For Lack of a Better Title...(Semi-Open FT OOC)

Unfortunately, in my last 2 RPs, I kinda disappeared and now they are asleep for an undefined amount of time. Due to popular vote, we shall start an FT (my first one ever!) and see what happens.

I think this RP will be shorter than my others and I will not be as involved (I will probably have a few NPCs and one actual char). This will also be a bit more restrictive in the fact that you can only RP on one side, unless you want to make an encounter or something to the likes, however your person on the other side must and will die unless you give me a good reason why he wouldn't get killed (that relates with story. I don't care if he is a fallen god or something but he will die and not take anyone else with him! lol) But anywho, to the part everyone is waiting for...

An independent scientist has gone to a far world on an alien planet with a team of mercenaries to work on an independent project that he hopes will better the future. This project is completed after many years and finally demonstrated to the people of that planet the power of his machine by powering up their entire world with the energy of his new device.

These aliens are split into civil war over a variety of energy needs and lands that support those energy needs. So when this is presented to them, they become united once again in agreement and in debt to the scientist.

However not all is well...

Within the Human territories, 2 Emperors see this power signature even from their own palaces and decide to investigate. When they find this source of power, they are intrigued and realize the benefits this can provide. One emperor realizes the destruction it can cause while the other realizes the energy costs it can lower and other civilian benefits.

These 2 Empires are sworn enemies of each other, constantly watching for the other to mess up, constantly vying for other Alien races to ally with them to give them an edge should their rivalries cross the very thin line of peace and war and cause destruction that knows no rivalry...at least for humans.

But in order to prevent war, Emperor Albright Zaeffer, ruler of one group of humans has sent out a secret message among a variety of people, alien and not, to try to get this scientist to come to the Capital peacefully without causing any trouble.

His rival, name to be determined, has sent his own small part of his military to investigate. While this may not seem like a good idea, this Emperor is known to be tricky...

How bout that? A bit of it is Regenius' idea but before we have a go, I want everyone's opinion and if that's what they want. Also, fling ideas like monkey with poo.

I'm fine with the basic idea, but I just wanted to throw out some questions that need to be clarified for a better basis.

I understand that this is FT, but there are different degrees of technology and magnitude. Are we talking SW where there are trillions of people, massive fleets, droids, etc. or are we talking something much... less?

Are characters limited to normal humans or can they have special "powers" and abilities?

What types of characters (i.e. their roles)?
The Blastit Empire
27-01-2008, 00:31
there are a multitude of aliens, tech is fairly advanced, with FTL space travel of sorts, droids are both working unintelligent beings and a small collection of actual living, thinking droids, however their definition as race is under debate by most other races.

Fleets are large (they usually are lol), no death stars though.

Remember, we are concentrating on 2 Human empires, so things may not be the most advanced nor the most alien.

Chars can have special powers as long as they aren't godmod, which I will determine. Some races can be weak physically but strong mentally and use telekinesis to move things.

Their roles can be any. Preferably something other than military, considering they aren't expected to do much fighting along the way.

The Pilot and ship will probably be covered by me, however.
DMG
27-01-2008, 02:25
Aye, but what if our character is from the military part?

Are we all part of one group?
The Blastit Empire
27-01-2008, 02:33
I can't really stop you from making a char for having a military background lol however, Emperor Zaeffer would probably prefer someone without much military past because if his rival finds out, things could get ugly. He may think Zaeffer is trying to start war by enlisting ex-marines to train aliens to fight off his plans or something.

Then again, Zaeffer could rewrite your char's past so he is harder to come off as ex-military...but again, his rival could dig up some files on them or something. One may never know!

You could have them part of the futuristic NRA I guess lol...

LoL Go with what you want, I can adapt and what not. Just no godmodding.

And yes, everyone will be in 1 group, there won't be a set of enemies for people to RP unless they have an idea or a plot of their char's past they would like to have us go through.

For example, say your char was part of a small criminal organization and his past has come back to haunt him in the form of the criminal organization hunting him down. Cool beans have them criminals come guns ablazin!

lol really the limits of your char's creation is up to you and my godmod limits

are the species going to be original? Can we make our own? Will there be species from movies, tv shows, books etc? If not, can we make a character based on a species from fiction?
The Blastit Empire
27-01-2008, 04:38
It would be preferred to be original but you can take a few things from other sources I suppose. Not everything can be original I guess lol

just a point of interest, would bioshock style biomods be available? I started playing it again yesterday to achievement whore the last two achievements from it. :p

No need for them to be at the bioshock level though, they would have had to start with much smaller effects, more for practical use than military.
The Blastit Empire
27-01-2008, 18:02
another good game lol

But all this talk about games scare me ever so slightly. Yes, Plasmids would be available but I think they'd be more to the affect of biotics from Mass Effect in which you would need to go through intense training and surgeries to get them powers. So, for a civilian, it would just cost way too much to get civilian grade and not be too practical.

So, I don't think that would be too good. So unless you think up something to change my mind, Would You Kindly discard that idea:p

Oi, Blastie, fancy reviving some characters for this? I have a feeling Elijah, Alice, Carl and Fran are itching to go lurking around snapping up new technology.

LoL Heya Midlonia, was thinking about you and the RP recently.

I don't think I'd like them to be in this one (These nations so far aren't as powerful as SB's nations or your people, so they would probably be super people compared to the others lol). Plus, I probably will only play one char and a bunch of npcs. I think one of the problems of my last RPs was I was way to many people to keep up with. I may do 2 chars but that depends on what the RP will be about/voted upon lol.

You're more then welcome to make up a new char or 2. All the chars will probably be in 1 group not a whole bunch of different ones and I probably won't allow secret other groups unless they die sometime during this RP lol.

Kitab Al-Ibar

I had forgotten entirely about that... possibly, though i was thinking more along the lines of Yaun-ti pureblood style from D&D. *shrug*

Edit: Should probably clarify, Skizzarish big and muscly, Yaun-ti average height, lithe rather than beefy.
The Blastit Empire
28-01-2008, 23:12
LoL There will probably be lizard people of all shapes and sizes. Maybe a few easter eggs

Furry squids made me chuckle and are cool beans. Robot is acceptable, there may be a robot co-pilot with the pilot if we use the current story base, but he won't really do much. My example will be up today hopefully. Last night my homework took longer then expected.

