Final Roster is as listed above. This is a problem, since 19 is prime and really large for a round robin for everyone. I'm gonna field my own team to make it an even 20 and have 2 divisons of 10 countries each. It'll be a round robin within each each division, with the top 6 in each division advancing to the playoffs (top 2 in each divison get a bye).

Gaudies prepare for regular season in Open
Regular season starts against Never-Setting Sun Tigers
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Barcelone Gaudies, a team composed of regulars and practice sqauders from the CTCFL Moderns of Barcelone, will start their regular season in the North Pacific Football Open Tournament in Lure Ching Guo against the Never-Setting Sun Tigers, who happen to be veterens of the Open.

"We're all on an extreme sugar rush," Gaudies and Moderns Coach Vasmin Ecles said after practice. "All of us are very excited to take part in the Open. We'll see what we're made of. Our players from the practice squad will gain valuable experience. Oh, if you'll excuse me for a moment, I need to break something in excitement."

The Gaudies are missing 25 starters from the Moderns roster - 11 are a part of The SuperOwner Bletch's national team CTC Cardinals, who are competing in the NationStates American Football League (NSAFL). Eight others, including star QB J.J. Durden and star SS Braderick Ellington, are sidelined due to injuries. The remaining six were left off the Gaudi team in order to play untested talent from the practice squad, cited owner Riker.

"Our organization is taking a big step in promoting our players and futhering our craft," said the owner. "We want our practice squaders to surpass their expectations and feel organic during big-game situations. We had our share of injuries this past [CTCFL] season, so we have a high priority to have guys that can fit right in and contribute on a superior level."

The Gaudies have been placed in the Red Division, which appears on paper to be a blood-spilling gauntlet compared to the Blue Division. Large nations Twoslit Experiment and Tresville are opponents, and the Canton Dragons, Ozworld and Never-Setting Sun Tigers, as well as Twoslit, are veteran teams. The other teams are equally formidable talent-wise; word has it that the quarterback for the Fibonacci Ratio throws perfect spirals each and every time.

"We have our work cut out for us," said Coach Ecles. "The road will be tough, hard and sticky."

Encouraging to the hopes and pipe dreams of the Gaudies is the play of the practice squaders. An offensive line made up of mostly rookies have blocked well for star running back Gudeau Barca in scrimmages. Kallry Triston has the speed to be an effective defensive end in the pass rush and Damon Overton will command a double team sooner than later. The most surprising development going into the season has been the play of versatile rookie quarterback Alex Phoenicius. The practice squader has played beyond Moderns backups Young Morley and Theridan Chakings, showing intelligence in recognizing defenses and athleticism as a running quarterback.

"A.P. has some kind of learning curve," Coach Ecles chuckled. "We have a lot of confidence in him, and he could surprise many people."

Sun never sets on Tiger offense
Never-Setting Sun routs Gaudies in opener, 27-3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Never-Setting Sun Tigers rushed for 193 yards and passed for 266 yards against the Barcelone Gaudies as the Gaudies were crushed by the Tigers 27-3 in the season opener for both teams in Lure Ching Guo.

Rookie QB Alex Phoenicius opened the game completing his first five passes for 53 yards, including a 21-yard strike to WR Albert Luque on a third-and-fifteen that put Barcelone in field-goal range. That led to a 43-yard field goal by Clinton Edwards, and it looked like the Gaudies would have no trouble moving the ball on the Tiger defense.

It turned out to be the only highlight for the Gaudi offense.

The Tigers rebounded from the 3-0 deficit to put up ten points before the end of the half, leading 10-3 at halftime. With the Tiger defensive line getting pressure on Phoenicius to start the second half, the Gaudi QB threw two interceptions on two straight drives. The Never-Setting Sun offense capitalized on the turnovers, scoring 17 points in the 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach.

"Give them credit - they put pressure on A.P. and contained him in the pocket to prevent him from scrambling," Coach Vasmin Ecles said after the game. "Our defense got wore out, and they just flat out ran over us."

