in to, I was teasing back in forth with a person from Lincoln on this earlier today, its good to treat things like a joke for awhile.

And with that I really ought to crash i've been up for 22 hours for no real reason and need to get up for class tomarrow.

I already stated on this thread that I thought secession was a stupid idea, in fact, that was my first post on it. Since then, though, I've been defending my home state from everybody's insults.

I haven't insulted California...I just said Wisconsin has better cheese. :p

LA hijacked the colorado river, yes. If you haven't already noticed, I don't care for that particular city much.

Most of the water here comes from Sierra snow melt. Not the great lakes.

As far as I know, no water from the Great Lakes goes to California at this point...not because California doesn't want it, but because all eight Great Lakes state governors would have to agree on which lake, how much, how to transport, etc, etc.

Have you ever BEEN to Colorado? Seriously--I'm curious. I have been to California and to the East Coast--I can compare the two without hesitation. Colorado wins, on almost every count (more wacko evangelicals in Colorado Springs than there should be, but hey, Berkeley beats Boulder at the dirty hippie liberal contest, so we're even).

If you have, please identify what makes Colorado, as you say, "suck." I would like to know your opinion.

Any diversion from the Great Lakes would be political suicide for a Michigan governor, regardless of party. In fact, I'm certain they'd be immediately recalled.

I don't know why people use the term, it's easier just to type ca, which is the official abbreviation.

And yes, we do. We are a donor state. Most jesusland states are benifciary states.

And where do we get our alcohol from? California produces most of the US's wine, smartass.

to be fair, almost every state has such names...

ever wonder how many times I hear "gee do we still live in grass shacks?" or "wow... must be nice to do nothing but surf all day." and the ever popular "so where do I change my money to Hawaiian money" (and no, that is not a joke... I hear that alot from alot of tourists in Waikiki.... one of the reasons why I avoid that place like the plague!)

and the... errr.. steriotyping of other states...

then there are the states that seem almost... "gee... who?"

Well it's not all stereotyping.

One of my in laws is a printing press Engineer. He gets called all over the place to fix them.

He went to Hawaii to work on one. He needed something and noticed almost everybody in the building was gone. He found a receptionist and asked where did everybody go. She said the surf was up! :D

Sure we are. Not only as evidenced by the fact that we overwhelmingly voted against Buah in both elections, but also because, according to the Education Foundation of America we have a higher level of educatsion than any state in teh south or midwest, according to the Financial Information Administration we make more money and according to the Bureau of Penile information we have much larger penises even than Texans. :)

We also have less sex with our relatives, marry our cousins less often and have less sex with farm animals.

Will three-fourths of states (that is to say, 38 of them) agree that non-native Americans should be allowed to run for President? No. Why? Because you'll NEVER get 38 states to agree on ANYTHING, let alone two-thirds of both houses of Congress.

I actually think we should allow people not born in the U.S. to run for president, but they should be a U.S. citizen and been living in the United States for a certain number of years, without leaving the U.S. for more than one (or two) year at a time.

BS california schools are horrible. According to PacificResearch.org California scores lower on the SAT verbal section than national average, therefore you stated blatant falses. SAT scores dont satisfy you? Well not only does California has a worrisome dropout rate, but is in the bottom 1/3 of all states when it comes to math and science funding (Inside Bay Area.com)
And the rest of the shit you spewed was nothing more than steorytopical statements, not even to be considered in an eligtened discussion. Must be all that shitty education over there. Links:

We do, as long as they are born to U.S. citizens. According to the Naturalization Act of 1790, ". . . the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond the sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens."

We just don't allow naturalized citizens to run -- although they should be able to.

I didn't say we had a better education system. I said our citizens have a higher level of education and that our penises are bigger. See, people who get a good education in other states move here to go to CIT, UCLA or whatever or, after they graduated from harvard they move to Pacific Palisades.

Also, our chicks are hotter because hot chicks born in other states move here to be an actress or to do porn.

That's primarily because we have a lot of non english speaking students, and also note that California's SAT scores are below the national average, not the average of the southern states.

I say we succeed... the rest of the West Coast can come too... and maybe some of the East Coast. I would also be in favor of giving Texas back to Mexico.

You Wisconsinites are going to have to suck on it because California will soon be the biggest cheese producer (http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/local/index.php?ntid=101959&ntpid=2) in the Nation we already took 1 milk producer 10 years ago.

Ooo... Cheese.

Two things for the record. The first being this: Our country(the whole thing) is a failure when it comes to cheese. We don't make good cheese. Second thing, when I do eat cheese from our country I will continue to eat local cheese, so Cali and Wisconson can both save their breath.

