Hi!

My real name is Alex (first name will suffice) I was born in San Leandro California on Jan. 10, 1987. I lived there for five years I don't remember much of. When I was five I moved to Glen Rock, New Jersey. I lived there for ten years. While there I attended elementary, secondary, and a year of high school. All of my classes were small as the town was only 11,000 people. It was in Glen Rock I had my first real girlfriend as well. I really enjoyed the town and loved livivng in the North East. When I was 14, my family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, a town of just over 200,000. I've been there for almost four years now. I'm finishing high school this year and plan to continue on to college - I don't know where yet. It took a while to get used to but I am enjoying living here now. I've made some great friends who continue to be good fun. Its also here that I started to drink, smoke, and do drugs. I've pretty much stopped the drugs and drinking after a bad experience but I continue to smoke. . .oh well.

Now you know me a little better - how bout all of you?

ummm... I went to public school for ten years. Now I'm homeschooled which is why I'm on here all the time. I had to leave public school beacue I had too many health problems and I couldn't keep up. I still can't keep up, but my health is getting better. I'll probably have to take a year off before going to college so I can finish school. I am a junior. I plan to attend FIT in NY, and major in fashion design.

I hope your health cleans up soon. How's the homeschooling going? I've heard mixed things about it. The bowling alley in our town had a night for homeschool kids to come and make friends with each other.

I also love NY City, its just really really expensive to live there.

Hi,

I like moonlight walks by the beach, going to the movies, cute animals and boys that aren't afraid to cry.

I dislike mean people, dirty fingernails and broccoli.

...

Oh wait... you didn't mean like that? :p

Right, I'm nearly 30 and I'm recently married (October last year). I have one human child but I also consider my 2 dogs, 2 rats (well, actually probably about 14 rats since the female gave birth yesterday) & axolotl as my children as well.

I live on the western coast of Australia, in my state's capital city (Perth). I work in IT, although "work" is a relative term as mostly I try to fend off immense boredom (hence posting here :P). I have a love of understanding logical fallacies and trying to point them out whenever I see them and I taught my wife how to count in binary.

I've also read a number of translations of the Tao Te Ching and consider it to be the most fascinating text I've ever read. I'm something of a Deist... I guess my actual spiritual denomination is "confused & uncertain" but Deism probably most closely resembles something that other people will recognise and understand.

I'm passionate about beer and while my budget prevents me from consuming mass quantities of it I do like to find new beers to try. I like to sometimes think I'm a bit of a photographer and to that extent I've got my photography (such that it is) online at DeviantArt (http://salamanderau.deviantart.com).

My father died unexpectedly last year from an apparent accidental overdose of painkillers. He died before he got the chance to see me married, I take some small amount of comfort in the fact that he knew I was going to be married before he died. There were a number of issues I had with him that I did not have the time to resolve and I will now never have the chance to resolve.

Czesc-

My name is Aerou, I'm 22 born Nov. 23rd. in Lodz, Poland. I lived in Lodz until I was 7, at which point I was sent away to the Vienna Opera Ballet school in Austria for 3 years (this being when my mother thought that being a ballerina was my destiny, heh). When I came back from Vienna, my family moved to NYC (Greenpoint) for a few months before moving to Kansas City, Missouri. We lived in Kansas City for a few months before moving to a smaller town about 45 min away (Pop. 5,000, ewwww). To really tell you how small the town is my graduating class was 47 people, and I went on to medical school (which I am currently in) in order to become an endocrinologist. I have 2 years of medical school left (6 year accelerated program). I still dance (started when I was 3) and plan on continuing for a very very long time. I love learning new languages (studying Persian/Farsi at the moment), travelling, and watching documentaries about the strangest things :).

I guess I'll join the crowd. I'm 17 about to graduate from High school. I've lived in Oregon and small towns my whole life. When I was 9 my mother contracted breast cancer, and survived. Three years later my aunt died of the same disease. My mother freaked out on me, mainly because my sister had just moved out and I was an easy outlet. I spent much of my time between the ages 12 and 16 hating people and volunteering at a veterinary clinic. Odd combination I know. I have multiple scars across my back, I'll leave that to your imagination. a few days after I turned 16, (as a matter of fact the day after I got my license) my neighbors lied about something, causing me to get into BIG trouble, big enough to warrent moving away. I then moved to where I live now, I met some people I got along with and then started hanging out with them, and am currently really deppressed, and lacking any sort of motivation to live, or even to work on my 2000 word essay that is due monday. I am torn between wanting to become a Marine and get my ass shipped off to Iraq, and my ass shot while I'm there. Or going to college and becoming a veterinarian. Oh and last spring my mothers cancer came back, and spread to mos tof the rest of her body.

Thats my life. And I really dont' care about anything any more

I do, I do!

My name is Matthew James Billings. I was born at 10:26 am on February 12th, 1983, in Worcester, MA. For the first year of my life, I lived in Gardner, MA, then I moved to Princeton, MA, where I lived until I was 6, after which I moved to Grafton, MA, where I lived until I graduated high school. After graduating high school, I enrolled as a history major at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH, where I completed three and a half years of my degree before deciding this winter that I didn't want to be a history teacher anymore. I love playing football/watching football/talking about football, going to the gym, playing Dungeons and Dragons (yes, seriously), and, as you can see, posting on NationStates. I speak English fluently, Italian poorly, and a smattering of French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, and just recently, Polish. :) I'm an avid Red Sox and Patriots and Celtics and Bruins fan (as you would expect), and I love Boston, Massachusetts, and New England fiercely, despite the weather. I have a younger brother Keith, 20, and younger twin brother and sister, Andrew and Emily, 15. My mother's name is Nancy, 51, and my father's name is Neil, 54. My ancestry is 50% Italian (my mother's side) and 50% German (Pennsylvania Dutch, but let's call it Scotish). I was born and raised Roman Catholic, and while I don't really go to church or really know if I believe, I still have enough faith to give up drinking for Lent. I'm an open book. If you have any questions about me, odds are I'll answer them. I don't generally have many secrets.

My real name is Lyle and I was born in Kamloops, BC, Canada on September 23, 1980. I was raised in the small town of Chase a small lake community of about 3,000 people (Aerou, good things come about in small towns too!) I spent most of my years there, until I was 17 when I moved into Kamloops and started living on my own while I was employed in the sawmill industry. At 18 I started University, took three years, two of them in Engineering. In my third year, a tragic turn in my life became the definition of my character today (good or bad, you can decide) So I finished the year, and quickly moved to Alberta where I first worked in oil field recclaimation in various areas, and then as an engineering technologist in Calgary. I was laid off in late February of last year - and decided that it was time to go home. So after packing up, I moved back to Chase for about two weeks then moved again down to Vancouver (White Rock) in April.

I enjoy snowboarding, wakeboarding, fly fishing, really almost anything that gets me outside and in nature. I draw a little and read a lot, in fact so much that last year I gave my TV away becuase I figured I wasnt getting any use out of it. I have a strong passion for travel and want more than anything to see the world in all of its guises, a goal which I will one day attain. And if many of you havent figured it out yet, Im a bit of a sap sometimes - but I mean well. :)

Hi.

