Character RP Idea (Any Character Allowed): OOC

As noted, all posts in this thread are OOC.

Now, here's the rough point... my nation is doing some horrible stuff to other species. Okay, that sounds bad. Let's try this:

The Internal Security Agency has been kidnapping "Aberrations" (translation: rare-nonhumans/metahumans), and performing sentient testing on them. This is hidden deep from the general public, which would oppose it violently. Now, the ISA Paranormal Division is particularly interested in acquiring unique and exceedingly rare aberrations, particularly those with special traits. This thread would focus on the activities of one Field Commander Riven, and his activities, where I would be playing as the "bad guys" and the other players would be playing as the protagonists, trying to find out what is going on.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, because this does deal with abberant species, the normal restrictions on reality are going to be loosened. You can go ahead and use semi-power-characters. However, no demi-gods or such, as this is a somewhat realistic style of RP, with fictional species.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

For the setting, I'll construct a new non-RP'ing nation, and make the rules there-in. The various players will be either visitting/from this nation, or chasing after the kidnappings for some reason. In this nation, the ISA Paranormal will have multiple levels of mercenaries doing the dirty work, except in high-level situations. Because of this, you won't find an ISA officer anytime soon, and they will probably (definately) suicide rather than talk if you do manage to subdue them. For the most part, you'll be dealing with gangs and mercs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Because this RP is a spin-off and backstory to the main story arc I'm writing, certain characters have to live, and these are:

1.)Field Commander Riven (you can wound him, though, if you find him)
2.)Any of his superiors (who won't even be in the RP, just mentioned)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Accordingly, since this is a darker-toned RP, and will be rated R, do not bring characters you want to keep. Expect to get captured if you mess with the Paranormal Operatives. People will die. People will be tortured. There will be language. Civilians will become Red Shirts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I'm far more concerned with a good story than wanking off characters, so I'm pretty loose with the RP rules. If, in the course of the RP, you're talking to a character I'm using, just have them answer appropriately, so we're not pausing for each line of dialogue. Make up stuff in the nation, so long as it fits, and just write good posts.

Go ahead, move characters around, kill people (unless they're given a backstory, then, ask first). Just keep the gritty, "what-the-hell-is-going-on" feel.

What We Still Need
This is the list so far. I was away for a few days (damn you, Grand Theft Auto) but now I'm ready to continue this planning.

Please indicate species, and alignment of your characters, as well as if they are fodder, possible-kill, or "please don't whack".

I need more tourists, some local Police, and some cannon fodder, please.

This is a feedback/signup thread.

I think I'll call the nation Adamaria, and make it an Eastern European style country, post-USSR collapse in feel. It's relatively open to the nonhumans, but there's a rooted bigotry beneath the surface, which the Kaukolastani ISA exploits and uses to cover behind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible Character Roles:
Local Police Officer - An old detective or a rookie constable, he/she takes/is-given the assignment to follow up on a kidnapping. Despite his/her own misgivings about "semi-humans", he/she takes the assignment and falls into a web too massive to contemplate. Falls out of favor with friends as he/she digs deeper, and realizes that he's crossed too many lines, gone too deep, and finds him/herself running from his own people.

Private Investigator - Hired by a wealthy family from out of country, to search for a missing relative. As he/she digs in, the threats begin, and conspiracy and corruption is unveiled. The PI soons finds him/herself on the lam, trying to keep from becoming the next "Missing Person".

Tourist - Simply saw too much, and is now in the crosshairs of ever-increasingly lethal attacks (don't expect to live long). The only goal is to survive, to run away... and perhaps later, to find out why.

Mercenary - Hired by another, he's pulling the worst shifts, taking down pseudo-humans and watching buddies get killed. But why are they doing this, who's paying? Moral issues conflict with payment, and the mercenary is soon his own target.

Mercenary Variant - You don't care, and you can't stand these "sub-humans". All this pretty-boy talking about morality just pisses you off, and you can't wait to stick it to the next person who wimps out taking down some scumbag sub-human.

Go ahead, make stuff up, these are just ideas. I hope most people will play as outsiders and protagonists, but I won't mind a few characters playing as the ISA's Mercenaries or Gangs, or as local officials/residents. You can take any side, but we need more victims than investigators, and more investigators than instigators.

Ooo, looks fun. My main role-play character is a detective for the Kripo/Kriminal Polizei in my country, but he travels a lot. Would it be alright if I were to use him if I were able to join? By the way, he usually has a junior detective with him. Maybe he could come and die? MUHAHAhaha.a.. Sorry.

Okay, here:

Oberleutnant Willi Strausser, Buechoria Kripo. You can punch him, break his fingers and peel his skin off and I will not care as long as he doesn't die.

His faithful assistant, Alex Schmidt, may die somewhere, though I'd enjoy it if he and Strausser could form a bit of a teacher/student friendship for the most dramtic effect when he is killed... Muhahaha...?

Example Post - This is not the final version, but gives some idea of the tone and setting.

The rain was coming down harder now, the black drops hurling themselves against the puddle cobblestone in miniature explosions. The torrent descended from the black skies, still stained from the industrial plants rusting outside of the city. Lighting crashed, freeze-framing a million droplets against the sooty flashbulb, the darkened windows of the imposing square shining milky in the night.

Below, the people pulled their overcoats to their chest, tucking their hats down to redirect the onslaught of water. The hustling splash of the people was drowned out by the roar of a diesel engine as a boxy brown truck rolled past, hurling the dirty streams onto the sidewalks. Another bolt of lightning illuminated the courtyard, reflecting from the gargoyles on the cathedral and bouncing from the columns of the courthouse. The thunderclap echoed through the stone and steel, the dirty post-industrial capital of Adamaria.

Once a bustling nation-state, the small princedom had lost its independence nearly a half century before, in the aftermath of the Second World War, consumed by the iron juggernaut of the USSR. Fifty years of Communist dictatorship had not served Adamaria well, and it had grown dependant upon the Rodina, incapable of maintaining its culture under the omniscient eye of the NKVD and later KGB. It had become a tank stop, a resource for iron ore and copper mining, and the ravenous patterns of strip mining had set to the forests and lakes.

The diminutive but wealthy nation was rent barren and fallow, its fields turned to pits, its forests to grid-work, and its cities into Production Centers. In return, the nation had received the “priority” protection of the USSR, and soon became home to several divisions of the Red Army. Throughout the days of the Cold War, Adamaria was a military depot on a national scale, a resupply station for the entire Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

But in the end, the ore was stripped clean, the copper exhausted. And, when the USSR began to collapse, the Red Army had pulled out the only remaining source of capital. With the life support stripped away, Adamaria began to slowly die, collapsing into a depression of both economic and morale scale.

Thirty years had passed, and Adamaria was little more than a speck on the map. Possessing no resources to exploit, the international community had walked away, offering only lip service to the dying nation, washing their hands in patriotic waters. But other interests had found Adamaria in national stead…

With a dire need for capital and little help from the world, the government of Adamaria had allowed the immigration of corporations who needed a safe house from global eye, and to the criminal element, which found a haven in the shattered nation. Adamaria began to build an economy, dependant on illicit corporate practices and downright deviant criminal behaviors. Anything went in the corpse of Adamaria.

And so, one national concern did find use in the shattered nation…

The acid rain skipped from the rooftop, turning to steam on impact. In another flash of lightning, a form was illuminated… a gray poncho over a man with field glasses, his face as grim as the scene around him. The man lowered his binoculars, eyeballing the road below. The rain vanished into the fog at knee level, and the chill wind cut to the bone. The people below tried to close their greatcoats, but it could not keep out the soul-eroding cold. A small red sign blinked, the last letter shorting out.

As the sparks fell to the cobblestones, the man tapped his cheek. “Mark, ten-niner, heading onto Balivou.”

On another roof top, nearing the outskirts of the rusting hulks of dead industry, two men lay in the freezing puddle along the building edge. One raised glasses, the other rested his hand on a M99 .50 Sniper Rifle, his eye glowing from the infrared scope’s light. The spotter spoke, “Roger dodger, we have the mark. North on Balivou… he’s stopping at the adult bookstore. He’s looking at the door… Bear, get target.”

The sniper raised his rifle, the matte barrel poking over a bipod. In the scope, the stained building stone rushed past, emptying into a lane, drawing up on a man… then another… then the target. The crosshair settled on the target’s chest, resting with deadly calm as the sniper held his breath. “Acquired.”

The spotter scowled. “He’s moving again… heading into the old Zobidov Refinery Complex. Looks like a mark… ready contact team.” The spotter lowered his glasses, and the sniper continued to track the oblivious target.

