My name is Robert and im 18. I live in southern Ohio and apparently I am a disgusting piece of filth who is doomed to hell. Why? Because I am a homosexual. Around the age of 10 I began to notice other boys. I found myself aroused by them and not by girls. At this age I had to go with my grandma to church because she had to watch me on Sundays. I would every now and again hear her or her church members talking about how people who are attracted to the same sex will go to hell if they don’t renounce their ways. I even remember going through a drive through with her once asking “Do gay people go to hell moma?” and her reply “Yes, unless the renounce their ways.” So here I am at the age of 10 wondering why god would hate me for something I couldnt help?

Now Im 18, and I don’t believe in god, but I still feel hated. People all around me are acting as if people like me are disgusting vermin to be killed or isolated. People are trying hard to deny me the right to marry. Only two years ago I became so depressed with all of the hate around me I tried to kill myself. It hurt and it still does. Now I have found someone who I have been with for little over a year now and who I love very deeply. I’ve never loved anyone....even found it hard to love my family, but this person I hold very dear and im scared to death, that I wont be able to marry them....at least in America. Why does everyone hate me? I just want to love and be loved........

I'm sorry for what you went through. Not everyone hates you. I don't hate you. As a group, it seems the people from your town (city?) are ignorant. I don't know anything about where you live, but it seems to me, if your environment is so toxic, MOVE. There are other places where you can be who you are. So by that logic, African-Americans and Amerindians should never have complained about racism and had the whole civil rights movement, women shouldn't have complained about being treated as inferior, and homosexuals shouldn't complain about being burned in effigy daily- if not beaten?

Being a victim of bigotry is not something to write off. Mindsets like yours do nothing for the rights of others. Grow up and realize that some injustices are just that- injustices. They have every right to complain.

Come to New York, about 1/3rd of the guys in my school are gay, and all the straight guys are happy for it cause it leaves more girls to them!. No, you misinterepereted what I said. I was baisically saying that just becasue you feel hated doesn't mean that you should look down on everything. Anytime anyone tells you you have to 'become' straight, ask them if they have the ability to just 'become' gay. As you know yourself, hardly anyone chooses their sexuality (I'm in a damned small minority, and I only chose to be bi, and I think it was only a choice insofar as I stopped ignoring my brain going 'Hey, that guy is really cute! Yeah, that GUY. With the WANGER. Who is MALE.').

Anyway, I sincerely think the best policy is to move as soon as you can. This is bullshit. IF you experience an injustice, its better to get it out in the open, even when its on a forum. Some people, unlike you NoF, choose not to supress their emotions and become a neurotic wreck. Your methods of dealing with your legion problems (which I've heard expounded on this board SEVERAL times now) are probably not recommended. Personally, there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Anyone who claims that you are going to go to Hell for it is going there way before you. Its just another change in society that most people are too ignorant and bigotted to accept. We accepted blacks (mostly), we accpted women (mostly), and, once we get a president who can look at things long term, we will accept you.

Hey, I live in Cincinnati, and it is not a bad place at all. The weather's kinda crappy and random, but other than that, it's quite a nice place to live. Then again, I'm very conservative.

Anyways, I would agree that the topic creator has every right to post his tale of woe here on this board, but other forum posters have the right to criticize his decission to post it. Personally, I don't mind him complaining here, but I'm not going to give him much sympathy either. As other posters have already said, the opinion that everyone hates him is not due to the fact he's gay, but because he's 18 and going through an angsty period of mental development that is absolutely normal for people in their teens.

So let him post here, and let others criticize and/or defend him. Although I do agree that if the feelings of depression are so severe, he should be telling these things to a psychologist, not to NS.

Hey, I live in Cincinnati, and it is not a bad place at all. The weather's kinda crappy and random, but other than that, it's quite a nice place to live. Then again, I'm very conservative.

Anyways, I would agree that the topic creator has every right to post his tale of woe here on this board, but other forum posters have the right to criticize his decission to post it. Personally, I don't mind him complaining here, but I'm not going to give him much sympathy either. As other posters have already said, the opinion that everyone hates him is not due to the fact he's gay, but because he's 18 and going through an angsty period of mental development that is absolutely normal for people in their teens.

So let him post here, and let others criticize and/or defend him. Although I do agree that if the feelings of depression are so severe, he should be telling these things to a psychologist, not to NS.

