Please tell me how to play the World Cup.

The People's Republic of Candombe want to play the next edition.Read the first post of this thread. Then if you have questions, post them and someone will answer.

We believe that Snub Nose's question is a good one. We have been told that your rating goes up when One writes up their match reports. However it has never been explain how that is accomplished. When does One find the results of the encounter? Do details of each encounter differ so One can “flesh out” each result? Do the two sides talk to each other so the results do not contradict each other? Or are We taking this to seriously?

The results are found in a thread here in the forums (not the RP thread).
Normally, you write the RP without contacting the other player (unless you are planning something... well, strange). It isn't always possible to contact him/her since they can be at the other side of the world in different timezones. Check the RP thread if your opponent has written a match report already. If not, you can go ahead. If he has written a report, you can write about another aspect of the match (an interview with a player or the coach for example) or write your match report. If you choose the latter keep it consistent with your opponents RP.

As far as ratings (rank)...that's always under discussion. There is a thread in this forum dedicated to it.

The basic idea is - more points, higher rank. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, no points for a loss. Rank is "calculated" generally at the end of each World Cup, and that rank is where you start the next WC. There are a variety of "unofficial" rankings posted (TBF, KG) from time to time.

There is also a general consensus that a side that RPs should receive some bonus for it over sides that do not RP.

Check out the discussion thread on ranking.

Any WC12 matches held in Lemmitania will be played at the 3rd floor gymnasium of the Middle School for Applied Technical Learning. The gymansium's bleachers seat 350 12-year-olds, or about 250 adults, in reasonable comfort. Games will be scheduled consecutively beginning at 3 am on the first match day and running continuously until all matches have been played.

A few of the alternate venues in case the MSATL LemJuniors should happen to have a volleyball game scheduled against arch-rivals Gil Lemson Memorial Middle School:

Lemmitania National Stadium, Lemmington

Brand-spanking new for World Cup 7, the National Stadium is now venerable but still a comfortable fit for 70,000-odd fans. The big LCD scorboard, once state-of-the-art, now looks a bit dated, though it still gets the job done. Home to the Lemmington Vipers of the A-football league. Natural turf.

Canned Lemming Amalgamated Stadium, Lemvoola

There are no stadia in Lemmitania named after corporate sponsors. The Can, as it's lovingly known (both for its lovely, ugly tin shell and for the resemblance it holds to a gigantic toilet), is named for its corporate donor. That's the ticket. It's no Treefront Stadium, in that it's not built along the treefront, has a noisy tin dome, and isn't home to the Lemvoola Leemcats of the LRU. It is, however, the favorted stomping-ground of the Leemrats, Lemvoola's mediocre football side. Capacity: 40,000. "Amalgaturf."

Lemco City Municipal Stadium, Lemco City

The oldest stadium still in active use in Lemmtania, Municipal Stadium would become the only venue to have hosted matches in three World Cups. Considered the Lemmings' "lucky home," this is where the national side will play in World Cup 12. It's loud (in part because it's right across the river from Audioslavia), and it gets unnervingly cold. And the fans are rabidly insane. Capacity: 88,000. Natural Turf.

*the deputy minister of athletics, olympics, and alcoholic beverages, "sitting in" for the absent minister, is reviewing the documents left behind in the minister's inbox during the recent mass exodus from the ministry. suddenly, he sits bolt upright (if he had a beer, he would be spilling it), an expression of shock contorting his face. beverley, dusting the various doodads, thing-a-ma-jigs, and the odd odd-and-end over by the mantlepiece, turns as the deputy minister says*

- Augh!! What an idiot! "Might put in a bid for WC13" indeed!
- What?
- That twit is working on getting us into the bidding for WC13.
- Well...that might not be such a bad idea.
- Bev...how many football stadiums have you seen in this country?
- ...um...personally?...One.
- Then, you've seen 'em all.
- But...
- But nothin'. We have one stadium, 38 Special, our national stadium.
- I know we have a football league. Where do they play?
- They carry around huge cases of chalk dust, and just kind of mark off a pitch where ever.
- They don't!?
- They do.
- But, if we get the bid for WC13...
- We’re gonna need tons of Vodka Gimlets, so we can build some decent venues.
- I still can't get my mind wrapped around this. The Snub Nose 38 Premier League has no stadiums? What about spectators?
- Yeah, they have a couple. Five, maybe ten, for a match.
- Five...but...five tickets certainly can't raise much capital. How do they stay in business?
- Endorsements cheques. They picked it up from some Lemmitanian Sportscaster - Phil, or Lil...maybe Bill.
- Gil?
- That's it!