The Zobidov Complex had once been a massive iron-ore refinery and smelter, turning out high grade steel. Now, it was a ghost town, a dense urban jungle of corroding gangways and abandoned blast furnaces. Rust ran around the jagged pieces of scrap metal, and the towers stood as silent sentinels to this industrial graveyard. Broken belts and pipes led to shattered railroads and silent depots, while shadows flitted about the recesses of the old machinery.

The target stepped onto a plate of old plating, using it to cross a stream of rainwater and some foul chemical. The land was dead here, poisoned by a million substances left in the Complex. She looked left and right, smirked slightly. This was the kind of place that men feared to tread, with talk of ghouls and ghosts. The hardest mercenaries in Adamaria, of which there were many, avoided Zobidov at every opportunity. Here, in the pouring rain and crashing light, the effect was magnified, each monstrosity magnified by the snarl of nature’s judgment. But, she did not fear. She was feared. She was the manifest horror.

Her boots struck the fallow ground, the mud giving away. Pulling out lightly, she stepped again onto the metal gangway, cautious of the corroded portions. This place was condemned, but no one had the money to finish the task. Still, it served her purposes.

She was approaching the rendezvous, her pale flesh pulling back along sharp teeth. Why the hell did Ivan want to meet here? There’s no need for this skullduggery. Ahead, she could spot the conveyor, the mass of belts and scaffolds meters thick. Something pricked at her, that sixth sense, and she slowed her pace, scanning the area.

Sure enough, there was Ivan. Not a trap, then. Don’t worry about it, Nadia. But still, something ticked at her, and her better-than-human senses scanned the wrecks. In the crashing rain and thunder, there was nothing to pick out. She approached Ivan, the big man was leaning against a matted wall, crumbling brick. “I’m here, Vanya.” Her quiet voice cut the air concisely.

Ivan jumped, “Nadia, so good to see you.” His eyes flicked back and forth, like a child in a dark unknown.

“Cut it, Vanya. Why the emergency signal? What’s going on?” Her black eyes were moving now, too, scanning at his edgy behavior.

He sucked in a breath, his eyes watering, “Nadia… I’m sorry… I’m sorry-”

“Sorry for wh-”

Ivan’s head erupted into a jet of blood and brains, hurling him back into the brick and mortar, flipping into the empty smelter beyond. The meaty smack of metal on meat smashed into Nadia’s ears as a blast of air struck her face… only then did the shot ring out, a clanging-snap of an unknown rifle. The detonation resounded like just another thunder clap echoing in the ruins.

Nadia whirled, tracking the shot. Her superhuman hearing picked out the first point of origin, and she tracked the vector of Ivan’s fall, clawing for her Jericho pistol. Another flash of light illuminated the Zobidov complex, and Nadia felt ice hit her stomach. Around the complex, in the towers and gangways, tens of people waited, pointing weapons down at her. On her chest, the flickering blue dots of exotic laser sights danced about her organs.

At this sight, most humans would have broken down, collapsing into a heap, surrendering to the vastly superior force. But Nadia was not human, not a mere homo sapiens. She was a predator by nature, and she would not go down meekly. She bolted, the Jericho flashing into her hand.

A sharp pain tore through her, a wracking crunch that she had not felt in a very long time. The resounding crack of that infernal rifle rung out again, and she was thrown down, her chest imploded, her limbs twitching, the pistol spinning off into the darkness. But Nadia did not stop. Even though her internal organs were now decorating the wall behind her, her lungs and heart liquefied by the impact, she still rose, wobbly, and began to run, leaving very little blood.

There was another pain, and her left arm vanished into a puff of bone and muscle, and she crashed through the door, falling into the factory. She scrabbled backwards, trying to get into some sort of cover. I am not prey! I am the predator! This was all wrong to Nadia. She was not the one to be hunted. Who dares? Yet, she was, for the first time, frightened. They set that ambush. They captured and turned, at least temporarily, Ivan. But their weapons were wrong.

Already, her arm was reforming, her chest filling back out. The organs were not rebuilt, but they were hardly necessary. She only breathed from habit, and her heart was long dead. Only the muscle mattered, and that was coming back already. I will win.

She began to run again, climbing up the gangway inside of the building. Below, she could hear the running and yelling of her pursuers. By their voices, and their coarse words, she could tell they were mercenaries. Very good mercenaries, perhaps, but they were still merely soldiers of fortune. She rounded the last bend, entering the old office complex.

-and stared right into the barrel of a gun. The flash was blinding, and the impact sent her staggering backwards into the door. She tried to get up, but she was pinned, her muscles locked. Her eyes were blinded, and her skin was burning. The pain wracked every nerve in her body, as though she had been staked into the open sunlight for hours on end. She screamed, an animal howl that was absorbed by the night, as she contorted and shook, jerking helplessly against the wall of the office.

In the room, three men stood, holding a paddle-headed carbine of sorts, which hummed with some inner power. From the barrels, a thick laser emerged, pulsing in the dust in the air. Where the beams struck Nadia, her skin blackened and burned, peeling back to reveal scorched innards. Pale lines covered her body, and her cries grew shallow and further between.

Emerging from the darkness behind the three suited men, another emerged, his black hair contrasted to the silver sunglasses he wore on this blackest of nights. His mouth tugged into a smile, and he raised a sleek pistol. When he spoke, his voice was measured and calm, deadly professional and courteous, “I think she’s had enough.” The beams halted, and Nadia sagged to the floor. The man’s pistol coughed, and a single neurodart stuck into her neck. She became limp and lifeless instantly.

The man walked to the fallen woman, kneeling with a scanning device hooked into a black PDA. “Hmm… necrosis in the cells, regenerative genetics, anaerobic body functions, specialized digestive system… we’ve got ourselves a prime sample. Bind her up, stow her, and fall out.”

One of the men turned to him, “Sir, the mercenaries?”

“They played their role. Pay them, and let them revel in town. We’ve got the last of this Xenos.”

“Time to move to the next sample species?”

“Precisely. Clean up, and prepare the next operation.”

And the facility fell silent once more.

Name: Travis
Alias: "The Waterboy", "The Avenger"
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Abilities/powers: water manipulation, water mutations
Weapons: Two Desert Eagles, military issue (stolen of course :P ), combat knife, M24 sniper rifle(also stolen)... anything else he can find.
Background:

A lone character, Travis comes from a dark life. At the age of ten, he witnessed his parents and sister murdered in cold blood by a gang of Mafia members. At first, he fled for his life but was captured by the Mafia. They tortured and beat him to near death, in a way that only a full grown human would be able to endure. Yet, he survived, barely breathing, barely alive. Eventually, he returned to his home, and back to the room his family had been murdered in. Blood stains still covered the carpet, never to be cleaned. From that day forth, he swore to avenge his family's wrongful death. Despite his age, he proved to be a capable hunter of the murderers, and one by one over the next eight years, he killed each member with precision, and deadly effect. Fifteen men's blood were spilled in his rage. At the first one's death, he left a note, "Justice comes five times as much as the crime. (signed) The Avenger"

This character has an ability to manipulate water as he sees fit. He can also "become one" with the water, in the sense that his physical form will take on the appearance of water.

Now, he roams the world, with no place to call home. He is cold to the world, having forgotten what warmth came with love. To him, humanity had become a source of evil, of hatred. It spawned evil beings, whom committed deeds of dark nature. And it was Travis who enacted justice against them...

****************

How's this for a mercenary character? I'd like to join this thread. Also, if he's approved, I'd like him to survive the thread. Thanks.

This all sounds really interesting - I want in! Just so you know, this is the first time I've ever done something like this, so bear with me.

Name: Ferevarco Rostaijn
Alias: None
Age: 37
Sex: Male
Abilities/Powers: Stealth
Weapons: Proficient with anything, but trademark weapon is katana blade.

Background
A former bounty hunter who saw the light on the legendary road to Damascus. From then on he saw his mission in life as one of salvation - to undo wrong for the preservation of good. When he heard of the wrong-doings down in Adamaria, who became obsessed with bringing Riven to justice, at whatever cost...A figure bathed in mystery, nobody knows where he comes from, who he is or even if he is of this world. Deep and reflective when it comes to psychological thought, Rostaijn is never easy to talk to. However, there is one moment from his past that will never leave him, and a dark secret that will haunt him for the rest of his days. Will it be brought out here? Only time will tell.

I think that Rostaijn could prove to be a very influential character here, and that he should not be killed until the very end. However, he should only die as a result of saving somebody else, and he should be killed by something a bit more classy than a bullet - perhaps crushed by a falling boulder. Who knows, he might even live to fight another day...

