Kain Irenicus' Saga, the Fate of a Nation - Page 2
His silver metal form crashed onto the stone, and he felt the halberd being taken from him. He spoke a word from in his helm and electricity passed through the halbard.
Five Civilized Nations

Lance tossed the halberd away, the blade impaled into the wall. Lance grimaced at the slight itch his hand felt because of the electricity... In anger, Lance brought his Cala Sword down on the Wayfarer...
The blade had little difficulty to pass through the silver metal, it crackled once, and then broke through. Blood began to seep out of the wound, the Wayfarer died from the shcok of it, but he knew the alternitive was far worse.

Lance pulled the Cala Sword out and wiped the blood off of it with a wet rag, pulled from his waistband. Staring up, he serveyed the others fighting against the Wayfarers...

IC:
Dropping from the dragon, Whiptail hits the opposing forces like a thunderbolt. His blades move at blinding speed, working in perfect tandem. Those who opposed him fell quickly to volleys of kicks, cuts, and slashes. Howling an unholy-sounding warcry, Whiptail sprays the area in front of him with elemental fire, scorching the earth as black as his scales. He draws back slightly, taunting his opponents as he steps over the bodies of the ones he had just slain, licking the blood from his katanas.
(OOC I thought you would go with Kain into the temple....ah well.)
(Whiptail)
There was a swift retalation, of arrows, magic, and blade. There where about thirty in all bearing down onto Whiptail now, with more far more coming. Archers aimed thier bows and firing, the heads of the arrows tipped with magical properties, they glowed various elemental colours as they traced to Whiptail uneeringly accurate.
Arcane words where heard, dispels, defenisive and offensive spells came towards him. These mages where not amatuers, no Psi was. They channeld, causing damage to the earth and sent thier magics towards Whiptail, fireballs, lighting bolts, bolts of blue energy, disabling spells.
And finally the warriors, armed with silver weapons, highly training and able, as they span their weapons around, thier deadly arc again mixed with arcane abilties. On a one and one fight, Whiptail would have had little trouble, but in combination of the other events, Whiptail had little hope.
(OOC Now I am being serious here, Whiptail cannot fight an entire army. You are right next the temple. Kain and the others had little resistance as it was a suprise atttack. Now it is less of a suprise, more people are here. You might be able to take out some of them, but you cannot stand there and fight them, not like that. Just trying to add fairness)
---
The combat raged outside of the walls and just inside it. Kain's forces had broken through, but they where losing momentum. They where becoming bogged down, this was where they where going to get masscred. The dragons did thier best, but they where taking thier far share of casulaties from the ballistas and spells, thier great silver forms bleeding and crashing down as they died. But they continued to bomb down thier cystal breath to aid the forces.
Explosions and the sounds of blades clashing, the screams of dying men and the crackling of magic was heard all around, it was complete chaos. And they wher hardly anywhere near the temple. Jarrid's force would win...

Lance stopped for a second and using his mental powers surveyed the scene outside of the temple. With growing awareness that Kain's forces were being slaughtered, Lance spoke to Kain telepathically...
Kain... Your forces are being slaughtered... The time has come for us to finish this once and for all...
Without waiting for Kain, Lance strode down the corridor, prepared for death...

Lance heard Azari and with a quick leap moved behind Azari and began to channel his magic into her...
Take this magic... You can use it better than I can...
As Lance drained himself of the energy, his Cala Sword dropped to the ground and he slowly sank to his knees, the pain of a previous wound coming back... Suddenly, Lance's mind began to wander through the celestial glades of his homeland, through the beautiful, tranquil waterfalls, and over the landscape. With a thud, Lance collapsed onto the floor...

Lance, he heard in his mind, Do not tell Kain that you saw me like this...
The magic she received was invigorating. She felt it flow through her veins, and the power she had received, enhancing hers. "power is what you always wanted, wasn't it?" she recalled the voice in her mind. And her reply finally was, "with all my black little heart." She raised her staff, in an attempt to drive back the forces.

Fear not... I will not tell...

Meanwhile, the spirit of the last Dragon Lord, Azal Telas, took control of Lance's body. The possessed Lance stood and joined Azari in the battle...