Bionics to a limit are allowed.

Similar template to the previous ones, but Alignment, and Where from are not required. Really, not many are lol. But if you make a race, describe any significant abilities that would make them different from a human:

Name:
Race:
Physical Discription/Appeance:
Powers/Speciality:
Occupation:
Age: (if you want...This can be general terms like, middle aged or something like that)
Gender:
Where From:
Alignment:
Bio:
_______________________________

Name: Tellen LiRoy

Race: Intrekin

Physical Discription/Appeance: Blue Skinned, angular features. Medium build. No hair but instead boney tendrils that curve towards the back of his head, ending in points at the base of his skull. Three or four of these stalks line the side of his head with the point pointed upwards. Has dark electric blue eyes. About 6 feet three inches tall.

Race Description: The Intrekin are one of the newer races to achieve space flight and trans-galactic travel. Their people have a long history of unity and a concentration of peaceful research. However, these people soon had to concentrate their efforts fully to war as invasion of their home planet began by a war-loving race, the Torameth. The Intrekin were able to advance their technology with amazing speed to drive back the invaders and save their species from extinction. Many lives were lost but from the war the Intrekin learned many new technologies, including spacecraft design and space travel.

Now the Intrekin have become a vast empire spanning several solar systems called the "Sun's Commonwealth". Although not currently involved in another war with other species since the Invasion, they are wary of new races and are especially ambivalent to those within their borders without a pass.

Most Intrekin are a honor bound people, respecting others to the best of their abilities. They are invaluable allies to any faction or person if said faction or person can actually befriend an Intrekin. With their honor, the Intrekin are also extremely loyal, willing to fight for the bitter end for their friend(s) if it came to that. This does, however, make them a very stubborn race.

The Intrekin possess a strange ability that their emotions are shown through the color of their skin. Although the adults can almost always mask the color changes, slips commonly occur, especially with embarassment.

Their tendrils atop their head are very solid, protecting their heads. They also seem to cool them down in some way if they get too hot.

Speciality: Flying, fighting, charming, cahoodling.

Occupation: Pilot, ex-pirate

Age: (if you want...This can be general terms like, middle aged or something like that) 120 out of 400

Gender: Male

Where From: The planet Altmai

Alignment:exiled from The Sun's Commonwealth, marooned by the Borel Spacers, an old group of space pirates that are beginning to die off. Currently a freelancer.

Bio: Tellen is a very different Intrekin. He is not very honorable and not very committed to anything. He was exiled from his planet and by the courts of the highest tier for something he doesn't talk much about. Although his skills as a pilot are wanted by those who know of him, his lack of loyalty and the questionable things he does dissuade most people.

Tellen usually spends his time drinking at a bar or many, or spending a few nights at a brothel indulging himself in whatever money can buy. Both of these things all other Intrekin frown upon, making the majority of his race try to forget about him or just ignore him.

When he's not indulging himself in said ways, he is transporting a wide variety of things across the galaxy, from supplies to more illegal things like slaves, drugs, weapons. Every now and then, he is paid to transport people, however most people are not satisfied when they leave.

One box he was meant to trade to a far off planet ended up breaking open, the droid within refusing to leave the ship. Apparently the machine refused serving the intended master because of cruel things it had found that master to do. With little other choice, Tellen was forced to accept the fact he now had a companion, later co-pilot and closest friend. Although, the robot rarely leaves the ship, it has grown almost a brotherly love with Tellen as it assumes a male personality.

Good? LoL I don't think I fleshed him out too greatly but good enough lol

I didn't write too much about his race, just the random things that come to mind

29-01-2008, 05:52
Name: Dr. Archimedes (Archi) Jeffries, Ph.D
Race: Human (Regenian)

Physical Discription/Appeance: Tall, medium build. Dark Mediterranean skin (think Greek), and dark brown hair which he wears parted on the side(what passes for black). Handsome and refined, looks good in a suit or uniform, but slightly out of place out of one. His left arm is bionic, relatively advanced, but lacks any feeling except for in the highly specialized finger tips which are sensitive to touch, but do not have a pain response.

Powers/Speciality: Super human strength in his left arm (bionics) and highly intelligent. RSF Training: can use guns, and hand to hand reasonably well.

Occupation: Former Regenian Security Force science officer, now a Theoretical Physicist representing the Regen Incorporated Advanced Product Research Division, and Deputy to the Chief Science Officer to CEO Thomas Alexander II.

Age: 43

Gender: Male

Where From: New Arlington (Home World of the Fleet), although currently resides on Regenius II, working at the massive Regen Corporate Headquarters.

Alignment: Neutral/Chaotic Good, with an egoistic moral standard. (Mainly going to learn what he can from the scientist to advance himself and the interests of Regen Corp.)

Bio: Children raised in Regenian space are instilled with unique moral values; the value of hard work, the value of money, and the ideal that one's ultimate success is limited only by their willingness to reach out and take it. Archi is an example of such a man. Named for an ancient mathematician and engineer, he was born into the ideal setting for his brilliant intellect, and profound will and determination to shine.

Despite being raised in a relatively poor household, he completed his education thanks to his parents willingness to sign 10 years of his life over to the Regen Corporation for service in the Regenian Security. In exchange, the Regen Corp. paid Archi's way through primary, secondary, undergrad, and grad school, and then brought him into the Regenian Security Forces, specifically, the highly secret Black Projects Division that designs most of the weapons and technology used by Regen Special Infiltration (and Corporate Espionage) Units today. It was during this stint that he lost his left arm to an "industrial accident". The declassified official report of the incident had more black ink on it than written words; It's an event he prefers not to talk about.

After finishing his service in the Security Forces, he was offered a job in the prestigious Advanced Product Research Division of Regen Incorporated, and readily accepted. He moved up the ranks quickly, and was noticed by the son of the current CEO who upon his father's death, appointed Archi to Deputy-CSO (Chief Science Officer). His immediate superior is a brilliant, but frail old man who advises on subjects of pure science, while Archi is left to oversee all Regen Corp. Research and Development.

