How the hell did ISRAEL get into Eurovision???
People in mainland Europe have the WORST taste in music, dear God.
You pick nations like Croatia, Latvia, Bosnia, etc. the singers from those nations couldnt sing if the life of their mothers depended on it.

Eurovision is a perfect i.e. of a corrupt tv show/contest.

Send in Oasis! It would be nice to see a high-caliber act hit the stage rather than another bunch who not only get but deserve 'nul points'.

The reason Eurovision is so bad musically is that everyone knows its not about the music so why risk a high class acts reputation, when you can send a scamply clad female with little or no talent.

I predict the winner this year will be somewhere in the Baltics, as every year they vote for each other almost guarrenteeing them a high placed finnish.

Face it, Iceland deserved to do poorly because of the poor act and the inability of the song to stick. Really, Iceland has been sending bad acts to the Eurovision since 2000 and doesn't seem to have snapped out of this current slump, as evidenced by how you've placed these last years (or not placed, as you've actually missed a contest due to relegation caused by low scores).

Croatia sent a typical Balkan ballad which they almost always do well with. You know why? Because they do them very well.

I don't like Estonia's entry, but I understand why other people do. It was not a joke - it was a decent girl band "feel good" type of song that people tend to like.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has nothing to do with being in continental Europe or having a "European" culture, and has everything to do with being a member of the EBU/UER (European Broadcasting Union/Union Européenne de Radio-Télévision ).

That's why Morocco has been a contestant. That's why Israel has been a contestant (winning three times, which is far from being the number one winners, several countries have won more times than that, for instance Sweden, France and the UK, but the leader is Ireland with seven wins, IIRC). That's why Lebanon could have been a contestant, before they dropped out so shamefully.

They had a great song and great performer, but the stupid Lebanese authorities didn't want to allow the airing of the Israeli song, and thus wanted to censor the contest like they do every year, airing it with a delay so that anything about Israel can be removed, something which the EBU refused to allow them to do if they wanted to remain in the contest. So they dropped out, the bastards.

Didn't like Hungary but Norway is my favorite now. Finland was better than usually and at least he (Norwegian) could sing which can not be said about many of the other contestant. (Ireland wtf? Portugal? I almost cried for them, never seen anything worse on Eurovision and that says a lot)

Israel media wise and culturally is very connected to Europe, we must remember a lot of immigrants in Israel are from Europe. I personally think they should not qualify as they are a rogue state but then again.. some of their songs are OK.

We're having a Eurovision Party tomorrow (party in the sense that five or six people are going to sit down, play some games, eat pizza, watch Eurovision etc.).

I didn't watch the semi-finals, so I don't know anybody's entry other than the UK's. I like to predict the winner after I've seen all the performances, and last year I actually got it right - Ukraine had a pretty decent Eurovision song (catchy tune, scantily clad woman, weird dancing, etc.), so I'm hoping to make it two in a row tomorrow.

last year we were absolutely dreadful! I nearly wet myself laughing, although this year I actually like Javine, it worries me immensely, i know we still won't win though, especially after we just re-elected Mr Blair but still it worries me when i like Eurovison entries, they should have entered Jordan (*resists urge to make dirty joke about entering Jordan*)

I'm not sure if it's still the same, but a years ago it was like only us, France and Germany etc. had phone votes and the Baltics and Balkans etc. had like commitees that were locked away in a room to watch Eurovision and they made the votes. And it was *those* votes that were always political.

But that's probably changed now. You can tell when they get the votes in and if they don't say 'here are the results from the ---- phone votes'' then that's the commitee voting politically. Bless.

The Scandinavian states do not always vote for each other - if they did, you'd think that Norway, Finland and Iceland would do better? Look at the statistics - Scandinavia is not to blame for the fact that Sweden often happens to get a good result, the only Scandinavian country to do so consistently. People just seem to like the trash we send... although, mind you, ABBA was like pearls for swine, if you ask me.
