I was just wondering, I have a nation of 36 million people and no mandatory military service. What would be a fair military size for the RP threads? And if it is not to much trouble, how could I find out more about what a fair size would be (as my nation, of course, is always growing)?

360,000 would be fair, for all branches of service. If you have a more militaristic society, 700,000 or thereabouts would be fine. Smaller nations should have a military from 1-2.5% of their country. Bigger countries like myself have standing militaries in the sub-1% range.
It all depends on what you RP really. If you're a dictatorship with no social services, your military will be larger, if you're a social democracy, it should be closer to 1%.

take a look at what your defense budget is (NSTracker) and compare it to real countries and their budgets. In your situation, your military would be about the size of the Italian military (Though probably larger because you are constantly growing and don't want to constantly update to fit population and budget changes)