My real name is Eugene Stauffer, I was born November 15, 1984, in Denver, Colorado, my birthmother abandoned me when I was only 3 months old, so I lived with a foster family (if memory serves) for a few years, then I was adopted by my current parents when I was 2. When I was 3, we had to move to minnesota because of my dad's job (no, its not military). Throughout the years, we moved to a bunch of different houses around the suburbs of Minneapolis, until my parents got tired of all the crime and move to Princeton, Minnesota in 1998. :mp5: For some reason, I seemed to be good with all the girls until I moved to princton, where everyone seemed to picked on me. In 2001, I went to my high school's catwalk, and considered commiting suicide by diving head first, because I was sick and utterly tired of being without a girl and felt I wasn't worth some woman's heart. That got me on a 72-hour medical hold after I backed off and confessed. :p In 2004, I attended Anoka Technical college, but I flunked out in december, because I procrastinated too much and posting here on NS. :D I hated college anyway. So now I"m unemployed, with severe hearing loss (had it since birth), a bad back, and not knowing what to do next.

BUT, I think I'm beginning to have the hots for a girl or two here on NationStates ;) (EDIT: Or maybe not)

Name is Brad, senior in finance at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. I was born to Freda and Kurt in southern Illinois. My father was in the USAF and left when I was 4. I spent the first 10 years of my life in 5 different states, finally settling back where I started in Illinois. My mother remarried and now I have two siblings 12 and 14 years younger than me.

I have lived a very, very average life, never having been exposed to much of anything. From ages 10-19 I lived in a small town, only to move to a less small town when I went to college. Now I am desperate to get out of my present situation, but not itching to leave the lifestyle. Perfect word for my current situation is "confused".

Now for the hazy stuff.

Heritage-wise, I'm Irish-Ukrainian-English-Scottish-French-American. Parts of me are constantly surrendering to one another or trying to flee and my liver has long been seeking a recipient and hitmen, especially since I turned 21 on tuesday and half of my friends are babbling incoherently about plans regarding birthday parties, and I can just barely make out the word 'Vegas' coming out of their mouths - needless to say, I'm a little panicked right now.

Favorite color is anything that isn't garish or painful to look at. This tends to be a pattern with just about everything I prefer in an environment.

Weirdest idea of the day is to find a nearby PETA meeting, schedule an unrelated event nearby and see if anyone has the clout to invite Ted Nugent to it.

As you can probably see in a semi-nonsense thread on general about blue-state secession posted by a good old Yankee reactionary (I won't name names, but his initials are Panhandlia), I have a thing for analyzing causal relationships. Between that and the computers and the games, it's no wonder I don't have a social relationship.

Hey y'all. Name's Rob. I'm a 19 yr. old college student at Indiana State. Great fun there. My history is really long and involved and bores most people to tears if they don't know me first.

I'm about 5'9", 160lbs, blonde with green eyes.

I personally love Futurama and Family Guy, play bass guitar, and like driving a whole lot of too damn fast. I tend to be a people person, and love helping people with their problems.

I'm a former drug user, but that stopped a few years ago. Traumatic experiance caused me to quit, and now my only addiction is to my girl and caffine.

As I said before, I love people, so if y'all need anything, lemmie know and I'll do what I can.

PS - I really don't have a southern accent, y'all is just encoded into the lazy portion of my brain, so I use it a lot.

i'm Nick, I school in Carbondale, Illionois, but live in Chicago, and miss it, and my girlfriend therein, very much. I'm an administration of justice major with aspirations of law enforcement, and eventual detective work. I'm a freshman. I was born in virginia, and moved to chicago when i was two. i saw my first drug bust (walked within two feet of the guy) on my way to preschool, which is part of the reason for my career choice. another part happened a few months later when a gang burned down my neighbor's garage, car still inside, because they had painted over some tags.few and far between are the times i've seen my mother more distraught, runnin round the house to make sure that we were all alright. another would be when she moved to within about two blocks of where the latin kings were formed, in humbolt park. going to sleep calculating bullet trajectories by estimated distance and direction from the shot was enough.
anyway, my dad's gay, my sisters got some issues, my mom is now marriied to a strange puerto rican ex-marine contractor artist named ed, of whom we're all quite fond. and i'm fine with questions, so ask away.

Nope. I actually pretended that I knew what I was doing until a couple of years ago. Then I got divorced and became a teenager again. :D

I'm Bryan and I was born on April 10, '86. I am currently attending the University of Alabama in Hunstville working towards a CompE major, with a possible EE double major. I'm 6ft even and weigh anywhere from 210-220 lbs depending on the day of the week (pizza night, w00t :D ). I have two parents, not divorced, and a little brother age 11. I've currently got a 4.0 GPA, but I don't know how long that'll last. My goal in life: live comfortably and righteously, don't wanna be rich 'cause that may conflict with my second goal. ;)

Carbondale huh? My girlfriend's mom went to school there. Are you at Southern Illinois as well? Incidentally, my girl also lives up in the Chicago area (Cary to be precise) and I understand just how hard it is to be so far away from them.

Touching. Truly. Felt these awful feelings for 3 1/2 years now, and get to end them soon. The nice 250 mile strech of highway will no longer be an issue when she moves down here with me. God I can't wait.

Sorry to hear that you're sick. I'd make it better if I could, but I'm no doctor, yet, but even then I would be worthless since I'm majoring in psychology rather than medicine.

i just have to tough it out for about 2/3 of a year, then i transfer to UIC and move in with her and two of her friends. 2nd semester junior year we plan on getting our own place. That kind of thought keeps me goin. the worst part is that she went to southern first semester, and we slept in seperate rooms all of 4 nights in the entire semester. she had effectively moved in with me. adn then we had to shift to long distance.

Ouch, I tend to think that could almost be worse than I have to deal with. Nikki and I have always had the distance, but if yours was added after the relationship... ouch. Sorry man, that's gotta hurt big time, but like you said, it's not forever. Just hold onto the good and things will be great.

In the beginning it was really hard to see her since I didn't have my license yet, but finally, after about 6 months together, I got to see her. Then it was another couple months before I saw her again, and then, due largely to my mother not liking her much, it was almost a year.

Recently, however, since I moved out of the house I have been able to see her once in a month. It's so hard to leave her, but I just keep in mind that one day this won't be an issue, and we'll be able to be together forever. Just gotta hold on until then.

Boring Bio type stuff:
Name: Liliana
Age: 17 (18 in May, hurrah)
Star sign: Taurus (and yes, I show all the traditional symptoms of it, and then some ^.^)
Hair/Eye colour: Brown (red-violet tinted at the moment though (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Img01024.jpg)) and brown

I'm a complete pack rat. If we didn't live in a consumer-whore society, I'd be the girl collecting colourful rocks and leaves. I have way too many collections to list here without annoying people, but the one everyone should be warned about is the ponies. I collect My Little Ponies (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Hell.jpg). Yes, the children's toy, and no, that '17' next to age was not a typo. It says 3+ on the packaging, and I'm 3+ damnit.

I'm an atheist, and somewhere between communist and socialist on most political issues. I'm in year 12/13 of highschool - I was in an accelerated program that skipped year twelve, but I took the option of doing VCE (year's 11 and 12) over three years instead of two so I could spend more time being lazy and sitting at the uni across the road from my school. This year I also got into MUPHAS - Melbourne University's Program for High Achieving Students. I don't know how the hell that happened, but if they think I'm high achieving, I'm sure not correcting them. I'll be studying first year philosophy, and also probably getting lost repeatedly.

