Profile contradicts itself

I'm not sure where this should go but my nation's profile is currently saying that it both has prisons and doesn't:"notable for its complete lack of prisons", "and the new prison system is crowding up at an alarming rate", "probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons"

The sentence "Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons" came about because of decisions you made while setting up your nation.

The line "the new prison system is crowding up at an alarming rate" came about because of a more recent decision you made on an issue.

As you decide more issues, the old ones will be crowded out and "the new prison system is crowding up at an alarming rate" will disappear.

It's just the way the system works -- "Use issue-decision phrase unit HERE. Use setup-related phrase unit HERE." As far as the system is concerned, it doesn't have to make sense, it just has to have the right units in the right places.

A happy side-effect is that the madder combinations that appear can be used as RP plots.

O. I was sure the first and last statements were due to issues too. What does "RP plots" mean? So how can I get rid of my high crime rate then? It was totally unknown before.

Ironically, no matter what attempts I made at rehabilitation, it wasn't until I started shooting people in the streets without trial that my crime rate dropped "due to progressive social policies". Go fig.

RP stands for roleplay -- telling stories. So an RP plot is an idea for a story. You can get ideas for roleplays by basing them on issues. (Like the one where Max Barry wins your national beauty contest.)

The things that are there because of the way you set up your nation don't go away. You can try making decisions that you think would reduce crime. But decisions have unexpected side effects. Read some of the threads in the Got Issues? forum for people's ideas on what effects issues have.

O. I was sure the first and last statements were due to issues too.Sort of.

"Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons" is a result of issues, but only because that line is determined by a handful of hidden stats that are adjusted by your issue choices.

"the new prison system is crowding up at an alarming rate" is a direct result of an issue choice. Every time you answer that line's issue the way you did, you'll get that result.

Private enterprise is illegal

Pepsi-Co's airwaves are dominated by corporate-backed commercial radio

The "Private enterprize is illegal" part somehow got on there a while back when I missed a caveat of some random legislation I adopted. Now it won't go away, despite any other efforts I've made. I've privatised many industries since then (our Pepsi-Co Mail competes with private mail delivery companies, our national space program is based on private investments, and our radio is corporate-backed), yet somehow private enterprise remains illegal.

You obviously can get low crime without doing that though because that was the way I had it before and I would like it to be so again but I don't know what went wrong that it's high now.
