Where the hell are you in real life. All the girls around here are extremely boring.

I just want all of you to know that there are plenty of guys out there who are just looking for an intelligent girl. Like me.

You said you had trouble finding ‘intelligent’ women, that they were all ‘boring’. I was just wondering where the connection between ‘boring’ and ‘ intelligent’ lay. I know lots of boring people, but they’re just as intelligent as me.

And in actuality, the term ‘intelligence’ seems to be used loosely by most people. :D

Just because a person doesn’t have anything to say doesn’t mean that they lack intelligence. I don’t see any connection between that and how smart a person is. People tend to have trouble interacting with people who are different to themselves... but anyway, I don't want to hijack/spam your thread. Just pointing that out.

that has got to be one of the most craptastic definitions i have read for awhile, using a word to define itself. Doesn't really answer the question, but makes it seem like it does, makes it a psudoanswer, appears to have the properties of a correct definition, yet really isn't.

And what is intelligence? The ability to learn/store information. Something which we all posses… so therefore, by definition of that, are 'intelligent'.

I am unintentionally making a lot of enemies with this thread, but to me, the brain on a girl is far more important than the physical attributes. I am not looking for a girl of my intelligence, I am looking for girl who shares my interests. You need to get to know people really well before you can even start to comment on their ‘intelligence’. I've been quite surprised in the past by people I've gotten to know better over the years (and who others might consider 'dumb' after a brief conversation with them).

Anyway, you are more likely to consider people who are like you 'intelligent'.

Would intelligence be an important subject then? Or how you would emontionally scar her by leaving her for a better lookng person?

There are some physical attributes that matter to me, not all that you mentioned, but some. But in finding someone interesting, there must be a level of intellect. While physical attributes may be a deciding factor, a lack of intelligence is a straight deal breaker.

Anyone who argues that physical attributes don't at least play a role is lying. However much you try and avoid it, your first impression of someone is formed based on their appearance, and it sticks. I agree that once you actually get to know someone, intelligence/shared interests/sense of honour/personality or whatever has more influence, but whether you'll bother to get to know them can be decided on by your first impression; by their appearance. I'm not shallow, I'm just pointing out that everyone has an element of shallow-ness to them. It's human nature.
Unless you're blind.
Or... something.
And to go back to this thread's original point, yeah, there are alot of attractive girls on NS, and I'm sure most of them are genuine. But some of them are clearly fat, balding 40 yr old man. If you want to meet intelligent girls, then you should be looking at politics clubs, debating societies, and places where brains are used. That doesn't mean that you aren't intelligent if you aren't interested in politics or debating - those are just some of the places where girls with brains hang out. I know, from personal experience. Also, depending on age, you might want to try the campuses of good universities, which are selective upon intelligence. You have no idea how many guys trawl around Cambridge looking for us!

Anyone who argues that physical attributes don't at least play a role is lying. However much you try and avoid it, your first impression of someone is formed based on their appearance, and it sticks.

Which is part of why I dress in ways I like rather than following fashion. Becuase people get information about someone by looking at them style of appearance can be a badge or billboard showing parts of the wearer's personality.

Another thing: women in London tend not to be rednecks. If that's your thing, try Yorkshire or Essex.

I'd call myself fairly intelligent. For my age, definitly. I'm the cleverest in the year based on my grades from exams and coursework and am A Level standard at some of my subjects when I'm only 14. I live in West Sussex, England.

But then I'm far younger than you, as you can see. And taken anyway.

I can understand preferring intelligent girls, I prefer intelligent guys. But I don't dismiss people based on it and I can appreciate different talents from different people, whether academic, musical, athletic etc

in my experience, the number of attractive, intelligent, interesting males far outweighs the number of attractive, intelligent and interesting females. female are, on average, far more immature, far more willing to bank on their looks, and far more likely to have deadly dull hobbies.

as a result, a pretty, smart and fun girl has very little trouble finding a good guys to date, so the number of pretty, smart, fun, and AVAILABLE females is almost nil.

which is pretty much the reason i gave up trying to have relationships with women...it's easy to find a hot girl who will hook up with you, but it's ludicrously difficult to find one who is also worth talking to, and still harder to find one who won't try to change the way you dress or make you stop playing PlayStation. most girls are fun in small doses, but impossible for anything serious or long term.