I tend to latch onto topics/subjects/individual things and be rabidly interested in them for a period of time, and then move on. The earliest I can remember would probably be my bugs phase. More recently there was Atlantis, A Golden Bough and A New Kind of Science; for a while there I went through a Jigsaw-puzzle phase. I have more than a dozen completed 1000-piece puzzles stored under my bed. I need to reglue them, because the blasted, blasted cats keep messing them up.

Speaking of cats: I own two (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/DSCN0227.jpg). One's a black oriental Siamese named Boo (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/DSCN0015.jpg) (after Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird... you can thank/blame my mother). He's insane and thinks he's a dog - to the extent that he managed to give himself a haematoma (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=haematoma) by running headfirst into a door. Apparently that's rare in cats, but common in dogs. He also likes to sit on the back of my chair and gnaw on my hair, and he has his own My Little Pony that he carries around by the hair. He likes to stretch out on the floor, hold it's hair in his mouth and kick it with his back feet.

Our other cat is technically called 'Saffron' after Saffy from Absolutely Fabulous (blame mum for that one). However, when she was a kitten she picked up 'Baby' as a nickname, and now that's just what she gets called. She recently got chased out of a window by a Mastiff my mum brought home. The window was closed, the cat was fine (although rather scared of the house for a while).

I put other punctuation after apostrophes and parenthesis, rather than before them. (like this). Rather than (like this.) Apparently it's a trait common amongst programmers. I just picked it up because it looks about a trillion times better to me. Maybe I'm a programmer at heart (hahahahahaha!)

I'm a complete Anglophile, and also a strange mix of submissive and subservient. I own fluffy handcuffs. I've shoplifted in the past, and I'd do it again except I really don't see the point (the times I did was when I was teaching a friend - not that that's an excuse, mind, just the reason).

I'm an only child. My dad is pretty much 100% Italian as far back as you can go, whereas my mum is half Irish half German, with some Scottish and Welsh mixed in there somewhere.

I prefer salty and sweet foods, and I tend to be very picky. Recently I discovered I'm more likely to dislike a new food based on its texture, rather than it's taste (I like crunchy/powdery foods mostly).

My favourite animal varies... the most static one would have to be Great White Sharks. I also love Spinner and Common Dolphins. I especially love the irony that, with most dolphin species, the action that appeals most to humans (when they look like they're laughing) is actually a territorial threat.

I tend to be blunt about things (TMI? How can there be TMI?). I'm not a virgin, but I also don't see the big deal about sex (because seriously, wtf?), and I'm giving it all a pass until I either meet the right guy or explode from repressed carnal lust. Oh, yeah, I'm probably bordering on being a nymphomaniac, except with that directed more at foreplay than sex. 'Yay'.

The different 'arty' things I've been interested in over the past few years includes: comics, sculpture, pencil sketches, designing board games, designing the next hot toy that will never get made because it would cost wayyyy too much to be worth it, writing (short stories and a novel series of which I finished the first book before deciding I hated the main character), poetry (mmm 8-beat poetry is teh win), customising (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/sharnofshade/fae4.jpg) my (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Img01011.jpg) My (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Cthulhupony2.jpg) Little (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Img01003.jpg) Ponies (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Shaed/Img01114.jpg), Waxwork and woodwork, and some messing around with photography.

Woo, long, and full of pointless stuff. I'll cut it off here, I think :p

I'm Pri. Isn't that exciting?
I spent the first 14 years of my life in Durban, South Africa. We (we being my parents and older brother) left after our car was stolen for the second time in a few months. And we'd find footprints in our backyard... So yeah, basically it was very unsafe. We moved to Sydney in 1998. I love Sydney. It's a gorgeous city, and very much alive. I went of a couple of schools before I settled. Looking back, I think I was actually depressed.

Anyway, I settled into a public selective school (the same one as Helennia :) ) and made friends and all that stuff. I finally decided that I really wanted to get into medicine when I realised that the only other thing I really wanted to do, arts, didn't offer me too many career options. So I'm doing a degree in Medicine ANd Arts. I didn't get in in Sydney, so here I am, in Melbourne, living in a tiny tiny studio and working in a cafe.

Ooh, I have a gorgeous boyfriend. We've ben together for two years, but he lives in Sydney. *pout* And my parents hate him/us, which often makes me very sad.

My full name is Christopher Ryan Kairys, and I was born on the 13th of May, 1986. This year, my birthday falls on a Friday the 13th, which is cool. I turn 19 this year. As for my background, i'm a mix of Lithuanian, British, German and Irish. My parent's middle names are Mary and Joseph, which is also cool.

I was born in Adelaide, Australia. I lived there until I was 4 or 5, and then moved to Perth. I started primary school there, and it was good. At the age of 11, I moved to Melbourne, and I endured about 4 years of hell, through a shitty public primary school, and shittier catholic primary school (Not because my parents are religious, but because it was really the only alternative), and cruddy catholic high school (which I nevertheless remained in until I finished). That was a pretty low point in my life, but it improved somewhat late in my 8th year of school.

I was baptised and confirmed a Catholic, but i'm a Deist with agnostic leanings. My confirmation name is Anthony, which makes my initials C.R.A.K. :D

Politically, i'm a libertarian leftist. That's the best way to describe myself, because I don't totally agree with any theory that I have currently read up on. I originally formed my beliefs when I was about 13, and began questioning why the USSR was bad, did some reading, and found that I quite liked the idea of communism. I then became an atheist and scared some of my teachers. My real political awakening came when I was about 16 and began to post on a far-right internet forum, and found myself disgusted with some of the attitudes out there, but realised that the USSR was basically no different to much of what they were advocating... Gradually I began to see government as more and more of a bad thing, abandoned strictly adhering to Marxism and got to where I am today.

I'm currently at Monash University, in my second year of studying Arts, probably majoring in Politics. I've decided that I probably don't want anything related to it as a career (while the course itself is interesting), however I have no idea what else to do. I'm considering transferring to Law or Economics, but I remain indecisive. I can speak a little French, and a little more Japanese, which i'm barely conversational in, though I have trouble reading it. Once i'm done with study, i'd like to move to either Britain or Japan. At this point in time, i've never been overseas.

When I was about 16, I discovered music and began to play the guitar. I suck at it, but I bought a huge amp yesterday, and i've discovered that I have a penchant for rattling windows and scaring neighbours with it. I don't play in a band, but i'd like to, just for kicks. My absolute favourite bands are Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine, The Doors and Kyuss. I sketch (poorly) and write sometimes. The rest of my spare time consists of playing computer games, the internet, and some getting drunk on the side. I don't particularly like watching TV, except for Red Dwarf and some other comedy series'. My favourite movies are the first Jurassic Park movie and the original Star Wars trilogy. I work part-time in a supermarket, and earn between $100 and $300 a week.

I like all animals, no matter how ugly. I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback (dog) named Nelson, and a transsexual cockatiel named Wally (IE. I found out later that she is actually female, when she laid an egg) who likes to chew my hair.

I'll eat almost anything, with the notable exception of pumpkin, which makes me gag. I particularly like seafood, except for shellfish.

I often flip between extroverted and introverted at the drop of a hat. I can often be very timid and withdrawn around strangers, but sometimes i'll randomly forget all that and make friends with anyone.

Um, anything else? Oh yeah, I fell off a motorbike once, but I landed in a soft sand dune without injury...in fact, i've never broken a bone in my body. I'll probably think of more interesting stuff that skipped my mind later, but I doubt anyone will be really interested in reading it :p

There, that's me.