My Character (some of you will have encountered him before):

Name: Liquidus Snake
Alias: 'The Serpent God'
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Powers: Regeneration, Lightning, Life-Drain, Rage, Sword Empathy, Charm (brainwashing essentially, but this comes useful with the ladies...)
Hair: Long, Blond
Eyes: Blue
Height: 6' 3"

Known Data (when the RP starts, Liquidus' intro will be a er...'crash' on the moon): The subject appears to be human by most comparisons, but he has an unhealthy amount of radiation eminating from him. Some of his gene coding is unknown, but analysis of his servants shows the same results, indicating this isn't just inherent in the subject.

It is possible, by all intents and purposes, that the subject is not of this galaxy, let alone world. When the subject was discovered, it was in some type of huge mechanical bird, which the subject calls his 'flagship'. Further analysis of the ship is inconclusive, due to the fact that everything on the ship is in every way, is not related to anything on Earth. At one point, one of our researchers was sucked into a watery like 'portal' when he scanned some type of 'engine'. We never found out what happened to him.

The subject is apparently (from the information we've 'extracted' from him), a ruler of a vast Empire spanning galaxies in size. His people are loyal to him, and even fear him, and many refuse to talk at all, some even died to protect the subject. The subject claims he has lived for hundreds of years, and that he is a 'god'. All his people have said the same. Whether he is or not will be determined when we begin testing him. Also worthy of note, the subject is super-humanly strong. We have only kept him detained by paralyising him, and keeping him under close watch.

The subject, while is unarmed, is to be considered dangerous on a 'Weapon of Mass Destrouction' scale. If he escapes, there is a chance he could cause massive damage to Adamaria. Also worthy of note, he was exiled off Earth hundreds of years ago (probably another Earth), and has a deep hatred of Earth.

Sadly, there is nothing more on the subject at this time. We will update this file as we recieve more information.

Current Status: Imprisoned. Soon to be tested on.

OOC: Hope that's what you're looking for. Liquidus can construct weapons, and if a big fan of swords. Apart from that, I expect him to live.

Kaukolastan, I just finally had the time to read your long example post above, and I have to admit, I am very impressed by your writing. Based off that alone, I would like to invite you to join my region, 'Fatal Terrain'. It is a region that is specifically for character RPers, and currently has 22 nations. Please TG me with your acceptance or rejection of this invitation.

I'm going to launch it within a week, but my RL commitments are high around the (USA) election time. When I launch it, I'll post a link here, and this will become an OOC companion thread, to keep the other thread pure IC.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, but a few requests:

Outer Heaven II: I'd like you in the thread, but your character is a little too large for this setting. I want this to happen entirely in the nation of Adamaria, except for some character background posts in home nations. Also, I think that snatching and expirimenting on an intergalactic ruler would be a little too FUBAR for this RP.

Maserrat: Good work, but you won't know Riven is even involved until the VERY end of the RP. There are at least three levels of seperation.

(AKA: Riven -> Agents -> Novagen Corporation <-> Adamarian Gov't -> Basilisk Mercs -> Normal Mercs -> Gangs)

Tarlachia: Very nice character, but if he demonstrates "special" abilities, he goes from hunter to hunted, as the ISA is after various "special" types of people/nonhumans.

Everyone: Expect a consolidated post really soon, with a layout of my plans, characters, and some Q&A so we all go into this RP with our heads on straight. Let's make a great story!
Tarlachia
31-10-2004, 15:24
well, for a while, you could have the gov't thinking that he's a hunter, and just hire him for some random reason. He can just go about his paid duties as any mercenary would, and at an appropriate time, he'll use his powers, and thus the gov't finds out that they've hired a mutant mercenary and basically begin to hunt HIM.

Just a thought...

Hmm...

I could add an actual non-human to your little story.

Perhaps even a Flaming Skull Member if you want him to be mighty and driven into the story.

I'd quite like to join in with this RP, if ye don't mind.
I'd be willing to go as either a Mercenary, or as a Spy sent in to figure out why some of our own Meta-Human citizens have been going missing.

Name: Jant D'Arvus
Age: 27
Occupation: Rinceweedian SBS Operative/Rinceweedian OMA Operative

Backstory: Jant is a member of the government run SBS (Special Bodyguard Servic) and the privately owned OMA (One Man Army) forces, and a veteran in both.

The Special Bodyguard Service is used for the purpose of training elite bodyguards to protect VIPs, Important Document Carriers, and anything else that's of too much importance to leave it's safe keeping to lesser men.

The One Man Army is a force in fact founded by Jant. It trains it's operatives to the highest degree, and after the 5 years of Field Exercises and Apprenticeship with an existing operative, almost anyone who graduates from the orginisation is capable of turning an average special forces team to a nothing more than a bloody smear.

Jant originally grew up in the Rinceweedian Surface Colony in Antartica, being one of the 1.5 million civilians who lived at the colony, which in reality was more like a Medieval Town, with a massive defensive Fortress at the middle, and the civilians living in the colony around it.

For most of his life until the age of 15, Jant lived in constant awe of the half million man Armed forces that literally lived within the Massive defensive fortress, keeping them safe from all threat, wether from under the snow, on the snow, or even so far above the snow as to be...well....not in snow anymore, no matter how high the clouds went.

It was at the age of 15 that Jant finally managed to join the ranks of said armed forces, and thus lived his childhood dream, if not for a slight hitch. He found the Armed forces.....lacking. No matter what, he always seemed to be better than ANY of them, even the Special Forces instructors who trained the new recruits. It was this talent that ended up getting him introduced to the SBS by the Second-in-Command of the Colony's defence.

After graduating from the SBS course at the age of 17, Jant was assigned to protect the Commander of the Colony, and at the age of 20, Jant finally created the OMA in order to satisfy his love for conflict.

The OMA was eventually contracted by the government to churn out Operatives for the SBS, and for Rinceweedian Special Forces, resulting in massive profits for the OMA. It was due to this influx that the OMA became a mostly Mercenary force, allowing it to reach new heights of Power, eventually totalling a massive Four THOUSAND members, which in total could easily level an entire country.

Now, Jant still works for the SBS, but most of his efforts go towards the running of the most cutting-edge, well trained, and overall best, Mercenary force in the world.

-------------------------------

On another note, he will be bringing 2 sidekicks from the OMA with him. Although incredibly well-trained, they can still be Cannon Fodder for ya.

Character:Nexlon
Age:30
Race:Human?
Apperance:Unknown. Nexlon wears a Performance Enhancing suit.
Pictures: http://tornpaper.kpanime.com/Images/mecha2(image).jpg
http://tornpaper.kpanime.com/Images/sketches/pencil/treemecha(smile).jpg

Bio: Known only as Nexlon, this silent and efficeint assassian and mercanary has never let a kill escape him, save for one. The Katana-wielding killer is sealed inside a special suit that enhances all of his abilites, from speed to jumping capabilities to anything in between. Bullets will ward him off, but can't pierce his armor; only medium or heavy weaponry can truly injure him. Nelxon works as both an assassian and Mercanary and always goes for the highest price. However, even he has a heart, and will never go so far as to kill an innocent.

I dont really want Nexlon to die, exept mabey at the end.

EDIT:I think Nexlon contrasts well with Maserrat's character; Both wield Katanas, one is an almost merciless killing machine and fights usally for money and personal gain, the other a person who fights for the light and to undo wrongdoing. It should be interesting to see how they interact.

01-11-2004, 16:56
Ah, I should probably mention, although my OMA sidekicks will be just there as cannon fodder really, I would ask that, if possible, Jant stays alive for as long as possible. If it's necessary to the plot for him to die, then fine, but otherwise i'd not mind him being anything but crippled, killed, etc., only injured.

Okay, got back. I'm going to launch the thread today (with luck). On killing characters, there shouldn't be any need to off anyone until you fight the Basilisk mercs or an ISA operative, unless the normal people get lucky.

On tech level, keep it close to modern tech. I'm going to push it at the end, but the vectoring VTOL that pops up should be the "Oh-my-God, what is that?" craft, not "Oh, just another jet."

On Killing NPCs: Go ahead as needed, but no massacres, or the gov't will get involved.

I'm still waiting for a reply from Outer Heaven, but Tarlachia and Maserrat, your edits work great.

Ravea, it's okay, as long as you keep that suit close to modern-tech.

High-Orcs, of course you're welcome to join, just fill me in inside the OOC thread before you join the main thread.

Rinceweed, welcome, but please be investigators. We have enough mercs as is.

Dimmsville, bring him on in, it'll be interesting to have a yokel in this.

The thread should launch today.

There will be link in this thread to the RP, so don't worry about tracking it down.