OOC: Whiptail still has some PC trouble, so he emailed me his next post.
IC:
Whiptail produces a small sphereical object from his cloak, as he snatches an arrow from its flight with his tail. The object is a flashbomb, which he tosses into the ranks of the enemy. A blinding flash is emitted, and he backflips onto the temple, decapitating two opponents in the process. He would not fight all of them, it was not possible and he knew this. In his typical fashion, he would harass them, by appearing and killing several, then vanishing again.

IC:
The commander of the rebels, ordered catapults moved up and launch pitch into the loyalist ranks. Slowly, the catapults were moved up by the rebels and set up right behind the line. To protect the catapults, small commands of rebel swordsmen made lightning strikes against the loyalist line. Pretty soon, smoke and fire from the pitch had obscured the two sides from each other.
On the right defensive flank, the fighting was ferocious as a mass of loyalist troops had attacked like a tidal wave. Although, the small rebel force on the right flank was unable to hold against the superior loyalist forces, the rebels refused to retreat and staunchly held on, giving better than they received. Entrenched rebel archers decimated the first wave of loyalist troops, but the second wave had penetrated the line. A lieutenant commander, Ginnson, rallied the rebels and launched a bloody counterattack, which threw back the loyalists. The third wave of loyalist troops hit the entrenched rebels. Ginnson was surrounded and hacked to death. Ginnson's men were decimated by the tidal wave. At the point that they were going to be defeated, two forces came to the rescue, a force of mounted knights and a force of archers. The archers decimated the loyalist mounted troops, while a concerted charge by the knights broke the loyalist attack. Repulsed, the surviving loyalist retreated back to the their line.
On the left flank, a loyalist cavalry force tried to outmaneuver the entrenched rebels, but were cut off from the loyalist line and virtually decimated by rebel swordsmen and archers.
The battle went on...

