Why are you a member of the WA (or not a member)?

I'm just wondering what people's reasons are for joining (or not joining) the WA. I'm not a member because I don't like the idea of my Nation States country's laws being determined by the WA

First off, the "World Assembly" forum might be a better place for this topic.

Second off, I'm a member of the WA because I enjoy the concept, the roleplay, and especially the unnecessary duking it out over fake laws that have no effect on anything, save a mild stats adjustment. I also like waking up one morning to discover that the latest Human Rights law has turned my nation into "Anarchy." That's always fun. And as far as the WA mandates go, I don't know if you can remember, but overall the WA's laws have far exceeded the quality of those under the old United Nations. That's another plus.

Till the founder of the region I was in got resurrected, it was needed to protect the region. Now I stay in mainly because it is something of a status to have been the regional guardian for nearly 4 years.

OOC Reason: Second nation - There you can have only one WA nation per IP.
IC Reason: Because... Why you ask INFIDEL??? Ride them trought! <masses of crusaders in coats with black crosses shouting somethink in german pressed you down into the earth riding over you...>

I don't know really, but it makes my nation feel more special.

Defender/Invader stuff.

Also, why my main is not WA is that the WA messes with my economy.

OOC: I enjoy the RP aspect, debating and legislating involved.

IC: The Altan Steppes believes in international engagement and involvement, which we believe improves all nations and provides mutual benefit. The WA is just one aspect of this; we also have a large and growing diplomatic service and trade ties with several nations, and are always seeking more.

ooc: I used to be involved with the UN/WA but left because I realized that the way my country was RPed, the citizens would never allow any group/nation to tell them that X-activity is now illegal.

Now one has to ask, is there any point to the WA outside of those RPing in WA? One could always just ignore the rules they do not care for like some Real Life countries do, regardless of what the WA 'rules' are. If you think about it, there isn't any enforcement of the rules and hardly anyone that debates in the WA actually RP's in II so being caught breaking the rules is slim-to-none. Even if a nation is caught, there isn't a WA collition that goes out to bring their country back inline in II (because any action would be an International Incident), so really the only point to the WA is for people who want to RPing over issues that really doesn't affect anything they do (since normally they only play in WA and not in II where the laws would affect their gameplay). Sure there are a slim number that do cross over but not enough to matter.

Even a collition was created of WA members who found out another WA member was breaking XZY rule, and created a war thread in II, there is the all-mighty ignore cannons. So overall....nothing that takes place in WA has any affect on RP.

Example: There was a UN resolution about single hulled oil tankers which I created a thread (while I was a UN member) in II about how my country was using them in our daily operations. Kept it going a week solid and had some good RP but not a single UN member that did RP with me said anything about it the resolution I was breaking. Point being, no one cares what the resolutions are outside of the WA part of this site.

Different strokes for different folks.

The Illustrious Empire of Itinerate Tree Dweller is not a member because many of the policies of the WA run against the policies of this government.

I won't join the WA for two reasons.

1. My belief in westphalian sovereignty.
2. The WA functions on majoritarianism.

I'm not a member because the verification email to join seems to be getting lost. I applied twice. Yeah, I know 'try another email', but I try to avoid fatigue.

I'm in the WA mostly for the military (invading/defending). However, I also occasionally post in the WA forum and vote against some of the legislation that is against Ruzanian principals.

When I was last here as a RPer, the World Assembly was called the United Nations.

My problem with it was that member nations were required to comply with UN resolutions in the sense that your nation's laws changed to reflect UN policy in game. I looked at the World Assembly and saw that it appeared to me to be the same thing as the old UN, so I decided not to join.
