The number of people who have contracted the HIV virus from medical proceedures, and involuntary sexual contact is most certainly not 'few'. I doubt it's a small percentage. I cant see how you could logically make such a proposition if you knew all the relevent facts.

We had a similar incident occur at the hospital where I work, but this happened to be a young intern....very sad...

As a "nurse-soon-to-be-doctor", its very scary to deal with patients on a daily basis, not knowing their full medical history, although I don't worry about it to much around here....but still... "safety first" heh...

I sure hope we fnd a cure though, its very sad watching someone basically waste away, and not being able to help them....=(

I guess the gist of this thread is (assuming it wasn't just posted to get people fired up - a distinct possibility) that sex outside of monogamous marriage should be punished by death, both for the offender and, if married, the spouse of the offender. It's insulting to see how unintelligent this thread has become in either an attempt to destroy its credibility or just get it closed. AIDS is not something anyone deserves. It is simply something people get.

First off, I do not believe in God. When I was younger, I believed AIDS was a punishment from God. Now I believe AIDS is an intriguingly adaptive disease. It is, essentially, only around because people are stupid. They take care of people with AIDS. They trust people who could have gotten AIDS. They perform questionable acts (drugs, prostitution, etc.) with people who have or could have AIDS. AIDS is one of the few remaining pieces of natural evolutionary killers in our society today. Things like cancer are not preventable in such easy ways - simply distance yourself from circumstances with the victims. If a man was bleeding to death on the street I would toss him my shirt and tell him to tie the wound off. I don't want AIDS. I'm not stupid.

My mother is a nurse. I am not supportive of her actions. I do not believe individuals should be forced to work on people with contageous deadly diseases if they do not wish to. It is her choice to operate on an invidiual who has or could have AIDS. It is her mistake, even.

Drunkenness is an issue in itself. If you are willing to get drunk then you are willing to be at the mercy of others while you are incapable of controlling yourself. It is like taking a sleeping pill around untrustworthy individuals. A mistake. If you are going to drink, drink around several close friends, not in a bar or at a frat party without any friends. It's a mistake and it shows if you get raped and contract AIDS. I have friends who have lost their virginity while drunken. It is their fault for getting drunken and the person's fault for taking advantage of them. That is just how our world operates.

Other times, if in public and are raped, you should have a weapon with you beforehand, even if it is only mace, or if it has to be a gun, well, so be it. And if you can't protect yourself, be with a group of individuals capable of defending themselves, or don't even be in a dangerous place in the first place.

The number of people who have contracted the HIV virus from medical proceedures, and involuntary sexual contact is most certainly not 'few'. I doubt it's a small percentage. I cant see how you could logically make such a proposition if you knew all the relevent facts.

I doubt it's a large percentage. 6,000 Africans die each day in Africa from AIDS (I believe this is the figure, averaged). I doubt most of them got it from blood transfusions in a medical institution. I doubt even over 1% get it from blood transfusions in a medical institution. If they do, please look the figure up and correct me; but still, I doubt, highly, that anywhere in the world, the percentage is over 10%.

If you want to contribute to the fund to stop AIDS go ahead. I believe it is futile to search for a cure according to how amazingly the virus changes and how it infects a person. Perhaps it is possible if people are simply more careful, if AIDS patients are treated with more caution, and blood for transfusions is screened more accurately.

I think the after-the-fact is a proverbial "oh well". Let the stupid suffer and try to save others from their mistakes. That is what I do for many other mistakes I have had in my lifetime. I wish to prevent others from doing the same - so I warn them. If I got AIDS, I would probably do whatever I could to prolong my life, and become an advocate for abstinence and caution.

The reason AIDS is here is because one day someone was infected with a virus that infected something else with a virus and so on and so on...
It's really a very simple virus to avoid. It's a lot easier to avoid than the common cold or West Nile.

But remember - viruses are not here to be cured *or* kill people. Viruses are here to capitalize on the human population. If the only way you could live was to kill another organism you may be tempted to do so. Imagine your body's cells as caterpillars, and the only way for your species to reproduce and eat was to infect caterpillars with your offspring. Some wasps are very similar to this. They lay their eggs on the caterpillars or another form of insect or spider that is paralyzed and their offspring eat them from the inside out.

virusses are also living things.. they are here to kill people.. (cause this is what their effect is on them reproducing !) people aren't here to make powerplants and cars too.. but we are still doing it.. we are here to kill them!

There are far more extreme unreligious advocates of death supporting things such as genocide of all humans and third-trimester abortions. People with religion are usually not weighted to the bad extreme. Now, not all atheists and agnostics are bad - many are good - but there are more than a handful that believe the world would be better off with everyone dead, or, at least, a lowered human population, if even by killing off many people. And Christians, regardless of how questionably Christian-like they are, usually don't believe this.