OOC: Sorry for the delay. I am still under grounded tyranny, and have no idea what has been happening. Daniella is in the process of burying all those not fighting yet, and their actual weapons. But I think it a rather boring job, so if the bad guys wanna have some fun with her, she needs to kick some ass so I can get over my terrible mood.
IC:
The spell was complete. The ground completely buried over 3,000 men and their stores of food and conventional weapons. What Daniella did not realize was how exhausted the spell had made her. She fell to the ground, and saw the world spinning around her. But fate had other plans. She heard her name, but it was different. Like it was all in her mind. She looked up and saw the wobbly outline of the dragon standing between her and the battle. In its claws was a man.
Drink this … he said as he set the body down and tore open the flesh. When Daniella was finished, her strength returned. She stood and mounted.
You did a brave thing. I will see you are not harmed. He said.
How can we communicate like this? It is different … not the same as Kain and I talking.
I am not sure, but I know this. You have a good heart. That is all. Now my Lady, there is a battle to be won. I believe we should go find the mysterious Kain.
Indeed.
(OOC I am sorry that I have been away. Good job there Civilised Nations, thanks. Forgive any mistakes to do with where characters are and such, if you are following Kain, just continue along.)
The sounds of their footsteps echoed throughout the stone passages, their feat beating a tattoo of noise through the passages which seemed so alien to Kain now. This was not a place of celebration of life anymore, this was a celebration of the madness which consumed the land now. Kain found the absence of this joy chilling….this place was a mockery of what it previously had represented.
A cool winter air flowed towards the group, it’s chilling air gently rushing through the stone passages coming from the Seer’s Chamber, a strange sensation which dampened the spirit and soul. There where complex runes covering the walls of the temple, the pulsated sadly, they provided a sublime blue colouring to the temple which seemed to drain any kind of hope. It was a far cry from the previous glory of the Psi’s sacred building to which great things had occurred. But now….
The group continued through these chilling halls, oddly there was no more resistance. The air seemed to chill more so as they went down…
And then the stone passage opened up to the destination that Kain had been leading them. It had a large brass door, with complex runes across it. Kain placed his cloven hand against the foor and spoke a few words in the language of the mages and wizards. It opened with a grinding noise, as the blast of cold air hit them.
“By the Gods…” Kain whispered in horror of what he saw, the eyes to which saw only death saw the once beautiful and holy place…now…
The Seer’s Chamber once brilliant in it’s majesty, a place of respect, a place of calm serenity and wisdom, a safe haven and a place of joy. The spirits of those who had died and still wished to make the ultimate sacrifice of not going into whatever afterlife there might be, to aid the Nation in their wisdom. The Seer members where deemed as heroes. Now…they had changed so much.
The room was spherical in it’s construction, seeming like a cathedral of some sort. At one end was a golden door with intricate runes of power which glowed slightly. The floor was made of marble and had many images of heroes fighting the darkness all around them, a mighty combat of the Psi’s forefathers against the darkness. As Kain looked at the holy figures of the legends of Psi history who where spirits of the Seer now, against the demonised warriors of the infinite darkness being vanquished by the binning light. How odd the image now appeared, it’s tale stirred no hope or pride within Kain.
On the left side of that door was another. A black one, which held the shadows and time. It was the Eternal Prison, the one which Xzar had been cast into. Kain knew what was in there….
(OOC Ok, just to clarify. Spherical room, marble floor. Short set of steps leading to door which has the door to the Seer in. Also, short set of steps leading to Eternal Prison)
Kain walked forward, Brightblade in hand as it began to tremble in anticipation of the next kill. Kain felt strange….as though he was being watched. The sense of being observed and analysed increased with every step. Kain stood in the centre of the room looking at the golden door.
And slowly it began to open inward, revealing the one which had caused such devastation, his crimson robe flowing around him, his golden staff thudding on the marble floor. Jarrid stared straight at Kain with a cynical smile and a arrogance. It was as though he knew that Kain was coming!
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/FR_ART/People/AznarThrul.jpg
“You!” Kain spat accusingly towards Jarrid, slowly making his way towards the door, as Jarrid simply stood there.
“So the traitor returns, corrupted I see. Come to kill the one person who might save Velmora? So…monster, do you have any idea of what you have done? I do not know what Xzar saw in you, you have become corrupted just as he was….”
“Silence! Jarrid you bastard, you dare call me such things after your actions! You have caused devastation and fear within this land”
“It was not my fault. If some of the infidels had not turned against the Seer, they would not have reacted so! Kain Irenicus. What a fitting name, you are nothing! You are nothing to anyone, you would have doomed this land with you lies and deceit! Why, when you still had any trace of being a person, you where little more than a petty human”
“How dare you! Humans are no means inferior…by what I see….Psi are humans. All these stories of the Psi begin holy, being righteous and pure, it has clouded your mind and most other arrogance bastards in this land! You shall be punished for your crimes, and your precious Seer!”
“Ah but I have allies too Kain…..” Jarrid snickered, and tapped his staff twice on the ground, giving a chilling ring throughout the room as it echoed.
Kain charged forward regardless, and Jarrid did nothing. Kain was possessed by his hatred and passion of the coming combat. Then….seven forms sprang from the ceiling…and Kain saw these ebings which all Psi law had prohibited. The Shadowkeepers, warriors of darkness. These where extremely powerful beigns, barely having any human relation to what they once where, once Psi….now these horrific apparitions. Armed in black plate mail, with Jarrid at the back aiding themThey attacked silently and mercilessly, bringing their dark weapons with a trail of darkness around them to the group….

OOC: Kain call for help!!!
IC:
The possessed body of Lance ripped into the Wayfarers, using powerful dragonic magic, spewing dragonic flames everywhere. Meanwhile, the floating spirit of Lance Crusade, rejoined his body and prepared to take back control.
On the field, the troops on both sides fought strenuously. The beleaguered rebel right was barely holding. Suddenly a mixed force of swordsmen, pikemen, cavalry, and archers attacked the right. The surviving commander of the right, Messad tried to rally his vastly outnumbered men. At the end, Messad fell, a sword through his chest. The right flank crumbled, as many rebels fled or surrendered. Meanwhile, the rebel cavalry commander, Acton led a strong force of horsemen and outflanked the loyalists. The appearance of Acton and his cavalry behind the loyalists forces brought great consernation amidst the loyalist troops. The small loyalist reserve force was scattered by the cavalry, who then charged the rear of the loyalist lines...
(OOC I thought you would have heard the commotion...all of the Wayfarers have fallen. For timing reasons and to make this far more fluid, I assumed that kain would go when all the Wayfarers where dead. i thought you thought they where too. My bad. Lance reclaimed his body, displacing the spirit of the Dragon Lord. Straightening and grasping once more his Cala Sword, Lance stretched. Suddenly, Lance heard Kain yelling. Believing that Kain needed assistance, Lance gestured to Azari, come, Kain needs our help...
Without another word, Lance rose into the air and quickly flew towards the Seer's Chamber.

