The Republic of Lure Ching Guo has announced the creation of a football tournament to be held later this month. All nations (even those outside the North Pacific) are invited to join in the festivites. If you would like to sign up, please leave a post here.

PS: This is the football with gridirons, wacky touchdown dances (Sapp was funny), and "any given Sunday".

Discussion with alien race that made judgments about Earth without ever meeting a person from it:

"You have never been to Earth, you don't understand our languages, this is made VERY clear by what you say you are 'translating' from Earth texts. ALthough, I did like the article on the evolution of the blood sacrificein human culture. However, that is NOT what major-league football is for...."

1. So is that two or three confirmed entries?
2. The tournament will not commence until at least after the North Pacific Track and Field Games (too many international games at the same time divides attention)

We, The Federation of The twoslit experiment, encourage all healthy forms of competition. Sue is an especially health-conscious person.
Therefore, we will present our own award-winning team, The Quantum Wave-Particle Dualities. Our team is especially talented at the quantum theoretical uncertainties of American Rules Football. We have the latest techniques for training our athletes to be multi-talented. We intend to make full use of quantum theoretical aberrations so that other teams will have no idea what we might do until after measurements of what we have done have been taken.

Imperial Unions does not participate in sporting events, our people are kept fit by military training, and compulsory morning workouts at their employment. However, if required, we will supply Military police for security. Armed with HK Mp5A3s, MT9f beretta pistols, shields and batons. Tanks and APCs are also avalible. Security breaches will be dealt with with excessive force. Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.
12-10-2003, 22:38
1. The Republic would like to politely decline Imperial Union's offer of security at the games. We believe that our own security staff is sufficient for the games as of now. However, if for some reason the situation spirals out of control, it is good to know that the Union can be counted on to contain the situation. Your offer is greatly appreciated.

2. I'm going to go spread the word of this tournament at the other North Pacific tournaments, so you guys hang tight, 'kay?
13-10-2003, 20:39
We accept the fact that Lure Ching Guo's security is ample for the game.

Our glorious team is affectionately referred to as The Duallies, a reference to a larger pick-up truck with four rear wheels on a single axle. They are known as a utility vehicle used for serious work such as moving a football over rough terrain through obstacles.

Coach DK Royal, legendary coach and predecessor of JB, feels very fortunate to escape week 1 with a hard fought victory against the Canton Dragons. "The dragons played their hearts out, and they really clawed their way back into the game when it looked like we had the game in hand. You can tell a good football team by how they react when they are down. And I can tell you that they are a good football team."
The annual football tournament is being played in Lure Ching Guo. It is not known at this time who the Rebels will play next.

The crowd. The noise. Their first game. The pressure.

Simidh posted a stunning 13-10 come from behind victory over Pocono in both teams opening game of the The North Pacific Football Open Tournament.
Pioneers head coach Aubie had this to say in the post game interview:

"Hats off to both teams. This was a classic defensive struggle. Neither of our offenses could really get the ball moving. They (Simidh) played hard. I'd like to play them again 'cause I think the fans will get another helluva a game for their money. Our team has nothing to be ashamed off after this loss. We'll work on a few things and blocking assignments for the line and see if we can move the ball more consistantly next time out. The D kept the game close for us and they'll have to keep doing that till the offense gets rollin'."

The Pocono Pioneers next face Twolist Experiment Duallies who are coming off a 17-6 loss to the Collingwood Magpies (Jayzer). Both teams will surely be eager to get their first wins under their belts.

The kingdom of JBRoyal saw their beloved Rebels' championship hopes take a turn for the worst today. They were whipped by the Never Setting Sun Tigers 30-19. The Rebels were held under 20 yards passing for the game. Coach DKRoyal was gracious in defeat.
"They came to play, and today they were a better football team than us. They have an explosive offense, and they shut us down with their pass defense. I think they are the team to beat."
The Rebels fell to 1-1 on the year.

Be my guest.
30-10-2003, 04:52
The tournament has already started. It seems a little late to be negotiating refreshment sales. If that is what you decide, that is fine.
I have a suggestion for the next tournament. The country with the winning team should take the 10% off the top, as suggested earlier.