Yep. I've nothing against IQ tests, I just think they make up a tiny part of how you judge someone. People are far too focused on academic things-schools revolve around passing exams and getting good grades. It suits me really because it's my strength but I have so many friends who are amazingly talented or have unique skills in empathising for example and stuff like that isn't recognized at all.

you know, now that you mention it, that's one thing that women are much cooler about than men: women seem much more willing (on average) to try new music. guys i meet seem to take any criticism of their CD collection as a direct affront to their masculinity, while girls tend to be like, "yeah, i know Avril sucks, but i can't help it." chicks have tended to be more willing to at least TRY listening to new music, which is very cool of them.

it is and it isn't. i personally believe that nearly everybody is on the "spectrum" of sexuality, and very very few people are really ONLY straight or ONLY gay. i think there are plenty of people who could be bisexual, but because of upbringing or environmental pressures in their life they choose to be exclusively straight (or exclusively gay). also, i think people feel more comfortable fitting into one niche or another when it comes to relationships, so they know what the "rules" are supposed to be, and bisexuality pretty much sets that rule book on fire.

either way, it's certainly not just like flipping on a light switch; i was being glib in how i responded.

I'd agree with that too. While most people I know have poor taste (IMO), girls are much more likely to be open-minded whereas guys will be very defensive about their music.

Can't you use words or phrases like 'on average' or 'generally' because that's a rather sweeping statement saying that women aren't educated and listen to what they're told to. I know I certainly don't fit into that. I'm educated and half my music is underground, truly underground. And most guys (see the use of the word 'most'?) I agree with most of the stuff that's been said here, actually. I think in general, guys have better music taste than girls, but yes, girls are generally more open to criticism of their music and open minded to other types. I agree that to insult a guy's music is likely to be taken as an insult to his masculinity. I agree that few people are exclusively straight or gay... but I'm not going to pick at that because it's quite a raw subject for me atm. I don't think this is a very politically correct thing to say, but I think that alot of relationship issues now stem from pressure upon the guy to be dominant, and pressure upon the girl to be all things. It mostly comes from the media... I don't know, what do you guys think? Do you feel that there's an expectation on you to behave in a certain way when it comes to dating? (Particularly with the opposite sex, I mean, although not to rule out single sex relationships).

Do you feel that there's an expectation on you to behave in a certain way when it comes to dating?

I would say so, yes.

You're supposed to look good and be sexy etc but at the same time you can't be shallow and can't make an effort simply for a guy. You have all the traditional dating things about guys making the first move yet you also have the more modern influences of the new man and women being more dominant perhaps.

And men are supposed to still be tough and masculine yet at the same time be in touch with their feminine side and be able to express emotions. And they have the traditional things to follow about politness yet if they do they can get shouted down for trying to control or patronize a woman.

I don't really follow any expectations though, well, I don't consciously change to follow them. I like having a feminine side and a sexy side but that's partly 'cause I feel good about myself then and it boosts my confidence. I don't feel like I'm lowering myself by wearing tight tops for example. But I don't change who I am for men, not for anyone for that matter. I make the first move if I want to, can be forward, can take control but I do also like romantic gestures and I also like a guy who can take control ;) And then I like guys who are a nice mix and are secure enough with their masculinity to show their soft side.

Glitziness, you mentioned that Bottle was the first person you've encountered who shares the same opinion on sexuality.. You're not alone, I've found plenty of people who feel the same way. The fact that so many of my friends have now come out as bisexual is starting to validate that opinion for me. If, in three years, I graduate with a degree in psych instead of international relations I think I'll focus my studies on sexuality issues. It'd be fascinating.

On the issue of men liking purely intelligent girls? Some folks have brought it up but I wanted to throw in my opinion that whatever guy says he's looking for "just" a smart girl is full of shit. Someone said it properly when they said that there's not so many pretty and intelligent girls. I'm not stunning, by any means, but I do, at least, know my ass from a hole in the ground. Gah I hate being introverted. The only time I attract guys is when I'm dancing, when I don't care what others are thinking.
3. What is 'an interesting hobby'? What I find interesting you might find boring. I like archery, you might like football. We would find each other's sports mutually boring.
4. Why are 'computer games' a male preserve? I just think men are more likely to spend the insane amount of money needed. Plenty of my friends Stateside have consoles. I would just prefer to spend my money on books, clothes and other things.
5. Music. Ok, I resent the 'you only listen to pop.' It's like me saying 'you only listen to heavy metal.' The last cd I bought was 'the Dark Side of the Moon,' but I don't just like classic rock, I have artists most people have never heard of. Yes I sometimes turn on the radio, but I get sick of hearing the same 5 hip-hop, 1 Britney/Christina and 1 rock every hour, so I turned to classic rock stations again. In England I listen to it a lot, but that's 'cos I crave variety and not necessarilly 'cos I like all the music.
6. Define 'pretty.' No-one is pretty 24-7, 365 days a year. With some people it's the body rather than the face.
7. Wtf is a 'red-neck' anyway?
8. Cambridge is biased against private schools. And it's the dampest place in England basically. It's better than Oxford imo, but I really wanted to go to London so I'm glad I got KCL.
9. London is a big place with very different people. And it's not a place to live the whole of your life, I moved out when I was 2. "Come visit us in London, its less than two hours away....what visit you? But you're so far away!" <- the strange Londoner mentality.
10. <- is a nice number and I forgot what I was going to say.