Magic is allowed, but only in reasonably doses. No Power Word Kill type spells, please, but the use of combat magic is allowed, as long as you're prepared to deal with the sudden amount of "interest" the bad guys will take. [OOC: I'd be interested in having a Nenyan RISE agent involved in this somehow. The agent (probably the one desginated in my Big ICEL Notepad Document of Random Information[tm] as S-7, more often known whilst active in the field as 'Charlie' - he's not made any on-camera appearances yet, though he was mentioned once before, I think) would be investigating rumours amongst the international intelligence community that 'something dark' was going on in <insert nation name here as I haven't read the entirety of this thread beyond the first post yet>. He would carry the usual battery of RISE toys*, but would come in on civilian transport. Unfortunately, he wouldn't find any kind of conventional aircraft all that spectacular (as ICEL is a bit beyond jet aircraft), but I'm sure he could be gosh-wow'd at the cleverness of the design at least.

*RISE toys include:

- A translation unit, surgically implanted and augmented with two directed-sound units (fancy speakers) sewn into clothing at the shoulders, with an ultra-sensitive microphone somewhere on their person.
- A multi-spectrum scanner/communication device (referred to as a C/S). This is essentially a Menelmacari comms unit with some hoo-hars added on; it contains, however, a miniaturized 'scanning suite' similar to those found on an ICEL warship - it has full-spectrum scanning capacity, including but not limited to visible light analysis to radio- wave-based scans. This probably won't be used at all in this kind of RP, though.
- A Mk6 Type 3 defence wand. This is a small ultrasonic/electron flux unit which can knock unconcsious/kill most organic Sentients at a range of about one hundred fifty meters, and can damage sentient electronic equipment at a range of about fifty meters. If you have electronically controlled locking mechanisms on doors, they might be easily compromised using this device, but I'm sure ways around that could be found without creating plot holes if you so desire.
- A 'hidden danger' collapsable flak jacket. Has about thirty pockets for various tools (including a nifty variable-head screwdriver), as well as a rope assembly unit (pretty much a box with a load of tangled thread in it which is weaved into a rope at need - just a strange way of carrying a rope in a small container, really), various bugging tools (what self-respecting black ops operative/spy would be without those!), and field rations. The jacket will stop most rounds fired from various automatic weapon, but the average sniper rifle or a high- velocity- round-firing assault rifle will render it useless.
- An electronic interception unit, which is slaved to the comms/scanner unit mentioned above. This is a simple unit which listens to commonly used (military) radio frequencies and attempts to decode low-level encrypted communications, relaying them to the master C/S unit.

Most of the technology behind all of the above equipment is already in existance today, or is in development, or fits into the slightly-in-the-future bracket. However, it is noteworthy that the EIU (electronic interception unit) and the C/S are (or should I say, can be) partly reliant on high-bandwidth links to the MISAT network in orbit. Not sure if that's okay or not, though.]

Name: Tristan Rinias

Gender: Male
Height: 6'1"

Genus: Homo
Species: Nosferatu (Thyrn Classification)
Known not to be Species: Sapien

Appearance: Tanned skin (believed to be artificially induced), pale hair, iris is white. "Normal" features. Appears late twenties/early thirties.
Distinctive features: Clan tattoo on left shoulderblade.
Notes on appearance: Pale hair and iris both common among the House of Thyrn, tattoo offers conclusion as to bloodline. Hard to remember, but no conclusive eidence as to reasons for this, hypotheses include both unmemorable features and some kind of sorcery.

Known affiliations: Member of the House of Thyrn, involved in many of their business dealings. Believed to be a middle-ranking member of the house often used to investigate things that cannot be entrusted to "thralls".

Known weapon preferences: Pistols and small arms, also known to favour knives and other bladed weapons. Believed to have been trained in martial arts but has expressed distaste for hand-to-hand combat.

Illegal activities: Possesses a "clean slate" in his home country, but has been linked to numerous events. No concrete evidence ever discovered.

Political links: Member of the House of Thyrn, who control the Athyrian parliament, also linked to the murders of Thyrian enemies in the political, religious and civil arenas.

Other Notes: Tends to be smartly dressed. Refuses to compromise his family in any way. Has access to Thyrian accounts across the globe. Rinias's birth details classified by Athyrian government.

Believed purpose in Adamaria: Searching for a missing Athyrian. No details on missing Athyrian are known, believed dead. Considered a distinct possibility that Rinias is present in order to oversee Thyrian business interests and that the missing Athyrian story is a cover to allow greater freedom of movement.

[Kill-position: Would prefer for him not to die (so that he can be used in future RPs), but really does not matter if he does. Will be accompanied by Athyrian retainers, who are basically fodder/food]

A quick note. The armor being used by my men looks like a slightly less bulky version of this (http://www.gungfu.com/pics_general/pics_sparring_gear/kwon_self_defense_armor.jpg).

(It's just thinned down enough to allow for easy movement, whilst still providing excellent protection from any attempts to injure or kill the wearer)

By the way Kauk (Hehe, 'Cock'), the two men (Jant and Samuel) who removed their weapons and armor will basically look like normal civilians. The fully armored and armed man (Jason) is currently skulking, near invisible, in the shadows, covering the other two men.

Oh, and they're actually inside the industrial complex, not in the woods outside it.

Yar, just an FYI since yer guy apparently sees the two apparently unarmed men as still fairly well armed and armoured, and the man hiding in the shadows is apparently standing out, clear as day.

....Oh, and the above isn't written in sarcasm or anger or anything, it really is just to let you know.

Not to seismic or sonic sensors, or to advanced optics. There's no "pure" stealth, so while the officers on foot (goddamnit, gotta change some typing) wouldn't see you, the scanner banks sure would. Remember, the entire area is a defensive gridwork.

Okay, post shooting up right after this. Bear has been mentioned before as the backup given. In the first post, he used the .50 and it's back right here, with the same digital scope.

Dual-purpose rounds are Depleted Uranium penetrators, with an explosive/incindiary follow on. Traditionally, they penetrate into vehicles and then leave a nasty fireball behind. This weapon is used because of the mutagenics around, and the Mercs need the firepower, but he's more that happy to fling off a few rounds into normal people, just to watch the "splat".

The M99 is a semi-auto, bullpupped rifle, with ten rounds. The digital scope is an unnamed design, but it would be a Leupold design, with combined thermal, NVG (lowlight), and advanced optics. .50 BMG is supersonic, as well.

FYI: Antonov is not a bad guy, just a local cop with a huge burden. Bear is a bad guy, but he's "way the fuck back there" and sniping. Everyone I'm using in this little situation is killable.

PS: I checked, and Jason, the man targetted, wasn't on the "do not kill" list, hence why I set him as the numero-uno shot. If that was a typo, please let me know before this gets outta hand.
Rinceweed
07-11-2004, 02:00
Don't worry, Jason was a Semi-Kill. If the story needs it, he dies. And considering his armor is only supposed to stop anti-infantry fire, I get the feeling it wont do much for an Anti-Material weapon.

Um, Ravea, how did you do that? A round like that has a muzzle velocity of 2800 feet per second; to strike it perpendicular, you would need a speed much greater, and force enough to cleanly slice Depleted Uranium (densest stable element used for war). The round would have delivered over 12,000 foot-pounds of torque (ie: it would have shoved a 12,000 lbs block one foot backwards).

I'm not trying to be a dick, but how would that work (cutting it in half/stopping it)?

BTW: I'm not trying to make sure dude dies, I'm simply asking how this would work. Perhaps you could see the flash magnified, and shove him down for a less drastic impact, or something like that, but I really can't see how someone could slice a bullet in half. (I'm not trying to dick!)

If you want to take him out, go ahead and do your best.

First of, I ain't dead. Second, please note my character lacks the ability to ask questions at the proper time.
Ravea
07-11-2004, 17:58

Well...Good point. I was tired last night. He IS a ninja after all; i suppose i could have him take the bullet instead of slicing it in half. I'll think of somthing later. I need to go now.
Kaukolastan
08-11-2004, 01:07
Well, I was tired, too, and reviewing at a less drastic hour, I can think of a couple of ways to "stop" the bullet with the sword, but almost every one ends in a broken sword, and a hail of shrapnel headed your way.

(ie: Interrupting the flight, diverting the round.)

If the sword is monomolecular, or high-frequency, please let me know, for gameplay purposes. (Either of these could slice a DU rod in half, albeit at the cost of a shattered blade.)

Either way, if you do bat the round down, you'll get Bear to stare blankly and demand a bigger gun (part of a running joke that's starting soon).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other notes:

In the interest of fair play, as I'm trying to act as Dungeon Master instead of opposition player, some hints on the nastiest of the possible opponents.