*we find ourselves once again in the offices of the deputy minister of athletics, olympics, and alcoholic beverages. the deputy, because of his position, is in the process of having an alcoholic beverage. it looks rather like a rum and coke - but we certainly wouldn't know what one of those looks like. beverly enters, feather duster in hand (these sn38 women seem to have a "thing" with feathers), and begins dusting the piano and it's surrounding what-nots. and the butler enters, notices evening is coming on, and flips the light switch. a light bulb goes on above beverly's head*

- Of course we can!

*the deputy minister spills his rum and coke. the butler glares, and commences the clean up*

- What Corsican?
- What?
- You said, "A Corsican". What Corsican?
- No, I said, "Of course we can."
- What?
- What?
- "Of course we can" what?
- Oh. Of course we can bid on WC13.
- We went over that. We have no venues. It's cost prohibitive.
- Yes, that's true, but we have another option.
- Which is?
- Our neighbor here in the Asteroid B 612 region.
- Which one?
- Wake up. Only one of them has an national football side. Runaway Moose.
- So...?
- So, perhaps we can convince Runaway Moose to co-host. They have stadiums - really nice ones - and that would cut the cost of the thing in half. And, we could...um..."borrow" funds from RM to "help" us get our venues in order.
- Brilliant!
- Well, that remains to be seen. But, it is an idea.

LMAO Lemmy :D I'll get the 'real' stadia designed for you later, and propose designs for a few more (seeing as I have ten and realistically you'd have at least five or six ready). They'll include a 130,000-seater monster fit for the final, but you can have the Progressair (capacity 116,792) host the final instead if so desired.

ASNN - The Belmore Family and Allied States release Bid Details
Kevin Mckeehan

GRAHAM CITY - Today, the foreign ministers and minister of cultures of The Belmore Family and the Allied States of the Lowland Clans released the locations and schedule for their World Cup bid. Coined 'The Inbreds' or 'The Bid' by the international community, it is rumored to be one of the heavy favorites, but is hounded by 'undeserved stereotypes' and 'blatant attempts to sabotage the image' of the two nations, declared TBF minister of culture and sporting events, Alan Belmore. "We hope to break through the harmful stereotyping produced by previous cups, and show that Scots really are cool and hip in todays internation community," said foreign minister Jack Jackson, who repeated claims of disavowing all knowledge of his sisters plans to strip in the Super Bowl Halftime 'Show.'

"It's too cruel to let people waste their money like that." said an industry insider. "I mean, yeah, we're bookies, but even we have a conscience... Bets about sports, that their son is going to be a major football star by the age of 16, even "wacky" bets like Menelmacar becoming communist, we'll do them, but we can't bear to see people throwing their money away like that. Stadiums In Spaam

Here are the stadiums to be used in the 12th Football World Cup in Spaam
(should Audiospaam win).

Artánis National Stadium

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/asia/north_korea/may_day1.jpg

The largest stadium in Spaam, in the nations capital and largest city, it
holds 300 thousand people, and has been used in numerous international
football matches - World Cup qualifying, the Harmony Cup, the Founding
Nations Cup. Built 15 years ago, it has had a number of upgrades from its
original capacity of only 150 thousand to cope with the burgeoning
population of Artánis, which is now over 90 million.

Nátul Football Stadium

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/north_america/mexico/central_mexico/mexico_city_azteca.jpg

This massive stadium holds over 220 thousand people and is situated in
the north of Spaam. This 30 year old stadium has also seen many
international football matches over the years, and many upgrades from its
initial capacity of just over 100 thousand.

Drakken City International Stadium

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/asia/north_korea/kim_il_sung.jpg

The second largest stadium in Spaam's second largest city, this stadium
holds just over a quarter of a million people, and was for many years the
largest stadium in United Spaam. Having somewhat of a cult following, this
stadium celebrated its 50th anniversary last month, and is guaranteed to
have the loudest crowd.

