would one on the shoulder blade hurt? I just migt have too much fun with it then, and about how much would it cost? not too many places around where I live.
what hurts is when they have to go back over a spot that they left off on an hour ago. also if you have multisession tattoos about two weeks apart they hurt more if it one or near areas already tattooed because you aren't completely healed(don't do sessions less than two weeks apart). solid work hurts more than shading, not just because you're putting more ink down but also because its much more likely the artist is going to have to go back over it, either later in the session or in the next one. my warhol hurt much worse than my bosch because its all solid(also didn't really turn out as well, getting ink to stick consistantly like a silk screen on about a 7 by 7 area of skin is harder than you might think).

My problem is that I'm terribly indescisive. I have too many good ideas for tattoos, and have yet to apply even one of them. I have an artist who has told me that he likes my work, and hes amped to get some done - but Ive been a bit of a holdout for that "perfect" idea.
that is good, responsible action. trust me, it will happen. when you know, you know. you know? ;)

but for me personally, I have never seen a woman who I thought looked better with a tattoo than without. Nor a man for that matter.

I find good tattoos incredibly attractive on both men and women. Calf tattoos on men are.. wow.

I'm wierd like that.

i agree. just when i think it was really painful, i can't wait to go again. having elaborate, and/or dark tattoos takes a certain mindset. i think to myself, i am going to be doing this for the next ten years, fuck....but it looks so good, the end result, it makes it worth it.

Tattoos are a personal choice and I'm not suggesting that anyone not get them, but for me personally, I have never seen a woman who I thought looked better with a tattoo than without. Nor a man for that matter.

I do know many people who regretted getting a tattoo about five years down the road.
i know a lot of people with ones they regret, and more people with ones they don't . :) However, your thinking is not out there.... given the type of music i like and the general counterculture types i tend to associate with, tattoos are a common thing. but even within these people, i have met some guys who figure out how many i actually have, and are totally turned off by it. one guy dumped me after seeing the iron maiden one on my rear. on the otherhand, i know a lot of "normal "types, who are secretly into tattooed women, big time.

I think men can get away with tats more easily than women, in particular the bigger ones. Im not a fan of big tats on girls, or tats in certain areas. I like tastefull and artistic tats on girls though, and find them incredibly sexy! There are some girls who can pull off the bigger tats though - I once dated a girl who had a very large tat on her shoulder and since it suited her personality I thought it to be an amazing turn on. I guess thats the key, I mean, the right kind of person can pull off the right tat and it will work for them. I mean, can you imagine Princess Di with a tat of a bleeding skull on her wrist?

As far as mine go....

My fox from "The Little Prince" represents me. If you've ever read the book, you can kind of identify with certain characters and mine was the fox.

The Polish eagle is just to represent my home, and my heritage. I adore Poland, and I wanted a "piece of home" with me at all times, I suppose :)

Well, thats the thing isn't it - its like any art, and as such it has a specific audience. I think my tastes in tattoo artwork stem from personal experience, I try to avoid "cool" in almost all of my artistic styles (clothing, music, home - everything). Instead, I prefer to try and surround myself in things that I beleive reflect my personality and opinion. The tat's Ive drawn for myself are mainly drawn out of pure experiences or feelings that Ive managed to tap into - so wearing them, would not be so much to display an image as it would be about displaying an extension of myself. Maybe I put too much thought into it, and that makes it all the harder to decide on any one in particular. The thing is - I don't just want something that is so popular it has become stale or cliche - I want something that can stand the test of time on it's own merrits. I want art. ;)

Who'da thought a book like that would carry so much meaning?

Well, ask yourself, why do you want "art"? If it's because it reflects your personality and it would make you happy, then kudos to you. But there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting something popular or cliched if it still means a great deal to you.

No not at all, I didnt want to make that reference, in fact thats sort of my point. Its not stale or cliche by any standard if its reflective of you. If you are getting it however, because its popular, and it has nothing to do with you... then I'd have to say it's a mistake in the making.

Absolutely. I just wanted to clear that up. Every one of the designs that I want is something that I feel very strongly about. Some are probably cliched, like the Sox logo, but that doesn't matter to me, because it's still something that I identify deeply with. It's a part of me, regardless of how popular it is, you know?

Sort of not really. I mean, I root for them to win, but I don't eat, sleep, and breathe Bruins like I do the Red Sox. Boston is a baseball town, first and foremost, and it will forever be, no matter what our other teams do. Red Sox Nation is completely unlike any other group of fans for any team in the country.

My full back tattoo starts next month it's entirely drawn by me and incorerates much of my personal thoughts and feelings. There's a lot to it so I won't get into the details.

I'm also getting a four leaf clover on my wrist with a thirteen on it in old english letters. A tribute to my mom's old soap box derby car (soundsdumb but if you knew my mom you'd feel differently).

OK if you really want to know here goes.

On the top coming up and over are two koi jumping with sparkling water flying around them, one red and one blue. The blue one's tail is leaving off a trail of water, the red one fire. In the middle of the koi is a red and blue smoke bar spiral.

