Of course. Because we once had an empire that spanned a quarter of the globe's land we are to blame. Try imagining the world without the British Empire ever becoming.

Without us (http://www.esa.int/images/asteoride1,4.jpg) the industrial revolution probably wouldn't have happened. Maybe the Nazi's would have won and life would've been worse. Maybe the world would have been a lot better, doubtful, extremely, but still.

I think maybe we have helped develop a lot of countries over the years. And Ireland f*cked up itself.

Just because your country didn't have as big an empire as mine is no reason to start going off on one...

You did not beat the Nazis, all you could do was defend your own borders. The USSR did most of the fighting- they won the second world war yet at a terrible cost.
Capitalism and enginuity dictates that the industrial revolution would have came anyway, be it in Britain or otherwise.
And how did Ireland f*ck up itself? Wise up to thine self.

Yes, Africa and the middle east developing much as Europe did - slowly, painfully, but not struggling with Borders imposed on them by some whitey with a gun..no opium wars...no slaughter of natives...no famine...no plantation....(todays riot wouldnt have happened for starters)..sounds good to me.

We starved, shot and robbed ourselves for 600 years...Wow, thats mass hysteria and a half.

I say that Northern Ireland should be returned to the Irish progressively.

SWEET ! JESUS! right im not even gona arse waisting my time reading all of these posts.. ireland suffered horably under english rule for 800 years. you may not get thaught that in england but we do.. ( im irish by the way) i dont want the north back, cus we wouldnt know what to do with it.. it would be a waste of money and to expensive.. maybe some ejit gobshite nationalsts might want it, but thats a bit f*****g thik. england did not take over ireland by tribal treatys as someone said.. the normamns invaded.. and then cromwell did.. oh and yes the plantations! did learn about those? no ,, well thats were you took everyones land and put in english setelers to make the place easyer to run thats where the phrase "to conaught or to hell" came from, cus we were all made move to the shit provence in the west.... we spent 800 years dying and fighting anyway we could for freedom. but it really only took off when we started to fight a gurilla war.. .. oh and as for ireland doesnt know whats best for it lets see 800 years of british rule= crippling recesion and just so muched f****d up stuff im not arsed mentioning.. where as 80 years of self rule since the 20's = ireland being the richest country in the world per capita.no say in the world? eat shit and die.. thats not our concern.. we dont want to have a loud overbearing voice for all to hear.. we want to live in peace.. and live free.... right you think ireland reuniting is good.. do you know whats after happining today? and orange march was organised in o'connol street today...didnt start.. riots.. cars burining shops trashed... the works really.. all these little scum bag supposed nationalists using our countrys falg to hide their face while throwing bricks at gardi and other people.. theres people like that on everyside in the conflict.. and as long as theres ignorant f**ks like them.. and most definitly you.. uniting is out of the question... and frankly i find the idea of it disgusting to the very core.. if i ever saw you crossing the street... trust me i would not break ( all adressed to europa) anyway st patrick came from wales.. not england.. and we drink on paddys day CUS ITS OUR HOLIDAY! why not? we have an internationl holiday.. no one in ireland really cares about the north or the catholic church anymore

id have to say that ireland was never fully a member of anything british,, you made us so, so that you could feel all warm and fuzzy inside.. and please read up about the past between england and ireland before you EVER! EVER even get a drop of thought of starting up such a stipid f****ng thread again.. seriosuly! ...besides a republic means it wants the abolishment of a monarchy for all the people in the empire.. not just one country.. and trust me england could do with an abolishion of the monarchy.. not saying you have to.. i just think it would be for the best.. any way the queens visiting ireland this summer.. i like that.. good.. shes a nice lady... but lets see what happins... im telling you their going to need every garda and memeber of the defence forces.. i welcome her.. but im not going to go watch.. as for al other who just got dragged into this stupid thread.. peace... as for europa... dear jesus dont have kids.. please.. and if you do.. ..well just dont... ..p.s i like england.. really i do.. im not religious so i dont take sides.. and i dont want the north... im just seriously insulted by europa and others,, for just not knowing about any of the past.. before making this thread.. and yes irish people can join your army with out three years of being a citizen.. its called being an EU member.. it works with france germany etc.. oh and the US... they like having recruits.. peace out and slan

ireland should pay us compensation for the damage caused by the IRA like it or not.
Shut up. Compared to what Britain did to this country, the IRA barely made a dent. And the Republic surely is not responsible for the actions of the IRA. They are not our army.

My god, but this thread is moronic (and so are most of the things people are saying). First of all, Americans, butt out. You twits don't know what is going on there. Also, you have some incredibly stupid, romantic ideas of "the home country". Most of you are generation x americans, get some national pride. Secondly, the status quo is the best option right now. The republic of irelanders don't want british influence. The Northern Irelanders do. The northern Irelanders have made their decision, so leave them be. Plus, the entire Irish Republican Army is a group of criminal (they are into organized crime) terrorists, who are harming innocent British subjects to vindicate their weak, fearful, jealous feelings. Anyway, NI should stay british, any catholics living there who don't like it can take a hike. And the RoI should stay in their hands. Its not like the UK wants you/them back anyway.

thats true.. the ira no longer exists as it did.. i believe the reason they gave up most ( i seriously doubt all) of their heavy weaponary eg rpg's and hmg's is not because they kill british soldiers anymore.. but because they only need handguns to rob banks

And Ireland f*cked up itself.

Explain this one, would you?