Allasea World Cup Stadium

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/asia/malaysia/kuala_lumpur_jalil2.jpg

This colourful stadium is being built just for the World Cup, in the beautiful
city of Allasea on the coast in the nations West. Having an eventual
capacity of 200 thousand, it will be Spaam's second venue for the
quartefinals (the first being Artánis National Stadium).

Weegies Star: Wouldn't you like to know?

WFA loses Head of Sporting Clichés - Supporters would be shocked if they actually gived a toss.

Today, the WFA lost it's Head of Sporting Clichés - the part of the WFA that ensures all clichés are rigourously maintained, developed, and retain their cliché status.

It is said to be because the Weegie Press Network (a body that encompasses newspapers, television, and official internet sites) doesn't use enough in its sporting reports.

"Ultimately, at the end of the day, it's a game of two halves." said the ex-Head, Kenneth Mackintyre. "While we have created some clichés that have risen from the depths, proved to be on top of their game, and kept giving 110% throughout their long years out there, it's a shame that they're slowly being put to bed like this. Clichés are the creme de la creme of the sporting fraternity, and to lose them would be a gross injustice."

The WFA says: "Eranu."

Oh and by the way TnUI my other nation is the NSAFL....

Well, the ? means basically just that.

For some of the hosting bids, the current amount of teams is all they want.

For others, two more are required, so just hope one of them gets picked, and if not, WC13 signups should be around the corner.

Official announcement

The votes for World Cup 12 hosts have been collected, and for the first time ever...

WE HAVE A TIE!

Lemmitania/Kaze Progressa and Audioslavia/Spaam come joint first.
New Montreal States/Cockbill Street are third.
TBF/The Lowland Clans are fourth.

I've thought of having a second round, but I doubt that would help much. We could flip a coin  , or have the other contestants choose. Or, if anyone would like to change their vote and break the tie, please let me know.

I was gonna vote for Lemmitania/Kaze Progressa before I resigned. I'm gonna stay in the cup, but not RP. I guess I'll stay in the WCC as one of the voting masses. Lemmy is the head of the WCC now, it's up to him to start the WC13 Signup thread, or decide who should do it. Also who starts the new sport links thread.

Official WCC announcement

LEMMITANIA & KAZE PROGRESSA

Should they be unable or unwilling to host for any reason, hosting will be assured by the runner-ups, Audioslavia & Spaam.

Congratulations!

But seriously, congrats to Lemmy and KP - it will be a great cup :D

The Giant Zucchini delegate looks up. "Vote? What vote? I missed the vote?" He is in deep chagrin and is gnashing his teeth. He says however, "Lemmy and KP is a good partnership. It will be a good cup," after which he continues to gnash his teeth.

Hooray. Another World Cup in Lemmitania.

I am going to hazard a guess that WC12 will begin in one week. If KP and I have our acts together, perhaps we will begin earlier. I believe that there will be 92 teams including the hosts. Any questions?

Oh, and World Cup Thirteen registration (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2702751#2702751) is here.

How much of a moron are you? Honestly?

Fact 1) I'm going to have to be a little bit futuristic seeing as my population is 1.9 billion, and in better shape than China and India. So you can expect to have fairly large stadiums to take into account the large population. Are you going to say my population is a GODMOD?

Fact 2) There are a couple of stadiums with capacities of 250 thousand, and 200 thousand were at the 1950 World Cup final.

I'm sorry, but Alan Belmore IS a GODMOD, but you'd have trouble finding anyone to agree with you. You can honestly be a moron sometimes....

Fact: The Largest Stadium in the world is the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Highest attendance reports vary between 199,854 and 200,000 people. Any more would cost astronomic amounts anfd probably collapse under its own weight.

Without taking sides, if I could just shed some light on stadia and such.

Strahov Stadium - No longer houses competitive football, Sparta Praha use it as their training facility. 'Nuff said.

Maracana Stadium - Saw largest crowd ever to attend a football match with an estimated 200,000 to attend. However, this was largely in part because Maracana had very large areas dedicated to fans standing up and has now has a capacity of over 90,000 since it has become an all-seater.

Nowadays, stadia are very seldom built any bigger than 80,000, since every one wants a seat and no one wants to be too far away from the action. Just take Korea Japan for example, where only two of the many stadia built housed more than 70,000.

What is the scoring system for this WC? Does it have anything to do with the number of posts you have or what? If it does, that's completely unfair for those who don't have time to post all the time.