-This is based on a simple yin and yang idea but modified heavily. It's hard to explain but looks cool, and is representitive of my personality. Again if you knew me it would make sense.

Next is a large cypress tree on my mid-back with roots extending down into a pool of water that goes down my lower back.

-The cypress is for the best time of my life, my adventures in Mississipi, Lousiana, and Florida with my best friend and the girl I love. Funny thing is I know the rule about not getting tats for relationships, but I'm doing it anyway. My relationship with the girl is already over, but will never be forgotten.

There's a tiny gecko climbing in the tree, wrapped in the roots is a milk snake, and swimming in the water are two turtles (my pets). There's lily pads floating on the water and some cattails. The sky in the background is a rich blue.

The whole thing is pretty much representitive of random moments of my life, and there are a lot of hidden things in it that show that. The hidden pot leaf on the tree, the tiny grateful dead skull in the middle of the swirl (another tribute to my mom), and the small image of an old man sleeping at the bottom of the tree (who is actually my grandfather), are a few.

It's really hard to explain and you'd have to see the drawing, but I think I explained the gist of it. It's going to take years to finish probably (in part because of financial reasons, and also the complexity), but that's kind of the point. I have yet to find an artist who I trust to do it, but I've been looking into a few who look promising.

Haha, well, in that country anyway! You have to see what happens in Van-city when the Canucks are on a hot-streak, or worse, if they make it to the cup (they did in 94, and there was a riot when they lost that people still have bruises from!) Sox fans are different than other American fans. We're more like soccer fans in Europe and South America. The city lives and dies by the Red Sox. Whenever we're bounced from the playoffs, it's like JFK died again. And this past year, when we won the World Series for the first time in 86 years....

I got a small cross on my right shoulder when I first turned 18. It was partly because I was 18 and I could, partly because I always wanted a cross on my arm. Well, it's not big enough as I wanted it, so I'm having a family friend (discount will be great, as I'm a bit strapped for cash as of late) make it larger to encompass the better part of my upper right arm. I think I'm done after that; I had a role model when I was younger who had a large cross on his arm in that area, I just always wanted one just like him.

I pride myself on bein' nosy :p

EDIT: Oh yeah...I guess I didn't really ask...is that the size you want it?! cause if that's the real size...I'd say the price woudl be more like 250ish.

I don't have any tattoos, although I might get one if I find a design I like.

My partner designs tattoos sometimes, not professionally or anything, but she has gotten money for some of them. She's helped out a local tattoo parlor with design 3 times, and got paid 2 of them.
How did I know I would fiind you in here :D
So when did you become Pope of Canada and when the heck did we get a Pope? Geez I know I have been out of the loop for most of the last 3 years but really, you would think I would have heard about us getting a Pope! :D :headbang:

Here's a scary thought for ya'll! In 30-40 years there will be a buunch of saggy old people with partially visible tats showing between the folds of skin! :(

Do I really have to answer that? We're getting a weeee bit off topic here, no? I'll bring it back around.

Do you think you could give me an idea of how much my Sox tattoo might
cost?
iam not sure of the NE prices, but here, that, 4x4 inches would be about 250 bucks, plus tip- 10-20% prices are high here, though, matt

*bows down* *bows twice for the dragon on the leg*

That dragon took 6 weeks of 2 hour sessions.

I've decided that when I die, any skin that isn't tattooed will be donated to medical science, and I'll have a tanner remove the tatts and preserve them into a book for posterity to enjoy.

I've often thought about getting a tattoo, but don't really have many ideas as to what I wanted. I was thinking some kind of cross, possibly celtic, on my right arm, and maybe "Generositate" across the horizontal arm. Another idea was the words "Hold Fast", with a bloody dagger behind them. Not sure whether its viable, or even worth doing. What do the experts think?

are you inked or not?
Yes.
how many do you have?
four and a half
any in secret places?
Non-public, yes. Secret, no.
any in places that you can't keep secret?
No, everything is hidden with t-shirt and trousers. But that will change, eventually i run out of space. ;)
describe them if you want(meanings, also)
Ok, a grinning blue dragon with pierced ears, done graffitty style all around my right shoulder. I always liked dragons, but didnt want to get one that everybody and his grandmother has. Especially not one that looked like a menu card for a chinese take-away. So i was happy when i came across a comic, and the dragon that was in there really fitted me. It was cheerfull, loyal, had big paws and i liked the style. I only changed the colours from green and orange to blue and red.
On the left upper arm i have a cat-girl pin up that looks like she scratches the skin underneath. Meaning? I like girls, manga and dont mind a bit of scratching. ;)
My left ribs, from armpit to hip have a pic of the four elementals (air, fire, earth & water) being summoned from a magic scroll. I just liked the idea, no special meaning.
Then i came up with the idea of adding to the cat-girl piece and had "Eat more pussy" written beneath it. I hope this one is self-explaining. :D
Latest piece is a inhuman horned skull on top of a scroll (yes, like the SR logo for those who know it) with "Truth" and "Honor" written on the parchment. Because those are two basic principles upon which i build my life.
your favorite one?
Always the next one. Hard to say, but i'd say the dragon.
planning on getting some?
Some more, yes.

