"...The Nobel Commitee is proud to present Stewart Hopkins and Gregory Jenkins the Prize for Medicine for their discovery of the genetic coding of the Human -Varried Autoimmune Symptoms Virus."
Present Day:
They made a stupid mistake...they tried to weaponize it. H-VAS, Human-Varied Autoimmune Symptoms Virus, was the most deadly disease ever to present itself to the human race, and they tried to weaponize it. The stupid bastards, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. They succeeded anyway, more than they had ever dreamed. And to think the men who made it possible were heralded as geniuses. Still, they're not entirely to blame. It was the Palestinian Jihad that released it in Israel... they didn't realize how virulent it was.
Within two days of the biological attack by those stupid fucking Jihadists, 99.998% of Tel-Aviv was dead. It didn't stop there either...
March 14th, 2010
"...The Center for Disease Control announced today that it was making progress in the effort to contain the H-VAS outbreak in the Middle East..."
March 23rd, 2010
"...Despite the best attempts of the World Heath Organization, the quarantine has been ineffective. Cases of H-VAS have been diagnosed in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Paris, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. The Center for Disease Control advises individuals to be on the lookout for symptoms, which are characerized as Flu-like in addition to transparency of the skin, and inflamed veins and arteries..."
March 26th, 2010
"...The Center for Disease Control has released a statement verifying the concerns of the medical community, H-VAS has been detected in most major world cities. Congress has ordered the emergency closing of all government facilities including schools. The CDC advises that families stay inside and avoid contact with others for the next few days..."
Present Day
The 99.9% deathrate would have been managable... if they had stayed dead. It turns out that after H-VAS kills you, it starts to rebuild.
May 9th, 2010
"...Hordes of the "zombies", as I'm forced to call them, are now in control of the streets. There's no military left to fight them. I can see them through the window of the station. I think they know I'm here... Oh God... please someone help me!..."
"This is KZZW, we are experiencing technical difficulties. We will resume our broadcast as soon as possible."
Present Day
The H-VAS, or Mortis Strain as the few survivors have begun to call it changed the physiological and neurological wiring of the human body. The "zombies" became protein processing machines. They served as little virus factories forming more of the tiny parasites. In order to maintain that production though, they had to have a near constant supply of food. The only thing left to eat were people...
I've been listening to my shortwave, and there's going to be a meeting at a church about 50 miles north of here. From what I can tell, there are only about 12 survivors in the nearby area. We've decided that it makes the most sense to band together. Safety in numbers, you know.
It's good to hear other people again though. I haven't seen a living soul since August, and I am definitely in need of some company. I was afraid I'd gone mad a few times... maybe I have. Who knows? Still, I'm going... I even have a little hope for the future now...

Where the hell am I, I thought as I woke up. I looked around.... nothing. There was nothing, not another single soul. I picked up my pocket knife. Looked around, and saw that my car was still intact. I fiddled around in my pockets and found my keys. All of a sudden, I saw a pair of headlights coming towards me. I flagged down the Driver and asked his name he replied "Stanley is the name, and yourself"
"My name is Percy Thomson, you survived all of this too?"
"Unfountunatly, cmon theirs a meeting of the survivours in a church up the road" he said.
and with that, I got in my car and followed Stanley.

Aidan had been passing through on his way out to the mid-west from Maine when he heard the call over the radio.
Maybe I should go take a look, might be able to be of some use. He thought as he revved his bike.
He stopped on his way as he reached an old gun shop.
Time to get some more .30-06 rounds for G-Pa's old gun.
He walked up to the door and planted a kick on the lock, breaking in. His M1 swung up, ready incase any zombies where lurking inside.
If no one is here, I am gonna head straight to that church. It'll be good to see a House of God again.

As Aidan entered, he looked around, shotguns still sat on the walls in some places, while bolt actions and semi-autos hung in place, while any weapon that looked like it could possibly be transformed into a full auto/burst weapn was gone.
"Idiots," Aidan mutterd, "Only head shots 'll kill them"
Aidan procedeed toward the counter where the ammo was located, and grabbed a couple boxes of M-1 ammo.
Sweet, thirty, more shots Aidan thought as he looked at the number of rounds in the boxes.
He pocketed them and grabbed a couple boxes of Shotgun shells, all of them for twelve gauges, with the highest shot quantity. after he gathered up five boxes, he grabbed a pump action, and the tightest choke he could find.
As he was getting ready to leave, he spotted a .22 rimfire.
That could be useful if there are any younger kids in the group he thought and grabbed it.
HE slung them opver his shoulder and exited the building, M-1 at the ready.

