First off, I really didn't read any of this thread besides the first page, so what I'm about to say may have already been said. In any case, personally, I think you ought to wait a few years before you start making judgements about the country. At age 13, you haven't experienced enough of the country, let alone of life itself, to truly make any significant, meaningful judgement about it. Your perceptions about the country as a whole likely come entirely from your own community, and from the media, neither of which is necessarily a reliable indicator for the whole. I only say this because looking back on things, when I was 13, I could honestly not have made any judgements. They say that wisdom is knowing you don't know everything. Every time I think I know it all, something comes along to prove me wrong. So while you might think yourself perfectly capable of making such a judgement, wait 5-10 years, see a little more of the country, and if you can, of the world as well, and then try and make a judgement. I think that the only way to fix America is to get the mothers (please take no offence if you are female, i am one also) back into the households. Now your argument, but we need two paychecks to support the family. No if you make smart desicions with your money and stop buying liabilities and buy more assets then you only need one paycheck. If the mothers in america stayed home the kids would not be obese because the mother could watch what food the child takes in their mouth. Then teenagers would be less depressed because they got attention from somebody (their mom). The america's are going into crisis. Stupid George Bush has concentrated so much on the countries that didn't want help that he has forgotten america.

My brother and sister are in rehab centers, one for drugs and self esteem and the other for self esteem. Thats americas next problem. Teens are terrible, their parents don't pay attention to them so they get out of control, they have no respect, or limits, they do whatever they want. This little kid needs to learn that the only way to fix this america is by getting the control back. It all starts young when the parents are at work barely supporting their young family with two paychecks buying liabilities and not paying attention to their young. I am in highschool right now, and it is terrible (terrible as in punishments given to disobediant don't work anymore, so they keep being naughty) I have heard that children in elementary schools are worse. The good teachers that we have that are dedicated are quiting and the kids get stupider. America is going to go through a revolution of some sort in the very near future (decades). The difference between the USA and, for example, Belgium, is that in Belgium the poor people get much financial support from the state (it's still not enough, but It's very good compared to many other countries). There's a very good social network, something you can't say about America. There's also much less criminality.

But in my many travel's i have heard ALOT of Praise for America. Ranging from Pakistan to Panama and Bangladesh to Zimbabwe. Speaking of my travels...:

My Story!(I cut it from My America Story Thread. Too lazy to qrite again :/)

I was born in Worcester(pronounced Whis-TER), Massachusetts, in the wee hours of December 18th, 1991. Some time in late January, I got on a Plane with my family and flew to Bangladesh. We stayed there till '93, then we moved to Zimbabwe. I don't remember Bangladesh at ALL!

My memories of Zimbabwe are few but good. Playign with transformers, hanging out at pools with my 2 year old friends, and havign a blast. This was BEFORE it went down the drain, mind ye, so life there was excelent fro people in the Foreign Service and everyone else. A few years after I left, Mr. Mugabe goes pyscho and ruins it. Anyhoo, back on topic. In '95 i go back to the states for a few months then go to Maputo, Mozambique.

My memories of there are better. I remember a GIGANTIC(and i mean GIGANTIC) house, a puny yard, nice weather, nice beaches, watching Jurassic Park for the first time, Ice Cream shops, crowded markets, and how every 2-3 weeks i would go on a day-long trip to South Africa to buy good's (the super-markets in Maputo were less than perfect). In '96 i left Maputo to live in the states.

For the year of '97-'99, i lived in the town of Springfield, Virginia. 'Twas a fun place, my first years of real school and i made many friends. That's when i discovered Mech Warrior's, Pokemon, and that the middle finger is a baaaaaad finger. In the summer o' '99, however, me grandpappy died so I had to move to my home-town of Auburn, Massachusetts(a suburb of Worcester). I stayed there 'till Jan 2000, when i moved to Islamabad, Pakistan.

Contrary to popular belief, Pakistan is a WONDERFUL country. The people are friendly, the food is good, the capital of Islamabad is one of the cleanest cities in the world! It's nicely designed, there isn't much poverty(that's mostly in the sister-city of Rawalpindi), the houses are good, and the parks are green. I lived at the foot of the great hills that are at the northern tip of the city, and the world's largest mosque was only 5 minutes drive down the road.