I have 6 tats. All original, all in places that can't really be seen unless it's summer and I'm in a bathing suit. My favourite is the one on my nations flag but I do love all of mine. The flag is one that I designed myself and I had my artist touch it up a bit for me. I have several geared towards animals and nature because I'm an animal lover. A paw print on my right pelvic bone, a lizard on my spine and a butterfly on my ankle; all with my own personal touches. I also have my daughters name on the back of my neck with a japanese symbol that means "forever" and when my fiance and I get married we want to get each others names around our wedding fingers like a ring. That's not very original because I believe Sully from Godsmack did the same thing but I think it's a good idea. Not for everyone obviously but it's something that he and I have been interested in for a while. I also have my brother's name because he and I are really close and he's one of my best friends. He has my name as well. None of them are too big, most of them are girly and I wouldn't change any of them.

even pamela andersen did it. who cares though. if you want it, get it.some artists say its not the best idea, because it looks like shit in a few years. hands are constantly exposed and have high surface content of fluid. find a really good artist, or maybe get a design, instead of the actual name.

Theres two things I'll say about tattoos.

1. Having an original work of art on your body, is kinda cool.
Provided it follows the following criteria:

1. it has to be one of a kind.
Tattoos that you saw hanging on the wall of the shop, are called "flash".
They are just there to give the customer an idea of what they want, and werent even done by the artist that will be doing your tattoo.
These arent cool, or original, and likely, the artist will not enjoy doing them as they dont let the artist be very creative....wich is why he became a tattoo artist in the first place.

2. Getting a tattoo to be different?
Think again!

Your not being "different" ....your being just like everyone else.
In my uptight, whitebread, conservative town, on the same strip-mall is a pizza place...a christian science reading room, a porno-store, and a tattoo parlor.
If the city I live in, wich has more churches per capita than any other city in the world, has a tattoo shop.....THEN EVERYBODY IS GETTING TATTOOS THESE DAYS.

So..your not being "unique" or "making a personal statement"...you being just like everyone else.

Bahhh....bahhh........*ahem*.....sorry.

I went into a Hot Topix the other day, and on the wall, and in a stackunder neath it, was a shirt that said:

"You laugh becuase I'm different, I laugh becuase you're all the same."

Sold in stacks of ten...on a rack..in a store.

I want a shirt that says "I got this tattoo to be different, just like everyone else."

It would make more sense than the other one.

are you inked or not? Yes I am actually.

how many do you have? 3 and planning on getting 1 more in a month.

any in secret places? Nope.

any in places that you can't keep secret? Not really.

describe them if you want(meanings, also) The one on my lower back is a pentacle with the moon phases going around it. It was my first tattoo and it is a symbol of protection and it honors the Goddess in the religion of Paganism and Wicca. The pentacle tattoo was based off of a necklace I have.

The second tattoo I had done is the kanji for Wolf. It has red surrounding the black ink, the red is coming out in spikes like a starburst design would.

My third tattoo is my most recent one. I haven't even had it a week yet. It's the kanji for Earth and it's got green surrounding it. Dark green fading into light green, but it's still in the same starburst design as the Wolf kanji.

your favorite one? Hmm... That's hard. I'd have to say my pentacle. That one was based off of my favorite necklace, and it was my first one.

planning on getting some? 1 more. I plan on getting the kanji for Moon on my left shoulder. It's going to have blue surrounding it in the same design as the other two kanji.

cool. i have a ?, and dont take it the wrong way, why are you getting kanji to represent things that are important to you? have you thought about broadening the creativity and originality of the tattoos, and artistically rendering them beyond a single symbol?or are you getting them based on the fact you like the layout and design of a single thing? :)

It's really that I enjoy how the kanji look. I've always been a big fan of Japanese history, culture, etc. Plus, the kanji don't take up too much space on my back and...

They're cheaper, not to mention a whole lot less painful than getting something that would require more detail.

One day I intend to get a Red Star done somewhere... Why? Becuase I can. I lot of people say that tatoos are a bad idea because you are stuck with them for life, but I see it as an advantage, it lets you but some sort of symbol on you that will never go away, so you can always remember "that's who I was then".

I have no tatoos, never could think of anything that I wanted on my body the rest of my life, beside, I never had any money for it anyways having already blown it on cars (currently own 5) motorcycles (3 right now) home theater equipment (need a good front projector) and a house (good way to always be broke, buy an old house)
when I was driving over the road, I spent alot of money on books to read, still do, way better form of entertainment that what passes for network TV these days, standing at the mall watching the scenery walk by is better than TV

just never could see having a particular piece of art put on my body, not at this time at least

Maybe I should spend some money learning to spell :headbang:
