we keep the solsitces and equanoxes. the're natural times of year and nobody has to have gotten shot or made a big speach on them.

we do plan things to begin on them when we can though.
our constitution went into effect on the vernal equanox,
which is also our new years.

all four tend to be celibrated with feasting, potlatching and live music.

as for political parties, we use plurality voting instead, as well as everyone gets to vote directly on whatever sorts of issues interest them.

frequent periodic public meetings set the agendas for elected councils who then deliberate until unanimity, near unanimity, or they get tired of it and call for a vote. these councils always consist of an odd number between five and eleven.

who in turn elect each successive level in the same way. each level electing the next by plurality.

At Kilobugya we have:

- the solstices and equinoxes, to remind us that we are linked with nature and should preserve it ;

- New Year, on January 1st ;

- the Freedom Day, on February 4th, to celebrate the abolition of slavery ;

- the Revolution Day, on March 26th, to celebrate Paris' Commune, the ideological root of Kilobugya's democratic socialism ;

- the Workers' Day, on May 1th, of course ;

- the Children Day, on May 19th, to celebrate the prohibition of child labor (it's on this day that Kilobugya's children receive presents, as they do on Christmas in many other countries) ;

- the Republic Day, on September 21th (too bad, it's often the same day than fall equinox), to celebrate the abolition of monarchy ;

- the Helathcare Day, on October 4th, to celebrate the creation of the Social Security system, with comprehensive public healthcare.

New Year's Day (1st April), Independence Day (2nd April), the main Christian holidays (although the Godwinnian Catholic Church, which is one of the most important sects, has a forumla of its own for calculating the date of Easter...), New Year's Eve (31st March), & probably some others that I can't remember offhand...
