My explanation would be that lust is wanting that person, whereas love is wanting that person to be happy.

I think there is certainly that aspect, but there's more to love than simply selflessness. Something has to cause that person to seem so incredibly precious.

The reason I wouldn't use the term chemistry is because that is more of a physical thing in my mind, and you can have chemistry with a wide range of people at the same time. I don't think the same applies to true love, whatever true love is.