Stan eyed the young man over. He seemed competent enough, and had to be if he had survived this long.
"The church is still about 20 miles off. I need to pick up some gas on the way. It'll be good to have somebody to watch my back... Anyway, let's go."

He followed the trail of footsteps and tyre tracks that marked a few peoples progression towards the church, to his best estimation, he wasn't far off.
He'd heard the radio broadcast where he had last been staying and had intended to ignore it, these meatings meant one of two things usually, a group of bandits trying to steal supplies or a larger than normal horde of zombies looking for a snack. But, he had been forced to leave in a hurry and left a few things behind, the car he had 'borrowed' had ran out of gas a mile or two ago, he had ditched the zombies a long while before that.
Pausing to lean on his 'staff' he and push the hair back from his eyes he looked around, hoping that one of the other survivors heading to this meeting would drive past and be kind enough to give him a lift.
Kara had been heating a can of beans on a BBQ, one of the only ways to cook food without a noticeabke fire that remained anymore thanks to the Outbreak, whilst fiddling with a CB radio to hopefully find another person.
Hearing the sound of some people talking about a church she knew of, she decided to head over, but not to just barge in as they sounded all male, and she'd had to fight off a lunatic who'd seen her as a peice of ass and nothing else and was thus slightly paranoid of guys in general.

Slowing down, Stan eased his gun out its holster. There was a man walking along the roadside up ahead, and he didn't want to take any chances in case he was 'infected'.
Stepping from the driver's seat, Stan stood about fifteen feet behind the stranger. "Need a lift buddy?"

Glancing back at the man that had driven up, he simply replied, "It would help."
He began to approach, then noticed the gun the man was holding, he laughed, "If you don't intend to rob me, you won't be needing that. The names, Mark, and yours?"

"Yeah, there is a church meeting a ways from here, come on, follow me."
Aidan stowed his scavenged weapons and ammo on the back of his bike, and gunned it into action.
He revved it and powered down the road toward the church, arriving as the others started to appear.
He dismounted, wearing his leather jacket and pants (Hard to bite through:p ), and took off his helmet. He reached back and grabbed his quiver and bow, strapping them on. In the bottom of the quiver was a thing of Fire of Nathos, a substance that cathes fire upon contact with H2O. He then grabbed his M-1, and walked in, taking up a position near the center of the church.

They arrived at the church shortly after Aidan, getting out.
Damien probablly look intimidating, with his BDU pants, Skull and crossbone T-Shirt, and double bandoleers with ammo belt full of .444 rounds and repeater, not to mention all the smithy and carpentry tools haanging off his belt. As he walked, a slight swish-shink could be heard as his shark suit moved under his clothes. He took up a position near the door.
His wife stepped out in grassland camo, and her rifle in her hand. She looked every bit the Marine Sniper Captain, thanks to the captains' rank markings on her shoulder. She took up a position near Aidan, recognising him as a survivalist.