Azari watched as he left...in seconds, she regained her demonic form, torn wings, skin an ashen tone, her eyes a deep blood red, beckoning for the blood shed. The moment he turned his back, she vanished, and arrived upon the Seer's chamber, unbeknownst, and remaining in the shadows. She would not have her form revealed...she must let her rage build up. She watched them gather...Daniella and Kain the targets. The siren noted something...Kain never knew it was her when she had attempted to get him under her spell...he would not recognize her in this form.
Slowely, she siren stepped out of the shadows. If you want Kain, you may have to take out a demon first, if you can handle it...which is doubtful. She looked a the one with black hair, and smirked. You really need to cut your hair or something, or shave it off like this infidel Jarrid... Her words cut through them as the demoness stalked out. I've killed a million pety souls...what will stop me from taking yours. Been a long time since I have tasted blood worthy of drinking. But you may serve as a pleasing appetizer.
The dark warriors crashed unto the people there, like a dark oily ocean embittered by the small boat which had defied it's effort of destroying it. The warriors cared not for the demon, they charged forth anyway. Jarrid was slightly startled by the sight of demon, but it was not visible. He remained at the back, his staff by his side. He did not cast a single spell.
The Shadowkeepers however, let all of thier powers into the conflict. Dark spells of death where fermenting all over the battlefield, the air began to become darker and more corrupt. Kain brought his Brightblade to bear on one...
He saw the infinate malice in thier eyes, their black gleaming forms sinister warriors of the darkness would have brought fear into any mortal.
But Kain was not mortal. His experiances of all the other darkness of the world gave him strength. He had fought far greater...these people would not stop him!
A banshee warcry came from the female Shadowkeeper, her sheild and sword coming to bear. She used the shield as a battering ram while he sword was upraised to stab down. Using magic of dark intentions, she spewed forth a dark vomit, which promised pain.
Kain reacted. He used his left hand to hold back the shield, used the Brightblade to parry the stabbing sword in her right hand. The spell was met by Kain's own. Rage and fury fed him, he was a battle engine of destruction. He knew no right...no wrong. He only knew that they where enemy, and they must die. Kain chanted his own spell and let loose his own spell from his mouth, a molten lava from his mouth which broke onto the death breath. The Brightblade aided Kain, but the two spells where caught in deadlock. The bastards where strong....
Instinct took over, Kain rolled to the left, he did not know why. He simply had to. He rolled, allowing her furious rage to cary on where he was not. Kain discovered that had he not have rolled, another warrior would have stabbed him. Kain reacted with his own sword....this was going to be tougher due to the number of warriors here!
The Shadowkeepers poured onto the demon, like a massive locust storm, thier dark forms charging, magic pouring onto Azari's form, thier own sowrds stabbing. The demon, although extremely powerful, would still take damage from these attacks. They knew the nature of the enemy, fire against fire, it would be the most intense flame which would win. Would the titan win, or would it be the swarm of locust?

Azari convulsed as the darkness went through her absent heart. She felt the pain run through her, as the siren let out a scream. She fell to her knees, blood running from her exposed flesh. It was a dark blackish red , stained and tainted. "You've...never...met Mephisto?" she asked, stammering to try and get up. "Because...I'm his other...half..." Her damaged wings contracted, sending her into the air, her eyes upon Kain. She could not get to him now, she had to deal with her problems first.
Kain could not hear her voice...the sounds of combat drowned out the words. He continued to struggle on, he had killed one Shadowkeeper, but thier number was many. He set about getting to Azari, at least then they could fight together, they would stand a better chance. With a flurry of magic, he forced his way through with skill and sometimes just his will which forced him on. Every second Kain had to do something to avoid a spell, blade, or body. He barged through the mass of blakc bodies, barely remaining alive in the process. HE was hurt already, the various wounds rather deep and regenerating slowly.
Then...he saw her fly up, he dark form rising above the mass. Now Kain was starting to worry, he had no sense of orientation. He tried despreatly to stay alive, the Brighblade cutting a deadly path through them, yet there where always places where Kain could not fight.