My years there were excelent. The school was top-notch, and I was exposed to more cultures than I imagined. I met Swedes, Brits, Canadians, Indians, Malaysians, Germans, Poles, Naicaraguans, Pakistanis, Irish people, Eritreans, Arab's, you name it, it was there. The school(the International School of Islamabad, or I.S.O.I.), was aruagbly the best in South Asia, and constant news of our sport's team trumping the other South Asian's(ranging from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Katmandu, Nepal) kept us in high spirit's. For me, life was good. That all changed on September 11th.

That horrible, horrible day marked the decline of the International School of Islamabad. After the attacks, GWB quickly ordered that all American's leave the country, which we did. I then spent the entire year until Jan, 02 in Auburn. I came back in January, but in March terrorists bombed a near-by church(killing two family friends) and causing me to leave Pakistan forever.

For the rest of '02 until summer '03, I lived in Jamestown, Rhode Island. It was a cool place, with nice houses. My dad went to the Naval War College(even though he's a diplomat. I don't understand why he went either) and got his masters degree. I played Baseball(i sucked. Big Time. But i had fun), i hung out with friends, i went swimming at the beach, and did all sorts of stuff. In June, '03 though, I took my latest journey: To Panama.

Now, Panama City is the most developed city in Central America, due to the fact of the 97 year occupation of the Panama Canal by the United States. Going down Balboa Avenue on the bay, passing all these sky-scraper's and mall's, you would think you were in any Southern American city if it weren't for the signs all being in Spanish. There are pool's, there are EXCELENT school's (the most notable being the Internation School of Panama and BAlboa Academy. I go to the latter), there is a Hard Rock Cafe, a gillion internet cafe's, and more. Life here is sweet.

Now, this is more like an autobiography, but meh. I'm, and American, and since I've gone EVERYWHERE in the service of my country, this is my American Story. Where will my story go from here? No one know's, but I can be sure it will have to do with America.

The rest of the world usually "bitches" around. I think "crap" means that we ruin economies and bomb weddings and pharmaceutical plants. These things happen, and if a real "policeman" would do stuff like that, he'd be suspended or something. The thing with the stingy is that the US tends to pay more than most other countries, but compared to what it could spend, the US is far outpaced by countries like Sweden. It's like a man with a thousand dollars giving another fifty dollars while a multimillionaire gives him 100. It's comparatively stingy.

Yes, I must admit that he put his point across in an eloquent yet concise manner.

I have been to Canada a few times. Not too impressed with it. The people were friendly but not anymore friendly then the people I have met in the Midwest. It was a fun place to visit but I don't think I would want to stay there. I think it would be a boring place to live. America has more excitement and I would never move away.

That's not true in my opinion. It seems you have a selective memory w.r.t. political topics. Americans, generally, are "nice people". However, Americans are not necessarily taught to shut up if they don't know: see the show "Talking to Americans", for example. Even if those Americans knew nothing about the topic of the question, they were ready to give their opinion. This is the "arrogance".

However, the point I've seen is that Americans are deeply hypocritical. It's easier for a minor to buy pot than alcohol. Another problem is truthfulness, which is apparently associated with stupidity. An "intelligent andsocially adept" person lies. It's acceptable to lie that the dog ate your homework or something - it's actually the STANDARD procedure. Especially in Finland we appreciate knowing a lot; in America, it's all right to fake it.

This "selfishness" is something associated with capitalism, I suppose. Did you see Ruben & Joonas, where this movie director told about the America he saw? "It's really a land of opportunity: they'll take the video tape, and watch it, and if it's good, they hire you. Whereas, elsewhere, they'd recruit [some of their own nationals] instead."

"Brownnosing" is the American word, I think, what you mean. Pointless subservience instead of actual skill is a problem common in many cultures. I've heard the same about the Chinese: leave a team with a task, and they do nothing, even if you tell them so. You should always be there and give strict commands what to do. It applies to Americans, too. I've seen how an American resigned from a job, because there was no "boss" America-style: the management gave the team the tasks, and then left the team to do the work. The American would've needed a boss to continuously oversee his work. The responsibility brought by the independence proved too tough to handle. Sad, really.