"Oh christ, what the hell am I doing still walking? I have this gun right here, I killed so many with it already, why not myself?" I'd started talking to myself three days ago, after my friend, Tom, the wolf had stopped following me. Never figured out why he latched onto me, but I assume because I was the only human not trying to eat him.
Together he (I assume it was a he) and I had crossed probably almost two hundred miles on foot. We stopped at night and I talked to him, about Sarah and Teddy, about my parents, about what humanity meant. I was beginning to think that he understood it all better than I did; when one night, three nights ago, he ran off and I haven't seen him since. Come to think of it, I wasn't even sure there were wolves on this trail, I was always so damn worried about bears.
I pulled out my tobacco pouch, and rolled a cigarette using a page from the Bible. I'd pulled the fresh tobacco and the bible off of some zombie looking hill-billy I'd killed a week ago with the help of old Tom and a rail road spike. I've been trying to save my rounds for the PPK, in case the bears attacked. Ironically I'd seen no bears since I started hiking, only insane hill billies. The same hill billies that came and attacked us that night.
Sarah had been sleeping next to me, and Teddy in the tent next to ours. I had woken up to hear feet , human feet rustling the plants outside our camp. It had been the predawn hours and I'd grabbed the gun and loaded the chamber, the click had made a pause in the feet. I heard Teddy's tent unzip, and I'd assumed that he'd woken and was getting ready to defend himself, then I heard him scream, the kind of scream that you never forget (the kind I still dream about). I leapt from my tent, after unzipping the fly. I shot the first thing I saw, and it charged me. I'd never seen something move so fast. I'd called for my grandfather (10 years dead), a full blooded Cherokee, to help me, and thats when Tom had first emerged from the bushes behind me. He tackled a hill billy on my left rear flank and dragged him to the ground, I'd heard bones crack and then I pulled the trigger again. I'd been aiming for the hillbilly in front of me's chest, but improper shooting had made the bullet hit him in the head. The hill billy went down.
Then I heard it. The sound that makes me cry when I wake, and the sound that makes me wake in the night sweating, the sound of Sarah screaming. Tom bounded into my tent, and I screamed against him, but when I saw him again, he pulled another hill billy from the tent by his head and shook it until the neck snapped and the stranger was still. I saw the sun's first ebb over the horizon and ran to Sarah. No pulse, no breathing, I began CPR, no luck. Tom sat and watched Teddy.
I knew the fight for her life was over. I walked to Teddy's backpack and pulled his folding shovel. I dug Sarah's grave; deep enough so that no animal could reclaim her from the earth. I buried her.
It was after four in the afternoon by the time I'd finished digging Teddy's grave. Tom had brought three rabbits and laid them at my feet. I'd cooked them, and ate two, Tom ate the third and disappeared to hunt again. Then I heard a sound from Teddy's tent, where he still lay. I ran over, to see him sitting up.
No words, only a mindless stare into my eyes. I felt the gun on my hip still, and felt reassured. He'd risen and continued to stare at me. I backed up two steps, he'd cleared the tent and walked towards me. I backed up further. He charged me. I'd pulled my gun. He cleared the eight feet between us, in a bound. I'd emptied all seven shots into his chest in a panic. He knocked me down. I'd kicked him off and he rolled. I slammed another clip into my gun and shot up. I aimed directly for his head as he threw himself up. I shot him twice through the head. I collapsed into tears and threw up all over my knees.
Tom returned with a possum. He saw me in tears. He dropped the possum and walked to me and forced his head under my arm. He'd pushed at my face with his muzzle. I'd wrapped both arms around him and cried.
Now here I am, the only friend I have left has disappeared. All I have left is this gun. And this cigarette.
"What the fuck was that?"
I think I saw a man run toward that church. I come up around the back of the church and draw my gun. I approach the door around the corner, and the door opens quickly.
Too fast! The door hits me directly in the nose and I go down.

Father Charles O'Betts looks at the young man who he had just cold-cocked with the door. Poor soul, he thought, better get him inside. He pulled the stranger inside and managed to lift him up unto one of the pews that he had converted into beds in the makeshift shelter that had once been Our Lady of Davenport Catholic Church.
After covering the young man up, he went and got a cold compress from the small freezer he was running off the small generator that the National Guard had left him with several weeks after the outbreak. He'd heard word of certain areas still having power, but Davenport was not amongst them.
Returning to the man's side, he laid the compress across the man's forehead. He felt sorry for hitting the man, but it had been time for the weekly gas run, and the man had been unlucky enough to catch him in one of the few times when the priest rushed. He hated leaving the church and venturing out into the wasteland that had once been his city. The only thing he hated more than that though was being forced to dispatch former parishioners in his hunt for supplies that he could give the occaisonal vagrants who passed through on their searches for friends, family, a leader, salvation. They all seemed to be wandering looking for a purpose. He was contented in having found his own.
Returning to the alter where he had set up the equipment he had "borrowed" from the Christian Rock Station next door, he said a prayer for the young man, and wished him a speedy recovery.
Kara had taken a spot by a tree to watch the people in the church. She wasn't about to just walk in and let the various men she'd noticed have thier way with her.
As it was, they way she'd seen things, woman had survived in far fewer numbers than men, which lead her to think it would mean one of two things, that women would become servile broodmares or regal broodmares, and she wasn't too thrilled with either option.

"I am still alive," I whispered to myself, "fuck."
I sat up quickly and looked around. Rows of pews on all sides. "Fuck, I haven't been in one these in years."
I check through my backpack, which is beside the pew. Its intact. The scotch is still okay. Sarah would kill me if I drank it without her.
I begin to cry again. I stand up and walk back to the church's kitchen. The generator seems to be running, I notice, as the refridgerator is still running. I'm starving.
"Please let their be some ham in here," reminding me of when Teddy had killed the boar on the trail.
I open the door, and thank humanity, there is the best thing that has ever been known to the world: Bass Ale, cold.
At least thirty of them, whoever had saved me must have had good taste. Then I see it.
Better than ham, better than steak.
Bacon. Obviously left over, in plastic wrap. I open it and eat every bit of it.
I return to the pew and drink my Bass and realize how long its been since I had a good beer.
Three Bass later, I pass out on my pew.