She unleashed a torrent of dark energy around Kain, her power combined with that given by Lance. She needed to protect him, she didn't want to loose her pawn. Her wounds began to regenerate as she unleashed the rage that was kept within her.
The siren beckoned her ever familiar call, one of seduction, though it was not upon Kain, but upon Jarrid.
Kain stood in the center of the room, hackign and slashing anyone who came to close, and many did. Azari was giving much needed support, which gave Kain a great deal of help. The Shadowkeeper's numbers where thinning....
Jarrid felt a sense of temptation, as he looked up to see the source. He smiled and tapped his staff. He was not effected by it. Azari fetl as though hundreds of people where trying to stop her, extremely powerful spirits. Nothing came of her efforts.

She did not break her hold, though it may be extremely faint, upon Jarrid. She never let his eyes go, her scarlet eyes engulfing his. "Jarrid..." she called out to him in a sultry voice. IT felt like the weight of the world was upon her shoulders as she struggled to gain altitude in the air that she was loosing rapidly.
Jarrid simply smiling in amusement. It seemed as though in this place, there where hundreds of spirits all around him. Azari could not determine who was who, there where so many souls! It was an extremely strange experiance...
Kain continued to fight, the Shadowkeepers being reduced by number. there where about thirty now....
Rave Shentavo
13-12-2003, 16:25
"Right...so you're hard to break..." she whispered, and shot up further into the air. There were so many voices. Mephisto...give me strength... she said to herself inaudibly. She swooped toward him, but clearly not in an attack, but in observation.
Jarrid looked at this winged creature himself. He knew what it was. He knew that Kain would come here with them. He knew that the rebelion would come. He knew that B'jorn would die. He knew the outcome of this very battle. He knew this because it was destiny.
Jarrid looked at this thing before him. He did not raise his staff, or cast a single spell towards it. Instead, as though none of the combat around them was occouring, Jarrid said, quite pleasantly, "Greetings Azari."

Lance walked in the room, his entire body awash in some weird power. His grip on the Cala Sword tightened. With his power greatly expanded, Lance roared and flung himself into the fray, attacking the nearest Shadowkeeper with both his Cala Sword and dragonic flames that spewed from his left palm...

"I know who you are. I know what you are. But, just for pleasing my curiousity, where you hoping in doing with Kain? You know what I refer." Jarrid said calmly. He tapped the staff again, and the shadowkeepers left just as swiftly as they had come. They trailed away like frightening black oil accross the walls as it slid back into the shadows.
Kain looked around in somewhat disorientation. He was just about to stab into someone with the Brightblade. He lunged into thin air, then turned around to Jarrid. "Does it really matter that much to you?" the siren said. "If anyone were to be a siren, you'd think it to be Rave wouldn't you?" she chuckled to herself. "Her end is coming...but Kain...[i]Kain's end is drawing near as well. Mephisto and I has had enough of his interventions, and frankly I could deal without him. But not hear...not yet...I want to be the one to kill him. And with your little warriors, I was protecting him so I can kill him...along with my husband, and make the way for my lover to take over."
"Indeed....it would seem that you have plans for him. No matter, either way, it turns out the same...." Jarrid said rather callously.
"Azari...let me deal with him." Kain said as he slowly confronted Jarrid, his eyes locked onto Jarrid with a boring stare of justice. He held the Brightblade in his right hand as it shook with fury.
Jarrid simply turned his tatooed head slowly and smiled. "Want to end this now? Very well....try your best, not that it honestly matters. You still do not know what you are, do you?"
"Enough!" Kain roared and leapt forward, his warface conforting in int's battle frenzy. The Brightblade was full of passionate rage too, for this was it's opertunity to be free....
Jarrid tapped the staff and became a blue hazy fog....which floated steadyily under the door. The Brightblade traveled through the gas harmlessly. Kain marched up to the gold door....then hesitated when he reached to open it. It was The Seer's Chamber....
He closed his eyes and breathed out.
"Azari....whom are you loyal to?" Kain said. It took his will to do so. He turned around slowly on the spot, and stared at Azari.