With the discovery of this new power source in a far off galaxy, he sees it as in the best interest of the Corporation, and himself (he sees the CSO position in his future), he should investigate the reports (with out the competition noticing). As such, he's decided to join a team created by the government of one of Regen Incorporated's largest cusomers, [Zaeffer's Empire].

I'm gonna put up a more detailed description for him tomorrow, but I have class at 8am... ugh. Scratch that, the more detailed one is up.

Until then, I'm only using Regenius because I have the society's back story already worked out, and the cultural and individual motivations pretty well in hand. For the purpose of this outing, only modern regenian history comes into play (or in other words they didn't start on Earth). If you're worried about it, my Factbook is pretty detailed.

Name: Sarnel
Race: Ibarian
Physical Description/Appearance: Tall, lithe - thinner than an average human, but still giving the appearance of strength rather than frailty - A tail that reaches to just above the ground behind him and as mobile as an extra limb. Viridian scaled, sharper features than the average human would have, but not overly dissimilar. Teeth not overly visible when he smiles, small but razor sharp, if annoyed he can bring out his fangs.
Powers/Speciality: Rumours abound due to the similarity of this race to snakes and some are well deserved, Sarnel can secrete venom from his fangs, but he has found little need to do this in the past and is unsure of how potent it would be against targets. Of similar strength to a human, but more agile, very intelligent and creative.
Age: 46 of 160ish
Gender: Male
Where From: Ibaria
Bio: Ibarians are quite new arrivals to the interstellar arena. Their technology is mostly mimicked from wreckages they found or technology other civilisations have deliberately or accidentally given them a look at. This is not to say they are not creative themselves, but they are masterful mimics of technology if they have a chance to study it and as such their technology has developed in a series of stop start bursts at each opportunity they have to access new technology from other sources. Their ships are always silver and designed to look sleek and lithe.

Sarnel was the only successor of a small fortune on his home planet, well educated and intelligent, but the opposite of his father, who was a dedicated philanthropist before he passed away. Instead he devoted his time and much of his fortune in research and development of his own unique spacecraft using the most modern technology he was able to lay his hands on and a few of his own personal tweaks.

For the last few years he had been exploring space and making a name for himself by discovering resources or collecting the occasional bounty, until that is, he angered enough of the local smugglers and pirates for them to do something about it and found himself ambushed by a group of pirates. His own ship - though powerful - was outnumbered and rapidly crippled by the attackers. They did not destroy him outright, but he was left injured and floating through space until his ship was 'salvaged' by another group.

They treated Sarnel’s injuries, but refused to return his ship and it took all of his best efforts to convince them to hold onto the ship until he was able to buy it back from them. That is how Sarnel found himself stranded on a space station doing menial tasks far beneath his abilities in the hopes of earning enough money to survive and get back his ship. However things were looking bleak, he was vying with many others at each opportunity and pay was minimal. Until, that is, this new opportunity came along, an incredible power source... if he could get a good look at it he might just be able to mimic it and make enough of a fortune to get back his ship, not to mention make several upgrades that he had seen.

There we go, Ibaria would technically be my planet, though I’ve never given it much thought. Might tweak a few details, but that’s the gist of it.

Name: Xelloneeth, or Xell for short to Humans and Other Races

Race: Xenoja

Physical Discription/Appeance: Stands almost 7'ft tall. Has hard, black, armor like skin. Because its skin is naturally hard, members of the species wear only light armor in order to help protect them from arms fire, as their skin is resistant to about a midlevel of weapons, with the exception of lazers, explosives, ballistics, etc. This particular member wears green armor. The head of the Xenoja is its most distinctive feature at first glance. It is a large, cylindrical shaped head, The Xenoja have no eyes, but they use senses of smell, sonar, and slight telepathy to get a sense of their surrondings.

Race Description: The Xenoja evolved from one of the most feared species in the galaxy, the Xenomorph (Aliens, like in Alien vs. Predator). How long the species as been around or when they evolved is not known, as the Xenoja had a history similar to man's, except for the fact that their home planet, Xenus, does not have a suitable enviroment for fossilization, therefore a missing link is impossible to find.

The Xenoja have kept some traits of their old species. They retained, as previously noted, the hard carapace, acidic blood, powerful claws and lack of eyes. However, they have gained considerable intellegance, and are capable of interstellar travel. Unlike the "Aliens", the Xenoja have individual personalities, traits, and thoughts. They have no tails, unlike the "Aliens", but are capable of climbing walls.

One of the things that seperates the Xenoja from the Xenomorphs is that the Xenoja do not use hosts for spreading their offspring. The famous Facehuggers are still in existance, but they are instead attached to a "mock host", a human sized incubator that acts as a host for the growing Xenoja. They do progress through the chestbuster stage, then molt into an adult. The caste system is still in effect with the species, as the mock host determines what the newborn Xenoja's role will be.

Although the Xenoja are a relatively peaceful species when unprovoked, they have proven in the past to be a merciless enemy. A rival species of organism once started a war on the Xenoja. The species was quickly eradicated, and their names and identities have been erased from records. When Xenoja go to war, they use everything they have to their advantage. Their technology is on par with many other species'. Another tactic is known as a "controlled infection". In this method, the Xenoja spread Xenomorphs to the planet/enemy. The Xenomorph's are not hostile to Xenoja, so destroying them is an easier process for Xenoja. As such, they are usually hired to exterminate Xenomorph infections on other planets.

Powers/Speciality: Very skilled with his weapon, which is a rifle that uses acid, similar to that in his bloodstream, as ammunition. Also a skilled warrior with any weapon. Unlike many other member sof his species, Stealth is not his strong point, neither is diplomacy.

Occupation: Warrior, Mercenary, Smuggler, Body Guard, Whatever the job requiers

Age: Unknown in human years, as the Xenoja have no way of telling age, only birth cycles.