Rolled and in my mouth, I lit the cigarette before even looking at the pulpit. I, looked at the pulpit and saw two men shaking hands, spit the cigarette from my mouth and coughed. Picking it back up I took a long drag and approached the pulpit. "Hello?"

I approached the building 200 trots behind the biped that called himself Harrison. After the smell of living biped I'd decided to leave until I was needed. I took shelter in the treeline behind the structure. Even since I had heard that cry, "Grandfather, please help me!" I had attained some new level of ability in my mind. I was still what I was before, but now I understood so much more.
Visions of bipeds clogged my mind anytime I let my new found mind wander. Tiny bipeds being born, frail bipeds closing their eyes while others leaked from their eyes.
All I know now is that this biped is the only one that I can help, the others are all ready to attack me. When the biped known as Harrison was hit on the head and fell, I ran to help him and to kill whatever was dragging him into the building. But the door slammed shut and I had no choice but to sniff the air for the scent of death.
No scent so far from inside the structure, I will wait here in the treeline until then to kill anything that would harm the biped Harrison.

Frank could just make out the church, a few kilometres away. A week ago the Whispers had gifted him with a snatch of radio conversation, survivors were meeting at a church. Frank's heart had soared at the prospect of human contact. But more importantly, the whispers said that the Cure was that way, and had encouraged Frank by telling him that the no Rotten One could stand in his way.
He readjusted his pack as he reached the church grounds
"Anybody home!" Yes, good Frank, they must not know how you came to discover them, they will fear us and the gift we have given you. Hide us! Protect us! And watch them, always watch them...

"Whoa! We-- I am Frank Morris... I saw light and I figured I'd check it out..." Frank dropped his hammer, the sight of the gore-caked weapon must have bothered the guy. He then slouched off his pack slowly. Then the Whispers spoke: This one is blind, he is our friend, you are safe Frank.

I saw a man approach the structure. I trotted slowly toward him and he didn't seem to hear me. He seemed transfixed on something else. As I approached him to kill him, I heard a yell from the field. I retreat back to the treeline.
Upon returning I perk my ears to hear everything that happens around me.
Frank gasped, the Whispers were in an uproar, a thousand voices bombarded him. The Cure, the Cure, it is near you, so near Frank, turn to it! Find it! Frank cried out and collapsed as blood began to trickle from his nose.

Stan walked through the door to the church, and crossed himself as he did so. It had been a long time since he had last been in a church, but now seemed a very appropriate time for religion. Looking around at the small group of people (although it was the largest group of living people he'd seen since the outbreak) he felt a terrible weight lift from his mind. Just being around these people eased his fears, and brought him back from the brink.
At the front of the church, stood the priest who had called them all there. Stan walked up the length of the church, and sat in the first row of pews.
The Priest walked up to the alter, and asked, "Would you all move closer, there's plenty of room right here in the front row.
"There are a few things I would like to share with you."
Frank watched as a haunted looking man walked into the church, dark thoughts seemed to swirl visibly around his head. Frank closed his eyes and the apparitions were gone. The Whispers spoke to him then: Yes, this one has been to the edge, has looked into the abyss, another Disciple Frank, he knows of us, he denied our gift. Why does everyone insist on using guns? It seems to me that swords(wazikashi) would be more effective as you dont have to be a skilled shooter to use them and there is no ammunition problem- you just need kevlar or leather so you cant be bitten

Percy had just sat there by himself, not saying much, and thinking.... even though he was a football player, he is very smart, he thought he could maybe think of an idea.... anything.
" I really, really think we need to get out of here, That convoy idea early is great, i have my two seater, and there is many other cars. We should try to find some type of food though."
"Who are you?" She asked the lab coated woman.

The doctor looked up at the young woman in the treefort, and replied, "My name is Janine. It would be a good idea for us all to get out of this area very soon. More of the creeps are coming, and I don't want to be around when they get here. Do you?"
There it is now. For almost two weeks, he has been walking along this road, thankfully not encountering any of those demons that now populate the Earth. His daughter, who thankfully was not infected, was passed out in his arms. thankfully, she's light.
He noticed the church, and saw the lights on, people moving inside. Thank God, actual life. His dark read coat swept along the ground, erasing the footprints his boots left in the dirt.
Even though it was nighttime, he still wore his black oval sunglasses, to hide the scar over his right eye.
His Zambatou was strapped to his back at the moment. He used to carry a pistol on the side of his leg, but he lost the holster and the pistol on the journey, and he also was carrying Yunalesca's staff on his back, also. He swallowed a bit, and realized he was dehydrated.
Auron walked up to the church and knocked on the door.
OOC: I'm assuming ya'll are still in the church.
And sorry for the sucky post.
Percy heard a knock at the door, he was unsure weather to answer it or not.... he grabbed the pocket knife out of his back pocket, went to a side window, and checked to see, if he could see anyone, he couldnt. He slowly opened the door, and was relieved to see that there was some more non-infected people. He welcomed them into the church and asked "What are your names"