Did you see a psychiatrist or a psychologist? There is a difference, you know. Psychologists focus on talk-therapy, while Psychiatrists try to correct problems with medical treatment (i.e. anti-depression drugs, etc.). Anyways, the advice he gave you might not seem like much, but you never know, it might be worth a shot (although I do realize how pointless it would seem to you).

It's not as if it's impossible to go to school and pay for on your own.

If his mom is supportive of his sexuality and understands why it's important to him maybe he can get her to help contribute a bit.

Most colleges offer health insurance through the school and a lot of schools have students live in dorms as part of the deal.

There are many places you can go to school that you don't need to pay for gas. cities with good transportation systems, small towns, etc.

Even if it is true (which I still don't fully believe...skepticism is in my nature) it seems to be an extreme case.
1. The "going to hell" for being gay thing isn't some bigoted idea. It simply derives from the fact that we believe what you do is wrong. Of course, they are wrong to judge what level of damnation is brought upon homosexuality. Does one go to hell for stealing a cookie? What degree of sin does homosexuality entail? I don't know, it's up to the Deity. But what you must remember that these people don't hate gays. They hate what you do. It's a situation similiar to prostitution, for example.
2. What you describe seems false mainly because of its extremity. It's a fact that most gay people in the US are frowned upon, (we simply don't like what you do...and trying to change that will only make it worse) but death threats are extremely rare. There is no epidemic of gay killings in the US. In fact, even the famous case of Matthew Shepard (I think that was the name) who became a gay martyr, had nothing to do with his being gay.

Of course, they are wrong to judge what level of damnation is brought upon homosexuality. Does one go to hell for stealing a cookie? What degree of sin does homosexuality entail? I don't know, it's up to the Deity. But what you must remember that these people don't hate gays. They hate what you do. It's a situation similiar to prostitution, for example.
2. What you describe seems false mainly because of its extremity. It's a fact that most gay people in the US are frowned upon, (we simply don't like what you do...and trying to change that will only make it worse) but death threats are extremely rare. There is no epidemic of gay killings in the US. In fact, even the famous case of Matthew Shepard (I think that was the name) who became a gay martyr, had nothing to do with his being gay.


Im not really worried about it, it happened though. I called the police and in the process found out it was a smartass, druggie, who just gets his shits and giggles from bothering other people. Still in a town like this, you have to take things like that seriously. Scared the shit outta me when I got it though.

What has been done to you in the name of Christ is wrong. While I believe that homosexuality is wrong, so are a lot of other things, and God doesn't judge one thing to be worse than another.

That said, you are still a human being created in the image of God, and worthy of incalcuable dignity and respect just based on that fact. Anyone who has beaten you up or threatened you is not showing the attitude of Christ like they should.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with homosexuals, I was friends w/ one back in High School. I do not like flagrant homosexuals any more than I like flagrant heterosexuals. I'm fine with them as long as they don't constantly bring up how they are gay, and how they are mistreated, and how the world hates them, and as long as they never hit on me. I've never had a problem with that, and yes, I do know that very few homosexuals would hit on someone they thought was straight.

Wait till you get older. Regardless of your sexual orientation, there's more that's going to happen in life. Regardless of sexual orientation, the following can happen:

1. Someone (or multiple someones) will kick your ass so hard you'll be in the hospital. And it's usually personal, but not because you're gay. It will happen for no real reason.

The reason homsexuality is a sin is because marriage is not only defined in the bible as man with woman because that's how God created people, but also sex in any way shape or form, hetereosexual or homosexual alike, outside of that holy union of marriage is a sin and will be met with spiritual death (hell). Another thing I want to stress, 'breaking' that holy union is also met with spiritual death.

On a lighter note, here's a joke. As we all know, God created man and woman. She ate of the fruit and tricked Adam into eating it also. Woman's punishment was pain and worry. She was doomed to have pain from menstrual stuff and labor pain, etc. That was her punishment. Do you know what man's punishment was? Putting up with woman. That's why God doesn't approve of homosexuality cause they found a loophole in the system....

People who have any sort of sex before marriage are hypocrites if they're Christians.

You are the one that will decide whether or not you go to heaven, not God. No one has the right to tell you waht to do, but we do have the obligation to tell you it's wrong and the reasons why. If no one has sat down and read scripture to you about why it's wrong are not doing good in God's eye. He said in His word we're all ministers of reconciliation which means we have to essentially study the bible and have enough spiritual knowledge to preach to others about it. That doesn't mean cast judgemen ton people and those who have passed judgement are wrong and aren't Christians. They will not be accepted by Jesus.