Gender: Male

Where From: Xenus

Alignment: Good

Bio: Xelloneeth is a Xenoja Warrior Emissary. He travels to other planets, doing oddjobs in order for the other planets to gain trust for the Xenoja, who still struggle witht the fact that their closest relatives are mindless, parasitic menaces. Xelloneeth has completed many missions successfully, and is a particularly well known Warrior Emissary.

Race: Mammalia Cephlapodica
Height: 7,11"
Weight: 462lbs
Powers/Specialty: Computers
Occupation: Programmer, Hacker, Engineer
Age: Young, comparable to a 12 year old.
Gender: Male
Where From: Gemini C1

Gemini C1 is a large icy moon orbiting at twice the distance of earth. Tooth's species are the only creatures presently habiting the vast icescapes of the planet while 99% of the other lifeforms still reside in its massive underground oceans. While for years it was unknown why Tooth's species fled the oceans teeming with food, recent expeditions discovered a second species of what could only be described as abnormally aggressive plated sharks. It is hypothesized these sharks pushed Tooth's species to the brink of extinction, but do to an irregularly orbit, were able to surface for several centuries developing lungs and residing on the safety of the remaining ice caps.

Alignment: Benevolent

Bio: Tooth's species was recognized widely as incredibly intelligent problem solvers and very friendly to the expedition crews. Tooth's herd saved the first expedition crew from near death after a horrible crash during entry.

Scientists had spent several decades training Tooth's species to adapt them for galactic relations when their talents with computers were immediately recognized. These squids have an advanced sense of electric fields in all things, known as electroreception. This ability allowed them to hunt the fish deep under the ice, and even give them the ability to read the emotions of most species in the galaxy. More importantly, an advanced perception of computer software, almost impossible for most to comprehend.

Unfortunately Tooth and his kind have no concept of sarcasm, lying, or betrayal. Even the idea of physical aggression is very foreign despite their powerful limbs and beak. One would have to directly assault these warmblooded squids, or their kin, to draw a fight with them. Even then they will only defend until they perceive the attacker is subdued.

Tooth has been equipped with a small computer that allows him to speak to other species since he and his kind cannot verbally communicate.

Name: Dr. Melcor Eidolphus
Race: Human
Physical Description/Appearance: Skinny, tall, old. Wears perscription goggles that make his green eyes look five times their actual size. His glasses disappeared somehow disappeared, most likely got incinerated by whatever projects he was working on. Top of head is bald while a thin layer of white hair covers the back and sides of his head. Medium length, full white beared covers his skinny wrinkled neck as he wears a long white lab coat with a pocket stuffed with a variety of pens and a notepad with many pages stuffed into it.
Age: Upper 70s
Gender: Male
Where From: Mars Colony: Progress
Bio: Born in the small martian colony of Progress, Dr. Melcor Eidolphus was born from a family of scientists. His mother being a prestigious researcher of medicines and one of the founders of Inst-aid, the all-purpose healing gel that many species use for their healing needs. His father was no push-over either as he helped invent the technology used for commercial space travel across solar systems by use of Solar technology.

Dr. Melcor trained through the best academies in Human Space to learn what he could through the sciences, eventually specializing in Alternative Energy Solutions where he helped build a variety of engines used in planetary travel.

However once his research was out in public, he found out what his parents constantly had to go through. Both human governments, The Worlds Coalition (Emperor Zaeffer's Empire) and the Star Union instantly began giving him offers in attempt to tempt him into one side or the other. However, like his parents, avoided them and instead, invented for the general public, working for several corporations, especially his father's company. For decades, he worked, taking over his father's position after his father died peacefully. When his mother died while he was in his late 50s, he was in one of the most prestigious positions in the company and frequently taught lectures at a variety of Universities.

But all was going down hill from there. The tension between the two empires was growing at an incredible rate as habitable planets were swallowed by one or the other. Melcor's company too was swallowed up by The SU while the rival company was taken by the WC. It was evident that everyone was taking sides and the only way to escape such a dilemma was to escape the human settlements. With haste, he made for a small backwater planet in a nearby solar system to continue his work and perhaps even help the people of that planet.

It's MUCH better than the Blair Sick Project, and it actually uses atmosphere and mood for scares rather than the bog standard "Grudge" technique. That is: creating a false sense of security, deliver a psuedo scare, deliver real scare with high pitched screech and have it fly into the camera.

Name: Anzha Lyu Mitethe
Race: Human - Psionic - Throwback
Height: 5'4"
Weight: Very slender/child-like
Hair: 'Jazzberry Jam' - Crayola crayon colour
Eyes: Hazel
Powers/Specialty: Psionic/Sword
Occupation: Independent(nominally retained by the Institute)
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Where From: Azea(born), Institute(raised)

Alignment: Neutral

Bio: Azea as a planet is one that was inherently hostile to human life and remains so to this day which presented the settlers with a problem. As they would demonstrate, rather than allow themselves to live at the mercies of an artificial enviroment that was possible to fail, the Azean people utilized genetic manipulation to render thier off-spring capable of surviving the harshness and toxicity of thier world. This led, throught the generations to a relative uniformity amongst skin tone, physical build and hair. One of the unusualities of the Azean people is that proportionally the precentage of psionically gifted people is substantially higher than the norm which lead to the founding of the Institute.

However Anzha is an aberration for she does not match any of the genetic parameters of the Azean race. Only the power, stubborness of her parents and lineage of her mother allowed her birth at all. However her parents time with her was short for within a couple years of her birth died at an assassin's hand for both had been involved in long-standing war with another nation(No relation to the war of the emperors seeking the powersource). The death trauma was sufficiant to jar open the 'gates' thrusting the infant into her abilities far earlier than even the youngest limit.

Requiring, and nearly destroying his mind, the work of one of the Institutes' finest Probes(analogus to a cross between psychiatrist and surgeon), she spent the next many years within the Instititue developing mental abilities as well as skill with a sword(one of the most common past-times) where she both excelled and learned from one of the few non-psionics who could best a psionic in swordsmanship.

She has since begun travelling and searching for something.