Lance jumped back, breathing a little heavier, as he watched the disappearance of his opponents. Angered, Lance walked next to Kain and raised the sword in front of him, the blade in front of his head and the hilt four inches from his chest. Lance began to chant.
Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. "God is sleeping," Azari said softly, and looked at Kain. "You can feed from me when all is done..." She looked at Jarrid, a smile crossing her face. Try and take my boy...
Daniella, flying towards the palace, heard something behind her. A man's voice. Her blood ran cold. She turned her head and saw a hooded figure behind her, on a hill. His voice carried to her. She knew he was saying a spell, but she didn't have the time to defend herself before it hit. A blinding white light hit her, and she began to feel burning sensations all over her body. She fell from the dragon, unable to hold on and not properly strapped on. Her next memory was a man standing over her. The same man.
Who are you? His voice boomed. Why are you here?
Daniella sat up, and began to shake.
"I ..... I don't know ..." She said, her memory in shards. The man smiled, seemingly pleased.
I saw you with that beast, Kain. I know you are of his kind.
The word Kain brought some memories back, but they were choppy, and she could make nothing of them.
Come with me. I shall call you Gabriel, until I learn who you are.
Daniella thought of her circomstances. She was alone, lost, and she had no idea of who she was, and this man seemed cold but kind. He reached out and grabbed her, pulling her off into the forest ...
OOC: Daniella is in no harm. This man will turn out to be one still faithful to Kain. He is going to test her, to find out what is going on and see if Daniella herself is faithful to Kain. If not, he will destroy her, but she is. Eventually she will gain her memory back. I just had to throw in the twist.
(OOC Sure, feel free to do as you wish, this should be interesting. I am sorry but I am going to have to post the major post later, I am currently working on other writing projects (paid ones!!!) so they kind of take priority. rest assured, something high quality will be coming!)
Daniella, now Gabriel, followed the man into the rocky turrain, down into a cave.
You will stay in here. he said, leading her into a cave. But you will be locked in one of the warmer chambers. You will have to excuse the crudeness of the rooms, as I don't entertain much. He said with a grin. She felt his eyes on him.
"Who are you?" Gabriel asked him. She sounded so innocent, much like her human form.
"My name is Yendor. I was here, loyal to Kain when he was our leader, although in secret. He would not have liked me then, but I have heard he has joined the Shentavo clan." He spoke calmly, more like a human. Gabriel saw a flicker of something in his eye.
She stumbled on how to respond. The memories flashing in her head made no sense to her.
"I ... I ..." She stammered. "I do not know this Kain you speak of." Tears of frustration came to her eyes. "I don't even know who I am!" Yendor put a hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
"Come Gabriel, you will learn in time. For now, I am going to take you to your new room. You will stay with me until we get to the bottom of this. I do not believe you were fighting against Kain, but women hold many secretes ..."
Yendor lit a torch and led Gabriel down deep into the caves. She saw heavy doors made of either rock or steel that probably led to other rooms. She came to a room with bars making a small window next to a door. Gabriel saw a bed and a few empty potion bottles. Yendor opened the door, led her in, then shut it. He unlocked a cabinet and filled the bottle with a purple, sweet-smelling liquid.
"Drink this Gabriel, and sleep. It will not help you remember. That you must do on your own, but it will come easier to you in dreams. Your kind do not sleep, and that is the only reason I give this to you."
She took off her cloak, hanging it on the peg next to the headboard, then climbed in the covers. She drank deeply, and fell into a deep sleep ...
OOC: Dreams to come later. As soon as you guys get out of the temple, someone has to notice she's missing and come looking for her. She won't remember anything at all still.
(Sure...the next post will be coming...)