Benjamin "Bear" Harrison - Armed with a high powered rifle, expect him to blow through a wall and start blasting away with abandon.
NovaGen Elite - Equipped with high-tech goodies, which you can take for your own needs, they are in heavy combat armor (pseudo-powered HAZMAT armor of Doom), and are resistant to toxins, radiation. They are armed with flamethrowers, advanced sensors, various grenades, jammers, and tons of psychological warfare weapons. Scary, vicious, and deadly, they need to be hit with HIGHY penetrating weapons. (Some will be provided by myself a little after you first encounter these guys, as they go from mini-bosses to normal opponents.)
Gunship - Beware a giant picture window, because the gunship will strafe through it with a chaingun. Not really a fight, simply a warning that this will happen, and people really *should* die from that.
Aurelli's Guards - Whoop, whoop! Old-school powered-armor equipped, towering in the hallways, these metal behemoths will be virtually unstoppable without quick thinking and high explosives. They are virtually melee-proof under inches of carbosteel, carry high end electronics under EMP-shielded systems, and will be carrying heavy weapons ranging from chainguns to automatic grenade launchers to a primitive laser cannon. There may be cloaked variants, depending on how the RP goes. (Very few of these things, like two to three, total. I'd recommend shooting for the servometric joints, or, in case of the laser, the power pack; that is, once you figure things out after much carnage and chaos.)
Colonel Dex Gellar - OPTIONAL - He may be on your side, or not involved in the fight, but if he is, he'll be in one of those armored suits.
NovaGen Creatures - Various nasty mutated attack animals, ranging from lightning fast, naturally armored, poisonous, razor-clawed Ravagers to the really nasty stuff.
Kuzin's Elite - Four letters for this one: O-M-G-Z. Actually ISA agents, they're rarer than even the armored dudes, but they make up for it with the nastiest tricks. They'll be thermoptically shielded, equipped with Sag weapons, using monomolecular melee attacks, and linked into a real time BattleNet. Oh... and they may be defending a ticking self-destruct device of "mass" proportions... (hehe)

This is so you know I'm not pulling stuff from ass-space whence it comes, and so you have some idea what to expect. (I don't want to see brilliant "revelations" ICly, though. ;) ) I'll let you guys play with the flashy scifi toys, too, so you won't be that truly stuck on the elites.

I decided that Nexlon's blade is indeed monomolecular. That's his only weapon, by the way.

His armor is inch-thick titanium, equipped with Night and Thermal vision goggles, as well as shocks built into the heels. This allows his legs to remain intact after he jumps off a building or something. He has a bunch of other crap built in that i cant really list right now, mostly stuff that just helps him move faster or some equiptment(Such as the Lights i mentioned) to confuse his opponets. I dont think I even know everything that's inside there.

And he probably wont be taking his armor off anytime soon.

But, I'll be nice.

I conclude that the following song would fit best with Travis O'Neill:

(EDIT: changed the song in favor of an old master of the art...)

"Enter Sandman" by Metallica

For those that don't know the lyrics as to why I chose this...here ya go:

"Enter Sandman" --Metallica

Say your prayers little one
Don’t forget, my son
To include everyone

Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Something’s wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren’t of snow white

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon’s fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, don’t say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It’s just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We’re off to never never land

:D

Everyone, could you give me OOC details on your people's weapons/armor, so that I can have NovaGen techs explain for the mercs ICly?

Also, still collecting theme songs in TGs.

My guys each have the same equipment.

First, we have the armor.

It took me a while to decide, but in the end I went for this:
Interceptor Armor (http://globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/interceptor.htm).

Supposedly light AND extremely good at stopping bullets.

Basically, it's that all round, meaning that wearing the body armor is still tiring during combat, even to these trained professionals, but the protection more than pays off.

Weapons-wise, thees guys are packing pretty much everything you could think of that they could carry.

First off, the two weapons i've already said about in the RP.

MP7-PDW.

Extremely good weapon.

Linkage to an article about it (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_2_49/ai_95680072)

Everything you could want to know about it (http://www.hkpro.com/pdw)

Next, the concealable, one-shot pistol.

USP Compact (Yes, more HK.)

Article on it (http://remtek.com/arms/hk/civ/usp/comp/compact.htm)

My version is modded to be much smaller, at the sacrifice of ammo. Quite simply, it's single shot, and manually loaded, meaning it's only good for one surprise attack.

Oh, and I didn't get the really technical page for it since my version would most likely be slightly different from the statistics of the normal version.

The following stuff is only currently carried by Jason on the various holsters and slings on his armor, with Samuel and Jant's stuff currently in the tents.

The P90.

An excellent close-quarters SMG

Article on it (http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg13-e.htm)

The Technical Stuff (http://www.fnhusa.com/contents/tw_p90.htm)

S&W M39 9mm

An exceptional handgun.

A bit about it (http://www.modelguns.co.uk/s&w_m39.htm)

Last of all, the group has a single one of the most efficient machine guns there is.

Browning M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun

The gun is, quite obviously, completely disassembled, and it's parts are spread amongst the three tents. The gun would take roughly 10 minutes to assemble if all 3 men were working on it's assembly.

A bit about it (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m2-50cal.htm).

There, that's all of the ridiculous amount of firepower my men have at their disposal.

(They really do live up to the name 'One Man Army'.)

Oh, and if possible, i'd like to change my theme tune to this (http://www.playstationpro2.com/music/mgs2_theme.zip).

(Just can't get enough of the damn song.)

Don't worry Tarlachia...That Helicopter won't be there much longer anyway.

Hey...instead of a Metallica song, how about a good song?

"Dead Eyes See No Future" by Arch Enemy

Giving our blood
To the doomsday machine
Fighting for ravaged land
A worthless gain
Marching on a dead end road

A violent new disorder
Feeding off mistrust
Forgot what we were fighting for
A worthless aim
A victory stinking of despair

Dead eyes
See no future
Falling from grace
We are coming home
(Repeat Chorus)

Battalions of hate
Seeking shelter in hell
Bloodstained memories
Will we ever be forgiven
Our twisted fate
Time will tell

(Repeat Chorus x2)

Okay, another uber-post up. :)

Now, if anyone goes into Castle Kugel (bad place, that), you can expect much creepiness. Imagine a gothic old castle, with a history interweaving with a Nazi death camp. Yes, it's utterly terrifying.

If you work past the barricades, traps, and aberrations, you'll find that the Great Hall is actually cleaned out, as is the entire Keep. Only the outdoors is still wretched. However, there are fresher (six years old) blodstains inside, with bodies of Adamarian soldiers and mercenaries from six years ago, as well as evidence of a massive battle.

(IE: claw marks on walls, teeth marks in bodies, mangled bodies, broken tables, burnt rooms, and casings and bullet holes galore. There are also dead aberrations, though rare. There are no dead NovaGen people.)

Should you get deeper, you'll find a welded shut door in the lower chambers, much to thick to cut through.

Things you might (should) encounter:

-Old laser trips
-autoguns
-Ravagers (imagine a komodo dragon and wolf combined, with fatally poisonous teeth and claws, lightning fast, and work in packs, smart as hell)
-mines
-puddle of deadly goop that will dissolve you if it touches, does move, albeit very slowly

What Ceitha is doing:

Using a technique to teleport thrown objects to their target so it's almost impossible to to miss after throwing them.

He's aiming for the Pilot's skull, so the the knife appears infront of the windshield, and bypasses all the wind resistance that the propeller would normally give and make it near impossible to hit someone in a helicopter by throwing it.

Thus, at the full velocity of the throw, the dagger could shatter through the windshield and plug directly into the pilot's head. Ceitha is trying to animate the knife, and give it the power to fight for itself. As it will pretty much be a flying knife (Think "The Shadow"), it could mercilessly cut through the crew inside the hub pretty quickly in such a tight corridor. Ceitha would then recall the Knife back to him, which could be even more distasterous, as the knife can't go back out the way it came, it will go through whatever it needs to, to bee line back into his hand.

This can get as graphic as you want it to be.

Just so ya know Kauklostan, the equipment yer people will find in the tents is as follows:

2 P90's.

2 MP7-PDW's

2 S&W M39 9mm's

1 Browning M2 .50 Caliber Automatic Machine Gun (Disassembled)

A LOT of ammo for each weapon. (Obviously)

1 (Very) Long Range Radio*

Large quantities of Adamarian currency (I'm not exactly sure what currency would be used there, since it's a middle-eastern country, similar to Russia)

Large quantities of Vacuum Sealed Foodstuffs

One small Gas Powered Stove with shield (A simple metal shield around the top of it to cover the flame from anyone on the same elevation as it.)

10 small gas canisters for powering stove.

3 changes of clothing (One spare set of clothing for each man)

2 Sets of 'Interceptor' armoured suits.

1 Set of 'Ironhide' armoured suits.**

*By Very Long Range, I mean....well....let's just say, it has a satellite dish, and move on.

** The Ironhide is a massive improvement over the standard Interceptor armoured suits (Jason is currently using an Interceptor Suit).
It consists of virtually the same materials as the Interceptor suit, but with a few additions.

First off, it adds a layer of Ceramic plating underneath the other layers, to help stop bullets.