I think including psionics is sort of godmodding unless you nerf it. Like say... people with strong wills can resist it, or it's only a sort of telesend, telereceive telepathy. But characters that literally know what other characters are thinking make dialogue unnecessary (which, when handled with out the utmost care, kills a narrative).

If her psionic power is just something called Throwback, which I assume is just like Force Push that hits only one person unless she puts her whole effort into it by pushing a group of people away, which leaves her greatly exhausted, kinda like how a char was in one of my other RPs...although I don't remember who's char or anything else about that char

But characters that literally know what other characters are thinking make dialogue unnecessary (which, when handled with out the utmost care, kills a narrative).

In terms of the 'telepathic' aspect, the way its being being done on my end is thus: Most beings have 4(5) mental layers:
Layer(0): The very intense thoughts of a focused mind, such as the thoughts chess master on the game of his career or of an assassin which end of being broadcast to the world at large: Most people never or rarely are in this layer as it requires a great deal of mental effort. (man with a megaphone shouting intentions, no effort)
Layer(1): The basic thoughts that have little relevence(I'm hungry, she's cute, bastard cut me off) the ones that are always at the surface and easy to read. (a billboard, little effort)
Layer(2): Active thoughts(It's my birthday in a couple days am I getting a party, wonder what's for supper) Generally not of much use but occasionally useful. (a book, average lighting, depends on person average effort)
Layer(3): Deep thoughts, the kind people keep secret. (a small book, tiny print, poor lighting, very difficult, nearly impossible if screening or easy if opening up)
Layer(4): Memories/Automatic actions: Inaccessible to Anzha, only those who have the 'Probe' designation can access this.

She also has mid-level telekinesis(mostly used to strengthen/quicken body), and minor empathics(angry-happy-sad ect).

However she has certain difficulties with using 'telepathics' anyways due in part to a layer of conditioning(unknown to her-done by Probes on all psychics to make them of greater benefit to the Institute).

Throwback is racial rather than ability. It would be roughly comparable to a pure breed poodle, bearing a wolf puppy when no reason exists that should allow it.

Alright...

Well, as I found out before, I don't like other people using Telepathy.

I would ask that you scrap the idea because other than getting rid of possible surprises, I don't see how good it is for RP playing.

The Mid-Level Telekinesis used to quicken or strengthen her body is acceptable in moderation while empathics is alright.

Other than that, I'd say it's up to the rest of the members to accept confirmation. It seems to be my policy for iffy chars ;)

Reading Tooth's thoughts would be pretty boring.

"Hungry, need fish."
"Bored, find companion."
"Hurt, patch wound."

If you hand him a rubix cube and tell him to put all the colors on the same side, he'll remove each cube manually, and hand it back to you completed. He wouldn't, or possibly couldn't, understand the need to rotate the sides.

Harr! With exams finished, I present a character:

Name: Alexandria “Alex” Lin
Gender: Female
Species: Matrai
Age: 41 Toderan years (47 Earth years, Human equiv. age 29)
Height: 167cm (5’6”)
Weight: 52kg (115 lbs)
Appearance: brown eyes, dark brown hair (mid-back length), slender figure, but in good physical shape.
Origin: Shunsao, Wusan, Todera, Indoan Alliance
Occupation: Engineer. Formerly a Major in the Indoan Air Force.

Qualifications/Skills:
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering
Basic field medical training (Matrai)
Level 4 Combat Controller certificate
Level 1 Pilot’s licence

Other abilities:
Mild involuntary precognition
Proficient in the use of infantry weapons (mostly her personal sidearm)
Implanted with a neural thread, the only purpose of which (when located so far from Indoan influence) is to translate for her; she speaks only rudimentary English without it.

Bio:
After graduating with honour from the University of Novaya, Alex joined Alliance Fighter Command and became a security officer. After 3 years, she decided that she was wasting her talents, and, with the approval of her CO, spent a year retraining as an Air Defence Controller; a post that put all allied forces in the sector under her command during an enemy attack. She served her new post with distinction for 11 years, rising to a senior position that put her in charge of controlling the entire orbital defence network. After serving 15 years with the AFC, she chose retirement instead of promotion, and revived her engineering expertise to find work in the civilian sector. She spent nearly 4 years working for a Toderan defence contractor, then applied for, and received, permission from the government to leave the system to find work elsewhere.

Weapon: PS-21 10mm semi-auto pulse pistol

Notes: Like all Indoan citizens operating outside the Alliance, she enjoys Diplomatic Protection status from the Indoan Government, and also acts as an intelligence officer to a minor extent.
Additionally, a background check on her is virtually impossible to carry out, as the Alliance is mostly unknown to other races, and, due to xenophobia and paranoia, ruthlessly enforces a closed border policy. There are no non-Alliance citizens within the Alliance, and 99% of Alliance citizens outside the Alliance are active military.

Species info: Matrai
Externally virtually identical to humans, matrai are an example of parallel evolution at work. The principle differences between the two species are the much paler, usually marble white skin of matrai, greater average physical strength and a mild precognitive ability. This is involuntary, and usually consists of brief flashes only a few seconds long, shortly before the event actually occurs, though longer flashes that are significantly before the event are not unknown. The net effect is roughly equivalent to extremely fast reflexes, though the capabilities vary from person to person. Internally, they have some noticable physiology differences, and suffer from a weak respiratory system that means most matrai commonly wear a filter mask to purify the air they breathe.

Let me know if ya need me to change anything.

Name: Electronic Lifeform Vassal 3N-0000009 (Elven)

Race: Robot

Physical Description: Like with all ELV-3N models, it stands at exactly six feet. The silver and white exterior of this robot resembles humans, and even has a flexible polymer "skin" in the feet, hands, and face which allows it to mimic a variety of human facial expressions.

Race Description: The ELV-3N model, released only two years ago, are among some of the most expensive and versatile robot models in the region. Rather than specializing in a small number of tasks, as many robots are designed to do, ELV-3N are higher-end models designed to cater to the rich and powerful. And with that, it needed the ability to adapt and change according to the often fickle whims of the elite, so ELV-3Ns have unusually high learning and retainment abilities as well as a variety of personality templates designed for accomodating their masters. Of course, the servant of the rich and powerful sometimes doubled as a bodyguard as well, and so ELV-3Ns were built to be physically tough. Along with higher strength than most robots (which already have high strength ratings), ELV-3Ns utilize a revolutionary new substance made from a precise combination of trinium, naquadah, and carbon, giving their frames and exoskeletons not only endurance, but the ability to absorb a certain amount of energy directly, which can then be stored for later use (thereby making some lower-end energy weapons ineffective against ELV-3Ns).

