World Cup Introduction:

For more information on the World Cup, it's History, how it works, who runs it, and the competitions related to it, check out the World Cup Wiki Site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup)

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to Start its 19th competition. Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is 150 (the Current 'best team in the world' is Rejistania, with a rank of 1) See::KPB Rankings (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/KPB_ranking_system)

Scores are generated using either a Java program or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, weighted by ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire and Colony Cup). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved or this happening. i.e. Two debutant, Rank 150, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer. - Originally Produced by Starblaydia

"But," said someone who just happened to be walking by at the time, "we've got those young players who played in the last Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football, that's the Premier Regional Football Tourament in the World!"

"Um. Thanks," the Chief said, "whoever you are. Anyway send a message: Nova Britannicus, the puppet of Starblaydia, will be entering their.. uh... fourth cup? Yeah, that's it. Fourth Cup."

The Gabalfa Observer
15th February 2005

Following a flood of supportive calls to the Bettia FA, President Brooks announced outside the newly-constructed national stadium in downtown Gabalfa that the newly-formed nation will apply to enter a team into the next 'Baptism of Fire' tournament. "Well, it'll be good for a laugh," said the ever-verbose leader, "Anything that gets the nation together can only be good".

Supporters on the street seemed equally enthusiastic about their country's prospects. Bob Turpin, 27 from Endunn, said "Even though we aint got none international experience loike, oi reckon our boys could do a proper job at this level".

First of all, TnUI did a crappy job of making the thread last time. Second of all, I didnt start this thread. And third of all, Regardless of who started this thread, TnUI is one of 3 people who have access to this account, so if he wants to do it, then he can. Fourth of all, he'd have to ask Cockbill Street, the person running the current cup, as they are the one that started this thread. Fifth of all, Don't accuse me of doing something that you don't even know I did, thanks. And who the hell is "We"?

If you aren't the one who started this thread then how come you and Turori are the first signups?

And how on earth did he do a crappy job?

And the signup thread has nothing to do with the host of the cup.

And well, if you don't want me to say we, that is fine, but there is at least one other person that agrees with me.

V, you may have won the cup, but don't get ahead of yourself.

Riiiiight, don't you just look like an idiot. Well done. What's that I do too? I don't care, at least I'm not the one attacking someone because of my personal opinion of them, despite the fact that they did nothing wrong, except *gasp* happening to be the first one that hit reply on the signup sheet. But holy crap. Liverpool England, South Osettia AND Starblaydia signed up at the SAME EXACT TIME AS ME! that must mean they all made this post as well! because *gasp* we were all the first to sign up. Get off your high horse. If you want to accuse me of something, get the facts first. And you're better off doing it in private. If you do it in private, i'll respond in private. Do it in public and I'll make a fool out of both of us.
Cockbill Street
15-02-2005, 21:38
Okay...calm down.

Yes, I started sign-ups.

Yes, I may have done it too early, but the reasoning is that WC 21 sign-ups are closed (owing to the fact that a) we have a decent number of teams and b) I don't want unranked nations in the cup), and I want anyone who comes in and sees the World Cup to have somewhere to sign-up for the next one.

Hey my question was answered. I made a mistake and am the first one to admit it, but you have to admit it looked like you started the thread, consdering the person who starts the thread is usually the first to sign up. Am I not right?

Next, you haven't answered my question. How did TnUI do crappy job?

It is also true that the signup thread doesn't have anything to do with the host, and you have not disputed that.

Finally, V, you're the one who jumped down my throat. Stop acting like a prize fool!

And CS, fairy nuff. I didn't have a big problem with it, just that it seemed unusual.
Chicanada
16-02-2005, 02:52
Cockbill Street, is that why Chicanada is not listed as a competing in World Cup XXII yet, since we might have a ranking after BOF/WCXXI?

Just curious to know since I thought we signed up right after Spaam and we're not listed.
Sonaron
16-02-2005, 02:56
Sonaron signs up (there, not IC this time, everyone happy?) for our second world cup.

Also, I think I can safely say that if I ever have a hosting bid, it won't be with South Osettia. Think about the acronyms. SOS SOSO ... just not good acronyms for a World Cup hosting bid...

I never said he did a crappy job, i said he screwed up the thread itself. I never said the signup thread had anything to do with the host, so thats why I didnt respond. You indicated that the person that started this thread (when you assumed it was me) was doing a disservice to the world cup 21 hosts as that cup hadnt even started and this person was already starting the next signups. I was just pointing out the irony in your assumtion, as the person who started this thread WAS the same person that was being infringed upon by starting the thread so early.

And I think I deserved every right to jump as far down your throat as I wanted, don't tell me I'm the one that jumped down your throat, when you couldnt even sign up for the world cup without jumping down my throat accusing me of screwing up your perfect fantasy where everything is done the way you want it, when the only thing I was guilty of was happening to be online to get my World Cup Final score at the same time that someone else started the signup thread. I'm sorry I didnt plan ahead and say "Oh wait, I should sign up later just incase someone accuses me of starting this thread! oh no!"

Hey, people like it when the hosts' initials spell out things. SOLE has fishy connotations (sp?), and that's probably why everybody voted for us (that and the fact we were the only bid). Besides, with an acronym like SOS, it makes for good RPing possibilities.

Like we have said, Arriddia has no authority to implement a rule without a WCC Vote. The unwritten rule is 1 in 3, I dont see any reason to extend it to 4, for no reason at all.

