Reminds me of a book I read once, called "I, Lucifer" (interesting book, it's the story of satan from satan's perspective). He was talking about how hell actually isn't that bad, it's actualy pretty nice, and he goes on to talk about why would he ever want to make it BAD, his goal is to get you there (and therefore, not in heaven), so he wants to encourage you to sin, and what better way to encourage you to sin then tell you that where you go if you do is actually not that bad a place. It was religion and "god's side" that said hell was a bad place, to try to turn you away, when in reality it would actually be against the devil's own best interest to make it so.

So at the end of this he says something like "so go ahead, sin, really, there's no punishment for it, hell isn't bad, you'll enjoy it. However, as you sit there thinking about that, and whether I'm telling you the truth or not, keep in mind that I am, in fact, the devil."