Hard-coded into the ELV-3N positronic brains are the Three Laws, which state:

1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Special Abilities: Extremely high rate of learning, high endurance, high strength

Occupation: Co-pilot

Age: 2 years

Gender: Neuter, although this particular one assumes a male personality.

Where From: Foundry, an industrial world in Emperor Zaeffer's Capital system.

Bio: Elven was amongst the first ELV-3N models to be made, and his original intended master was a crime lord with wide influence. However, whether it be by good avoidance practices, good attorneys, bribing/blackmailing/threatening of officials, or some other deeds, this crime lord has never been convicted of anything, despite his crimes being widely (though unofficially) known. Perhaps it was because of this that the person contracted to transport the crime lord's new ELV-3N was a former pirate himself.

It just so happened that during this transport, the container holding Elven broke open, waking him up from sleep mode. Before the captain of the ship even had time to check on the container, the inquisitive Elven had already downloaded as much of the ship's log and manifest as his (then limited) abilities allowed him to. This revealed to him his intended master, and the next logical step was to download information on this intended master. By the time that the captain of the ship, one Tellen LiRoy, reached the opened container, Elven had already discovered the type of person his intended master was, and had decided that he could not allow himself to be delivered.

In all likelihood, his intended master would require him to do something that may violate Law 1, and refusing the intended master's orders would then likely result in his termination. Since he was never actually ordered to serve this master (he was in sleep mode the whole time, and the cargo manifest only suggested that he was meant to serve the crime lord), Law 3 took priority over Law 2.

The most sensible thing to do was to refuse to be delivered, thereby avoiding being given an explicit order by the intended master that would result in Law 2 taking precedence over Law 3. Elven was fortunately able to convince Tellen not to deliver him, and consequently they spent good chunks of the next two years trying to avoid the agents of the crime lord that were sent after them.

In the two years since Elven awoke for the first time, he had developed what humans (and Intrekins) would call a close bond with Tellen. Love, even brotherly love, was not a concept that even the advanced ELV-3N models could quite grasp, but they did understand loyalty and trust, and that, Elven believed, was what he and Tellen had for one another.

Actually, no. But now that it is the weekend, I will focus my attention on it.

I would welcome any inspiration, ideas, character types/roles/skills.

We have 6 Males, 2(If Theao's Char is accepted) Females

We have a pilot, a hacker/Technician/Programmer, a scientist, an Engineer/medic, a co-pilot, 2-4 Warriors/Fighters/Assassins.

Medics/Doctors are always nice on long journeys lol. Or you can be creative and think up something since I can't think up much at the moment lol.

Also realize that a doctor won't be able to patch everyone up all the time since probably not everyone is always going to be hurt or wounded. In case you do choose a doctor

There will probably be a few instances of her life being endangered lol. Will I need to tell you of something like this happening and little clips of what it is?

She would have provided details of her relevant qualifications and previous employment to Zaeffer when she applied for the position. Although obviously she's not going to have told him that she's a low level intelligence officer as well.

And Alex's precognition is a little above average level, which simply means she tends to have flashes a little more often than most, not with any greater warning. 98% of the time it's just going to enhance her reflexes. As a rule (for the general population, not just her), it tends to happen more often when events would endanger her life, but it can't be solely relied on to keep her alive in those situations.

EDIT: Alex's medical training is basic at best. She knows vaguely what to do to keep someone alive until a proper medic can get there. And her knowledge is biased toward battlefield wounds (since it was military training) and matrai physiology i.e. she's not going to be much help if the injured person isn't her, or a human.

Cool char but, How strong and what's the range?
If you've seen the Elfen Lied anime/manga, similar to Lucy/Nyu. Aprox 2 meters(remains connected to body), able to hurl an item up to twice weight with killing force, can be used as 'swords' but rarely done.

And if we intend on getting to page 9, well I think we've got some work to do. However, page 9 is a subjective entity, since if like me you've altered the number of posts displayed per page, then page 9 isn't the same as it is for other people. Just to keep things interesting. ;)

Would 4 or 5 feet be acceptable(as it is from the body 'trunk' as opposed to the tip of the finger or anything and one foot would be less than half her arm length). As her arm length is aprox 3 feet.

I find i have some time to waste, so i may as well get something up, i just might edit it a little later so by no means take this as definite, but it's unlikely to deviate too much.

Name: "Tooth"

Would this be better?
If so, back-ground will be added to.

Name: Niri Asari
Age: 320 (Proportional to 16)
Species: Ni-Fel*
Attributes: Black/Red hair, eyes(depends on mood), lean/somewhat muscular build, height(5'6"-5'8"**), Small wings, tail, ears(dog-ish, on top of head)
Special abilities: Vectors***, stronger/faster/tougher than appearence indicates.
Weapons: Retractable claws/fingernails, teeth, what-ever's handy.
Background:Niri, as tradition for her people, has begun wander the galaxies, looking for an Adventure. Until such time as she has had a proper Adventure, she may not return home, and thus can be quite odd, and irrational at times.
Behavior: Ni-Fel have, at times been compared to humming-birds on a sugar rush, inveriably, the humming-birds are offended by this comparison.

ooc: * Ni-Fel, are what many races would consider 'demons', thought they are simply a race that grows in power/strength ect, but not wisdom/maturity as they age and thus are generally unwelcome, as they do a tend to leave a path of destruction/chaos in thier wakes.
** Because of her 'hyper-activity', no one has ever been able to get an accurate height measurement.
*** Telekinetic 'arms'(short range but quite strong)

Name: Proctus
Race: Synthec
Physical Discription/Appeance: Humanoid form however that is only as far as it goes. His metal frame is covered with wires and pipes with a light outer covering of armor. Under his right arm is a self-load submachine gun while his left arm carries a rapid fire grenade launcher. Over each hand is a katar-like weapon with 3 blades each (like Wolverine).

