April Fool's Day - NationStates

So, what do you think this year's practical joke on the players of NationStates other than the malicious conflicker virus, will be?

I had a nightmare about Max Barry going onto the News Section declaring this

"We've updated the site with a new war function! Just click the button beside your opponent, and a war and its causalities is calculated! Yeah! Problem is there is a bug with it, and all it seems to do is drain a nation's population in one click...oops. So, were asking everyone to not click the war button on anyone's page until further notice. Thanks!"

I then watched NationStates rip itself apart, as everyone drained each other's population with a click of a button.

Scary stuff.

And a question to more senior members of the floor, because I would hate to miss the festivities, when does April Fool's start for NationStates...I mean, its already April 1 in some places of the world... ?

With so many changes under discussion, I think this "joke", like last year's, will be a long-term, substantive change.

Well, we already had the dating site hoax.
And then the Homeland Security thing...
I remember the Regional Mods which came after I believe.
Ademas there was the whole UN thing which turned out not to be a joke......

The whole April Fool's Day thing is pretty unpredictable, I'd imagine things they could have tried would have been like if Nationstates was hacked, or if they changed everyone's flag to a picture of Mudkip while everyone's motto changed to "So I herd u liek" and things along that line...

Actually, it was Homeworld security, then NationDates.

And then there was the crash brought on by NationDates. I hope this year's prank doesn't take down the game.

I thought this year's prank was the admins disguising as "Kohlhaasenbruck" and introducing a rancid pile of garbage entitled "Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act.""

No?

I have to admit I was convinced that the History feature was our April Fool's prank, because it was created on March 1st (which would have been pretty sly), but then it was apparently a real feature.

As well, no one ever changed the blatant spelling mistake in the History feature which I've poked and prodded the Tech forum about for ages...which seemed suspicious to me....

Just for the record, that was my idea. ^_^

I also screwed with someone who was sending confused telegrams by pretending to be General Hammond.

Ah, yeah... I can see it now...

A crinkled old, bespectacled Unibot talks about his past to a youngling, "Back in the old days, the mods - as we called them back then - acted like a young chap ...AND get this! They posted these hideous proposals all over the board... what good fun..eh!? Back then we didn't have all your fancy things to keep us occupied like regional issues and stuff like that, we just had to rely on the good, old sense of humour... hehehehe, that one still cracks me up...", Unibot laughs for a few more minutes as the newbie force feeds the feeble man his mashed potatoes, and "medicine".

We have the April Fools joke! (I Think):

NationStates DS (http://nintendo.nationstates.net/)

There are some quotes I doubt have been made by these players:
"It's my favorite game, only smaller!"
--Flibbleites

"The graphics are almost as good as the real NationStates!"
--Reploid Productions

"There's no forums to crash or servers to lag, that's the best!"
--Daistallia

"It's like Mario Land, if Mario was a petty despot with delusions of world conquest and the title of 'Il Duce'"
--Scolopendra

"Raiding is SO much easier now! My friends and I just pass around the controller!"
--Kandarin

Plus a few dubious ones:

"It's almost too much like the real thing!"
--The United Nations

"At last I understand what the developers have been spending all their time on!"
--Maxtopia

The United Nations doesn't exist anymore, so I don't think the United Nations would be able to make that quote.

Then Maxtopia? That's Max Barry himself, not knowing what the developers are doing? Wow!

NationStates DS is just a custom "NS page" being run on the Nintendo DS browser. Nothing more.

Another tidbit I found, this time in the screenshots:

The Last Decision
The Homeworld Security Bill was passed 666 votes to 42.

Also, it said it would be coming soon to the:

Nintendo DS, PlayStation PS, XBox360, Wii, and Commodore 64

How many people run the Commodore 64 and are on NationStates?

EDIT: Looks like more than I thought... but I expect there are more using the other mentioned ones.

For some reason, suddenly on April 1st all the Stats on NSEconomy have been INVERTED! Total madness! :D

Check Texas, for example: Click (http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy/nseconomy.php?region=texas&columns=category:population:economy:gdppc:tax:lastlogin&order_by=gdppc&order=asc)

And this is unbelievable: http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy/nseconomy.php?region=texas&nation=newtexas
He alone was more economically powerful than entire regions!

Umm, me. Commodore 64s are practically unkillable. Mine still runs great. Can't say the same for a lot of the tapes though.

Poked my nose in to see what prank was in store for us this year. My favorite is still the security one. Nation Dates came close to surpassing it, but didn't quite make it. That warning scared the daylights out of me until I realised the date :P.

:) Ah, yes. It's nice to see my action shots being used to promote our newest venture. Mind you, I told my husband to turn off the flash when he said he wanted to take a picture, but he didn't listen to me. But, I can assure you that those action shots are legitimately made. Mind you, those are from the closed beta, so nothing is perfect. Most of the links would loopback during beta. Some worked. Of course, forum access was spotty at best.

Haha. I was only around 1-2 hundred million at the time, so the change didn't really affect me all that much. I was more along the lines of *'whatever'...continues playing.* Although, I still think there are some nations who were so mad (and didn't realize it was a joke) that they left and never came back. *sighs...silly people*

WTF!!! it says on the calculator that my economy is imploded and I have no civil or political rights. I hope he changes it back. I've worked hard to get it just the way I liked it!!!

Also I thought that the NS Nintendo DS was fake too. I also was hoping it was a prototype for a stand-alone version of NS. Oh well maybe sometime soon.

There's also those two meters on the bottom screen- that vertical one is a measure of your diplomatic standing; the higher it is, the more people have set that their nations are on good terms with yours.... the lower it is, the more are hostile or openly at war with you. The other one is your economic meter and shows overall how good yer economy is. Instead of just issues affecting it, other nations can set their trade status with you; the more that are trading with you, the better! ... Which is why there's Economic Freedom in the freedoms thingie and the normal Economy thingie from NS1 isn't there. How free people are to do what they want with their money or something.

I've definitely enjoyed the NSDS beta so far better than I have the NS2 beta and just wish they'd have let us talk about it sooner!