At the moment, I'm doing a degree in International Relations with a minor in Psychology. I haven't quite decided where my priorities are yet as I'm only in first year.

Man, as much as I'd like to say looks don't matter I'll completely admit to be just as superficial as the people that piss me off. Then again, I'm a big mess when it comes to dating and guys. I hate romantic stuff. I'd much rather laugh then be serious. I haven't really found anyone yet who is the same way.

I replied to this....

Everyone's superficial to some extent. Better that you can admit it.

I think everyone goes through the big mess stage, even the people who seem to have it perfectly. You'll find someone, I know plenty of people who are the same way you described. There is hope :) Hm, I could carry on in this cheesy way but I won't for your sake :p

Of course it is, people never look at things the same that is impossible the same with agreeing on definitions people interpret things differently what is intelligent to one person is not intelligent to another, don't tell me that you have never heard that before.

Thats not perfectly true Aerou, I found you very attractive - but also intelligent upon talking to you. Im very happy I took the time to find that out.

However, the problem with finding girls who are attractive and intelligent is that they arent commonly found in the normal 'pick-up' spots. If you go to a club, expect to find a club hopping girl. If you go to a party, you can bet you'll find a party girl. The best women Ive met - Ive met in the most random places. Im not saying you can't find a great girl in a club or at a party - but if you take someone home from one of them places and both of you are looking for nothing but a good time then thats all youre likely to find. You won't find the most beautiful orchids at the florists - don't be afraid to look around a little. ;)

Once you talked to me yes :). But most guys don't really take the time to "get to know me" haha.

The best places to meet girls are places that you yourself are interested in. Like....if you're politically active you should volunteer (women love men who volunteer :), at least I do), or join groups that specialize in your interests (wine, travel, music etc...). Most of the time you'll meet women who are interesting and interested in some of the same things you are.

But women are only supposed to cook and clean! What could you possibly be doing in medical school?

Agreed. The clubs where I live are basically expensive meat-markets where it is impossible to actually talk over the music, therefore the only way test a girls intellignece is by either: getting them to fill out a questionaire, or putting various 'problems' in their path and studing how they overcome them. Because of this I try my best to avoid 'clubbing' as they are just full of overly horney male-monkies looking for easy carnal goodness (god I love the English langauge :D ).
As for random places, I met a lovely intelligent girl halfway up hill in the middle of nowhere.

Would you feel better if you also were tickled?

Cook? I suppose if I read the directions I'd be alright with the microwave. My unemployed roommate is my kitchen bitch.

So you're Bitchkitten and she's Kitchenbitch? A match made in heaven, I do declare!

im a chick...and im smart. i know i am. i dont need a dictionary definition to tell me what intelligence is. intelligence to me means being articulate, insightful, and an intellectual. anyone with a peanut for a brain shouldnt have to ask what someone means by 'intelligent'. or am i wrong... nah, i think i pretty much meant what i said. hope not to offend. :)

I hate the sterio types you guys put on girls that are entertained with computers and demanding games like this one. All computer nerds aren't ugly. Well some are and they make up most of the computer nerd population but there are some good ones out there!

 I don't know how mant stereo-types there were, I mean - no one will deny the hottness of a particular group of the NS's most beautiful girls.

But if youre as hot as you say, and concerned about it, post a pic and shatter the stereotype a little further. :D

Im sure Im only a small faction of a much larger group who'd love to see that. ;)

Well, somewhat, I go from funny to braindead inbetween 12 and 15 beers, so if I am really slammed the only intelligible words will be swear words, and I would not consider it a good post.
