(back, ready to rock, gotta figure out what to do in 4A in a minute.. any suggestions?)
(Hmm..I think that, as an intemediate story introducing Jeff and his twin brother, it works quite well. I'd imagine you could move on to Part V, which I'm assuming is the next major RP in the plot, and consider us all filled in on the back story. That is, unless you have another twist to throw at us in 4A? ;))
Takeo led Johnson over to meet with Seph, "Sir, I"m Takeo Katana, and this is Ambassador Johnson from Iansisle, we would like to take the opportunity to ask you to join us for a morning drink," Takeo turned to Johnson, "is the office here acceptable?"
Johnson blinked once or twice at Seph, trying to put a name to the face. He hadn't been fully briefed on the Yarrum admission, and so the older man just smiled.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. I don't usually hold with drinking this early, but I think we can make an exception given today's excitment."
He turned to Takeo. "Wherever you'd like is perfectly fine with me, Mr. President. This time of the day, alcohol is alcohol to me," Johnson finished with a wink.

Takeo nodded and led the two men into the ANH building walking towards the Larkinian wing.
"I was afraid of this happening. I should have moved more security into the area. And stopped the car, damn the international outcry. Or had him arrested..." Takeo said as he held the door to the central office open for the men.
He walked over and picked up three glasses, a bucket of ice from the freezer and a bottle of well-aged scotch before meeting the men in the lounge.
"Now we have to stop any outcry before it happens."
(heh heh, yeah, that might be the plan. Although the meeting won't be all nice and cuddly ;) )

Johnson walked through the door with a "thank you." Though the New Highlands Alliance was mostly Laughlin's domain, the halls of the meeting room still held an air of familiarity.
"It's often hard to know what the best thing to do is, Mr. President. I think that you acted in the best interests of Larkinia and the Alliance at all times; no one could have known how far Donnaghue was willing to carry out this...idiotic feud of his."
He poured them all a scotch and settled into a seat in the lounge, glad to be off his feet. "Thank you, Mr. President," he said, sipping on the drink.
"There'll be some fall out for this incident, that's for certain. Hopefully, it won't be too bad on the Shield: IanCorp values the alliance with Larkinia, and they'll have to balance sensationalist against increased tensions within the New Highlands. This...incident will get reported, no doubt, but I wouldn't guess it would be page one news."
He shrugged. "Of course, I've always been horrid at guessing the media's intent. And, no offense meant, I think the real problem will probably be the Larkinian reaction, not the Iansislean."
(Oh, dear ;)...I hope Jeff's in one piece for the wedding! Or at least a maximum of two pieces :P)

(I'm thinking... six pieces... seven tops. however the problem's gonna be what he does to Kate and the kids...I've got the basics sketched out through part 7, let me know if it gets too boring.)
Takeo sighed, "I hope they do. I know the... national fervor that they publish with."
He took a long drink of the scotch, "The press here will be the wild card. I would guess they would try to make a ... hero" Katana said with some distaste, "out of Javin, playing down his role in all of this."
He handed the morning paper to Johnson, "Already the tabloids have taken things out of context."

(Boring? Never! So far it's been one of the most exciting NationStates stories I've read! The Jeff-Grant thing really threw me for a loop...considering Dr. Niven's house

Johnson accepted the newspaper. "Fast copy," he muttered while scanning over the headlines.
He put down the paper. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is more than willing to sacrafice Donnaghue to keep the alliance intact and healthy. I know that sounds cold-hearted, but we can't let any assume he speaks for His Majesty's government with..." Johnson slapped the paper with the back of his hand. "...this rubbish."

(Thanks man! The Niven house? Oh yeah, the whole patricide, Greek Tragedy deal. ;) I'm waiting for Cele to get back on so I can get an Authentic Niven reaction to finding out)

"Well, they've never been a reputable news source," Takeo said offering Johnson a cigar. "I've got some friends in the more.. legit news organizations here. I can get them to kill the story, for a price. I can offer a couple of exclusives in the last year of my presidency. Would King James be willing to sit down with an LNN reporter for an interview of his own?"

Johnson frowned and his mind clicked as he accepted the cigar. "I...I suppose that he could be persuaded. For the good of the Commonwealth and the Alliance, naturally.
"James has never been a big fan of the press, despite the fact that IanCorp has found him extremely marketable. I know he'd want to do what is best for all concerned, but.. I worry about what he would say should this be a hostile interview."

