National Religion

Void Templar
22-03-2008, 17:03
I was wondering, does your nation have a national religion, and if so, what is it? Void Templar's is Kalism, the worship of the God of the Void, Kal. It's a pantheistic religion. And if it's your own creation, eg Kalism, how far have you developed it? I'm in the process of writing the Bible of Kal.
...
Yes, I have that much spare time.

Catawaba
22-03-2008, 18:00
Catawaba has no official religion, preferring to allow the citizens to freely practice religions of their own choice. However, the largest religion is Christianity, the largest sect being Catholic.

Next would native polytheistic religion of the Taung people. It is centered around Mira, the Goddess of Creation and Destruction. She is considered the Mother of all Catawabans, Taung or not. She is frequently seen or depicted as a mythosaur, a very large monitor lizard.

However enclaves of most of the major religions are scattered through the country.
Kirav
22-03-2008, 18:36
The Kiravian Empire has no official religion, and the creation of such was prohibited by the Liberties Act. Despite this, Kirav is an extremely religious country.

The largest religion is Coscivian Theism, a very loose religion claiming the existance and benevolence of an omnipotent God. It has many interpretations, so a great deal of variety exists within Coscivian Theism itself.

I created it for several resons:

-It coincided with my own beliefs when I started NS.
-A fictional relgion would give me more creative flexibility.
-It wouldn't require a whole lot of scripture or other ecclesial paraphernalia for me to insert into my nation's history.
-It works well alongside Christianity(The second-largest{and growing} religion, and my own current religion).
Cookesland

In the early days of Cookesland, Yestarianism (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/yestarianism.html) was going to be the main religion, but I kinda lost interest. I think I might reform it a little and make a new nation for it
West Corinthia
22-03-2008, 19:07
The state religion of West Corinthia is Corinthian Polytheism. It is a redux of Roman mythology which places the founder of the Corinthian Empire, Czar Vasili Kotov, as leader of the gods rather than Jupiter. All following Czars are also deified in lower positions upon their deaths.

Nanatsu no Tsuki
23-03-2008, 00:38
The Principality of Nanatsu no Tsuki doesn´t have an official religion, but 75% of the population is Buddhist. The other percentage is divided between Hinduism, Catholicism and Protestantism. So, belief tends to be very amalgamated in the Island Nation.
Altackia
23-03-2008, 02:29
Altackia has no official religion, in fact religion is discouraged because we believe it only encourages separation of the human race and prevents unity.

The Holy Marsh is united under His Glorious and Righteous, the Grand Holy Marsh.
Volzgrad
23-03-2008, 05:41
The United Socialist Republics of Volzgrad's main religion is Roman Catholicism. Almost all of Volzgrad's citizens are Catholic with only a very small minority being Orthodox Christian. In fact, St.Adriansburg, the capitol of Volzgrad is named after the patron saint of our nation. He became famous for building the 4 massive cathedrals in the city.
Nosorepazzau

Nosorepazzau has a official religion called Vavakass. It's actually a hybrid of two religions created by other 2 other players,Kashism(Northern Calaveras) and Wawaism(ShogunKhan).I liked both religions so I took what I liked from them and put it together. It turned out awesome, exept that it turned out more like Kashism than Wawaism.
Third Spanish States

http://www.venganza.org/(Some atheists and agnostics have a certain sarcastic sense of humor in "worshiping" that religion) and http://richarddawkins.net/(not a religion exactly). Most of them believe in memes and all of them believe that organized religion is the worst thing that ever was invented by mankind(after government and capitalism), and the existence of nations like Doomingsland is considered "irrefutable proof" of their claims about the evils of religion.

Now... if you take a look to the center of their territory... you'll find some large amounts of people who believe that Earth is intelligent and speak with them through the trees, that the environment is sacred and who use hallucinogenic substances for ritualistic purposes.

And of course, there are some significant amounts of Christian Anarchists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Anarchism), characterized by a very extreme pacifism focused on Gandhi's concept, inspired by Tolstoy, of nonviolent resistance. Although they don't consider religion evil, they believe that all organized religions will become corrupted and that Christianity shouldn't be controlled or become the dogmas ofy centralized Churches or that buildings are "homes of God", because, true to Tolstoy words, they believe that "The Kingdom of God is Within You" and disdain Churches and priests, usually meeting among themselves in quiet, peaceful places rather than temples, and they don't believe that "nonbelievers go to Hell", in fact their specific beliefs dismiss altogether the concept of a Hell.

