Marriage laws and traditions

We in Laemondae have chosen to adjust marriage laws.

Before marriages were arranged by the priestess + priest and young people could be married at age 14+

We have decided that the priestess + Priest will still arrange marriages but instead of one suitor, the young people will choose from a list of suitors. Young people may be engaged at 14+ but marriage may not take place until 17+

One wonders why you would feel the need for change-the old system seems simple and elegant, but we do have one question:why are you raising the marriage age? Are your teens driving dangerously under the influence of matrimony?

Young people in our nation (mainly girls) were being forced into arranged marriages when they were barely 14...often these girls do not get to finish school. Although some may say we are very old fashioned young men now want well educated women raising their children so that their children can become well educated citizens.

Also by having more than one possible suitor for the young people to choose from it gives them more choice as to who they are going to marry while maintaining marriage traditions.

We are also trying to protect young girls from becoming pregnant in their early teens...first child is usually concieved a short time after the wedding/honeymoon.

Some may also say that our engagemnt age is very young...this is because a girl may choose to train as a priestess when she is 14. If she chooses this she goes to the village of faith priestess training academy...this is an all year round boarding school where the girls are trained...they do not have holidays.