Damien turned to see the undead beast coming at him from a direction he didn't expect.
He fired, but the bullet missed.
He grabbed his Splitting Axe, but not in time. The beast grabbed hold of his arm, and bit down. However, it didn't go through. The teeth where stopped by the bite resistant steel mesh he had hidden under his clothes. In the split second of confusion, Damien brought the axe down on it's head, cleaving it in two.
Looking down in disgust, he tore off his sleeve, revealing the Shark Feeding Suit he wore underneath his clothes.

She turned to the man who stood with her on the ground. "Will you at least leave this place with me?"
Auron nodded and walked in the door. "Thank you." When he heard the door close behind him, he looked for an open spot to lay his daughter down, eyeing some floor near the back, taking off his red overcoat (which seemed more like a long robe) and folding it up as a pillow for her. His ripped black undershirt exposed an arm that wasn't bulging with muscle, but you could tell he packed much more punch than he let on.
After he layed his daughter down (who didn't take up a lot of room (she was fairly skinny)), putting her staff beside her, he looked up at the man.
"I am Auron Braska, and this is my daughter, Yunalesca."

Percy was a wallflower... he just sat there. He stared at the scar from his knee injury and wondered if it would slow him down. He thought he would need another type of weapon other than the swiss army knife his father had gave him. He asked "Does anyone have any type of long range weapon, like a gun that i could have, all I have is my swiss army knife, which is kinda useless against a horde of zombies methinks."
Auron glared at Janine, although through his sunglasses, it was difficult to tell. "Don't tease with my daughter's life."
Auron was a very down-to-earth and cynical person, yet he cared greatly for those who were close to him. Because of the way he acted, not talking very much and very to-the-point, he often seemed to come across as ungreatful and cold.
When Yuna finally came around, she coughed a bit and opened her eyes which sparkled a little despite her near comatose state. He flung her arms around her father, her robes flowing a little with the sudden movement. Auron embraced her daughter and helped her stand up. She grabbed her staff to give herself a little support. Auron took back his overcoat/robe and put it over him once more, his left arm tucked in it and resting almost like a sling, his sword on his back, the handle pointing over his right shoulder. His thick standing collar came up and covered his face up to his nose gave him a more serious, rugged look, contrasting the innocent and beautiful daughter.
Auron glanced at the Zombie Survival Guide and grunted in disapproval, but voiced nothing else. Instead, he walked over to the priest.

It was the first time I had smelled it, since running across the biped known as Harrison. The smell of living flesh that didn't threaten me. My paws ached to run to this new smell and greet it, but there were other scents around that I couldn't determine.
I stalked my way closer to the new smell, trying to keep the scent of my biped near enough to keep track of. It was then on the breeze that I caught the scent, the scent of death. Walking Death. I crouched, to let it approach closer, so I could determine how to kill it.

Percy thought that was the dumbest idea ever. He said " California is the most populated state. That mean we will come across more zombie then we would if we went to Canada, which has less people that California does, we need to stay away from these things, not get closer to them"

"The thing is, that most people are probably going to stay put. Either that or move to the Midwest area. If we pull the zombies with us, we could wind up getting rid of who knows how many Ghouls in those swamps. When the attack had happened, Mark had merely leant his 'staff' and shotgun against the pew and drawn his sawn-off, it wouldn't be good at range but if any got into the church he would kill them easily enough, then switch to the 12-gauge if he didn't have time to reload. As it happened, only one made it through and as he was about to shoot it, it was blasted through the roof. He had raised an eyebrow, but hadn't been particularly surprised.
"Anymore out there?" He asked, if not he thought he had seen something fall from the zombie as it hurtled upwards, it landed on the roof and he was considering investigating, he began heading towards the door to the belltower that was mentioned earlier, they usually have ways onto the roof.

"Fair enough, i'll keep an ear out, if anyone needs me i'm going for a walk" He said this as he began climbing the stairs to the belltower, looking for a door to the roof.

"OK, this is getting weird." Sloan decided,. "Could somebody help me with these bags?!?" he asked desperatly, beating away zombies with a Jesus, broken off from a large crucifix.

Percy though that Sloan must have been seeing things because there was no more zombies." What the fuck are you doing, you cook, there is no more zombies man."