There is no official restriction on religions, although the last time Scientologists tried to settle in Third Spanish States, although no violence happened, they weren't received with a friendly welcome at both gunpoint by angry mobs and basement hackers filling their websites with shock porn pictures. And certain religions would have serious problems to be accepted by the population as a whole, or to be even allowed to set foot in the Confederacy. Usually reasons are either because the religion is considered "Facade for grifting stupid people through tithing" or because it is a "Fascist religion".

*Edit: "Cryonic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics) Burials" are well-famous traditions among the skeptics, in the hope that far future technologies will grant their frozen bodies(or brains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuropreservation)) reanimation and clinical immortality.

Freedom of religion is sacrosanct in the Federal Republic, and there is no state religion. Most whites are Protestant, most Hispanics and Xt'Tapolopaquetl natives are Catholic; balanced out, I dare say there's about an equal number of Protestants and Catholics in the nation at large. Both the president and vice president are Catholic, but non-practicing. Most Xt'Taps actually practice Cuauhtemocism, an extremist sect of Catholicism holding that Jesus Christ preached jihad against the infidels, and that his Second Coming cannot occur until the True Believers have trampled the heathens and apostates underfoot. So they carry on a sort of Palestinian-style intifada against the Kennyite non-believers. So all the religious conflict int he nation is just a bunch of Christians, claiming "my Christ is bigger than your Christ," and so on. There are Jews and Muslims and Buddhists, too, along with Kawaiian and Wenaist immigrants, but no one pays them much mind. Nonbelievers, too, and atheist corpses, all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Magdha
23-03-2008, 07:15
Magdha is a secular state. All religions except Scientology are legal, and people of all faiths interact and coexist peacefully and cordially. The breakdown of religions is as follows:

Roman Catholic: 25.5%
Buddhist: 25%
Protestant: 17.8%
Zoroastrian: 7.6%
Muslim: 5.5%
Hindu: 4%
Other Christian: 3.9%
Jewish: 2%
Other: 8%
Atheist: 0.7%
Vaer-Mithra
23-03-2008, 08:15
Vaer-Mithra is a hippie state and there exist vast and various forms of neo-pagan and esoteric/occult religions and practices. Here's the rough breakdown:

60% Wiccans/Neo-Pagans/Discordians
25% Agnostic/Atheist/Pastafarians
10% Judaism/Christianity/Islam
5% O.T.O., A.A., Gnostic Catholics, Freemasonry, Scientology

All are highly liberal in bent, as vast numbers of conservative citizens left in disgust/do not take part in government. The only exceptions are the highly organized cult/occult groups which make up the latter 5%.
St Edmund
25-03-2008, 11:16
St Edmund's population has always been predominantly Christian, with the two largest and most influential sects being the Godwinnian Catholic Church (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/godwinnian_catholic_church.html) and Roman Catholicism, although the proportion who are actually believers has declined in recent decades. Official ceremonies usually involve clergy from both of the main churches.
Various other 'world' religions also have [relatively] small groups of followers in the nation: Hindus are the most numerous of these, then Jews, Buddhists, and Muslims.
There is also a "native" religion called 'Yoodoo', practiced mainly in Old St Edmund's 'Carib' communities, which -- like its counterparts in various other parts of the Caribbean -- derives mainly from traditional African beliefs (originally brought to the area by slaves) with some Christian and local elements added.

