I didn't see a thread for this match yet, so I figured I'd get it going. :) Predictions?
Personally, I see Portugal squeaking past the Dutch, 4-1. Poll coming.

I can see this going to extra time and maybe penalties. 3-2 to either team AET, or Portugal to win on penalties.
Edit: Dutch/Portugal in OT?

There was a quote from Figo, some time ago, saying that the English clubs in Europe don't do very well as their players don't take advantage of the refs. - or something to that effect. The Portuguese, as a team, should be very heavily fined by FIFA for bringing the game into disrepute, and be excluded from the tournament. The theatrics and faking was a disgrace to football.

Simple. The Potuguese took their chance, and even though the Dutch created a lot more chances, they didn't take them. The game easily could have ended 3-1 with a Dutch win, but not the other way around. Just because a team wins doesn't mean it deserves to because it plays better. I can't believe Van Basten didn't put Van Nistelrooy on. Kuyt should have been replaced with him after about 70 minutes.

Holland lived by the sword and died by it- blame Van Basten for not bringing on Van Nistelrooij.
Deco should have been sent off for his first card, but the poor sportsmanship from the Dutch in not giving the ball back after Portugal had kicked it out, underlines their attitude towards the game.

a) At the game: I think it was evenly matched, a fair score would be a tie, but the gods smiled at Portugal, so be it.
b) At the fouls: No one is innocent, both teams saw two men out for very good reasons (though one can argue that the referee was being too picky). Sure, the Portuguese are a bit more theatrical, but it was a Portuguese player that suffered a foul so rought he had to be replaced (Ronaldo), so no one can say "oh they are so bad", ahh shit. Its tactics, if you know football, you know smart players will try to win fouls. Its that simple.

I am not referring to that incident. I admit that that was reckless, I said that the dutch overreacted. However it is the type of treatment CR brings on himself, with his diving the moment anyone tries to tackle him. If you are going to be booked anyway (as happened to Van Bommel - for nothing), you may as well make it worth while is the mindset he generates. It is not just CR who does this - Ronaldinho and Robinho of Brazil are just as guilty.

:p I knew what you meant. I'm an Arsenal fan, and I'm quite happy we play such great football. Success doesn't bother me so much - I have realistic expectations, and I know when Arsenal should win and when we shouldn't be surprised if we lose or are outplayed.
I can understand that. A 1-0 win is nowhere near as pleasing as a 4-3 win or 3-3 draw.

What??
God no.
I'm a neutral too but van Bommel CLEARLY clipped his ankles together with an outstretched foot from behind.
That was one of the few valid ones.
I suggest you watch a reply carefully later then. You will see, if you open your eyes, that Van Bommel does not make any contact at all - none. CR had lost control of the ball and all he had left to do was fall over (as he does 75% of the time - but meh).

As well as a growing number of players. I have seen players in every team take crazy dives, which several years ago they wouldn't have. Sadly it is becoming more and more part of the game. I blame the Brazilians as they brought it into the game. Argentina and Brazil (other teams too) have been doing it for years, it is only more recently that the European teams have started using it so often. Probably just to try and make things even. If those other teams didn't do it then European teams wouldn't have started either. It is sad though, this world cup has clearly shown that it is ruining the game.

I just don't know how to describe this.. A record of red cards and yellow cards.. We've written history, just not in any good way. :( :( :(
Actually the record for yellow cards was tied.

Wow. The dirtiest game I've seen so far.
Took the words right off of my fingertips.

Yeah, that "tackle" on Ronaldo that went unpunished meant that the players thought they could get away with anything. Then it just got silly.
Pretty much an accurate statement.

Before the game, I thought the Dutch would win 2-0. Seems I was quite a way off.

How can one good shot by one player convince you automatically that his team played better the whole game?
It convinces me that his team has the ability to finish chances and therefore deserve to win.

However, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari defended Figo.
He said: "Jesus said we should turn the other cheek, unfortunately, Figo is not Jesus Christ."
Fantastic line. :D
Figo will play against England.

Hmm... I'm not sure. FIFA could lay the smack down on his ass to make them look all big, tough and 'in control'.
Tis a great line though, heh.

Nope. Its been confirmed.
Luis Figo can play in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final against England after Fifa ruled out further action for a headbutt on Holland's Mark van Bommel.
The Portuguese skipper was booked and because referee Valentin Ivanov took action, Fifa will not intervene.
Fifa communications director Markus Siegler said: "He was sanctioned immediately by the referee at the time.
"The referee's report is being analysed but it is very unlikely anything will happen as he has been sanctione

Uh, what?
It was a corner kick, not a penalty and Rivaldo was later fined/sanctioned because of his terrible acting. As bad as that was, the point is is that becaue the ref took action against Figo, there is nothing the Discip. Committee from FIFA can do.
Rivaldo was not cautioned and it was because of video evidence that he was caught by the Committee later.
(Not because his acting was bad.... you know what I mean!)
