I've recently started the game and I have enjoyed answering the issues. However, I have been wondering what else there is to do in the mean time instead of sitting around waiting for issues to arise. If you have any comments or ideas please let me know. I apologize if this is not the right place for this post, but I just figured that gameplay would be a good place for it.

I'm having the same issue.

I think it's mostly about role playing in threads, though there seems to be something to regional UN politics... My region's just been inactive for the last couple days...

There are a lot of regions dedicated to role-playing. If you're looking for a more active role in NS, you can move to one of these regions or join the UN. (Be advised that you may only have one nation in the UN at a time.)

Basically, a lot of people like to roleplay or make stories up about their nation and it's interaction with other people's nations. I started early in January (jan 2nd actually) and since have enjoyed myself very much.

First I created an introduction thread. This allows you to introduce your nation to the world and creates interest for others to RP with you. Mine was Shaping of a nation: The Kashkovian Saga (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=546851)

Next you could create an off-site webpage or on-site factbook about your nation so others have it's vital stats when they RP with you. Mine was offsite and looks like a Wiki-page (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547415)

I then would suggest a few threads that may generate interest for rp. If they don't bring anyone in, just turn them into your own story-telling threads. I had:
My leader denounce some internal politics (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547748)
My Country upset over a bad review in the International Geographic (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547461)
Then I had my country blow up a freighter filled with drugs...this one took off (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547720)

Then I set up a storefront where I could sell items others didn't have available to other players. I decided that other players have all kinds of stores to buy weapons from but nothing to use to help RP their diplomatic incidents. So...the Green Thumb was created (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=548348)

Basically what I am saying is if you enjoy telling stories and have an imagination, then this is definitely a good place to be.

Also there's a bit of region game play. My region has regional jobs (Defense Minister, Secretary of State, Justice Department, etc) and there's a regional forum as well.

Sadly I've noticed that a lot of regions are becoming inactive.

May I be one of the few older nations to welcome you all to NationStates. While yes, the actual game doesn't have much, here on the forums is where you can do so much more for the game. Rollplay your nation out in the International Incidents section of the forums. If you join the UN, you can rollplay as your nations deligate and discuss matters of international importance in the United Nations section of the forums.

There are also many different Character Rollplay's in both the International Incidents and the NationStates sections of the forums.

But also be warned. You MUST follow the rules of the game if you wish to not only play the game on the NationStates web site, but also participate on the forums here. I have included several links below that would be of some use to you all. Read them thoroughly for they will help you from stepping across that invisable line as to what is acceptable here on NationStates, and what is not.

Rules for UN Proposals [Now Binding] (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=420465)

Thats about all of the ones I can think of right now. Although I do suggest that you read the following thread. It suggests that you don't enter nation passwords into any off-site web site.

Your nation, your password: DO NOT ENTER THEM INTO ANY OFFSITE WEB PAGE! (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=546008)

How does one create an on-site Factbook for a nation?
Also I came across some link about "storefronts" at some point (couldn't find it now to save my life). Is that just a type of thread in one of the forums or what?

From what I understand (I'm a Generalite and don't RP much), that's a type of thread in International Incidents.

A "storefront" thread is indeed in International Incidents. it is where people can buy weapons, vehicles, and pritty much anything else someone can think of. There was a thread with a list of storefronts at one point in time, but i'm not sure what happened with that. If I find it later, i'll post it.

Most National Factbooks cannot be made on the NationStates web site itself, although people to use the forums to create one. And there was one web site created by Goobergunchia, although he is in the process of changing web hosts for his site. You can stay up to date with everything that is going on with NSWiki's move At the link below.

You could also do some internal rps, such as a coup or coup attempt, civil war, riots, election.

One thing I do recommend is an embassy exchange thread, to set up diplomatic relations with the rest of the world.

If you're really adventurous, you can participate in region invading and espionage, which really appeals to the adventurous type. But be careful: if you acquire a bad reputation while participating in raiding regions, you may find it hard to be forgiven and trusted later.

Hmmm... Maybe some simplicity and clarity... (Maybe)

There're many games going on within the game.

1) Roleplaying: You can roleplay your nation in many ways. There are wars, sporting events, diplomatic functions, and other events that you can "pretend" to take part in. These happen in the two forums NationStates (NS) and International Incidents (II), as well as on other forums.

2) Invading/regional "politics": This is one aspect I never really understood to well, so someone else might explain this more simply. Basically it's like king of the hill within and between regions. This usually isn't roleplayed so much.

3) UN activities: You can have one nation in the UN. Basically this is like answering issues, except it's democracy. UN issues come up for a vote and all UN members are affected.

4) Con-Nationing: Creating an imaginary place. You can basically flesh out your nation's culrure, language, history, etc. This usually goes hand in hand with roleplaying.

5) NationStatesGeneral (NSG): This is the least closely related to the the actual game, but many people find it the most fun. (Others hate it.) Over in NSG we like to talk about all sorts of stuff, but most especially politics. :)