Synthec: A machine race who's origins are unknown. They are efficient killers and workers, making them perfect assassins and workers, however, unlike most Human droids, they seem to have their own free will and will not follow every order given to them if they don't believe them to benefit them in some way.

Powers/Speciality: Expert killer, Wears light armor to protect from few firearm shots, larger shield that protects from most weapons. More vulnerable to point blank fire then anything else.
Occupation: Assassin, plotter, Ambassador, Calculator, Conspirator, fighter.
Age: 30
Gender: Assumes Male personality and has male voice box
Where From: A-1, Synthec homeworld
Alignment: The Star Union (your enemy)
Bio:

Intelligence has gathered little information about Proctus however what little is known points to Proctus being a well-respected official of the Synthec people. He held a public office for 12 years before he mysteriously vanished from the political perspective. Later he was at the head of a strike force to eliminate pirate threats in the Synth Galaxtic space.

Now, he is found amongst the SU alongside several other prominent figures. The appearance of Proctus with SU Emperor Dualfir definately poses a serious problem for all citizens of WC

Although I've grown fond of the title, what should the Story's Title be?

lol

Power in a New World?

The Dielus Crisis? - Dielus is the world name that the good doctor is at, methinks...has a ring to it.

War Seed? (I kind of like that one, considering the fact that if this goes as planned and if there is a sequel, it may be in a galactic war)

Tug-A-War?

LoL <--(My favorite title...)

Anywho, like? Suggestions? Ideas? Cool Beans? Hot Beans?

Hehe, The Dielus Crisis just sounds like a Robert Ludlum novel to me.

And while I have no objection to War Seed as title material, the writer in me cries at the grammar and word order. Might I suggest Seed(s) of War as an alternative. Also, I do quite like Reg's idea, with an overall title and chapter sub-titles.

Sub Title and Chapter titles? More work!

LoL jk, yeah We'll see what happens...

Seed of War will be the Sub Title because if this does sprout a larger series/saga, it will be the beginning that sets it off.

Then what will be the big master title? Not a big fan of the Zaeffer Chronicles, although it would work...

Cosmic Silence? Cosmic because it's in space/interstellar, Silence because it's a war/going to be a war that kills a lot of people? Eh? Eh?

Cosmic Peril?

Cosmic Lethality?

Charibdis' Maw?

Typhon's Fury?

Basilisk('s) Journey?

Wanderer's Chronicle/Saga?

I would use something with Phoenix but too many people use that lol
Hmm...

Suggestions, ideas, info?

Dear God, house hunting is stressful and really takes it out of you, found a house we like, but other group interested and need to mail a cheque, first come first served, so a bit of a lottery, which would be coming out of my account since i can most easily get the needed money together (since they want only one cheque) and the others pay me back, was most of the way through sorting that out (Cheque written and letter written and almost going down to post it) and then...

The parents of one of the others suddenly called saying they had worked out how much it would cost to rent for the 4 of us for two years and think it would be better to buy a house for their daughter and the rest of us rent from her, so they are looking at houses today and trying to see if its viable, leaving us in the lurch all of a sudden. Hopefully gonna get sorted out later tonight or tomorrow though.

Frustration! And i don't even have any game i want to play where i can release that by killing hordes of enemies... hmmm, maybe overlord again... probably not.

Here's my idea for another character. I know that this has already began, but seeing as how the ship has yet to take off, I figure a 'last minute addition' that they had trouble finding could turn up and jump on before lift-off. Tell me what you think.

Name: Primus Hallyol "Lyol" Thorfinus
Species: Human Psion
Age: 39 solars (lifespan of about 150 solars).
Height: 6'1"
Weight: approx 90kg (197 lbs)
Eyes: Purple
Hair: Brown
Other: Distinct scar below the lip, usually hidden behind a short beard
Powers/Specialty: Psion-Null*, handy with short range melee weapons, proficicient with ballistic fire-arms, excels with energy weapons. Able to perform intermediate repairs, and can fix any problem that might arise in his translator.
Gender: Male
Alignment: The Collegium
Origin: Scadterrenvar

Bio: Born the first of seven children, hence his first name, Hallyol did not not manifest any type of psionic abilities common to the rest of his family. His father, a telepath, and his mother, an empath, worried that their son would be viewed as an outcast. However, as the boy grew up, both parents, as well as other psions, found it increasingly difficult to acces Lyol's mind. Coupled with the inability of his few telekinetic friends to directly touch him, his history magister took an interest in his promising pupil, and put him to the Test to verify any type of abilities. It was then, by resisting the efforts of the Proctors with uncanny efficiency that his power of telenullification was recognized.

Subsequently enrolled in the Collegium, he became adept as a hands-on problem solver. During one of his many after-hours sparring matches that were common to the Collegium, he received a rather nasty gash just above the chin. Since he did not immediately receive medical aid, the healing process was slowed, and the cut left a long scar on Lyol's chin. To prevent any loss of his social life or ability to connect with his female classmates, Lyol allowed his beard to grow out to hide the scar.

Upon graduation of his classes, Lyol was employed by the Collegium as a recruiter, and less publicly, as a Sweeper. His acknowledged duties include travel to seek out promising youth that could possess psionic abilities, and then arrange for them to be put to the Test based on evaluations by their instructors, magisters, teachers, or equivalent educators. Additionally, when needed, Lyol is called to seek out and eliminate rogues, often psionics that received training at the Collegium but have decided to use their abilities for personal or malicious ends.

*Psion-Nullification: This is a passive ability that generates a protective field around the affected. In the ground state, the field extends outwards of only a few inches, though the range can be rescinded (somewhat easy, but requires conscious thought to accomplish), or alternatively expanded to include others, though in the latter case, the energy drain is significant, and only sustainable for a short period of time. The record for a trained psion with this ability was 48 standard minutes, though Lyol could, at most, hold out for ten minutes with only one other individual before entering a state of physical exhaustion. Within this field, the psion is immune to telepathic or empathic manipulation of any sort, as well as any direct telekinetic action. However, it does not negate the laws of physics, and an object moved telekinetically and then released from direct control would not be stopped. Thus, telekinetic holds on Lyol have no effect, but moving something telekinetically, such as throwing a projectile via psionic control, would not be altered by Lyol's nullification.