Garcia-DeLeon
26-03-2008, 03:47
The official religion of the Republic of Garcia-DeLeon is Christianity. My nation is extremely religious and acknowledges the religion at an extreme in its government. Most of the Christians are Catholic, considering the major Latino populous in Garcia-DeLeon.Next in the Christian line is probably Protestantism and Evangelism. The next religion would probably be Judaism and Islam, though these religions make up less than 5% of the total population. The Assemblies of God have also reached Garcia-DeLeon and have converted many of the other religions, and Agnostics.Garcia-DeLeon loves its official religion of Christianity, and knows it will live forever.
Arrakis Fremen
26-03-2008, 04:33
The Arrikas Fremen is a nation really mostly based off religion, in some ways. People look to the Reverend Mothers for religious guidance and prophets, like Maud-Dib, for leadership. They also "worship" the Shai-Hulud (it's a really gigantic sand worm) to some degree.
Frontenax
26-03-2008, 04:53
The official statistics of the first nationally-conducted Frontenaxi Census revealed that:

Roman Catholic 63%
Jewish 18%
No Religion 14%
Hindu 4%
Muslim 1%

The Royal Family is of Roman Catholic descent, however, before the establishment of the commenwealth parts of the nation were ruled by the Jewish House of Eliezer, which currently is one of the most powerful families in Frontenax. Only recently, however, has the government ended its official preference of Roman Catholicism and has adopted a secular government. Roman Catholic influence is still prevalent as many of the nations top schools, hospitals, and social institutions are private and founded in the Catholic tradition. These institutions are, however, by law open to all and due to the liberal and open nature of the Frontenaxi people in general, little to no discrimination based on religion is found.

We honor the great Kane or Kaïn.

The Pan African Union
26-03-2008, 18:05
No national religion. However, I assume my nation being a sub-saharan African state probably has the same religious diversity of countries like Congo, Rwanda, and Gabon. Some Christian, some Muslim, and many tribal religions as well as your assorted non-believers.

I would never disrespect any segment of my population by proclaiming a national religion.
Laemondae
26-03-2008, 20:37
Laemondae has a national religion... the faith of Lunaea.
Lunaea is our godess, protector of the moon, sun, stars and sky.
We worship other protectors but Lunaea is superior to them all.

we do not have a sort of bible yet although we do have sacred scriptures written by the first high priestess as to the outline and rituals of our religion.

Here are some basics:

First/Infant Initiation generally takes place when you begin Infantry(Infant school) at age 3. It is often held on the childs 3rd birthday and you officially recieve your first name chosen by your parents.

Second/childhood initiation generally takes place when you begin Primary school(age 6/7) and usually takes place the weekend before you start.

Coming of age generally takes place on your 14th birthday and you recieve a name chosen for you by the high priestess of your faith region (religious area). This name becomes your middle name and is used for faith ceremonies if a girl chooses to enrol in priestess training at age 14 (training starts at age 15, 1 year of preparation before training).

All ceremonies take place at night except for weekly services. coming of age takes place at midnight, in a sacred outdoor area (usually field with altar).

Faith temples usually have an overground section for services and an underground section for training/study.
Imota
26-03-2008, 21:09
The Grand Holy Empire of Imota has no official state religion. However, a majority of the population practices Imotan, the former state religion prior to the secularization of the government. Imotan is an animistic faith similar to Shinto, and has a pantheon of dieties much like the ancient Greeks. That said, worship of Imotan can and often does overlap with Buddhism.

A rough breakdown
Imotan: 55%
Christianity (all forms, mostly Catholicism): 30%
Islam (all forms, mostly Sunni): 10%
Judaism: 3%
Other: 2%

More than 90% of those who practice Imotan also practice some form of Buddhism.

Samurica
27-03-2008, 02:51
Samurica contains a state cult, Katíwiism. This cult is much less of a religion and much more of a civil obligation, like a national anthem or saluting a flag. At public gatherings a prayer is uttered honoring the goddess Katí and her blessings on Samurica; this prayer is often uttered with a lack of enthusiasm. At the coronation of new leaders, the archbishop of the Katíwian church grants the leader the right to rule and Katí's blessing. Katíwiism is rather vague in its lessons outside of a spiritual being ,Katí, allowing it to blend with most religions. The people at large know that this state cult is not a true religion but more of a federal trick to "unite" the people; however, a small group of radical fascists zealously follow the cult.

Beyond the state cult, larger portion (roughly over half) of Samurica's population is Protestant Christian, closely followed by Roman Catholicism, which is followed by about a fourth of the population. The remaining percent of the population contains a variety of other faiths. Atheism is growing in Samurica as a result of people doubting religion because of fascist Katíwian terrorists acting so strongly and violently in the known false religion.