EDIT- Oh yeah, and I taught myself to read at the age of 4 or 5.

Born in 1985 in Watford, a outskirty bit of London, and lived in a village the other side of the capital till i was 2. Parents then bought an old victorian school for our new house and started doing it up. it took till i was about 10 to finish the place, but it was a fantastic (and massive) house. It was in Winchester, very posh and small town (30,000 people-ish), and it was there that i went to a private primary school called Nethercliffe. There, i had one awful teacher called Mrs. Falkingham who used to shout at me and call me stupid for no reason whatsoever, and this totally knocked my self esteem. i was also quite dyslexic - writing backwards etc - and all the kids used to call me thick for that (except one who was also dyslexic... he died in a motorcycle crash last year :( ). i was put in special classes and did extra-curricular classes to try to 'overcome' the dyslexia. thankfully, over a few years it worked and i no longer have any troubles with reading/writing, but i still have problems with patterns - i still don't know my times tables, for example, and i'm awful at maths and musical theory. anyway, i got better as i went up the school, eventually becoming one of the top students, finally winning class prizes in the 6th (final) year. i also used to swim for the Winchester Penguins swimming team, untill...

...We moved to Southampton. This fairly large city (300,000-ish) is a 15 minute drive from Winchester, and we moved there because i passed the enterance exam to a selective private school called King Edward VI School (KES), which we now lived about 2 minutes down the road from.
Basically spent from the age of 11/12 to 17/18 there, getting 11 GCSe's (6 A's and 5 B's), and three A-levels (Economics, A; Biology, C; Chemistry, D) and AS-levels (Physics, B; ICT, B), also earning a Duke Of Edinburgh Silver Award. My mental prowess peaked in the 3rd year, being one of the top students in the school - a suprise turnaround after having been put on report for most of the previous year. Towards 6th form i stopped caring about much, and the grades slipped. In the last year of school i started my current love affair with marijuana, and threw up at so many parties i don't remember them all :)
I still swam in Southampton, for the local "Dolphins" team, but only till i was involved in a pretty bad car crash on valentine's day when i was 11, and then i caught gastroenteritis from capsising a boat near to a sewage outlet on Southampton Water :(. So i didn't swim for months and couldn't get back in to it, and dropped it. Shame because i was finally being invited to national (and even one international) Gala's.

So with my A-level grades i applied to Cardiff Uni to study Economics. I only got 280 credits and i needed 300 to do the course, but they let me in anyway! w00t! Last year, studying economics, was shit. The subject is so very maths-orientated at degree level, and so very abstract. I couldn't get on with the subject, got very depressed and subsequently became a total pothead. My attendance at lectures and seminars was 0% after the christmas break, but somehow i managed to pass 4 out of 6 modules that year! Still failed the year, but that's not bad...

So now i'm studying Politics. I like it much more than last year, and this year - 2005 - i'm feeling happier than i have in a long time. Things still aren't fantastic, but i know how good i've got it :). i'm lazy and never do the work properly, but i certainly do more than most of the first years on my course, and thats a good thing. i swear my friends don't really like me & take the piss out of me behing my back, but maybe that's a bit of paranoia/social anxiety creeping in, i dont know. i live in a student rented house with 3 others: my mate from back in KES, Simmons (Simon); a friend i met last year doing Economics, Jimi; and Jimi's (Russian) girlfriend Marina.

Hobbies: few, to be honest. i don't really have a life :(. no girlfriend and i have pretty much severed all ties with the friends i made last year (not sure why), so i only really hang out with my housemates and a couple of other people now. i like watching movies and tv shows (love comedies), getting high, videogames (i'm a real casual gamer nowadays), and messing about on this here internet.

Since i was 16 i've had my own Graphic Design company, effectively employed as an artworker (preparing stuff for print), actual graphic designer, website designer, technological manager - a jack of all trades really. it's earned me a fair bit of dough, most of which i have spent on my vast (400+) DVD collection.

I don't really have a plan for my life. There are so many things i think i'd like to do, but nothing i think i have any real chance doing. I'm increasingly of the opinion that i'm going to end up living on the streets until i can get my brain in gear :(. The really annoying thing is that i do work, for uni, but i could put in so much more effort, but i'm too lazy. i'm getting 56% and 69% in essays and tests as it is (40% passmark, 70% is a 1st class degree) - i wish i could motivate myself to put in the extra effort as i'm sure it'd pay off, but i just can't be bothered. ah well...

fuck that is a looooong post... sorry.

edit: forgot i play guitar (just for fun, been in one band), and i enjoy writing but have essentially had writers' block for about a year solid now.
Politically, i'm similar to Kanabia. i started liberal as thats what parents are, questioned about communism, was attracted to the ideal, swung round far-right, and now am comfortable being liberal again. i have some pretty extreme and radical thoughts (arguably highly leftist, but not necessarily so) but i don't put any importance on them because i know there is no point in trying to change the world.

muscially, i like rock. anything from Cream & Zepplin to Sepultura, Bolt Thrower and Machine Head. Used to be a metalhead through and through, but i've come to love and appreciate the classic rock on its own merits. i'd like to get into jazz in the near future.

Um...

Anyway, I settled into a public selective school (the same one as Helennia ) and made friends and all that stuff.

I realised I put in a lot of facts, but not much random actual interesting stuff...

I like reading, writing fiction and poetry (which I usually rip apart after I've written it out of embarassment). I cook a bit, sometimes more successfully than other times...

I play the guitar, and have done since I got a guitar for my 16th birthday. I'm pretty shit, but it's more of a therapeutic thing. I listen to a strange assortment of music, mainly of the rockish variety. From Queen to Cat Stevens to Rammstein. I also like Tricky, Asian Dub Foundation and Cypress Hill.

Politically? I'm leaning towards anarcho-communism, although I'm still finding my feet there.

Um... um... I used to be able to speak decent Zulu, French and Afrikaans, but now I suck at all of them.
Ooh, I have a crush on Johnny Depp.

I'm currently helping a drunk friend with microbiology...

Ooh and my major at uni in Arts is going to be Gender Studies. :)

cruddy catholic high school (which I nevertheless remained in until I finished). That was a pretty low point in my life, but it improved somewhat late in my 8th year of school.

Last days at a Catholic school is a massive Piss up ive heard.

I was baptised and confirmed a Catholic, but i'm a Deist with agnostic leanings. My confirmation name is Anthony, which makes my initials C.R.A.K. :D

I might get round to that maybe Barnabas or Elmo or Edmund. ;)

I'm Karen, I'm 21 and have lived in the same place all my life, which is just outside Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Politically, I'm pretty right-wing on certain issues (such as crime) but pretty liberal about most things (euthanasia, abortion, etc). I personally have quite high 'moral' standards, but don't care if other people don't - it's not my position to judge or be critical (it's not anyone's, in my opinion)! I believe that everyone is entitled to believe as they wish, and tend to expect that others will extend the same courtesy (ie. they will let me believe as I wish as well). In relation to Northern Ireland politics specifically, as some may know, I'm mildly in favour of a united Ireland, but still remain happy as part of the UK and ultimately don't care what happens as long as it happens via democratic and non-violent means.

