The darkened sea sloshes in the night, dashing the wreckage of boats near the cliffs, and the calls of the gulls are the only break in the midnight gloom. The moon flits from behind the clouds, casting the bone-white light upon the raging surf, and the monster arises from the deep-

That is not dead which may eternal lie, in strange aeons even death may die.

K-stan Lives Again!
But I promise, I won't eat the world.

Post coming within a day, and you may see me flitting about the forums soon!

The Keep - OOC DESCRIPTION

Once the grand center of a lordship, this central European and gothically styled castle has fallen into decay. The main gate into the Great Hall is welded shut, as are many side doors. The entrance to the kitchen and to the stables are rotted wood, and are only nailed closed, but guarded with Claymore devices. If you remain outside, you will be attacked by HORDES of ravagers, not just a few.

The kitchen has been remodeled into a garrison cookery, but there is ten year old food rotted away, and mauled bodies inside. Again, there are bodies and equipment, as the people inside were suddenly and brutally mauled by the Ravagers and other loose creatures, which came from the center of the Keep. There are obvious signs of struggle, and there are also a few dead Ravagers.

The stable is rotted and mostly gone, leaving only ghosts behind, and perhaps a few corpses.

The Great Hall was the site of a massive battle some years ago. Originally built with tables laid out between columns, featuring massive fireplaces and tapestries, with a dais for the lords and ladies, the old feasting hall has been remade as a staging center and common area, with various network nodes and ten-year-old “cutting edge” equipment of the day, designed for the nerve center of some complex. The entire facility is dead, and there are small, cylindrical devices affixed to the hard-drive archives and memory banks, some sort of personal EMP devices that were used to erase the data in the facility. There are again, bodies and scenes of battle, but there are definite signs of a second party blowing in the doors to the hall and “cleaning up” the computers.

From the hall, all other rooms are accessible, and there is a sealed power door, which still has power after the EMP, so it is shielded against it. The only access through this airlock is with an access card, either the Engineering card from the Guardhouse, or one from this facility.

In the bedrooms and quarters in the upper sections of the castle (spiral stair access), there are modern communications arrays, and in the tower, there is a network node that still has power…

The Tower was originally a prison, but it was reinvented as first, a radio tower, and later, as a satellite uplink. During the attack of the Ravagers, the occupants of the room closed the gridiron door, sealing themselves in. They survived the Ravager attack, but later starved to death in this room. The clean-up teams never made it into the room, but instead rolled grenades through the grate and blew the comms gear to smithereens. If you can get in, there is a plug-and-play disk that can reboot a piece of the network, and allow you to see the Complex.

Things to Find

The Tower has the Network Node and Harddrive you can replace in the computer network, and boot one of the machines, which will give you access to a map of and underground complex, as well as security videos, which I will write up and post if you “play them”.

There are numerous firearms and medieval weapons lying about the building.

There are powered access doors at several points, blocking off the old cellars, the unknown door in the Great Hall, and the lowering stairs. There are cameras, all dead, throughout the building, and there are broken electrified kennels in a side chamber.

Bodies, bodies, everywhere. All information has been ripped from the corpses by a clean up team.

A Security Access Card can be found in one of the bedrooms, stuck into a floorboard at the site of the battle, hidden below a corpse. He is wearing an unknown uniform (NovaGen) that is unlike the Adamarian uniforms found everywhere else, and his sidearm is a highly exotic model Gyrojet Pistol. Obviously out of place.

Enemies

Ravagers roam this area relatively often, but not in the hordes seen in the courtyard.

Corpses that aren’t dead may be seen, but only one or two. Not zombies in the horror movie sense, but these “bodies” are not decayed and will attempt to stand and attack blindly. They have no sentience, and little coordination. They shuffle, they swing blunt objects, they’re dumb as rocks, but they won’t stay dead until their lower brainstem is destroyed. They are not contagious, and they don’t eat people.
-----If you kill one, you should find metallic powder in their bodies, and shining “weathervane-like” attachments on the spine. This spinal implant is the driving force in the “zombie” movement.

Globs. Several rooms should be filled with a sticky, smelly sludge. This sludge will break down biological mass it encounters, and moves towards vibration. It is unkillable, and unstoppable. Fortunately, it’s not sentient, and it moves at all of one foot an hour. It will “flow” through hallways very slowly, seeking vibration, but will not make its own path, and will avoid natural sunlight. (The UV rays.) Just don’t step in it, or it WILL crawl up and slowly eat you. To get it off, you’re probably going to have to cut the limb free. Remember, it likes vibration, but cannot see, smell, hear, or taste.