Non english speaking students will not likely take the SAT, because if you are in an ESL program chances at college are slim. Also Texas has better SAT scores than you. So I don't know how you guys get to come off making unjustified statements (I have yet to have a source from any of you that I can go and look at)

You stated that we'd have no alcohol if California seceded. I presented a fact that contradicted that statement. You lose.

As I've said before, seceding would be stupid.

It's been tried once (not by California, but still), and we all know what happened. Very bad times.

Instead of seceding, I think certain states should be kicked out.

California remained the top exporting State in fiscal 2005, far surpassing all others; its $10.2 billion of agricultural exports is up 7 percent, or $680 million, from 2004. California accounts for 16 percent of the total value of all U.S. agricultural exports. The State leads the country in exports of vegetables and preparations, fruits and preparations, tree nuts, dairy products, planting seeds, and “other products.” California’s exports of each of these commodities are 2-3 times higher than the next closest State.

Dallas and Fort Worh are 30-40 miles appart from each other. The grouping is because of the airport (DFW). Also the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers are somewhere between the two. However they are both very different from each other. And yes Austin is a very nice place. It is pretty close to San Antonio as well, about an hour, so if you stopped at one I would advise you to check out the other.

Sure. Then we can all starve together - except for those "stupid people in the Red States."

What makes you think we'd starve?

Conservative politics and economic theory which would hold sway in the agricultural centers of the red states would make it so that the blue states could buy up their produce at pretty low prices and live quite happily on them. If you don't sell to us at good prices (even though a lot of it is done by English companies that would still sell to us for nice prices) we'd just provide the agro-tech to Mexico so that we could buy from them.

Unfortunately for you, the right of secession was revoked by the government after the federalists won the Civil War. If you attempted to secede now, you would be destroyed and forced back into the union in one swift stroke of war.

If you attempted to secede now, you would be destroyed ...

(Nevermind that the topic in question is entirely absurd to begin with, but...) Probably not. Last I heard California was ranked somewhere around 8th in the world in terms of economics. For the "Union" to go in guns blazing to bring those damn liberal hippy rebels back would be a very bad choice; once it was done "destroying" California, the (single) strongest part of the United States economy would be ruined. The "Union" might as well drop a nuke on itself, because that would basically be the effective result. Remember, the "Union" did what it did in the 1860s because the "Union" was the economic powerhouse capable of overwhelming the South. In that case, destroying the South wasn't tantamount to committing suicide.

But anyway, California is still an agriculture state, and the poor miserable farmers and such are addicted to the federal welfare teat to such an extent that this entire topic is just silly. Secede from that porker? Not in a million years.

You know it's been over 140 years, right? A lot has changed.

Either way, the right to secession wasn't "revoked" because you can't revoke a natural human right.

I'm all for California seceding, since I'm moving to Colorado and will no longer be subject to the nonsense that passes for government in this state. (I'm sure that many of you will be anxious to point out that other states are nonsensical, too, but California nonsense is just too much to be borne).

Yes. Yes, it unfortunately was. While secession is legal under the Tenth Amendment, the Supreme Court has decided that secession is not covered as a natural right of the American citizens (another decision I don't agree with; the South was within their full rights to leave the Union at any time and all states should still have that right).

Either way, the right to secession wasn't "revoked" because you can't revoke a natural human right.

I'd like to believe that, but the government would give you a different answer. Apparently once you join a club you can't leave according to that principle.

I greatly doubt that the United States would let a state, even California, waltz out on its own to be a free nation. Not impossible, but highly improbable. Sure, force wouldn't be the first option, but it would certainly be the last resort. And if anyone here is willing to logically argue the fact that the state of California could wield a military force capable of challenging the United States...well, then...I don't have a reply to that.

Actually, I think it wouldn't be a problem with the current administration - I'm sure Bush has no problem with throwing away 56 Democrat college votes.

considering the Wheat Belt is not a significant part of your proposed sucession... good luck.

also, if the west and East coast seceeds from the US, each will form their own government. thus you need to only look at the west coast resources.... I think you'll find yourselves properly screwed.

Hehe, you know what he'll do now?

"Hmm... the west coast and east coast have to be connected... so i'll have the northernmost and southernmost states too...

but that leaves a hole in the middle... they should leave the us too!

The result?

The us

that's just engaging in a blatant contradiction, considering the state claims at the same time that it derives its legitimacy directly from the right of self determination. now, it could also escape this contradiction by denying that claim, and instead claiming that it is legitimate because of the divine right of 219 year old bits of paper or because it'll kick your ass if you disagree or something. but that probably won't make people too happy and few members of the ruling elite would want to openly take up that position.