I'm an atheist, and have been since I was in my late childhood. I was brought up to believe in God, but even when I did believe, I still questioned the possibility of God's existence and what was said in the Bible. I don't remember what changed my mind in the end, but I suppose that, gradually, the questions I had must've outweighed any beliefs.

After seven years at a primary school at the end of my street, I went to grammar school in a town a few miles away, where I met two people (both males!) that remain my best friends to this day. I took A levels in English Literature, Politics and Spanish before going to study Criminology at a local university (I still lived at home). The degree course was crap but I got through it and am in the first stages of a PhD, though I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that it was not a good idea to undertake it...

I've been with my boyfriend Alan for almost two years, and tend to spend most weekends staying with him - he only lives a mile or so from the centre of town, so there's always something to do. I like pubs, theatre, rock gigs, occasionally cinema, reading, writing and mucking about online ;) Favourite music includes the likes of Queen, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Zeppelin, The Who, Bowie etc. I really love my PS2, especially games such as Manhunt, GTA and Hitman (there's a definite trend emerging!).

I've been to the USA three times - most recently last April to California with my boyfriend. Also been on several holidays to parts of Europe (the best of which was a trip to Barcelona - since I speak some Spanish, it was cool to be able to use it), but would love to go to Australia, South Africa and Egypt.

No idea what I am ultimately going to do with my life, but at this stage am taking each day as it comes and letting the future worry about itself. I don't want to ever have children (that's the only definite thing at this stage) and would like a fulfilling career and maintain some semblance of my social life, but other than that I'm not terribly fussy ;)

God, that was long *yawns* Sorry, people!

i wont start typing. you dont want to know me.
Aaawww, come on, sick puppy, spill the beans. :D

Anyway, my name is Ulf Christian Maria Köhler, i was born in Saarbrücken, Germany on January 22, 1971. My heritage is german with irish, russian and french mixed in. As i was four my parents divorced and i moved with my mom to Lüdenscheid, a industrial city of 100.000 and we lived with my grandparents. This influenced me strongly; my grandfather was dealing in antiquaries, books and art, my grandmother was a former teacher for cooking and general household stuff. As i was schooled i could already read, even old german print type (we had wonderfull old fairy tale books and my grandfather got bored of reading them to me), and do basic chores in the household. My mother wasnt there most of the time, she worked as a nurse and had changing shifts. Later we moved to Solingen, the knifemaking city, for five years, only to come back once my mother got another job. All the time i stayed with day-care families, some ok, some pretty fucked up. As we got back i was a problem child, bad at school and constantly in fights. My mom got fed up and send me to a boarding school. I stayed there for the next eight years and really liked it, it was a strange mix of a very old traditional school form founded in 1543 and hippie ideals from '68. All was based on a pupils government, there were nearly no educators or pedagogues involved in the daily life once you were finished with school hours. With each year came more responsibility, till i was in charge of a room with six people, before being librarian, founded a tearoom, was elected advisor for our youngest (grade 7) and several other things. After graduating i didnt want to study but chose an internship at an advertising agency. From there i went some strange ways and wound up being a dtp-operator in a pre-press agency. I specialised in touch-up and print production. My mom died recently and now i have two dads (my stepdad adopted me), a sister and a brother, both younger but more successfull economically.

As for personality, i am self-reliant, in-your-face, loyal, caring, honest and nearly always in a good mood. Too bad i am also lazy as hell, a total slacker, no family person, cynic, despise my biological father, am prone to acts of violence and a total hedonist.
I play pen&paper rpgs for 20 years now, enjoy reading and cross-country mountainbiking, do sword-fighting, am a information-junkie, a socialdemocrat, '69er skinhead, ordained reverend of the UCTAA, am into tattoos, soccer and beer and hear a vast range of music. I own 1/6th of a cool house in Herent/Belgium.

I'm Michelle. I'm 17 years old and I live in Delaware, which is in fact a state of its own (many Americans and others think it's part of Pennsylvania). I'm a senior in a private high school, where my favorite class is AP Partying aka BC Calculus. (We finished the curriculum and are having fun from here on out.) I'll be going to college in a few months. I want to go to a small liberal arts college in the Northeast, and I plan to double major in music and either math, physics or astronomy.

I'm a classical music snob. I spend a lot of my free time playing the piano, and I'm going through a big Chopin stage right now. I'm working on one of his Etudes in C# minor. It's tons of fun. I sing as well; but I don't enjoy it nearly as much as I love the piano. My current playlist consists mainly of Artur Rubinstein recordings.

I also spend a lot of time on various internet forums, my LJ (http://www.livejournal.com/~miss_padfoot), and other waste-of-time WWW sites. I read a lot for fun. In the fiction category I tend to go for fantasy and sci-fi. My favorite author is Terry Pratchett. In the non-fiction category, I gravitate towards political books. If they show an overt allegiance or argue for a particular point of view, that point of view will be liberal. Reading Ann Coulter always makes me mad. But the books I like don't always do so - for example, I enjoyed Political Numeracy last summer and The United States of Europe more recently. I also liked The President of Good and Evil and Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.

There's more about me, but I can't be bothered to post it, because I have to go to AP Partying.

My name is Eva and I live i Sweden. I´m 33 years old (the oldest one around here?). At the moment I´m listening to Queen, "Bohemian Rhapsody". The world´s greatest song?

I live with my husband. We´ve been married for two and half years. We´re very happy together. I work as high school teacher. Social science and history, that´s my fields. I like my work, to meet all my students, to learn from them and be able to learn them a few things.

In Sweden it´s winter, lot´s of snow at the moment. I´m having winter-holiday. The sun is shining and it´s actually quite nice outside. You reaaly should gp outside to have some sun on your face, but I´ll do that tomorrow instead.

Politically I vote left. In Sweden we have this big debate on socialism v/s communism. Can you be a communist today without shame considering all the crimes to humanity being done in old Sovietunion? I really don´t have the answer to that. But I think if Marx and Engels would have have been able to see what happened in the former Sovietunion they wouldn´t consider the political system as communist. I personally don´t believe in everything those gentlemen wrote and thought. I have my personal political theory.

That´s a few words about me. I could go on even more but I think you´d loose interest after a while. See ya´

My name's Rob Ensor. I get pissed off when people pronounce that incorrectly, so, in case any of you ever talk to me, it's "En-sore" NOT "En-zore" or "En-ser". Glad we've got that cleared up. I'm 19, 5'6", 60kg (130 lbs) I've got one brother (which is plenty), Dave, who's 21. Right now I'm at Leicester University (the proper one, not DM), in the 2nd year of a History degree. I have no idea what I want to do with my life after uni, possibly something involving music journalism, commercial pilot, or running a pub. Or all 3 :D
I was born in Nottingham at 4.24 am on the 14th August 1985, lived just outside Nottingham for the first 19 months of my life, when my parents moved to Essex. I, sadly, didn't have a choice in the matter, and was forced to move with them. That ranks in the top 5 worst things to happen in my life. Not much happened for the first 13 years of my life....well, not that I can remember anyway. Aged 13, I met my first, and to date, only, girlfriend. Happy days. Until I was 16 I was happy...then I split up with said girlfriend, one of my friends tried to commit suicide, and another continued to self-harm despite promising me not to and seeking professional help for it. That was around the point I started to hate people, and really not care about anything. That lasted until just over a year ago, when I met another girl. She's my best friend, and I've fallen in love with her :( She's been going out with another guy for three years, and so I don't have a chance. But she's still the best thing that's ever happened to me - she's shown me that I can open up to people and they won't just take advantage of me.
Now onto the random facts: not much to say really. Music tastes cover everything from prog, through rock, punk, ska, reggae, electronica. I tolerate anything but rap, pop (cheese) and R&B. Got my first bass guitar on Monday, so I'm currently having fun learning that. Rest of the house isn't having fun, but I am.
I'm exceptionally cynical, even compared to my friends, and I have a sarcastic streak several miles wide. Some people don't realise that I treat almost everyone equally (ie. like shit), and get offended by that.