"We got beat by an excellent football team today."

The Gaudies dropped their first game of the season to start 0-1. Next they play large nation Twoslit Experiment in what looks to be a tough game. Barcelone had no major injuries against the Tigers, and Coach Ecles has said Alex Phoenicius is still his starting QB.

"Sure, sure, A.P. will play," said the Gaudi coach. "He played well when he was not running for his damn life or on his back! We have some adjustments to make to get ready for Twoslit, but I'll tell you what, we're gonna field 53 players that will play their hearts out and give you everything they've got!"

A Game To Remember
Gaudies rally to stun Dualies 38-35, gain first Open victory
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QB Alex Phoenicius rallied the Barcelone Dualies to take the lead in the fourth quarter after two scoring drives, then watched as a Twoslit 52-yard field goal with three seconds left fell short, preserving the upset over Twoslit Experiment 38-35 in the North Pacific Football Open Tournament.

A fatigued Phoenicius had few words after the win. "Wow. I'm exhausted and drained. What a game. Wow."

The rookie quarterback threw for 218 yards, two touchdowns and an interception the Dualies returned for a touchdown. Phoenicius also rushed for 46 yards on six carries, including a QB sneak for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Gudeau Barca had 125 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Albert Luque hauled in Phoenicius' two TD passes while totaling eight catches for 151 yards.

Combining the 401 total offensive yards for Barcelone and the 429 total offensive yards for Twoslit amounts to 830 offensive yards during the barnburning affair.

"Both offenses were rolling today. It was just a matter of who scored last," Coach Ecles said after the game. "Our team showed great poise against a tough opponent. We never believed we were out of the game."

For the second straight game, the Gaudies scored on their first possession of the game, this time an 38-yard touchdown strike from Phoenicius to Luque. Twoslit answered right back to tie the game after a 44-yard touchdown pass of their own.

It also appeared Barcelone would collapse in the second quarter, as they did in their first game against Never-Setting Sun, after the Dualies scored on the interception return and another touchdown pass to go up 21-7 with 5:31 left in the second quarter. However, Phoenicius regained his cool, with help from the running of Barca, whose seven-yard TD run in the last minute of the half cut the Twoslit lead to 21-14 at halftime.

The two teams looked sluggish in the third quarter as the defenses seemed to stiffen. After a dropped pass in the endzone by Gaudies WR Pat Grier, Clinton Edwards came on to kick a 28-yard field goal with 3:45 left in the third quarter to make it 21-17. But suddenly after that, the Dualies' hot QB-to-WR tandem connected on a 73-yard bomb on their first play from scrimmage after the Edwards field goal, stretching the lead to 28-17.

After three minutes in the fourth quarter, a Twoslit fumble was recovered by LB Wesley Weiss and returned 22 yards for a touchdown. However, once again the Dualies answered right back, this time with a 52-yard scamper by their halfback to give them another 11-point lead, 35-24.

"Those type of plays are daggers," said Coach Ecles. "But we didn't pack it in."

It was here that Phoenicius directed a scoring drive that took up 7:20, culminating in his QB sneak at the goaline with 2:03 left in the game to cut the lead to 35-31. After recovering the onside kick, Phoenicius drove the Gaudies to the Twoslit 20-yard line, from where he threw his second TD pass of the game to Luque with 0:49 left on the gameclock.

Using their timeouts, the Dualies used short passes to get to the Barcelone 35-yard line with three seconds left, but the field goal try fell just short of the crossbar.

"They fought like hell and deserve a lot of credit," Coach Ecles said. "We're lucky to come away with a win, as they're a helluva football team."

