The end of nationstates

Has anyone else noticed how NS is fading rapidly? Nations are disappearing at the speed of light. Between the last two times I checked on Taijitu, for example, they had fallen to about half (lost about 500 nations).

With over 1.9 million states, there's bound to be some who leave the game every second. I wouldn't be worried.

That nations created since November 2002, champ. =P Not nations that are active. We have maybe..8,000 active nations at any given time, and that's being generous.

I wouldn't call a game that still has 71,965 active nations anywhere near its death. Call me back when it's under a thousand players.

Thread quality is another matter, and probably related to the fact that many people are at school or work atm, and thus don't have time to post (and in many cases even check their nations, some of which will undoubtedly return in the summer).

Just means there are less AMF type nations that can fart on a 1 billion person nation and blow it back into the stone age.

Actually I think things are looking up. NS was at 69K after New Years. Now its almost 72K.

... and then there's also the possibility that half of all nations in Taijitu were owned by one player just to make that region look really big so more players would join.

Don't base a general conclusion on a measurement with N=1.

There is also a difference between nations and active nations. I bet most of the dead nations weren't really active in the first place.

AS a long time players of the game I can say that people join the game and its not what they expected and they leave, others join the game as a pass time then forget it exists, some join for a friend then stop playing becasue they dont like it, some people play then lose internet and stop playing, and a select few make nations to test out issues and use them for Region Griefing.

The ways nation are born and fall is numerous and infinate and really cant be used to determine N.S.'s lifespan.

The number of nations has declined dramatically in the past two years...as can be illustrated with the population of TSP. Since that is a feeder, the population is somewhat less dependent on game politics...

Which really sucks since that's what made NationStates interesting in the first place. I'd at one time played NationStates but was a little too creeped out to even lurk through the forums until I recently made a new NationState which WILL be active for at least a year.

And since I've been gone for at most 2 years and it still seems to be active daily... I don't think it's going away for a LONG time ;)

Wouldn't a more reliable method would be the amount of UN Delegates? Since one person=one UN Nation, the less UN Nations, the less activity NS has (there are exceptions, such as people who hate the NSUN and won't join it for any reason, but overall, I think it's reliable enough, in that I care about UN more than other people).

Yeah, NS is dying. So what? All MMORPGs has to die. People get bored, you know. And NS isn't exactly a complicated game, that will take years to master.

Well I like this game, but I will say this, for the past 3 years playing this game, I am bored of it, the issues are the same, and Everything is the same, theres a April Fools joke every year.. Same things over and over again Gunman Kills 3... So on. We got to spice this game up a little bit.

Even this is not a good way to judge it. I cant join the U.N. becasue of a bad mistake in my early days with my first nation back in 03. So I cant join with my main anymore.

The game is old yes, but I dont think its dying. It takes time to find new things to put in the game that wont bog it down like the other nation sims... ie- Cybernations.

I know this game has been pretty steady, but you're right, everything is the same. I had a couple of nations back in 2005 that I just dropped after a while because of the recycling issues problem. Somewhere around ther 200 million mark I started stteng the same things over and over again. NOw its abck with this one b/c I am keeping up with an IRL friend MAybe if we had more input from our game creators.? I notice the last ime he said anything much was almost a year ago. Heck, I think look at the issues out there and come up with some new ones, maybe. :headbang:

When I look at the number of nations in existence on any given day, and the number of nations ranked by the UN for whatever trait the're looking at on that same day, there's often a gap of 2'000-2'500 between those two numbers.
That difference is presumably the number of nations that have been created since the update when the ranking was carried out.
Multiplying that value by 28, for the minimum number of days that a nation will (unless its owner seriously breaks the rules) exist, it would seem that there are about 56'000-70'000 nations at any time that are still in their very first month of existence... which means that a considerable proportion of the nations in existence are apparently being created and then just left to die, and that there could only be a few thousand longer-lasting ones... :(

Hi there

This seemed like a nice forum with some nice people talking in it so i thought i'd say hi

i'm new here so i really have no idea what i'm doing besides making decisions on my legislation (??)

I think it'd be cool to make some new friends or at least some new friend nations so that coming on is more fun than just ignorantly deciding the fate of my very small population :)

so, anyone who gets on have anything to talk about? or discuss?

You know... players can submit ideas for issues....

Just thought I'd throw that out there.