RULE PROPOSAL:

A host, once they have hosted a World Cup, cannot host for another THREE World Cup. (e.g. Cockbill Street and Lethislavania, WC21 hosts, cannot host again until WC24). This is to increase to FOUR World Cups if both bidding nations have hosted a previous World Cup. (e.g. if Druida wanted to host with CS, they would have to wait until WC25). "Hosts" includes actual hosts and puppets.

V? Shut up.

P2G, while I can understand your reluctance to compete in a World Cup that is hosted by a nation that you do not like (eg any competition hosted by TBF), you can always request that your scores NOT be generated by that person. It would be a major shame to see you not compete. And if it is because of, say, V, then just do what I do. Tell him to shut up and the ignore him :D

What I didn't say earlier that I may as well say now is that there is RL stuff that is making me wonder if it would be in my best interest to leave NS to deal with that. Plus, I know that I'm going to be gone all summer with no computer access, so my nation would cease at that time anyway. I'm still considering what course of action is in my best interest, and will likely have a decision around the same time that qualifying ends. So, with all due respect LE, I am going to leave my posts (at least for now).

Not if the rule I have proposed goes through. Finrods has been in more World Cups then it has posts on this forums. I would move to propose a nation-specific addition to this rule. If you do not provide at least a roster for this nation that has been in about 7 World Cups without so much as a roster, or any kind of RP, that this nation be subject to the proposed puppet regulation and not be accepted into World Cup 22.

Make sure you check out the Wiki site on the World Cup before interevening in such a way, and regardless, new entrants are not allowed to bid to host the event, even if they had plans on how to produce results. They're all very new nations and have all signed up for the cup within a short time. They all share the same birthday (according to the Jolt user pages) of November 30th. Two are from the Region of Nudity, and one from Carol Stream.

Though they are all UN nations, we'd (Vilita raised this point, but I'm posting this because he's going out) like some kind of proof they aren't the same user. If you are all three different users and its one huge coincidence, of course, then my profuse apologies for the uber-suspicion.

Maybe Nov 30th is the default for some unknown reason  Anyway, no problems with that at all, its just that you're only allowed one nation per user in your first cup, that's all.

It's a case of the the more active people the merrier in the World Cup. Unfortunately the rule is that you can't host the World Cup in your first Cup as it takes a little while to get used to all this craziness.

Call me stupid, but what does RP mean?

RP stands for Roleplay, the very escence of what happens on the Nationstates and International Incidents forms.

Read some of the World Cup 21 RP Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=399019) to get an idea of what people do.

Or, from the FAQ I linked to:

What is RolePlay?

-------It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches: team rosters, player interviews, match reports and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning as most hosts add an RP Bonus to the calcuations. Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved of this happening. i.e. Two debutant, Rank 150, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated with RPs should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

-------RPing, is what the NS forums are all about. RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, training incidents, anything about the game, the team or the sport, as long as you've kept to the score as Posted or Telegrammed to you by the Host/Scorer.

-------Rosters: The Roster/Team List/Depth Chart is a very importand RP, as it allows you and your opponents to write more realistic RPs by using player's name, rather than just their position. You can include a graphic of your team's kit/uniform, write a short (or long) biography about each player, add ages, number of goals scored, number of appearances, talk about the coaching staff, anything.

IC: Due to the currently unstable political and military climate in Talzeckia, we regretfully inform the WCC of our intent to withdraw from the World Cup at this time.

OOC: Just so everyone knows this isn't a fit of pique or anything, I'm pulling Talzeckia out because I need to RP a war thread with it and I really can't devote the time necessary to RP both Talzeckia and Sarzonia. Besides, my comp makes it VERY difficult to transfer between the two accounts. Finally, I'd rather give the opportunity to a promising newb rather than clog up the World Cup qualifying spot that could have been given to one.

If this causes too much of a bind to the eventual hosts or the WCC, I can stay on with both Talzeckia and Sarzonia, but I'd rather just use Sarzonia at least for now.

I wish for my team to participate in the Baptism of Fire competition. Is there a thread already created for this? Or do we just express our interest here?

It's part of the World Cup, actually. You already had signed up for it when you signed up in this thread. If you hadn't specified you wanted to play in the BoF also, then you'd want to say something if you do, but you're good.

Is this going to start any time soon?

The runoff vote for WC22 hosts is scheduled to finish today, I believe. After that, it shouldn't take too long.

Is there a sign up for WC23 yet?

Nope (at least not that I'm aware of). Expect it to appear right around the time WC22 begins.

Once Arry makes the re-vote public then its up to the hosts whenever this thing gets going.

As for WC23 sign-ups, they'll probably start during the qualifying of WC22. Which hasn't sttarted yet. So just hold your horses.

Druida signed up quite clearly in post #10 of this thread and have not (to my knowledge, at least) withdrawn. Please add Druida to the list then please.

By the way, wouldn't it have been a good idea to have got the BoF going a good while ago in plenty of time for the cup itself. Only it means more and more delays. Somebody just get on with it!!!

The BoF cannot start without a complete list of eligible participants, provided by the hosts. This is being completed now by South Osettia. The reason for the delay was the extention of the host selection process, which was originally delayed by the election of president, and had even still started much later than usual due potentially to the ongoing discussion about the method of choosing the host.

For all non-networmish enough to know who they are: Abysmalistan are 'the abysmals', they excel at being rubbish.

They like to not-win and not-draw. Rejistania, historically, can go undefeated, while the Abysmals will get nothing but defeated. Going into the BoF will raise their rank and mean they won't not-win some of their games, shock of all shocks.

Abysmals forever!

Generally, if you have already participated in the World Cup, your team would be ineligable to compete in the Baptism of Fire. You would have to either make and control yourself a new nation or just work from wherever you are ranked from the last cup.