NOTE:
To get through the doors, you'll need to hack into the network node (which WILL set off silent alarms), gain either the Engineering or Security cards (hard to find), or cut/blow through (time consuming and easy targets). Also, the network is unstable and mostly dead, you cannot access out beyond the old feeds, some progress reports, trying to hack doors/security, and playing minesweeper. There is no external access or internet connection, just a "Satellite Uplink Unavailable" message. Trying to connect to another network might work, but it will auto-alarm and bring shocktroops on your asses faster than "poof".

Bear witness to the horror in paint. This is a REALLY rough map.

Travis is at the NovaGen Facility.
The rest are at Kugel.
Tristan is prisoner in the encampment.
Bue... uh, that's up to you.

The Dogs of War is in the lower right corner of the City. Sorry I didn't show it. Once I fix the map, it will have more. Ask if you need to know!

On the phone message from Richter...

You won't be able to get it until you leave the Castle, or until you deactivate the jamming field that's coming from the subterranean complex. The Castle is a "dead zone" for almost all communications.

OK, I'm back! Glad to see this is still alive.

Unfortunately, I'm now 'dead', so Rinceweed, you're on your own. I killed all the Ravengers for you, though, so that's a small thing. I will be back...meanwhile, I'll keep a close eye on events.

16-02-2005, 23:48
Well, as you all know, I can't draw for shit, so no pictures. I do, however, have written descriptions for these creatures. These are recylced from earlier pages in this OOC thread, just brought to the fore for reference. (Pages 11 and 13, respectively.)

Enemies
-Waking: Not zombies in the horror movie sense, but these “bodies” are not decayed and will attempt to stand and attack blindly.

-Gelforms: Several rooms should be filled with a sticky, smelly sludge. This sludge will break down biological mass it encounters, and moves towards vibration. It is invulnerable, and unstoppable.

-Autoguns: Triggered by the Security Grid, these are miniguns with ammo to spare and lightning targeting. Armored and deadly, the best defense is to not trip them off.

-Unexploded Ordnance: Old grenades, landmines, and claymores are smattered about, particularly near the holes in the walls and the normal doors. These are horrific outside the Guardhouse and Wall, on either side.

-Ravagers: A genetically engineered better guard-“dog”, these are the failures of the old experiment, and they’ve gone feral. About the size of a Great Dane, they are much more massive, possessing extendable six-inch metal claws, a vice-like jaw capable of crushing a brick with ease, and scaled armor for skin. Their claws and teeth are poisonous, causing dementia and paralysis within minutes, followed by death within hours, unless treated. The Atropine found in the area should work, but you’ll have to figure that out first, and it has to be delivered directly into the wound, or, if more than a few seconds have passed, under the armpit into the heart. (They’re auto-injectors, not needles, though.) Ravagers are pack-animals, and are never found alone. (I would NOT recommend engaging more than four.) They can run at speeds nearing 55km/h, and sustain this for several minutes flat out. They can vault over five times their own height. They keep attacking, even wounded, until they are completely taken out of commission. However, they will break off an attack (unless a nest is threatened) at the sight of easier prey, such as another body or a slower runner. They will not eat each other. Their eyesight is pitiful, but their hearing and smell is insanely good. They are NOT domesticate-able.

There are smaller security doors, with fold out bridges.

Wow...I hate to spam like this Kauk, but I can't help but noticing how...similar our RP's are...lol.

I'm not accusing you of anything, don't get me wrong, I'm just impressed. Experiments on other races, "not-zombies," it's hilarious how close certain concepts can be. I'm going to have to take some time and read over what you have.

There's a link to my most recent thread regarding my (six threads so far) ongoing story in my sig if you're interested, and all the others are in the archives, including a three-part civil war.

Either way, I won't be posting again so not to spam anymore. Have a good day.

Uh, guys, I can't move this RP any further along. It's in your field, people.

Eh, just FYI, the latest post was in the MAIN NovaGen Facility, not below the Castle. This place was built in response to the disaster at the place ya'll are currently in. Just a heads up.

I've been trying to leave what the other players can't see or learn of "off camera", but the thread seems to be grinding to death, so I'm going to start chucking the other events into the story. Please, people, lets MOVE this thing, it's really good and I don't want to see it die before it's midlife crisis.