Actually, that sounds like an interesting idea.

Royal's Rebels were dealt another blow today giving up a 4th quarter lead against Ellhnistan. Royal's Rebels took a 20 - 17 lead into the 4th quarter, but were then outscored 10-0. Ellhnistan threw the game winning touchdown pass :57 left, and time ran out against the Rebels. A pass interference call on 3rd and 14 kept the game winning drive alive.
Coach DKRoyal, who is well known for his laid back attitude, had some harsh words for his team.
"I want to give Ellhnistan credit for winning the game, and they played well. But we beat ourselves today. Critical mistakes at key moments cost us the game. If we are going to be a winning football team, we can't have these things happen. I can think of three veteran players that did not play up to my expectations today. This will not happen again, and if I need to make some changes to the starting lineup, I will."

Snipetopia

The Pocono Pioneers earned their first victory in three tries by downing Ozworld. Fans celebrated through the night and groundhogs frolicked happily throughout the land. But head coach Aubie had other things on his mind.

"This was a good win for the team. Another tough game, but the groundhogs scampered our way today. We'll let the players rest and savor the win tomorrow. But then it's back to work. We have a game against Snipetopia next and, just like us, they'll be hungry for a second notch in the win column. And they won't be in a very good mood after that 48-21 shellacking last week from the Canton Dragons. We'll do our best to be ready for them."

Pocono and Snipetopia are both currently 1-2. This should prove to be another good match-up with one team emerging at .500 at the end.

1. Sorry it took so long to post this. I have to apply to colleges now, so the tournament may be haphazardly advancing. I have Thursday and Friday off, though.

2. I am so in anguish right now after seeing the Giants-Jets game. It went to OT and was 3 seconds away from a tie! Giants won, 31-28. Wanted the Jets to win so that both of them would be 3-5 (not great, but still play-off possible. Heck, does anyone remember Jim Fassel's guarentee in 2000 or the Jets' most improbable divison win last year?)

Royal's Rebels narrowly escaped with a 13-10 victory over the Free Voters. Coach Royal gave credit for the victory to a fierce rush defense that only allowed 11 rushing yards in the second half.
"It's nice to see the defense make some plays. It was a big improvement from the week before, where our defense broke down on some key plays. I challenged some of our key defensive players this week, and they really stepped up."
The Rebels are now 2-2

After a back and forth game it all came down to a dramatic turn-around in the last 3 minutes. The kind of turn around that makes ESPN's Top 10 plays of the day. The fans, once again, got their pierogi's worth. "I thought I was going to have a heart attack" was the comment from many a fan in attendence.

"We really put ourselves in a hole that fourth quarter, after matching them (Snipetopia) through the first three. That onside kick and two-minute-offense, that's what all the hard practice is for. Our guys came through big time. Monday we'll get the game plan rolling for next weeks game with JBRoyal. We'll install some offensive sets that might counteract their D. I was impressed with their D against the run. Hopefully we'll be able to run against them and free up the pressure on the passing game."

JB Royal and Pocono seem equally matched and are both 2-2 heading into their week 5 matchup.

Well, American World Cup teams have, until last year, pretty much sucked.
08-11-2003, 11:30
Pocono came out with a big third quarter against Kimmi and put 24 points on the board enroute to a 30-17 win. The win puts the Pioneers back at .500 with a record of 3-3.

"Our offense woke up today, thank god" stated head coach Aubie at the post game interview. "Our D has been playing pretty well all season. Not great, but keeping us in the games. Our offense is still struggling a bit. But today they showed what they are capable of. We changed a few things at the half and came out and executed our game plan to perfection. We have to be able to do that every week or else we won't move up in the standings very much. "

The Pioneers lost a tough game the previous week to JBRoyal, 13-10. We apologize for not having a post game interview that week. Technicians blamed it on a groundhog that gnawed through an exposed communications cable. The damage was set at 1300 pierogis.

3 key interceptions by the Shaka NuNu Quarterback kept a competitive game from being close, as Royal's Rebels defeated Shaka NuNu 27-13. Coach DKRoyal was pleased with his team's effort.
"They really played hard and were mentally tough today. I am very pleased at how we played and the result. You also need to give credit to Shaka NuNu. This game was much closer than the final score, and they had many opportunities to really put some pressure on us. Those turnovers were key."