Takeo grinned and shook his head, "I can make sure the interview is.. favorable. I have enough pull for that. I know James doesn't like the press, and I can understand why certainly. They can be a damn pain at times. But I guess he will have to get used to it, being a leader for life."
(I'm thinking this is kinda flaming out until Yarrum gets back on... but now would be a good time for Jeff to find out about Antony... ;)... God I'm so evil to him... )

(You ought to have a meteor fall on his dog or something...now, that would be mean! ;)
Ok, we're holding until Yarrum gets a chance to reply? That's fine with me.)
"Quite agreed." Johnson sat back in the chair. "Oi. This is all a little too much for me. I'm not sure how much more excitment these old bones can handle."

(No... but I'm hoping James isn't too attached to that manor house. ;) there's a chance if I do what I'm thinking about, that Jeff's gonna... turn into not such a nice guy as a result for a while. What was it Frederich N. said about facing monsters, to be careful not to turn into one yourself...)

( :P no, Antony is going to ;) and he's supposed to make Grant look like a saint.)

OOC: Oh? I already had a hunch since same thread... Though I had expected something more along the lines of a rape than making her drunk...

(Dang, and I thought I was coming up with at least a little wrinkle. ;) I'll have to go through my notes and tweak them a bit. And I had considered a rape, but since Grant is supposed to do that to her later in the storyline I didn't want to get repetetive with it, cause Grant was actully a semi-decent guy one... in a galaxy far, far away.)

Seph stood up and dropped his book.
"It's an honor, Mr. President."
Johnson blinked once or twice at Seph, trying to put a name to the face. He hadn't been fully briefed on the Yarrum admission, and so the older man just smiled.

"The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Johnson. I don't drink before noon myself, but it still sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for Javin and Donahuge. I was supposed to meet them here at sunrise... could they not make it?"
(later on)
"A... a duel? My god, what did I miss at the ceremony? I... I had no idea... Javin said something about 'fireworks' at the meeting (I took him literally), and then he said that he and Donahuge were going to do something, but I had no idea..."
(Sorry about the whole time zone thing!)

(no worries about the timezones dude!)
"You missed, well you missed a disaster to say the least," Takeo said. "It seems like Javin's and Donnaghue's egos got in the way and they decided to duel it out.
"But I suppose there were more than enough fireworks before the sun rose today," he mused, thinking about the car chase.

Johnson glanced over at Takeo. "Um, well..." He faltered. "You want to start, or shall I?" he asked at last while running a hand over his mouth.
"A... a duel? My god, what did I miss at the ceremony? I... I had no idea... Javin said something about 'fireworks' at the meeting (I took him literally), and then he said that he and Donahuge were going to do something, but I had no idea..."

"I shouldn't worry," sighed Johnson as he swirled his scotch. "When they woke me up back in Iansisle, I had no idea what would have caused this anyway. I think the Foreign Affairs office may have to undertake some sort of psychological screening."
Johnson's lip deformed slightly at the thought. It was clear he didn't approve of such measures, and it was wormwood to suggest them.
(Don't worry about it at all...Lark and I are just nightowls. We're both on Mountain U.S. (GMT -6, I think); yourself?)
"Well, I'm glad to hear that... no one's getting killed today. Or murdered, at least."
Seph thought for a moment.
"Hey! There was going to be this big party at the GSY to celebrate our acceptance in the ANH, and... well, I don't think my guests can attend now. I'm sure you're quite busy, Mr. President, but if you'd like to come, Mr. Johnson, and maybe bring a friend, it would make a very good first impression for the rest of the GSY."
Haven't thought of a clever nickname for Yarrum yet

(Yar it is!)
Johnson nodded. "I think what's gotten lost in all this ... excitment is that today is really for Yarrum. Sir, I'd like to issue an apology on behalf of my government for the actions of our other delegates on what should have been a day for your country. And I would be most honored to attend your party."
He thought...where could he find a friend in Golden Agate? Except maybe...Jason Whittimere?
Seph tried to think of something to say. No apology necessary? Such things happen? Yarrum doesn't need its own day?
"Consider yourselves forgiven."
