About Global News Network

GNN, or Global News Network is fast becomming one of NationStates largest news organizations, and the only known publically owned, publically contributed, multi-regional news organizations in the game. GNN is also the largest distributed news source, simply because of its central location to NSPF.

Founded on February 7, 2008 along with NationStates Public Forums (NSPF) as a way to publically promote the forum, GNN is loosely based off of NSNewsWire (http://z9.invisionfree.com/nsn/index.php?c=1) (NSN). The success of GNN is direcly related to the success of NSPF, in that, when embassies on the forum are active, news can be written. During inactive times, GNN takes on the primary role of promoting, through news, NSPF, its members, embassies, and world events.

GNN is generally unedited content, pulled directly from individual regional news which is posted in embassies. Periodically interviews are conducted on upstanding, or news-worthy members.

GNN will post links on the each of the RMBs of the feeder Regions to the latest News Story, every time a news article is published. There are currently two main members of the GNN staff - Romenoch and Staro.

Global News Network is NOT a news just of this embassy, but rather a networked collection of news from various publishers from around NationStates. Any region, organization, or alliance may post their news here.

IMPORTANT DATES IN GNN HISTORY

February 8, 2008 - Imperialism Unites the World (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=43) - This was GNN's very first post, at a time when NSPF was only a day old. At that time, the little-known NSPF was a private regions forum. The region name was 'Imperialism' which has long-since died, however, the forum opened itself up publically shortly thereafter, to become today's largest forum on foreign affairs.

February 16, 2008 - World-Wide Newspaper (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=111) - After this point, GNN began to take submissions from embassies throughout NSPF. GNN went from a one article paper, to multiple articles a day.

March 24, 2008 - NS News Wire Partners with GNN (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=355) - GNN makes its first partnership with the massive NS News Wire. The success of the partnership was shortlived however, as NSPF fell into a two month decline in activity and died.

July 17, 2007 - Strong Words Over Death, I (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=590) - This article marked a major turning point for NSPF, as the forum turned large from an embassy based site to a news-based site. From this point forward, GNN has been recognized internationally as a leading newspaper for NationStates.

August 10, 2008 - Zionist Takeover of ICP (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=726) - For the first time in GNN History, GNN covered stories from outside NSPF regions. The growing demand for stories on all topics was won, and soon after this event, GNN began hiring in other staff-members to meet the demand, including Staro.

October 8, 2008 - GNN Gears Grind to Hault (http://imperialism.ipbfree.com/index.php?showtopic=2003) - GNN Staff do a major self-assessment of the news, and begin the a new process of gathering and processing the news. Romenoch makes the decision to close the 'Submissions' section of GNN, and only report news from updated embassies within NSPF.

NSPF, THE NEXT GENERATION

Both Romenoch and Staro will be stepping down for full-time NSPF work, to focus largely on Real Life issues. With Staro, this means school work, and with Romenoch this means a relocation to Seattle Washington and a new job. Because of this, Romenoch and Staro have promoted two new administrators to take over their positions.