Then, it adds a layer of depleted uranium (Yes, you read that right) to the outside of the armour, except at the joints (For obvious reasons (E.g. It would make it completely impossible to move)).

Even for our men, who basically have to take 2 years of training to use the armoured suits we use, it would still be basically impossible to move, and in fact only the fact that the suit supports itself would stop the user being crushed by it's immense weight. Thus, this is powered armour. (Admittedly the only type currently developed by Rinceweed. Hell, this stuff is only owned by the OMA since Jant managed to convince the government to repay him for the sheer amount of times he's helped them.)

The suit uses simple motors to enhance the movement of the user. Quite simply, if the user makes a movement, the motors get the suit to move in the same way as the user, except when the motors start working, the suit actually moves, whereas the users actions do jack shit.

It should, admittedly, be noted that to reduce weight as much as possible, the Ironhide lacks the HUD of the Interceptor, as well as the various vision modes, since to accomodate them would put even more weight upon the already nearly immobile user.

It should also be noted that despite the motors in the Ironhide, the suit is still barely movable. The average speed of a suit is less than one half that of an unsuited man. (But hey, the extra protection pays off)

Okay, on the helo... make sure he teleports it INSIDE of the window. Helicopter cockpits, like all gunship windows, are reinforced plastics, and almost impervious to even medium-arms fire. (That's RL, not my nation.) So, a dagger, unless it was some sort of special property to cut, would keep nicking off.

I'd either put it inside the cockpit, or shove it into the intake.

On the hub, let's say that the ECM and Magnetic Fields block the teleport, as they interfere with the boundaries. No teleporting inside the complex, if you go there.

Right, sorry about the delays (been busy...lots of school deadlines come together about now).

Notes on characters:
The House of Thyrn:
Expect anyone referred to as a "Thyrian" rather than "Athyrian" to be generally unpleasant and into the whole blood-sucking thing. These will most likely be vampires ranging anywhere from Thralls (better than humans but not all that great) to Tristan himself (exeedingly unpleasant, but doesn't like to get his hands dirty). Most of these are fodder of the harder variety (think Special Forces but a lot more expendable)

House of Thyrn servants/Athyrian regular army etc.
Mostly human/weak upgraded types. These are retainers, servants, sneaks et cetera used by the House of Thyrn to do the dull or simply dangerous work (i.e. "Just go check if that pool is filled with acid") and can generally be expected to have a very, very short lifespan. Might be one or two exceptions (e.g. a particularly favoured Thyrian retainer). Mostly, they're fodder (and one or two will be used literally as fodder by Tristan if he feels hungry).

Equipment:
House of Thyrn:
High quality body armour, in Tristan's case (as with any reasonably old Thyrians who might turn up) this will have been crafted into an antique design to fit in with their gothic upbringing.
Most likely with decent projectile weapons that they know how to use, along with reasonable close combat weapons (with the exception of Tristan - again, he doesn't like getting messy).

Athyrians:
Basic body armour if they're lucky, pretty old weapons.
Athyrn is a backward, pretty poor and unfortunate country with downtrodden peasants and an extremely rich and high-tech ruling elite (most notably the House of Thyrn), so an Athyrian can be expected to have poor gear, while a Thyrian Bloodliner can be expected to be very different.

House of Thyrn Bloodline powers:
Celerity (rapid movement)
Blood healing (increases Thirst, but enables much faster regeneration)
A few others that are less significant (Thyrians use Celerity much more than other skills)

He can't use the technique to teleport thrown weapons through solid objects. It's metaphysically impossible because you can't see through it. You can't gauge depth. The technique plain wouldn't work, and if tried, the object would either bounce off the barrier, or be lodged in it and unremovable (or it could be forever stuck in the pocket dimension).

Glass technically isn't a solid ('tis a high viscous liquid), so the knife can go 'around' that.

I was not aware I would have to write about the pilot's demise. If you wish me to, say it, and give me a gauge of how graphic you wish it to be.

(K-stan the Physics Man, Here Again: If you were inside a body when the explosive (esp incindiary, as mentioned above) went off, you would be aerosolized, and become lovely particles for the wallop of the coil. The only reason the soldiers aren't being struck is because of the homopolarity vests (that protects against all but a direct Mantis hit, too). I might actually recommend trying to get a vest as part of the deal, if you work it to the good side (ie: not the 'splosion option) of the debate.)

Inside info on the Asps. As part of Basilisk (ooh, snake names, they're all SNAKE NAMES!), they are hired by an unknown group. They really don't know who they're dealing with, except for a couple of members, and only Colonel Gellar has a real ID on President Aurelli of NovaGen. They know that they take orders from and give too Adamarian gov't, and that there's some sort of research being done, but not much more.

They also know that if they let you go, they'll be summarilly executed for Breach of Contract, and even if they ran, they'd never be hired again. That's why they can't just let you go.

I'll explain most of this, or hint to it, ICly in tomorrow's post.

Whew, that was longer than I expected. Night, all!

Okay, got everything up.

Buechoria, you said I got tag them, so I put them to sleep, nothing too hard, and they'll be back around in an hour if they have good health. If it's too much, I'll knock it back, but I was trying to get them away from the planning session.

(The "Hammer" mentioned in the last part of the post is going to be big, probably killing about a hundred hired mercenaries and bringing down a couple of warehouses. Arythn, if you want to have an army-sized force in the area, you can, but they'll be going foosh, too.

If the engagement is not large, the Hammer will not be used, as it's a special "anti-vamp" idea... or rather, a mis-used anti-missile weapon.)

Right, I'm ready to re-enter the story. The most obvious place to make a comeback is the tavern, so that's what'll happen.

I'm intrigued by Nexlon, especially since our characters have the same weapon. Perhaps they are destined to meet in battle...what do you say?

13-11-2004, 18:45
Okay, Rostaijn is back in the building. I've though of a sub-plot involving him and Larsson. If you've read the post, you'll have noticed that this vision is a re-run of earlier events in the tavern, but backwards. Of course, Larsson did not go to shoot Rostaijn in the reality, only in the vision. I was thinking that somehow there is a bond between Rostaijn and Larsson, and thus when Rostaijn had the vision, history was changed and Larsson now knows that he is in Adamaria, and is somebody that needs killing. I'll expand on the bond later. Tell me what you think.

Wow, those were some impressive postings. I love it!

(One small technical note for contextual equilibrium (aka, fact check). The "dart" that hit Willi and Alex, while still countered with the 'gil, was actually a frozen needle of toxin that melted in the body. Essentially, a nasty injection from range, with no physical delivery. Result is the same, but the delivery was a little different, so if you have the time to make things "match", that'd be great.)

This RP is going great, and I love the postage going on.

Signed,

Okay, now we're in motion for a showdown.

The Hammer is going to be big. I won't say more, for need of surprise, but any normal people in the path will be vapor. Any special charas, no matter how good or equipped, will be dead. Special characters on the fringes will be crippled. People nearby could up and die. It will be nasty, so make sure to be clear of the warehouse when the trigger is pulled. Arythn, if you want to off a horde of the security forces, that'd be cool. I'm going to waste a ton of mercs, including some named characters.

On the future: As evidence is gathered, the signs will begin to point to the Archive (more on that later), and that will be where everyone should meet up, and form a party, or opponents. Don't rush it, though, because you all have to get there at the same time, and something has to lead you there.

There are several threads to lead to the Archive:
1.)Castle Kugel and the old labs.
2.)What the Hammer was.
3.)What is the Adamarian Gov't doing here?
4.)Who is hiring the Mercs (if you don't know the gov't is behind it)?
5.)Any other info desired.

(For short, the Archives are huge, uber-library in the gothic sense. More to come later. For now, let there be battle!)

Okay, first off, forgive my "art". I'm a writer, not an artist.

This is the BASIC (because I suck at drawing) plan of attack, so that you get a picture of the strike. Remember, the sewers are plugged, too, and the multiple strikes are supposed to happen, but I can't draw that. Anywho, enjoy the suckitude, and please forgive.

The image is attatched to this post. Please let me know when you've seen it, so we all have some basic idea. Also, I'm going to wait for Arythn to post before I launch, as well as the others involved. Any questions or comments (or plans), please ask here before the "shooting" starts.

K-stan, took a look at the pic...here's a word of advice: Stick with the writing lol.

Seriously though, the pic is pretty much understandable...not bad.

As for the Travis angle, what's your plan of action with that? I'm now thinking we're going into 'uncharted territory' on our plans. Or...you could just leave me in the dark and force me to truly adapt to whatever you may throw at me lol.

14-11-2004, 12:14
He means he wants to use Instant Messages, using MSN, or AIM, or some less obvious equivalent.

Ah, haven't actually got either of them, or indeed anything like that.