JBRoyal announced this morning that their gambling service for the Football Tournament will cease immediately due to a lack of interest. FlushRoyal, who was placed in charge of the service, cited lack of interest as the primary factor.
"It's sad to see it go so soon, and we hoped to provide the service throughout the tournament. We felt like we had a good idea, but nobody repsonded. The gambling industry has some other ideas to try, so stay tuned."
It is not know how many okies were lost on the service.
10-11-2003, 15:53
Legendary gridiron coach DKRoyal was more than happy to speak his mind when asked abouth the closing of the sportsbook. "The lure of gambling is a trap. The people are the victims. It's like going to the prom with the homecoming queen and having her leave with your worst enemy. Not to mention the corruption that it leads to. I don't want to worry about my players blowing a play or two here or there in order to preserve a line. If you think that doesn't happen, you are naive. I know that the nation is thinking about getting into the gambling and gaming industry, and I hope this teaches them a lesson. President JBRoyal needs to get involved and put an end to this before it gets out of hand."

Royal's Rebels are preparing to take on Snipetopia in a crucial week 8 matchup. A win will keep the Rebels in the top 4, a loss could put them in a sixth way tie for 5th, depending on other outcomes. The offense should have some success against a suspect Snipetopia defense.
Coach DKRoyal understands the importance of this matchup. "There is not much difference between being at the top and somewhere in the middle. It's the little things that must be done every down. We just came off a game averaging 5 yards per carry, and their defense is a little suspect, but as you all know games aren't played on paper."

Don't throw in the towel yet. Just this weekend, Atlanta (losers of 7 straight) downed the Giants (now everyone is screaming for Fassel's head again), Jacksonville upset Indianapolis, and old Fluite got the Chargers flying by the Vikings. In the words of Chris Berman, "That is why they play the games."

Speaking of the Falcons-Giants game, this is just plain creepy: You (Nastic) (1-7) are playing the Twolist Experiment Duallies (4-4). The exact same records of the Falcons and Giants, respectively. Even more creepy, you have lost 7 in a row. I swear, I completely made up the schedule by random.

In an interesting and unexpected development today ALL the Nastic players were kept behind in the locker room and one by one they were taken outside and hung,Right next to the John 3:10 signs.
Huh. It's like when Atlanta (a couple of weeks back) benched its entire secondary when they were dead last in defensive passing. Are you sure you don't have Dan Reeves running around the coaching staff somewhere?

To all: if it seems like I'm trying to rush things, I am. I want to get through the midseason and get into the playoff races soon.

Royal's Rebels hope to avoid a two game slide when they play Kimmi in a critical Week 10 matchup. Coach DKRoyal seemed more intense than usual in his weekly press conference. Coach Ginji Kawai of the Jurai-helm Royals, who has remained shockingly quiet until this point in the tournament, has finally spoken up with some commentary today.

"I'm really proud of how far the team has come. We started out strong, and we're still very much in the game. Some teams get lazy after a couple of wins at the beginning of the season, but my boys have never let it go to their heads. I think that's just what the problem was with Beacharogia - they were resting on their laurels, and the past two games have shown that the other teams just aren't going to give up and let them pull away with a perfect season. We're very anxious about the upcoming games, but whatever happens, we plan to take it in stride. Best of luck to the other teams - we've seen a lot of skilled ball handlers out there, and I expect we'll see a lot of surprises in the playoffs."

Coach DKRoyal has been publicly criticized for his recent pre game comments before the game against Kimmi. In a pre game interview, Royal stated that although they have a better record than Kimmi, that Kimmi could be a better team. This comment comes after he has already been criticized for his outspoken opposition to gambling, and his public criticism of some of his players. It seems that the mild mannered soft spoken coach has come out of his shell since the start of the tournament.
"I don't think I'm any different than I have always been. The only thing is that I want to win more and more every day. That desire is increasing. I think the media makes a big deal out of every word I say. I'm going to say what needs to be said to motivate my team to play their best. If I have players that respond to criticism, I'm going to criticize them. If I think players will repsond to me saying a team is better, that's what I'm going to say. Do I really think Kimmi is a better team? I'm not going to say what I thought at the time, so you media folks can't make a big deal out of it. But they beat us, so I guess what I said was right."