EDIT: I forgot - my hair is cool.

No... you are NOT the oldest one here Fifilura,

I'm 39 for about eight more months at which point I guess that I will officially become middle aged. I don't feel it.

Born in Montreal, and have lived the bulk of my life in Ottawa with several notable departures. There was, for example, the time spent living in England in the mid-70s while my father was teaching at Oxford and Cambridge which allowed me to experience the British school system. I left home at 17, dropped out of the last year of high school, and worked a variety of jobs for the next decade - mostly bartending in Ottawa but also did things like camp out at Nickerson State Park and bussed tables for cash under the table at a little bar near Nausset Beach to let me spend a couple of summers in Cape Cod. My vacations back then were often just to jump on my bike and take off, like a cross-Canada trip to Vancouver and back.

Went back to school at 28, graduated with a major in business and a minor in Computer Science and started out building software systems for Satellite telephony, which provide me the opportunity to spend considerable time working in places such as Edinburgh, London, Atlanta, Baltimore, and a couple of places in California. Struck out on my own as a consultant about five years ago and have been at that ever since, these days mostly working on huge data warehouses for a major corporation. Happily married with two kids, and still have an old '56 BSA project bike - although it needs a fair bit of work to make it roadworthy again. Avid skier, although I let my instructors certification lapse a few years back. My most time-consuming current hobby is photography. Well that and video games... which of course I really only play because our six-year old wants to and deserves the company..... :D

My name is Nikolai, I'm from the Soviet Union. I was born in Arkhangel'skaya Oblast, I'm half Russian and half Bulgarian. My father was a Red Army officer, so we moved around a lot when I was young. Finally stopped moving and settled for a while in Moscow when my father transferred from the Army into State Security (KGB for you Westerners). I served for several years in the Army in my country. I was paratroop qualified, but I transferred out of the Paratroop units for an assortment of reasons; I'm a bit too big to be a very good paratrooper, and what goes on in the line units isn't always so pleasant. So I transferred into the Artillery Corps. After I got out, I moved to the US, where I actually live now, just outside of Washington DC. I box, it's my main sport, I've done since I was 7; I'm looking to turn professional sometime soon. Hoping to go back to Russia or to Germany to begin pro career, although I may move to England later thisy ear.

Some are just nicknames you would never guess, others make some sense (most people think my nickname would be Nik, many Americans call me by that; but Nikolai actually turns into Kolya).

I'm Charlie, an only child. I was born on April 8th, 1991 in Washington, D.C. where I resided for a few years before moving to the suburbs of McLean, Virginia after a man was shot to death on our street.

Here I grew up with my only friends being a younger boy named Peter, (who practically worships me now) a girl named Olivia, and three brothers who lived on a hill near our house. One was my age, one was older, and one was younger. I remember we played a lot.

When I was four, we left that house (it was too small) which I had very fond memories for (it was demolished in early 2003 to make way for the construction of a disgustingly ugly mega-mansion that didn't sell for a year and a half until a small family moved in) to our current home not too far away. I met many new friends who I still hang out with now, especially Devin and Jackson who are my best buds.

At about age six, I began researching the Titanic for several years, until about age eight. I knew more about it than some adults, and I hope to begin researching it more.

At about age eight I started playing army with my friends (who hasn't) and we were fighting the commies usually, or maybe the nazis. We were seriously out of sync with the current enemies of the state so we just took the villians of previous decades. While many of my friends said they wanted to join the army and stuff so they could shoot bad guys, I seriously did and still want to (more specifically, I want to join the Marines). I shoot guns too, and I'm a pretty good shot if I may say so (I kickass at skeet shooting). I'm one of the few teenagers to have shot an M1 Garand.

Now we reach 2005. I'm almost fourteen now.

The End...

... Or is it?

*stands up* I'm Jess, I live in Manchester (and always have done, so I'm super-Northern :p ) and go to Salford uni, studying "Popular Music and Recording" which sounds like a waster course but it really really isn't (honest)

I play bass in a band (we've got a mini-gig at the Old Pint Pot pub in Salford in May, only a 20min set, but you're all invited!! :p ). We play rock stuff (with huge prog influences)

I also play flute, guitar, piano and sax. I don't like the flute. I was forced to do Grades (Grade 8 at some point soonish :( ) on flute and that killed my love for it.

I have a small music obsession...

When I'm not doing something music-related, I'm asleep.

To make you feel better, Nikolai, Spanish nicknames are kind of weird, too. Do people call you Nikol?
Hylian Peoples
25-02-2005, 20:25
In America, no, thank God, that's a girl's name. I just get Nik or something like that a lot, and I just don't bother telling them my proper nickname is Kolya. Apparently those 5 letters are hard for Americans to pronounce. And just forget properly pronouncing my first name, much less my otchestvo....lol.
Oksana
25-02-2005, 20:26
How do you pronounce them?
Hylian Peoples
25-02-2005, 20:32
Well, most Americans tend to pronounce the "ik" like the German word "ich", or like your nickname Nick. Really it should be prounced like "eek", the i in Russian is....I dunno the proper word for it, but it makes a sound like "ee", not like "ih"...sorry, I can't think of a better way to describe it. And the Ya in Kolya is pronounced like the Ya in Yak (Ya is one letter in Russian, the last letter of the alphabet-it looks like a backwards R).

You're from Hastings TIN! Wow...I might be able to see your home on a clear day....well not right now obviously...Send my love to the Channel.