Missed Tackles, Missed Opportunity
Gaudi missed tackles in 4th doom Barcelone; Ozworld wins, 27-20
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After what was starting to look like another fourth-quarter comeback by Barcelone, Ozworld's tight end rumbled his way through five tackles (yes, that's no misprint, O Ye Changeds, five missed tackles) on his way to a crushing 61-yard TD pass play with 1:17 left in the fourth quarter, sealing the game for undefeated Ozworld over the Gaudies of Barcelone, 27-20.

"That is unacceptable. Pure sharkcrap," an irate Coach Ecles remarked after the game. "Our defense has got to stop these big play for us to go far in this Open. We're capable of better, I believe in these guys."

Rookie QB Alex Phoenicius passed for 166 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, bringing his three-game TD to INT ratio to 3:5. RB Gudeau Barca lumbered for his second-straight game over the century mark, running 27 times for 132 yards and a touchdown. WR Albert Luque was shut down for two catches for 22 yards as the Ozworld defense seemed to focus on him; however, this freed up WR Pat Grier, who had six catches for 86 yards.

Ozworld (3-0) started the scoring with a seven-yard TD run on their quick opening drive. For the first time in their inaugural Open season, Barcelone (1-2) did not score on their first possession of the game, which was thwarted when the first of Phoenicius's interceptions was returned to the Barcelone 13-yard line, leading to another Ozworld touchdown run. Ozworld was ahead 20-0 before the Gaudies answered back with Barca's 3-yard TD run at the end of the first quarter.

Barcelone played ball control the rest of the game in order to keep the Ozworld offense off the field, using Barca and fullback Gus Robano to chew up the clock. The strategy led to twenty unanswered points...until the colossal blunder of fundamental tackling on the winning touchdown by Ozworld's tight end near the end of the game.

"We can depend on Gudy when we need to," Coach Ecles said of his star running back. "It definitely helps to have him back there considering A.P. is only a rookie, and Gudy's a durable guy - he can take the pounding."

Phoenicius threw his lone touchdown of the game in the second quarter, an 11-yard pass at the back of the endzone to Guadi TE Dallas Locke. Kicker Clinton Edwards made a 42-yard attempt to end the first half and was also good from 35 yards with 3:56 left in the fourth quarter, but missed a 40-yard field goal wide left in the third quarter.

"If we can just eliminate our mistakes on both sides of the ball, I think we'll be fine. But it wouldn't hurt to go over fundamentals," Coach Ecles finished.

Next the Gaudies play the Canton Dragons (1-2) from the Scandavian States.

The Never-setting Sun Team are flying high. Even if they have been a bit fortunate to win most of their matches they have become national heroes. It is rumoured that they will all be given the NSS medallion for services to entertainment and sport next month.

Quarterback Guy Houston said: "Of course it would be a great honour. It's not everyday your hard work and determination gets acknowledged. We are extremely pleased to be doing so well and hope it continues all the way to the final."

In a move aimed at quelling many national disturbances (due to the overwhealming bad play by the team), and brought on by disappearances of players and coaching staff alike - the nation of Technofreak has decided to relocate to a different continent.

The survivors of the national squad wish all the remaining teams good fortune in the NP Gridiron Playoffs, and those survivors who can still walk are looking forward to early retirement.

The sports ministry is further attempting to quell the riots by proposing a new national sport which will suit the conflict hungry fans in Technofreak. Our new national sport is . . . . . . . . .

As I said earlier, the New Edinburgh Blackwatch will be our representatives for next season. We honestly hope that the Cup will finally be ours, three seasons of seeing it before our eyes and not quite having the reach for it is maddening.

football is banned in the Theocracy of Alex-Sandria.

Sandra doesn't agree with it, and I have to do what she says. She says I have to spend more time with her and the kids and that I should leave the ruling and the dictatorshipping to my ministers.

But still, we'd love to help in policing the event. There was some unpleasantness during our last tournment. It was...unpleasant.

So we'll be happy to send riot police to any state that sends us emergency arms to aid us in our struggle with the evil Nimajnebs next door.

Our analysts say we are one large storm away from being captured