The Battle of the Royals will take place in a key week 11 matchup. The Jurai-Helm Royals are currently in first place by a game, but a win by Royal's Rebels will possibly create a whole slew of teams tied for the best record. This is an almost must win game for Royal's Rebels if they wish to remain close in the championship hunt. A loss will put a 3 game gap between them and first place. Coach DKRoyal is not available for comment. He is avoiding the media this week as protest to what he feels is mischaracterization of his comments.

As if this thing needed any more weirdness, I found a really funny (at least I think so) Flash movie:

Anyone who follows rap at all will probably recognize the lyrics. Forewarning: The movie was made by an American, in case any of you opposed the war.

Nearing the end of the season, the Grizzlers have firmly established themselves as a middle of the pack team. In a last ditch effort to entice his team to reach their potential, Coach Rae has promised to pay the tab at the team's favorite bar if they reach the finals. The team has yet to make a comment other than "pass me a cold one...."

In other news, the owners have promised to do away with long standing team mascot "Growlie". Team members teamed up with the "Grizz Boosters" booster club to design a new mascot; "Guzzle". Need we say more? The new mascot is to be implemented at the start of the playoffs, if the Grizzlers manage to last that long.

Go *hiccup* Grizzlahs!

Coach DKRoyal broke his silence with the media after their most recent loss. "We are a frustrated football team, and it shows. It is embarassing to see this team that I thought had such character just give up. When you have your star players walking around with their heads down, you know you are in trouble. I don't think we expected to win this football game. I know that I have more desire to win my little pinky than the rest of the team put together, and I'm trying to let some of it rub off. The last few games it appears that I have failed. We can either sit around and bitch and moan about what 'could' have been, or we can get off our asses and work hard and turn things around. We represent the Nation of JBRoyal, and it's time we started playing like it."

Wow, coach. Way to break the silence. If this is your public statement, I'm glad I wasn't in the locker room after the game.

EGORoyal, known throughout JBRoyal for his television talk show "Are You Getting Sleepy?" will now be on the football staff for Royal's Rebels. It is not expected to interfere with his popular show, although it may be recorded in Lure Ching Guo, depending on negotiations with the tournament hosting nation.
EGORoyal appeared excited when the announcement was made. "A wise man once said that 'half the game is ninety percent mental.' While I can't say that the statement is a hundred percent accurate, I can tell you that when you get two evenly matched teams on the field, the team with the mental edge will win more than lose. My job is to get in these guys head and instill confidence and a winning attitude. Hypnosis will be involved. Team members will be hypnotized and will be given suggestions. I can't go into more detail at this time because I don't want to give away any secrets. I can tell you that you will see a significant improvement of the way the team plays."

2. Official stuff: I have Kimmi down as 8-6, not 7-7. Also, Shaka NuNu has 7 wins.

Go ahead, JB. Just don't interfere with any other teams' affairs, especially off the field (i.e., hypnotizing the opponent and saying they suck)
21-11-2003, 05:46
Playing so many games in such a short time may tire some teams, but the Grizzlers have held their ground well. Coach Rae is actually proud of his team for once! Lately the team has begun to worry about the practice of other teams. QB Jonny Jonson Jr. has questioned the newest fad in the league "hypnosis". Coach Rae has told him not to worry, the team will continue with the same tactics as always. Hard work, determination, and steroids. Err, make that 'Gatorade'. The team has also began to worry about playing the pint sized Nastic Knights, the hottest team in the league. Hillbilly Warriors sports analysts are busy as we speak, trying to determine if the team has already played the Knights or knot. :D Peace to all, and good luck to Nastic. The few citizens of HW who refuse to root for the home team have taken great pleasure in supporting the Knights. The Knights jersey has become the top seller at Hillbilly Sports Inc, according to CEO Ed D. Neighborson. Playoffs, here we come!
21-11-2003, 06:51
The power of hypnosis had little effect on Royal's Rebels as they were thoroughly whipped by Simidh 30-17 in an embarassing losing steak. EGORoyal, who was recently granted permission to tape his popular show on location in Lure Ching Guo, said that it could take "days" for his powers of suggestion to take effect.
"Some people do not take to the powers of hypnosis immediately. For some, it may take days of sessions to see results. It is well known that people with lower IQs are harder to hypnotize than people with higher IQs. I'm not saying they are dumb, in fact they are pretty smart as far as football players go. One of the things I am stressing to the team in their sessions is that they are smart and alert to their surroundings. Once I get this through the teams head, we can move on to more powerful suggestions."

