Welcome to the game! Well first off it does you good to read the stickies posted at the top of the forums. They tell you some of the lingo and other things that have to go with the game.

If you want to dive right in, you can to to International Incidents and set up a diplomacy thread. Many nations like to start off by asking for embassy exchanges, but if you want to go more formal and get RPing have your leader throw a party have a ball, or have a dinner.

Get your posting quota up: Jolt (the host forum) does Moderator Review and depending on the length of your posts some may go up for review instead of being posted right away. After 10 posts the review ends. Some good ways is to do things like GOVERNMENT responses, throw your opinion in the General Forum, or go to the Jolt Spam Forum and spam the place till the cows come home.

AVOID SMILIES in In Character posts. I don't really know why but I know that is how it is.

Before you declare war: It helps to know your nations stats: http://nsdossier.texasregion.net/ Keep your military hardware in check before.

Put up a Factbook: It helps for others to know about your country. Tell about your Government, national statistics, like major religions, and so on.

And yet another newbie comes for help! I see this information was quite informative and I thank you for it. But I have just a few more questions, if you don't mind the obligation of answering them.

First off, I know NationStates once was not that big on war and military. Well I am. And I was wondering where could I go to share my military information, such as how many troops or ships I have. I saw the one thread about the naval vessels, however. Also, the money shown in our Dossier, does that determine how much we can buy military wise, or as long as we keep it realistic there's no set price?

Secondly, what would I include in a diplomacy thread? Military stats? Economy? Allies and enemies? General information on my country and update it?

Lastly, I see you mention a "FactBook" how do I put one up?

Thanks for any information you could provide.

I know how much of a bother new people can be for those who are familiar with the basics.

Yeah what they said, also, how can a nation expand their influence without opening themselves up to being forced to submit to the laws and standards of other nations and the UN?

I'm more than happy to answer:

There's a few places, first the best place is International Incidents. Many will give you feedback and constructive criticisms. Post your stats up there. There is a place called The NationStates Draftroom, but you may need more info on that from veteran members. There is also NSWiki but at the present time it's still in a Read-Only state while the database expands. To keep it realisitc check your stats at NSdossier (The link I posted above) and look at your overall economy and military spending. Base your stats off your economics. Don't bankrupt your economy by overspending on military. Wait a while to continue to develop your economy. It also helps to look for various store fronts. Another good idea is to look at Real Life Nations and their military budgets to base off your own.

You can do all that and more, it's perfectly up to you. You can also put that into factbooks. There are embassy pages will mark their allies with color text or bold face, what ever you want. Or you can just break the ice with fellow leaders by hosting a party. These are very advantageous because you lean how other nations tick and you can get an idea how to further develop your own.

You can post a factbook in International Incidents, or Nationstates. And when NSWiki is running again you can start a Wiki page for your self.

Here is my own Wiki Page: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/kanami.html

Hope this helps, if you have more questions you can Telegram me

If you don't desire to join the UN or the will of other nations, it's best to avoid any alliances for right now. Personal Allies might be the best for you. Seek nations that respect sovereignty. Again diplomacy threads are the best way to find this out.

I have had an account for a while (not as long as some i realize) but i strongly recomend the following thread

NationStates Trainers - An OOC Organization

this thread is a program designed to gather veteran RPers who volunteer and help new people learn all of the basics

(P.S. it is not only for newbs veterans may also ask for help there to)

This (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=543994) is the latest sticky on International Incidents, and has links to most of the things you've asked, including a good template for a Factbook.

This (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=297064) is an older one, but still useful.

Here's (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=545309&highlight=Trainers) the link to the Trainers thread that Miamoria mentioned.

EDIT: Very new newcomers might appreciate this (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/misc.php?do=bbcode) thread that shows how to do links and so on.
