The good, the bad and the ugly.
Now, in Nationstates there are many shades of grey. There are nations that are evil and they know it. There are the few intrepid paladins that champion the cause of good and are unflinching in their resolve to do so. Then there are the guys who do what ever it takes to keep their share of things theirs.
In this thread I'm attempting to clarify some of the generally accepted concepts of good and evil. Do you consider yourself a good guy or a bad guy? Why do you consider yourself these things? What do you find truly despicable or entirely respectable?
In terms of D&D rulings, I find myself to be a Chaotic Good, insofar as that I mainly fight against a common evil by any means necessary, and that I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty in the process.
My Ethics:
Good - Anything to protect people without infringing on their individuality, considor myself the John Locke advocate.
Bad - Anything that is done to purposely hurt someone or to limit someone's freedoms for a selfish reason.
The Sertian Empire
Good - The Sertian's believe that they are the only ones capable of bringing peace to the universe by, rather simply, controlling it. Therefor they believe their nation to be the epitome of 'good', despite the fact that there is crime and that there is poor. For this reason, anyone that complies to the Sertians wishes is considered good (to a limited extent, similar behavior would also be considered good, although they would look at someone being 'foolish' for believing they are the rightful rulers of the universe).
Bad - To defy the Empire is equivalent to trying to stop peace and unity of the universe, an advocate of anarchy so to speak. Deeper than this though, anyone who endangers a biosphere (via pollution or WMDs) is considered barbaric and 'evil', such species are to be conquered and taught the wrong of their ways or wiped out to preserve the precious habitable planets there are.

Sertian, Skaugra, this forum is for Gameplay and regional advertisements. I'll treat what Sertian's written as an eccentric advertisement for his nation, but further discussion on the philosophical angles you've raised between you doesn't really belong here.
Sertian could:
raise it in General, without the roleplay aspects so it would be a neutral discussion of philosophies, OR
make a Factbook about his nation in a roleplay forum (probably in II) and include those comments, OR
begin an RP (II or NS) that somehow espouses or defends the arguments.

I consider myself to be a champion of the Righteous. Hobbeebia has long stood for holiness, goodness, and purity; and has been thrown into combat time after time in the defense of others and against the virus known as the dark biomech.

I thought gameplay was the place to discuss...gameplay. I reckon player IC definitions of good and evil would go here as they are very strong elements that would effect how they play the game.

Ah, I see. So it's meant to be "I play my nation as a good nation and this is what makes me call it good ..."? Or "evil, and this ..." as the case may be? That's fair enough.
I was misled by your "Do you consider yourself ..." line, which sounded as if it were going to lead quickly to one of those "Am I a good/evil person" General topics that go on forever.
That's fine, as long as you stick to the IC aspects, then.