-Hey Hotpants has tiebreaker over Jayzer and Twolist (has yet to play Ozworld)
-Free Voters has tiebreaker only over Twolist (has not played Jayzer)

Barbaratic has been mathematically eliminated (pending double checking of arithmetic)

Coach DKRoyal collapsed in the team locker room shortly after the team suffered a loss to Twoslit. No immediate information was made public, and the players have not left the locker room. Reports are beginning to come in saying that they saw Coach DKRoyal being wheeled out on a stretcher and placed on a JBRoyal Medical Helicopter. It is speculated that it is not life threatening because he was not treated at a Lure Ching Guo Hospital, but flown back to JBRoyal.

MDRoyal, DKRoyal's personal physician, issued a press conference on the collapse of Coach DKRoyal. She stated that DK had been undergoing chemotherapy for three weeks to treat brain tumors which were discovered six weeks ago. DK wanted to finish the football tournament and retire prior to making his ilness public.
"DK's collapse last night is due to a progression of cancer that was found on his brain six weeks ago. At the time it was recommended that he immediately retire from football and spend time with his family. His wish was to retire with a championship at the Lure Ching Guo Tournament. The work and stress of the tournament have taken a toll, and regrettably he will not be able to coach in the next few games. Right now DK is resting in his room and will probably be released after his next round of chemo, scheduled for next week. More information will follow, this is what DK has allowed me to share."
23-11-2003, 05:21
MBRoyal will replace DK until he is healthy enough to return to the team, if he recovers. DK was diagnosed with brain cancer and wanted to wait until the end of the tournament to make it public, but a collapse after the game forced the news out before he wanted.
When asked about the situation, MBRoyal was quick to talk about the health of DK. "This was an absolute shock to me and to the team. I have been around the man and coached with the man for five years now, and he is a wonderful person. I am truly shocked that he could keep this a secret, but I truly understand his desire to do so. This does explain a lot, however. People that know DK know that he has not been himself lately. He has always been an easy going laid back coach who has been great with the media. Some of his recent statements and comments along with his strained relationship with media members can probably all be explained by this. I know that some of his recent actions have had me stumped. I wish DK the best in his recovery, and I will dedicate my job as interim coach to him, and I know the team will try to win for him."

The kids of Nastic have failed to make the play-offs in their first compitition and are considering making a complaint about the standard of referee in our last game. "Nastic draws unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (complaining of holding); Ozworld, with penalty, drives to Nastic 20 and kicks 37 yard FG"
but we have great hopes for them in the next tourny.

Interim Coach MBRoyal fell to the Grizzlers 10 - 7 in a defensive struggle. Both teams had trouble moving the ball, and the defense scored the only touchdown of the game.
MBRoyal appreciated the defensive effort his team gave. "This has been a tramautic week for the players, and we have been working closely with our team shrink...er hypnotist to help us focus. It takes a lot of character after what we have been through to play as hard as we did on the defensive end. If we keep playing like this, things will turn around."
MBRoyal replaced DKRoyal after he collapsed in the team locker room. DK has been diagnosed with brain cancer, and is still being hospitalized but is in good condition.
MBroyal has been a longtime assistant coach, and has had his opportunities at head coaching jobs, but has stated many times that this is where he belongs. He is well known for recruiting and his relationships with players and the media. He was a key asset last year when contract negotiations broke down between the players and their union.