My name's Caroline, and I was born on the 25th October, '85 in London. I lived in Wimbledon for two years then moved south to the coast to a town called Eastbourne.
My dad's English, but my mum emigrated from Shanghai. But all my Chinese relatives who were in England are now dead.
My dad's a chemistry teacher at a private school so I went there from 2 and a half until last year, got 7A*, 2As, 2 and a half Bs at GCSE, and ended up with 2As, a B at A level and a B at As, just what I needed to do Law at Kings College London. \o/ Got rejected by Cambridge but didn't want to go anyway. But I'm taking a gap year...and studying in a private school in Dallas TX.
Present male contact then has been minimal...all girls schools are good for grades, bad for bfs.
I have an African grey, a white cockatial (who laid an egg too), tropical fish and marine fish.
I played lots of sports but my faves are tennis and archery. I'm currently learning softball, seeing I'm managing the varsity team.
I love reading, sketching, painting, photography, writing poetry, computing, plants....yes I admit it, theme parks and I want a motor bike. I used to play the cello and the tenor recorder. I can sing...but I've forgotten how to read treble clef >_<
I fell in love with law course.
Oh yea, I love watersports but suck badly....except at banana boating. I think I was blessed with the world's worst sense of balance: I can't ride a bike. On that line: when I tried to teach myself in-line skating last summer people were walking faster than I was skating...but I didn't have pads and didn't want to fall over, and didn't! \o/ But my ice-skating skills suck and when i went skiing my friend and I received t-shirts normally given to those who get injured! (I kept falling off the button lifts :/) But I still want to try motorbikes, cars are too expensive and useless in London. Maybe I'd be safer on a quad bike.....
I was brought up on computers, from little word game ones to the first type of computer to take floppies...the big black ones, through Treetop & 31/4 floppies, the first Windows and macs on. Everything I know about pcs is self-taught so on the programming side I'm not very savvy
I know lots of random information, making me pretty good at trivia...in fact I'm random full stop as anyone in real life will tell you. (In the middle of a break in a netball match "I wonder what the circumference of the circle is." I mean radius! Ah well) I can be pretty insane (I once did a dance in the rain so the sun would come out and we could play tennis) and once you start me laughing properly its difficult to stop, especially after 5 cups of apple iced tea (after which I laughed for 40min non-stop), funny topics are rare though...it takes something like the idea of my friend joining the zgerman cricket team to set me off. I'm a bit of a prankster...my friend and I were nicknamed 'The Alternative Sign Company' and managed to close the toilets in the 6th form house, due to the 8 day fire strikes. My personal speciality is turning motivational messages on their heads. :p
Um, anything else...single...have turned all applicants down, but seriously, I'm not interested in guys 4yrs younger than me.
Oh, I studied French, German and Latin, know a smattering of Italian and Chinese and I'm teaching myself Finnish, with a lot of help from some Finnish friends.
Finally, I spend an unhealthy amount of my time on RuneScape Hall, as I'm a mod there, not that I actually still play Rs.

My name is Dan I've been posting here for almost three years now, mainly because I'm bored all the time. I'm 17 and I live in Mays Landing NJ. I plan on going to Juniata College in the fall where I hope to play football as well. I'm also Agnostic mainly because I don't trust religions or the people who invented them. Cya later, I got to set up a date with my boss' daughter :D

My real name is Ian. I was born in Dublin on 1st April, 1986. I lived my first three years in Portobello, Dublin 8, near the centre of the city. Then I moved to Ranelagh, Dublin 6 and I've lived there since then. I went to primary and scondary school locally. I was bullied in primary school and alienated for most of secondary school (not their fault really; my classmates were mostly just nothing like me). I then went to Stillorgan College, Co. Dublin. I am there now, doing a course which I used to prepare a portfolio for art college. I want to study painting and/or photography. I love the course and I've made some great friends who continue to be good fun. On 28th January last I submitted my portfolio to the National College of Art and Design in Dublin 8. I will be told if I am in or not on 14th March.

My name is Tony, I was born 1/18/77 and raised in Minford Ohio, a tiny farm town. I played football, basketball, track while in hs. I joined the army @ 18 according to family tradition. I was an paratrooper in the 1-325 airborne infantry regiment 82nd airborne division for 5 years. Traveled to egypt, israel, and a few other places less publicly while serving. I was offered a spot in JSOC as an "international courier" but turned it down and didnt reenlist taking the advice of my older brother who went that route, and was hung out to dry in bosnia for 6 months bucause of it. I went straight to work for Nortel Networks and trained as an installation team leader for OC192 and optera networks (qwest Account) . 100 percent travel job just after 5 years of service wore me down after about 2 years of kris krossing the country. I decided to move to charlotte NC and settle down. I had saved up quite a bit of money, not spending much as everything was comped by the company and I worked pretty much 24 hours a day. I took my little brother (20) with me to get him away from his druggie buddies. He made the first step to quit using and detox with the help of my parents. He was the only one not to join the army @ 18. Instead he just went to community college and became hooked on too masny drugs to mention. Anyway, after living together in a great apartment for about a year, we both got married. My wife is a very successful realtor and I am a network analyst for a furtune 500 company. We bought a sweet uptown loft and loved walking to work and the cosmopolitan atmosphere but we sold it a few months ago to buy a big ass brick house inthe country over 5000 square feet on three wooded acres. I freaking love it at the new house. Sure I can no longer walk to the panther games, but I have complete peacefullness and a beautiful view. I dont have a yard as most yards go but I have my own forest. My land backs up to my next door neighbors lot which is 50 acres. It takes about 35 minutes walk through the woods to get to the next house. My favorite things to do are to build paths through the woods, jog, take walks with my wife, yardwork, really anything to get me outside. I like to build computers HTPCs and mod xbox's. I also play a little guitar, love good bluegrass music, good beer/ bourbon in moderation (usually) and visiting my family. My political views are not easy to explain, fairly conservative on some points but fairly liberal on others. I view all politicians with a little bit of healthy distrust, but I do believe that most elected americans really do want the best for the nation whether republican or democrat. I could go on but lets face nobody'y going to read this anyway.........

Sorry about the sloppiness.

My brother is happy, clean, married and has a baby on the way. He has a great magnetic personality and he loves music, so he got a job @ Muzak. He basically sells their music services. He's doing great. He quit using on his own and learned from his mistakes. All I did was help him to get away from the druggie atmosphere. IE while he lived with me there werent constantly drugs all around.

Hi! I'm a 21 year old student in Brisbane (east coast, 1200km north of Sydney), Australia. Just wanted to say hi to everyone and join the thread.

I read in our local Sunday paper today that there was a website telling tourists what to expect of modern Australia. Things like "G'day" being used in normal conversation etc. You know, Crocodile Dundee style and everything. Just wondered about other people's perceptions of our country. I know here we get lots of ideas about what other countries are like from TV and movies as well (mostly American).

Ooh, a thread with no random flaming and arguing!
Anyway...
My real name is Stephanie. I live in Vermont. For childhood, I don't know specific dates for events really, all I know is I was born in Galveston, Texas, and shortly thereafter moved to San Antonio. We moved from house to house for a while there, then my parents got a divorce and I ended up in Canada with my mom and grandparentas for a while. We all moved to Maine for a while, then my mother decided to move to Vermont for some reason. I never managed to get through high school, so I'm still here, although luckily for the both of us not living with my mother.

Whoo, that's too much typing.

Hee, my mom always says that. Funny thing is she wasn't born in Texas, and didn't even move there until she was 20, yet she speaks with a texas accent and is still obsessed with Texas culture and history and such...
I feel sorry for her. I think she really wishes she could go back, but I guess it's hard when she's pushing 50 and working in a supermarket to make ends meet since her teaching degree expired a long time ago...

It's supposedly one of the last days of summer here but it's still stinking hot. Pretty much 30 degrees at least every day. I start at university again tomorrow after almost 4 months off and my brain is still in a melted state from all the heat and sun over the break

I assume you mean 30 Celsius! You have to remember us Americans, and I think the British also?, still use the Fahrenheit system for measuring temperature. And, for the record, Houston temperatures in August average from 95 to 100 Fahrenheit, with about 80% humidity!

Yep, celcius.....hehe. 100 F is about 40 C??? I think..... We probably get a couple of days like that each summer. Usually feels hotter due to humidity too. Some days we're just praying for rain or a big storm to cool everything down. My little sister works after school in a bakery (poor thing) and worked our hottest days this summer. It was so hot, the couldnt put icing on some stuff cos it just kept running off. Our state government is debating putting air conditioning in all state run schools. The richer ones have it now, but not everyone and some classrooms are stinking hot with tin roofs and bitchumen all around the outside.

