...The shot that killed the Hood was a stray shot that detonated X guns ammunition chambers..it was a 1 in a 100 shot. The Hood and POW would have sunk the Bismarck if the Hood could have got into deck-skimming range rather than plunging shots. Then there's the other RN ships around...

Jeefs, please cut out the "unelected spongers". Of course they are, but do you have any idea how much tourist revenue they bring in compared to what they cost the taxpayer? It's phenomenal. Besides, "unelected" goes both ways: they don't ask the media to watch their every move, but that's what they get. I don't imagine, deep down, William and Harry wanted the vultures circling round their parents' marriage, or around them, and while they try to use their inherited publicity now for good I'm willing to bet they sometimes they could just be the paupers at the gates too.

There was nothing wrong with the Hood, there was something wrong with the concept of the battlecruiser, which the German navy built too, and would have used in WWII had the entire German navy not been scuttled at Scapa Flow at the end of the First.