In response to DMG's question about in story join up.

From what I understand, a guy named Bain is the liason for this group. I'd imagine that he would have the equivalent to a PDA/cellphone/iPhone/Blackberry gadjet. The admiral that Bain was talking to earlier could send him a message stating that "We have received word that another member will join your group. We were unsure about his availability earlier, but he has made himself available for this venture, and is en route to the ship now. Please bring him up to speed. Enclosed is his dossier." Thus, Bain would get the intel report on Lyol, and Lyol would simply sneak on to the ship, probably by climbing through the landing gear hatch. He gets on, is noticed, says "howdy" to Bain, and all things progress easily from there. Easy, workable, and believable.

Anyways, that's my idea. Glad to see that I have two supporters for Lyol. Hope there are others that like the idea of him. Never made up a Psi-nuller before, so this should be interesting if I am allowed to play him.

Also, I seem to be able to type with skill while drunk (four shots and many beers in four hours so far, possibly more since there's a party that I'm at, but taking a break from to stop the room from spinning.)

Hey, playing numerous games of Beer Pong, Flip Cup, and that one where you spin around on a baseball bat ten times before downing a can of whatever's been put out can really mess with your sense of direction. Not to mention the extremely rapid metabolization of alcohol with all that activity.

The usefulness isn't the real issue, it's just a part of who Lyol is. His major work as a traveling recruitment agent and Proctor of the Collegium means that he has definitive diplomatic experience, having to enroll propsectives from the varied planetary cultures that he visits.

Possibly true, though I doubt Blast will keep any psionics out if we have an effective counter. I imagine it would be the type of thing that the enemy emperor would try.

Also, though this is premature of me, I plan to post Lyol's entrance in the IC thread. If rejected, I will delete that post, but until then I will be writing it and then posting it to show that I can bring Lyol in without breaking up the story. Expect something Sunday, probably in the afternoon.

Question: how good are the air purifiers & filters on Tellen's ship? How much dust and other crap is there in the air? Alex is quite happy to wear her filter mask all the time if she needs to, but she will at least test the air to see if she can withstand it.

Also, Alex isn't going to be too fond of Lyol, KatG. She's lose her foresight when he's nearby. :p

I'd assume they are pretty good given the description of the ship.

Question is, would she know she had lost it?
Free Eagles
16-03-2008, 23:35
I'm just wondering about that myself. I'd be inclined to say no, actually, because it's not something she has conscious control of. If it was something she could use at will, then yes, she'd notice pretty much immediately, I think. But since it's an involuntary ability, I think no. Obviously, she'll figure it out eventually, because she'll start to notice when she hasn't had any flashes for a while, particularly since she gets them fairly often.

However, based on the standard area of effect KatG gave, she would have to remain in very close proximity to Lyol for quite some time before it became apparent. So I don't think she'll notice for a while.

The other question is, will I remember that she can't have flashes when she's near him. :p

Niri ain't gonna like him(or at least the null field), and when she don't like something, she tends to get somewhat violent and smacky.

Nah, she'll like him fine. She will be able to have psychic flashes unless Lyol is trying very, very hard to stop her. His field only extends a few inches, and while she won't be able to directly 'see' Lyol (he'd be invisible/silent in those flashes), Alex will be able to see others in those flashes, and if they're interacting with Lyol (I don't know how effective the precognition is), she'll see their side of a conversation.

Lyol can't actually negate Alex's power unless he's got one of two types of contact: skin-to-skin, or skin on paraconducting material to skin. The second consists of specialized materials that can conduct instantaneous energy transference by linking high energy electrons with a resonance of the nucleus of component alkali atoms. Lyol has these materials as fibers in most of his clothing (to prevent telekinetics from stripping him down in the middle of a fire fight), but apart from this type of physical contact, Alex can still have psychic flashes. Remember, the range is only a few inches in any direction, and Lyol could extend his field to null out Niri if she's close by, but even that would only work for a few minutes before physical exhaustion sets in.

So, now that we have that situation cleared up (Alex can still see into the future unless Lyol is touching her skin, hmm, possibilities???), I'm going to try to summarize this in a basic saying. Hallyol's ability is a defensive barrier against direct use against him, and it can be circumvented. A telepath once read a conversation he was having by going through the other person, nearly costing Hallyol his life. While somebody couldn't shove Lyol directly, they could easily hurl the crate that's sitting a mere ten feet away at him for the same effect. He doesn't show up on precognitive flashes, but the viewer will see everybody else, talking to and bumping up against some invisible, silent person.

His ability is useful in that it's rarety and parameters often cause slower psionics and those with entrenched habits to fail to adapt quickly enough to stop him. Others that can grasp Hallyol's limits have statistically been much tougher to handle, which is why Sweepers operate in teams, though a nullifier's presence is definitively useful.

Any further questions?

Long time no see, eh eh eh?

If everyone else gives an aye to you joining, then I don't see why I shouldn't...

LoL about the emperor sending a psychic, maybe. I had crafted an idea earlier with a psychic and this would be an interesting playout.

No worries though, he wasn't planned for this current RP though lol.

Sorry for not posting, got busy...lol...

But as long as no one else has a problem with KATG's chap, I'll give it a go. Kinda don't like the entrance with the late thing (the engine is starting) but it'll do ;)

And in case anyone was wondering,

Man, Hallyol seems to be getting hatred from every side. It's odd, too, since most of the time his job demands that he be likable. I mean, what parents in their right mind would send away their kid based on an offer by an un-likable person? If it helps, he won't reveal his nullification ability.

Also, for the entrance, I can work through that. Blast, I'm going to use your NPC of Admiral Byron, and Lyol's lateness will necessitate him boarding through alternative means. And it will happen...now (or rather, just as soon as I'm done posting this).