Basically, Rostaijn has visions in three situations:

1) When he's in immediate danger, where he is warned of it (i.e. the Hammer)
2) When he enters a place where something important has happened (i.e the Tavern)
3) When God wants him to go somewhere on a mission (at the beginning), kind of like a briefing.

Except for the third case, there needs to be a stimulant in the area for the vision to start. In the bar there was the segmented jug and under the dumpster was the hammer.

I'm just going with the flow at the moment, although it seems I now have three sub-plots to consider:

1) Nexlon vs. Rostaijn - battle of the blades
2) Reunion with Samuel (eventually)
3) The relationship between Rostaijn and Larson (could you have Larson suddenly have a massive headache and then realise that Rostaijn - who he has no previous knowledge of - is here, and that he needs killing, kind of like mine in the tavern)

When I get some new vision material, I'll tell you first.
Rinceweed
14-11-2004, 13:32
By the way, trust me, Samuel isn't gonna be too happy if/when he sees Rostaijn. Hopefully no guns will get used (Or even fists or swords or whatever), but ya never know.

(Especially since Jason usually loves just shooting stuff for the hell of it)

Tristan straightened his suit after finishing the last connection. With two other Thyrians of his personal retinue they slipped out the back door, heading towards the left side of the building where Tristan's car was located. On his left was the sabre-wielding Danarin, and to his right, Jenus with his m16.

Meanwhile, inside the building various members of the Athyrian Army and House of Thyrn took up positions, ready to kill for their leader...all unaware of the remote control in Tristan's pocket, and all unaware that he had left them to their fate.

Similarly those Athyrians outside watching the building shivered in the cold night, praying that Lord Rinias knew what he was doing.

Okay, the combat post is up. I narratively "pushed" through the first waves to maximize the involvement. I think everyone has an opportunity to post here, and then the hammer happens.

If you post, remember that the building is encircled, and the SAM teams are waiting, as are the sewer units (who will collapse the sewers if an escape attempt is made). This is big 'n' bloody, the way I like it!

The battle is joined.

War and anger shall reign
The clash of iron can be heard
By blindness you're driven insane
I'm lost in anguish and grief
Sorrow won't wane 'til you die
A shattered body deeply hurt
And darkness will cover the light
It's gone forevermore

That's what the minstrel sing
Join in the horrible screams
Take part in murderous deeds
Renowned be the lion-hearted

Join in the minstrelsy
Wailing in endless grief
It eagerly longs for more
Broken bodies lay down on the ground

Blood sheds all over the place
The green will be stained forever
And hate reigns all over the field
They keep struggling on in anger

Fiercely intense outrageous, too blind to see
And in pain they keep on singing
We claim the land for the highlord
God bless the land and our highlord

Shoot, shoot, shoot! Am I too late? I meant to post here, but got caught up in other computer games (Namely, playing Neverwinter Nights on the internet). I'll post my character profile here anyway. I hope it's not too late...also, could someone post the thread here?

Name: Cren Seldax
Occupation: Former Spec Ops officer, kicked out for unnesesary killing.
Age: 32
Talents: Stealth; he can get almost anywhere undetected, provided there are shadows. He accomplishes this through simple training, and also a mutation which occured while he was in the Spec Ops group; He and the others were injected with a strain of mutated cells, causing their skin to blend into their surroundings at will, and also to become almost 'invisible' for short periods of time.
Favored Weapon: Silenced Chauvinist Pistol (made of an alloy undetectable through scanners); Combat Knife

Well, there he is. I hope it's not too late...sorry.

Okay, got that up. The Hammer has NOT YET hit, but it's about to. Everyone that wants to survive, it's time to get out of the line of fire from the Hammer to the warehouse. The wings are safe.

Athyrn, Tristan should be alive as long as he stays laying down on the outskirts. Not healthy, but alive... and shocked as hell.

Anyone in the line of fire from the Hammer to the Warehouse, and into the part Zobidov beyond, is going to be crispy critters at my next post. (But, if you're just off the line of fire, you'll get a cool view, and you'll glow for weeks!)

Ybronneb, sorry you missed the boat on this one, but I'll be launching a semi-related one right after this one ends. Kinda a sequel, more of a mother-thread to this.

Tarlachia: I owe you a post, don't I? Expect it tonight or tomorrow morning.

Maserrat: Nice stuff, just remember that Larson's a cog in this, a small pawn. (And I was just going to make him a guy in the wrong place!) I really didn't want to off him this early, but the RP went thataway, so he died. Sucks for him.

I'm going to leave time on the battle stuff, as I kinda wrapped up my side. This way, everyone else gets their chances to tell their sides, and give reactions and plans and what-not.

The "General" mentioned should be moderately familiar to you guys, ICly, as he was a figure in Soviet-era Adamaria, a folk hero and hardliner who was "killed" in the collapses when he tried to unify the nation. I'll give more detail in my next post at the Warzone.

Athyrn, I want to talk to you, so we can work some stuff out in rapid-fire time, and get our cards in the same deck.

Rinceweed, your guys should have some sunburn, maybe temporary deafness or whiteout from that Mother of All Flash-Bangs, but nothing nasty... unless you want to, that is.

I owe Tarlachia a post, plus some reactions from Captain Antonov, more on Bear, and Gellar's questioning of the General (which people are more than welcome to eyeball part of, as it's plot-centric).

High Orcs, you've been quiet for a while, are you in town yet, or are you waiting on me to move on you?

Well, you could head to the Archives, or you could see the uber-boom that I set off, and the Hammer-beam. (You know Bahamut's "Mega-Flare Overdrive" from FFX? Like that, but bigger, if I didn't give a good enough pic of it.) In the Archives, an ancient library in the gothic sense (no catalogue, and with Forbidden Sections, as well as attatched to the Capitol, but that's secured by soldiers) and it also serves as a Hall of Records. You could get any general information you sought, but you won't be able to get into the locked sections without registration.

(Oh, and it has catacombs. But you don't want to be there.)

Another place to check out, now that it's dawn (after the Hammer), would be the Castle out in the snow.
Maserrat

K-stan: I'm glad to hear that my storyline's going down so well. I do however need to be cleared up on a few things. When Larson eventually dies, he confesses a few things to Rostaijn about the situation in Adamaria. Unfortunately I'm going to need to know what the situation is before I can say it, so could you please fill me in. You could just TG me so that those that don't want to know don't have to. I won't tell all, just a few cryptic comments, but it would really enhance the scene if I knew.

Okay, this is K-stan, online and in-line. Man, that was a nuts couple of days. First, IE craps out on me; then, Firefox decides to piss on Service Pack 2, and things get nutty. After I started running a Firefox browser through a flash drive, I tracked the virii from a server-level virus scanner, and killed it.

However, at this point, Thanksgiving was at hand, and being a retail wage-slave, I was forced to perform ungodly hours at the store. Hell, my Thanksgiving Dinner was a turkey-brautwurst cookout at night, because my family went to a get-together without me.

And, OH MY GAWD, you should have seen the fricking store today. Because it's the Day After Thanksgiving, which ranks up there with pre-hurricane shopfests in America, if not with the End of Days itself, I, lowly peon and salesman, ended up going in at four in the morning. Four in the morning sucks... especially when you walk into the store, and probably four thousand people are waiting around to get their grubby hands on one skid of $18.00 DVD players that roll out at five.

Needless to say, there was a stampede. The DVD Players never made it to the front shelf, because the Horde descended upon the poor manager hauling the skid. The human wave nearly crushed a bunch of employees, and the people were about as courteous as wild animals in rutting season, clambering over shelves and each other to form a human pile about ten feet tall, yanking the skid apart and tearing free the DVD players. Once the customer had received their booty, he/she would then run the gauntlet of ravenous fellows, who intended to strip the successful shopper of their Player.

It looked like Starship Troopers... you know, the scene where the Bugs are crawling up the fortress wall on a ramp of bodies? Yeah, that scene, but with people and DVD Players.

I was hiding in the toys section at this point, trying to be invisible, because if they saw my nametag, I was sure to recieve the full Inquisition on, "Where is this DVD Player? You're hiding them, aren't you! GIVE ME MY PREY!"

Well, I think I've recovered from the insanity that was work these past days, and I should be up and running in this thread shortly. Sorry about these delays, people.

K-stan...I sincerely understand the uh..."agony"... that you felt over the last couple of days, excluding the computer crap. I've worked during the "Day of Absolute Frenzy" before myself, and was smart enough this year to ask for that time off at work...AND SLEEP IN!

Not to rub it in your face... lol

Anyways, just letting ya know I truly outdid myself in my last post on the IC thread.