*GASP*!!! You mean some schools don't have AC?!!! AC is treated like a human right here in Houston! Every single school, home, public and private facility, and CAR, has AC here. Houston would not exist without AC!

Here AC in homes is getting a little more common, we have 2 big rooms in my house with AC. When it gets horribly hot my family (I live at home with mum, dad and 2 younger sisters) drag mattresses into those rooms to sleep. All your public buildings and shops and offices have AC. Cars.....well the newer ones do - thankfully I drive my parents cars which are both new-ish.

BUT the schools.........that is the big thing at the moment. I went to a Catholic private school (graduated 4 years ago now) and at that stage about 20% of the school was air-conditioned. Some of the rich private schools are all air-conditioned. Some states schools (particularly the ones in rural areas where its even worse!) have AC. But most have none.

My parents are both primary school teachers and teach in the Catholic system - which means they get some state funding, some school fees (but not much, its meant to be a Christian-type helping one another thing). Dad's school is in a wealthy area and one wealthy parent came forward and donated the money to have the whole school air-conditioned (school of about 500 kids). Whereas, my mum's school is in a VERY poor area and they have no AC at all.

Not to turn it into a political argument, but I don't think the people are happy that little kids are sweating in their classrooms while the politicians are in their air-conditioned offices with massive expense accounts. The charity idea is good but I think its time money was spent better over here. I guess a lot of people would say that about their country's politicians though.

You can get a student loan here too or a grant, or in some states like south carolina it's free as long as you keep your grades up in high school.

On another note, where would you say is a good tourist spot in australia.

No interest loan from govt that you let your tax returns pay for once you start earning over about $35grand.

Good tourist spots - let me tell you this - all over!!! I guess it depends what you're interested in. If you like beaches or rainforest or tours of like the "outback" and Ayer's rock. I live in Brisbane. Sydney's our largest city, then Melbourne, then Brisbane. I love Sydney, it's got a bit of everything. We get a lot of Asian tourists here in Brisbane cos it's closer. I could plan an trip of what to see in Australia and you would have to be here for months and months to do it all.

I'd love to check it out, I've been all over the carribean and love it but I know the extra $$ for australia would be worth it. Not to mention we had to have armed guards in beliz to prevent kidnappings.

Wow thats pretty heavy stuff. We're a little behind say the US. Like here in Brisbane the latest shock was a guy was bashed to death for his shoes last weekend outside a nightclub. We know this stuff happens, but it doesnt happen often here.

I havent travelled to many other countries. A few Pacific islands (Vanuatu, New Caledonia) and I went on a youth ambassadorship to France a few years ago, but I know I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I suppose like America, Australia is a country which has a bit of everything. Beaches,
mountains (although smallish really), desert, rainforest, cities, farms.

Things I wouldnt miss would be:
Sydney - city centre, opera house, harbour bridge, hyde park, the rocks, Blue mountains - outside Sydney, harbour cruise
Brisbane - city centre, ride up and down river, cafe culture areas, moreton bay and its watersports, islands and camping areas,
Gold Coast - 1hr south of Brisbane - surfer's paradise and lots of beach
TASMANIA - absolutely beautiful place and a lot of history there too. also home of the BEST chocolate factory in the world

Real name: Elric.
Born: December 15, 1980; Richmond, VA.

Lived briefly in Richmond, then moved to Bath, PA: 7 year resident. Moved to Lehighton, PA, where I finished grade school and went to high school. I was a "nerd" -- first in class, yearbook editor, etc. -- until my junior year, when I rebelled and pissed off the school administration. (This had much to do with my first girlfriend, a borderline personality who enjoyed convincing me she was trying to kill herself.) I dropped out of high school after my junior year. Never got a GED.

Fortunately, Moravian College was impressed with my SAT score. I spent two and a half years there, where I earned a B.A. in philosophy and mathematics. I also became involved in a variety of progressive protest movements, and went through a different kind of rebellious period. I decided that I no longer wanted anything to do with academia.

I interned briefly with the International Action Center in New York City, but they were too hierarchical for me, largely because their leadership was intensely set on a vanguard-party communist philosophy. Interesting people, but hard to work with. I went AWOL (skipped town without telling them) and screwed around back in Bethlehem, PA for a month or two. At the same time, I had started dating this girl... and sooner or later we got engaged. We both got work as customer service representatives for a cell phone company. Later, I told her I could support her while she quit work to finish her B.A. She wound up racking up a huge debt on MY credit cards, so I broke up with her. Bitch.

Five days before I broke up with Thespina, I met Erica. We hit it off immediately (and we are going strong still, more than two years later). She was/is a Ph.D. student in English at Lehigh University... I felt a little inadequate, as I was by this time waiting tables (couldn't take anymore long days of angry phone calls, no matter the pay). By some bizarre twist of luck, I received a VERY unexpected offer from Lehigh's political science department (considering I had never applied). I was given a stipended assistantship to begin the very next semester, and my academic career was re-launched.

The story gets short at that point: I received a Masters in political science last May with a thesis titled "Horrific Politics and the Politics of Horror." I now attend Rutgers University, working toward a Ph.D. in political theory, with minors in law and American politics.

Do you know me now?

Hi, my name is Nick Outlaw (And no, I didn't make the last name up.)

I'm 17 years old and currently live outside of the town of Hickory, North Carolina, which is about an hours drive north of Charlotte.

Throughout my life, I've been rather interested in most of the sciences, the main ones being Geology, Meteorology, Biology and Chemistry. Those are listed in chronological order in which I first became interested in them. I tend to jump around a lot, but my interests have settled down more as I've gotten older.

I try to amuse my self by collecting firearms, playing PC games (World of Warcraft is addictive...) and drinking large amounts of alcohol. (I'm a big guy, it takes a lot for me to feel anything, and that stuff is the main reason I'm browsing general right now.)

I work at a pizza place 20-25 hours a week, sometimes more, for decent money. I don't much like dealing with all the snotty rich people that I have to talk to, but I like the people I work with.

I go to a school called Fred T. Foard, which is only notable in two ways. A few years ago, someone strung up a deer on the flagpole at the start of deer hunting season (Which got us on Jay Leno, I heard.) and the guy from that truck commercial who says, "That thing got a hemi?" is one of our most distinguished alumni.

Our school motto is, "Get 'r dun!", it's even printed on the T-shirts.

I've never had a girlfriend in my life, and this year is looking to be more of the same.

I might go to college after high school, maybe not. But I do know that when I'm done with my schooling, I'm joining the marines and I'll probably be a lifer.

Well, that's all that you could possibly know about me if you had the strange desire to know anything about me.

My name is Kim, and I'm an alcoholic.

(This is where you all say, "Hi Kim!")

I was born on March 7th, 1983 at 9:56pm in Spencer, Iowa. The doctor who delivered me had chili for dinner, and my mom went into labor right after watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

I lived on a farm with my family (my mom popped out another spawn 5 years after me) until I was 18, then I moved to Ames, Iowa. Me and my parents were not really speaking at that point because I decided doing numerous drugs and getting beat up by my boyfriend was funner than being at home.

I failed out of ISU, went to DMACC, got a two-year degree. Graduated in August 2004, moved to Minneapolis a week later.

The love of my life dumped me a month ago. That was pretty traumatic, but now I am just kinda whoring around trying to get over it.

I got a new job which I am starting tomorrow. Hopefully it will be good stuff. :)

Yep. Thats it, if you need more details I am more than willing to share.