Coach MBRoyal and his team all had blank stares and seemed to have canned responses to questions. When asked how it felt to lose to the Barbie's, he responded "We are a skilled football team, and we will win games." When asked how it felt to come up just short on fourth down, he responded "we are a skilled team, and we will win."
WRRoyal, who caught the ball on a crucial 4th down play late in the game, but was ruled out of bounds, was asked for his comment.
"I am a skilled metal worker...I mean football player....sorry, I must have listened the wrong tape before I went to bed last night. I will continue to make plays, and we will win games."
EGORoyal, the team hypnotist, was not available for comments after the game, as he had to leave for the taping of his popular show "Are You Getting Sleepy?"

"After we clinched a playoff spot, we got a little lazy and lost a few games. We need to keep our heads in the game - our next loss will be our last. I'm proud of this team, though, and I really think we have what it takes to go all the way."

Geordie, Garry , Gerry and Geoff were the happiest hillbillys this morning after their recent win. Coach Rae is ecstatic over the team's recent performance. "We truly have pulled it together over the last little while, going from a middle of the pack team, to the final four. I am proud of these boys, but don't tell them I said that! Ozworld has pulled off some serious upsets in these playoffs, they are a team on fire. Right now, the Grizzlers need some R&R if we hope to go any farther. Ranting and Reaming 'em out, that's what it takes for these guys! So before I wear out my voice gabbing with you, I gotta go motivate the team."

The boys have all the motivation they need, as they remind Coach Rae of his promise to pay the tab. One more game, and the coach will have to open his wallet!

I've pushed back the deadline to Monday 0500 GMT because I've been away the last few days from my comp.

I've also decided how concessions at the tournament will be run. Anyone will be allowed to sell whatever they want on the premisis as long as:

1. The seller gets a permit from the Tournament Committee
2. 5% of the seller's profits go to the Committee at the end of the Tournament (if the seller makes a loss, he/she will be partially reimbursed)
3. No product or service sold directly interferes with tournament proceedings (i.e., #1 foam hands are allowed, but signs with obscenities are not, please use common sense). If someone is not sure, he/she may check with the Tournament Committee.
4. Local commerce and civilan laws and codes apply (i.e., health and saftey codes, among others)

EDIT: Did any of you guys see the Saints @ Jaguars game?! That was just unreal.

the Technofreak Rampage would like the chance to play in this esteemed competition. We would like to add that rumors of our unruly fans invading the pitch and abducting quarterbacks are quite untrue - it was only one or two isolated incidents, and in all cases, most of the player was returned to thier next of kin.

1. Wow. 7 teams in 3 days. At this rate, we're going to have 44 teams! I'll have to split you guys up into groups/conferences/divisions in that case.
2. Are you asking about each indivdual game or the standings?
3. Two other guys posted stating they want to join *before* sign-ups began (see last page and the one before). Do you guys think I should include those entriees even though registration hadn't yet occured?

For fun: What is missing, and why are they missing?

Nueva Madrid Press--Barcelone, Community of The Change (CTC)

Here come the Gaudies!
Bid for North Pacific Football Open Tournament continues crazy football week
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In what has become a week of saucy football fury in The Change, a group of investors led by Owner Riker of the Community of The Change Football League (CTCFL) announced today that a team from Barcelone will compete in the upcoming North Pacific Football Open Tournament.

The team will be known as the Gaudies.

"The Gaudies will consist of practice squaders and starters from the Moderns of Barcelone (of the CTCFL)," Riker detailed at the press conference.

This, of course, comes after the formation of a Change National Team by bitter rival Bletch "The SuperOwner," owner of the Nueva Madrid Sharks. The Change National Team, the CTC Cardinals, will compete in the NationStates American Football Leaque (NSAFL).

"Two things--I'm not blind and I'm not a deranged ruffian," joked Riker. "It's an 'open' tournament. It says, 'Open.'"

The quest for the Azure Cup begins.

And as for Super Bowl XXXVIII...hmm...Patriots, 17-13.

I would definitely put money on Carolina considering the spread has New England -7! I'm actually looking for the upset here. Those saying it won't be a good SB need to be dragged behind the chariot. Nothing wrong with the hard-nosed, blue-collar foosball.
