Best metal subgenre? - Page 2
Grindcore, Stoner/Sludge and Nu-Metal, are not actual types of metal. You might as well have put Shock Rock in there, for examples of shock rock, listen to Marylin Manson, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, and Slip Knot.
Don't forget Alice Cooper, one of the pioneer's of shock rock.

Bullshit. Some (not all) stoner metal bands crossover with rock...but that's not that unusual within metal as a whole (see Black Sabbath. Are they not metal?). A person who does not like metal will very likely not like stoner metal. Go listen to Kyuss or Sleep, for example.

The following is not directed at you, but at "genre-relativists" in general.
At a restuarant...
Don't-label-things-guy: "I'd like some soup."
Waiter: "What kind of soup would you like?"
Don't-label-things-guy: "Gawd! Why do you have to label everything? You are ruining the soup! Stop segregating the soups! Give me soup that I like!"
quoted for truth :D
So, uh, all metal, ever, then? Except sell-out mallcore/mallmetal?
exactly, I really wish people that don't like Metal would stay out of discussions about it :(
(BTW I could easily make the same kind of comments he made but about his favourite music, but then first I'd have to listen to the crap :p )
Don't forget Alice Cooper, one of the pioneer's of shock rock.Alice Cooper has a lot more Hard Rock influences than the other bands listed though (and he rawks!)

Death Metal is determined by the way the instruments are played not the singing. Reign in Blood's singing is solely thrash, and so is instrumental sound. I have to disagree, the music on Reign in Blood is too heavy to be thrash.

**thinks** new Dragonforce CD? Don't they have one coming out in January?
Actually, theres one out right now. It's called Inhuman rampage, and I downloaded it using bittorrent. It's really amazing, and if you can download a bit torrent program and then search for it.
I have to disagree, the music on Reign in Blood is too heavy to be thrash.
Well, agree to disagree. You do bring a good point, but I still think Reign in Blood is thrash. To each their own.
SUBGENRES?
You are ruining music, like hair metal did. Why don't we all segregate music as much as we can, that course would achieve all the unity we can immagine.
For fuck's sake. Subgenres.
Anyways, any "metal" that is in the key of the lowest string on the guitar (Metallica), contains members that try to show off to the point they lose their pop sensability (Van Halen, Dream Theatre), has vocals that over power everything else (Nevermore, Iced Earth, Opeth), uses so much double kick that it makes your chest hurt (Fear Factory, Atreyu), has WAY too much reverb/delay/any other sort of echo (SEE: 80's metal including Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy and his band's) is all GARBAGE.
Listen to Daughters. Listen to Comeback Kid.

You sir, are a jerk. By classifying subgenres we are not splitting metal up, and killing it. By classifying stuff like this, we are just talking about which we prefer. Are we killing each other over subgenres? No. Also, just because we like one subgenre more, doesn't mean we cannot appreciate the other one. Last thing, just because you don't like metal doesn't mean you have to come in here, trash it, and then parade your shitty music.

Early Testament isn't that heavy...I'm not sure if I'd call their newer stuff thrash.
Dark Angel's CDs are out of print. :(
I plan to buy some Exodus as well...not too familiar with their music, either.

Um errr... If we're defining genres by the actual type of music played (rather than reactions to the music) NIN and Manson are Industrial and the other two are Nu.
I'm listening to Nile atm. Weiiiiird and awesome. :D

No, I do like certain death metal don't get me wrong. I just happen to agree with Pure Metal, which is saying because of the heavy sound/tuning on a CD doesn't make it death metal. Lately I've taken an affinity to Opeth and Into Eternity.

According to the Dragonforce website, Inhuman Rampage isn't being released until Jan 9 2006.
I guess it's been leaked onto the net or something...
