I entered the beach club as the sky was bright; the sun was in all of its primeval glory, burning down on us mere mortals, warming us with its rays - those immortal, invisible rays. I straightened my jacket - my grey one this time, the one with the small, circular holes in it by the left breast pocket that I had yet to take to the laundrette and have stitched up; they seemed to suit the air of the suit, matching its battered, crinkled exterior that fit around my torso like an old glove.

I noticed the words 'Paradise Beach Club 2' at the front of the building as I walked in, and as I tugged at the collar of the jacket I wondered idly what had happened to the first one. I shrugged; it was none of my damn business anyway- all I wanted was a drink and a place to relax. I entered the bar itself and looked around. There were dozens of people here, drinking, lounging around - talking. I stretched to my full height- Five Foot Eight, and not an inch less - brushed the parting in my silvery-black hair and walked upto the bar and the man behind it.

I coughed, and he turned to me, with that look on his face that all bartenders around the world have; neutral, with a hint of inquisitiveness in it, as they all did. I glared at him, but softened it with a slight nod, and placed a ten-spot on the bar - crinkled, just like the rest of my stuff. 'Whiskey - the good stuff, nothing cheap. And ice. Plenty of ice.'

I needed to relax, and though towels weren't exactly my usual way of relaxing, as there wasn't a TV anywhere around that I could see, I wanted the company.

Picking up a vacant towel, and shrugging off the jacket and laying it on the ground, I walked up to the small group. 'This a private party, or can anyone join?' I asked, in what I hoped was a polite tone for me.

I turned my nose up for a second; such...exotic smells weren't exactly ten-a-dime in my line of work. Copper was usually more the usual smell.

I looked again at the skin...and despite years of being a cop, I hadn't noticed it was tanned. God, I needed this break. I was just relaxing when the bartender came over. All boiling fury and venomous wrath. The fact that she was a women made it even worse. I tuned out from the various expletives coming from her mouth; I'd heard a lot, lot worse from the sort of scum I dealt with over the years, and what she was saying was kinda cute, in a furious, vengeful sort of way. She was also quite a looker, as well.

Finally, she stalked off to the other end. I started to turn back to the first broad, but felt...something. God knows what it was, but I felt the need to apologise, or at least vindicate myself. I gave the first woman a look of apology and picked up my towel, placing it by the side of the 'tender. 'Ma'am, I must apologise. I didn't see you once I'd got my drink, or I'd never have been so rude as to turn my back on such a beautiful gal like you.', I said, softening my speech with the full extent of my irish brogue.