Rar. Just so y'all know, I don't think I can actually post anything more in the IC thread at the moment, since two of my characters are asleep, and one is busy singing a lewd song about hedgehogs. >.>

"Wake up Neo"

Bah, don't worry, Jant isn't as drunk as he seems. I was hoping to save it for later, but he's basically totally sober. If ye want him up now, i'll do it, but Samuel will either have to stay in the bar, or, if I can give him the same pill that Jant has been using, I can get him to follow us. Same with Jason.

OKay, good to see people back up and around. Coming tomorrow from me will be an OOC summary of what to expect at the Castle (for all three parties involved thusfar), as well as some *hopefully* IC goodness.

Athyrn, might you let me know what kind of booby traps, so I can have them go off/be found/already gone off in the Hammer, or what have you?
Athyrn
30-11-2004, 09:00
They're fairly simple,
A set of high-explosive charges hidden in various places throughout the rooms of the warehouse (generally well-hidden, often under floorboards and the like. Each is self-contained but they can all be activated by a remote that Tristan has.

The Passage:

Will emerge inside the Guardhouse. It is undisturbed for nearly a decade, and there are two bodies still inside, dropped into a hole to the side. There are casings from an AK-47 laying about, but the bodies were killed with blunt force. At the other end of the passage, just before the exit, there will be a welded door that you’ll need to cut/blow through. The welding was done about six or seven years ago, and no one’s disturbed it since. The welding gear was dropped on the spot, and it looks like the welders fled as soon as the door was welded (note the scratches dug deep into the door).

The Guardhouse:

The guardhouse was once the main guard station for the inner wall of the Castle, but not connected to the keep. As such, there are medieval barracks with all of the prerequisites (kitchen, armory, firing ports, stables, the works). The place was obviously renovated by the Nazis back in the 1930s-40s, then looted by the Soviets in the later 40s. Scraps of evidence will remain, like updated “facilities” (working plumbing, primitive wiring), more modern designs stuck into the rooms. However, most of the place was worked over again sometime in the past several decades, as there are some computers and sensor gear dating from about twelve years back (about our tech level) and from after the Soviet collapse.

Whoever moved into the guardhouse was using it as a sort of security station. The entire place was equipped with modern conveniences, and a massive security suite was installed, capable of controlling a massive array of laser trips, seismic sensors, sonic sensors, cameras, IR cameras, remote guns, sentry stations, gates, and even claymore type devices. This field of control extended both inside and outside the Wall, as if the guardhouse was more worried about an escape than an assault. Only cameras remain active inside the guardhouse itself, though, and these are mostly broken, allowing slow and cautious explorers to get through.

The systems are powered and active throughout the exterior security grid, barring the “gaps” where systems have been mangled and destroyed. The power is derived from some sort of geothermal generator which is still functioning down below the old dungeon, but you’d need a HAZMAT suit to go down there because of the fumes spewing into the lower level (sulfuric, mostly).

This entire facility was evacuated about ten years ago, judging by the decay and lack of updating. Whoever evacuated it did it in a hurry, as there are bullets embedded in the walls, an eclectic mixture of AK-47, AK-74, RPK, and a few F2000 and P90 smattered about. There are broken tables and bloody smears, scorch marks from grenades, and shattered walls, most of which have been crudely barricaded. It appears that some unknown force stormed the building from the interior of the Castle, and old MG positions are still pointed to the inner courtyard, where century old bodies lay. This assault was brutal and animalistic, with horrendous gashes and breaks in the walls and barricades. However, it was not stupid, as various power lines appear to have been deliberately cut.

From the third story or the roof, you might spot the broken doors to the Keep, which have been welded shut as well.

Throughout the guardhouse, this desperate struggle shows all signs of being brutal, but no bodies remain, and the footage from the security system has been pulled from the machines. This rushed “clean-up” happened about seven years ago, about the same time as the doors to the Guardhouse, Passage, and Keep were welded shut. However, the cleanup was rushed, and the bullets, wreckage, and some weapons and memorabilia were left behind in the hurry to flee, as there are fresher attack marks.

Things to Find:

-Various articles from past eras, even including weapons, if you want.
-Geothermal Access, the sulfuric toxic fumes.
-(HIDDEN – Door blocked by rubble) HAZMAT preparation chamber with suits to get into the Geothermal generator (3 Suits Ready, Empty Slots for 9 More) and maintenance gear for turbine
-Security Station with control panels
-Battle evidence, old MG positions
-Track Fiber Optic network from Security Station to the Database to find the empty Database (physically yanked out)
-Welding Tools
-Personal memorabilia in the barracks detailing the day to day life in the guardhouse in the most recent times, mostly referring to the “monsters” and how they were afraid of them getting loose, as well as how the good pay didn’t make up for the high mortality rate, or the people vanishing. Also, there are plenty of complaints about not being able to move the old bodies from the Yard, in need of secrecy.
-(HIDDEN – Tucked inside of a copy of Stephen King’s “The Stand” in a drawer) A transfer notice to the guard Sergeant.
-Boxes on the walls with some sort of Atropine.

Special Area – Geothermal Chamber

To get here, you’ll have to find the obscured and blocked HAZMAT chamber, then get the suits, go through the dungeon and into the hatch on the floor (obscured by the fog). Down the ladder, you’ll be standing on a grated floor inside of a long vertical tube. In the center of the tube, there is some sort of turbine control, and a massive shaft drops away into the darkness, which you can see because of the grated floor. The entire chamber is swelteringly hot, and filled with toxic fumes. The suits will begin to melt in the heat, and if you get punctured, you’re going to boil and choke simultaneously.

Around the turbine control, there are two shrunken skeletons inside of melted HAZMAT suits, apparently caught down here when the place was evacuated. With them is the skeleton of some sort of vicious quadruped, with nasty powerful jaws and almost metal looking claws. It looks to have killed one of the men, but it too died in the heat. The generator is barely functional, and it can barely power the security systems anymore. However, it looks like these two men were sent to make sure that the generator stayed running during that battle, judging by the marks of frequent repairs.

In this chamber, there are two secret items:

-A Cutting Torch, Treated Against the Heat (easier to get through welded doors)
-An engineering override access card (tucked into the machine, and thereby safe from the heat).

Getting to the Keep:

The courtyard between the Guardhouse and the Keep is filled with both the never-disposed of bodies from so long ago and the still functional security grid. If you try to simply walk to the Keep, it will be nearly suicidal, thanks to the autoguns. You can deactivate the security grid from the console (by hacking or physical destruction) or by powering down the Geothermal Turbine.

OOCly, when you power down the Security Net, you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of some nasty surprises that were still being checked by that grid after all these years…

Enemies:

-Autoguns: Triggered by the Security Grid, these are miniguns with ammo to spare and lightning targeting. Armored and deadly, the best defense is to not trip them off.

-Unexploded Ordnance: Old grenades, landmines, and claymores are smattered about, particularly near the holes in the walls and the normal doors. These are horrific outside the Guardhouse and Wall, on either side.

-Ravagers: A genetically engineered better guard-“dog”, these are the failures of the old expirement, and they’ve gone feral. About the size of a Great Dane, they are much more massive, possessing extendable six-inch metal claws, a vice-like jaw capable of crushing a brick with ease, and scaled armor for skin. Their claws and teeth are poisonous, causing dementia and paralysis within minutes, followed by death within hours, unless treated. The Atropine found in the area should work, but you’ll have to figure that out first, and it has to be delivered directly into the wound, or, if more than a few seconds have passed, under the armpit into the heart. (They’re auto-injectors, not needles, though.) Ravagers are pack-animals, and are never found alone. (I would NOT recommend engaging more than four.) They can run at speeds nearing 55km/h, and sustain this for several minutes flat out. They can vault over five times their own height. They keep attacking, even wounded, until they are completely taken out of commission. However, they will break off an attack (unless a nest is threatened) at the sight of easier prey, such as another body or a slower runner. They will not eat each other. Their eyesight is pitiful, but their hearing and smell is insanely good. They are NOT domesticatable.

Golden Simatar, you’ll find information that agrees with what Gellar told you earlier, go ahead and fill in the blanks about everything before the Soviets kicked the Nazis out. However, a survey team was dispatched to check it out in about 1994, but all records were destroyed afterwards regarding who hired them. All the members are not talking, if you call them, you’ll get a quick hang-up.

All records between 1994-2006 are missing, and were apparently pulled (if you ask successfully) in 2008 sometime. After this big blank, the Castle is pronounced to be “unfit for habitation” and “contaminated by the reactor leak” and forbidden to access, with dire warnings about the radiation and how the military/mercenaries will fire on sight.

Those missing records are suspicious, and were done sloppily. However, there is not record on who did it, and the only concrete proof is the missing page in the Civil Records. You may track the company the surveyors were connected to back to a front company operated by Councilman Illianovich, of the Adamarian Gov’t. However, if you look further, the librarian will become nervous and ask the soldiers to check you out.

In that case, you might want to slip away…
