Species.

When it first came out a bunch of us went to see it, and thereafter it was always known in our circle as Faeces. And as if one wasn't bad enough, they went and made a second!! Needless to say, I didn't bother seeing "Faeces II".

But Natasha Henstridge gets nekkid. And Forest Whitaker is in it. and theres some Giger stuff. What more could you want?

I forgot "passion of the christ"

Mel gibson's latest ego mania-thon.

A low-brow blood and gore movie.

Wait, Natasha Henstridge gets naked in the Passion of the Christ? I must have missed that part.

Actually, the SciFi channel made a Species III. It's out on DVD, if you want it ;) .

They even made a movie called "Mansquito," only slightly redeemed by the presence of Corin Nemec.

It's like they're trying to lose the enormous goodwill they've gained from me for Mondays and Fridays.

Oh, and if that last bit was a Jack O'Neill reference, nice.

I watched five minutes of Mansquito...

Didn't know I made the reference (the only thing I watch is Battlestar Gallactica, which I find to be amazingly well written, especially in it's relative lack of reliance on the sci-fi aspects to drive the stories)

I'm begining to think I can just walk up to them and say, "Give me money to make a movie" "Well, what's it abo-" "Sh sh shhh. Let's not pretend you care..."

I watched about 10. Couldn't quite take it, but don't like to knock Corin Nemec.

It's one of the catchphrases of Jack O'Neill, the former main character on SG-1.

You're for sure right about the movie thing.

I think the reason the SciFi channel will make just about anything is because they know that there are megabucks to be made from the Science Fiction crowd. They just have yet to realize that we are a very picky crowd. We don't like crap. For every Sci-Fi book that is a best seller, there are hundreds if not thousands that suck ass. Same goes for movies and TV shows- we want our Sci-Fi, but not if it is lame.

Has anybody seen "Season of the Witch?" My God, its a American sixties piece about a housewife embracing feminism though deep psychological witchcraft: E.g. shooting her overbearing husband down with a 12 gauge because he slapped her around for letting the daughter sleep around with the man she would in fact sleep with too...all this with dreams of her getting locked up in dog cages and hit with newspapers!

The infamous scene comes when she is in a witch store, buying witch implements, alone, and the owner asks her in this deep climatic voice:
"Hey lady, are you a witch or something?"

Every once in a while I start to think that I don't really like sci fi. A friend always tells me, "No, it's just that a lot of it sucks."

I would have to say:

Starship Troopers II - horrific movie.

Rabbit-Proof Fence - I have never seen it, I include it because it is lies through and through, and I don't watch lies presented as fact.

A Cry in the Dark - Sentimental American romanticisation of the Australian lifestyle. Plus, Meryl Streep's "Australian" accent was like nails on a blackboard. Get a vocal coach.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH PLOT AND LEAVE OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PLOT-POINTS IN A NOVEL. Also, don't make a film as part of a series, based on novels in said series, and not read all the novels in a series.

Being John Malkovich - I don't understand this film, except as pseudo-intellectual garbage, spewed out to make arts students feel superior because they "get it". Bit like Woody Allen movies.

I'm amazed no one has mentionned this one before: Catwoman
Perhaps nobody went to see it ( I wish I hadn't) or you are all masculin, because the only reason I can imagine for enjoying this movie is that you are a guy and you like halle berry....
Bad plot, non-existant acting, Halle Berry senselessly walking around in leather and with a whip... do I have to say more?

That was one of those movies where I felt like the people putting the trailers together where trying to say, "Dude, seriously...don't waste your time..."

Don't have tv anymore, so I have to Netflix everything I watch, and right now I watch two things--Battlestar Galactica and The Wire. Those are two of the best written shows out there.

I have cable and I haven't heard of The Wire. What's that all about...ignoring for a moment that I'm currently hooked up to the internet and could find out on my own in fractions of a second...sooo lazy...

EDIT:Having gotten over the laziness and looking that up, it does look kinda cool. Gonna have to check that out.

I'm gonna have to agree with those that mentioned Signs and The Village. I loved The Sixth Sense and rather enjoyed Unbreakable, but the recent movies have just been lame. I more and more suspect that Shyamalan simply got lucky once, and that it's not going to happen again any time soon.

Oh good lord that was a terrible movie... and you know what was worse than all those bits you said? Halle Berry actually looked WORSE when she cut her hair and put on the leather, it destroyed any chance of interest in the movie from anybody at that point. Except from my sister of course *groan*
